Reese Witherspoon's Draper James Is Giving Free Dresses to Teachers

It should be a surprise to absolutely no one that Reese Witherspoon has jumped