Princess Eugenie of York and Jack Brooksbank Are Engaged

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry aren’t the only royals tying the knot this year: Buckingham Palace announced this morning that Princess Eugenie of York and Jack Brooksbank are also engaged.

“The Duke and Duchess of York are delighted to announce the engagement of Princess Eugenie and Mr. Jack Brooksbank,” the official statement reads. “Her Royal Highness and Mr. Brooksbank became engaged in Nicaragua earlier this month. The wedding will take place in the Autumn of 2018 at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor, with further details to be announced in due course.”

The location of their wedding, St. George’s Chapel, should sound familiar to you: It’s where Markle and Prince Harry are exchanging their vows on May 19, 2018.

According to The Sun, Brooksbank and Princess Eugenie started dating six years ago after they met at a ski resort in Switzerland. He’s the manager of a trendy nightclub in Mayfair called Mahiki. He reportedly received the Queen’s blessing to marry Princess Eugenie in September 2016 in Balmoral Castle while visiting for Prince Harry’s 32nd birthday.

Peep the tweets officially announcing their engagement, below:

Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, tweeted several sweet messages to the newly-engaged couple. “A total embrace of goodness and joy. We love Jack, and I am so excited to have a son, a brother, and a best friend. Eugenie is one of the finest people I know, and so together it will be pure harmony.”

She later added, “They float with laughter and love…I always say that the river flows well to it’s destiny because of the guidance of a solid rock.”

Congratulations to the couple. This means there will be two royal weddings in one year! Is the Internet ready?

This Is the Real Story Behind Princess Diana's Iconic Haircut

When Kate Middleton changes her hair, it’s like the earth shakes. News travels fast, so with the royal family’s look under constant supervision, the family lives by a few key rules. Some, like the Queen’s guidelines about nude nail colors, are known, while others are more unspoken (for example: keep your hairstylist close). Given that scrutiny, there’s no telling how insane the thought process must be when anyone wants to seriously change up their look—or the pressure they must face to keep it crowd-pleasing. Which makes it all the more surprising that the real story behind Princess Diana’s iconic haircut went down in just a few hours.

As Princess Diana’s former hairstylist, Sam McKnight, explains in his new book, the decision was entirely spur of the moment. Yep: If things had gone differently, the look that defined a generation wouldn’t have existed. According to US Weekly, McKnight writes in Hair by Sam McKnight that the look was born from a single Vogue cover shoot in 1990. After McKnight tucked Diana’s hair into a faux crop to work around her tiara, Diana, apparently, was intrigued. “I made her hair look short in the tiara for the shoot and she decided she liked it,” McKnight writes. “As she was leaving, Diana asked what would I do to her hair if I had free reign…I suggested cutting it short and she, to my surprise, agreed, and we did it there and then.”

If the thought of changing your whole look just like that sends shivers down your spine, it’s not that outlandish given Diana’s beauty approach. Her former makeup artist, Mary Greenwell, revealed that the princess was fearless about trying new things. “She loved makeup and loved experimenting. It was just much more about really getting her to look absolutely beautiful all the time,” said Greenwell.

Nevertheless, Diana knew when to keep it slow. “She was someone who was in the public eye presenting herself all the time to the public,” Greenwell said. “It isn’t particularly appropriate to go on changing your look every five seconds. She did change her makeup a bit. It’s just that it wasn’t changed dramatically.” Except for her hair that once, apparently—and what a time to make it count.

Kate Middleton Wears Princess Diana's Favorite Tiara to Party at Buckingham Palace

UPDATE: Kate Middleton has been spotted wearing a remarkable piece of jewelry—Princess Diana’s favorite tiara—for the second time this year. On December 5 the Duchess of Cambridge wore the Lover’s Knot crown to the annual winter party at Buckingham Palace. There the royals hosted diplomats from more than 170 missions across the United Kingdom, People reported. Middleton paired the famous tiara with matching diamond and pearl drop earrings and an equally dazzling diamond necklace.

JULY 2017: Every princess needs the perfect tiara. And for Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton hers comes borrowed from Princess Diana—because when you’re part of the royal family, you get your pick of the best jewels. At a recent state banquet for visiting royalty King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain, Middleton wore a stunning pink lace Marchesa dress, a statement necklace borrowed for the night from the Queen, and a very special tiara. The diamond and pearl Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara, as Vanity Fair notes, was a wedding gift to Princess Diana and known to be one of Diana’s favorite pieces.

The tiara is a historical treasure and is a little more than a century old, according to People—it was commissioned by Queen Mary sometime in 1913 or 1914. It has 19 arches and a total of 38 drop-shaped pearls.

The first time the Duchess of Cambridge wore the special tiara (is it now acceptable to name all of our jewelry, too?) was at a state banquet in 2015, according to People, and this year’s celebration is the second time she’s worn it since, so it seems like it has quickly become one of her favorites as well. Custom dictates that only certain occasions allow for a tiara, and as the largest event Buckingham Palace throws each year—this year, with more than one thousand people from 130 different countries, Vanity Fair reports—a state banquet definitely qualifies.

Following the Duchess’s wardrobe choices is a favorite pastime, especially because of her affinity for mixing it up from custom designer clothes to J.Crew; Middleton even wore a $51 Zara dress on the way to the wedding of her sister, Pippa. And clearly Kate is not afraid to re-wear her faves, which luckily means her mother-in-law’s prized possession can live on.

Prince Harry Reveals What Princess Diana Would've Thought of Meghan Markle

It’s long been rumored Prince Harry’s engagement ring for Meghan Markle would include diamonds that once belonged to his late mother, Princess Diana. After all, Kate Middleton’s ring was quite literally Princess Diana’s at one point, so it’s only fitting Markle’s would tribute her in some capacity, too.

And it does—several times over. In their first sit-down interview as an engaged couple, Prince Harry revealed Markle’s engagement ring includes “little diamonds on the side” that are actually from Princess Diana’s jewelry collection. That’s sentimental enough, but are you ready for this? Prince Harry designed the ring himself.

“Everything about Harry’s thoughtfulness and the inclusion of [the diamonds] and not being able to meet his mom…it’s important for me to know she’s a part of this with us,” Markle said in the interview. “I’m able to somehow know her through him…To be able to have this [ring]—which links where[he] comes from—it’s perfect.”

Unfortunately, Markle is right: She and Princess Diana will never get to meet in real life. However, Prince Harry contends his mother would’ve loved her. “They’d be thick as thieves without question,” Prince Harry said. “She’d be over the moon [about our engagement], jumping up and down. So excited for me. She would’ve been best friends with Meghan. It’s days like this where I miss having her around. I’m sure she’s with us.”

Markle has met several key members of Prince Harry’s family, though, including his grandmother, the Queen. “[Meeting her was] incredible,” Markle also said in the interview. “To be able to meet her through his lens—with the love he has for her as his grandmother—all of those layers have been so important to me.” Apparently, the Queen’s corgis took to Markle instantly, which is so adorable that I can’t breathe.

Ava Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon's Daughter, Made Her Debut in Paris Looking Like a Real-Life Princess

Reese Witherspoon’s look-alike daughter Ava Phillippe made her official society debut in Paris on Saturday night. And not only did she look like a real-life princess in her shimmering gold tea-length gown, she waltzed like one, too. (Hey, she might not be royalty-royalty, but she’s definitely Hollywood royalty.)

With her famous mom escorting her, the 18-year-old attended the Bal des Debutantes at the Peninsula Paris hotel. The event, which is in its 25th year, brings together around 20 young girls from around the world to celebrate their entry into society.

Phillippe looked incredible in a gold, long-sleeved Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown that was basically made for the Kira Kira app (so shimmery). Before the event, she posed on the red carpet with Witherspoon, who looked beyond proud and wore a black floral embellished gown and black fur coat.

The debutante entered the ballroom with her dapper escort for the night, Maharaja Padmanabh Singh of Jaipur, who was dressed to the nines in a formal tuxedo. According to People, he’s known in Parisian circles as “Pacho,” has been known to polo with royalty—in particular, future heir to the British throne Prince William—and is a member of India’s national team for the sport.

The duo took to the dance floor for a waltz to a song from La La Land—and the pair practically looked like professionals as they twirled around the room. People reported that Singh told journalists he only learned the waltz steps only a few weeks before, so sign this duo up for Dancing With the Stars. They were that good.

Steve Harvey’s daughter, Lori, was among the other debutantes there. The two American women join the ranks of other celebrity debs including Demi Moore and Bruce Willis’ children, Scout and Tallulah Willis, as well as Sylvester Stallone’s daughter, Sophia Rose Stallone, who have also attended the spectacular Parisian event.

Viola Davis Won't Let Her Daughter Dress Like a Princess Unless She Has Natural Hair

In between being nominated for all the acting awards and being a damn inspiration, Viola Davis spends a fair amount of time going to bat for women of color. She did at last year’s Oscars, at the 2015 Emmys, and she did it again this afternoon by sharing a very important rule she has for her daughter.

We all know that women of color face discrimination everyday—from the workplace to the makeup counter—and Davis never allows a moment of personal achievement to pass without reminding the world of this imbalance. Still, at the same, she celebrates the power of black women (see the straight up transcendence of any one of her acceptance speeches). So it’s not surprising that she brings the same fire and fierce affection for blackness to raising her daughter. When it comes to playing dress up, Genesis, age 6, is given the full range of Disney princesses and superheroes to choose from, but Davis draws one line.

“I say, ‘You’ve gotta wear your hair exactly the way it is,” Davis told Yahoo Lifestyle. “You can be Wonder Woman, but you gotta be Wonder Woman with your hair. You can be Elsa, but you gotta be Elsa with your hair.’”

The news is run through with stories detailing the obstacles that women of color face simply for living life with natural hair and this uncomfortable truth makes Davis’s rule all the more meaningful. She goes on to explain that she tells her daughter she can be anyone she wants, “if you start with the palette of loving who you are.” Cue total and absolute sense of affirmation.

Judging by Davis’s throwback Instagram post below, this rule has been in place for some time.

And judging by this Instagram post, it’s giving Genesis a sense of self-worth that is truly exceptional:
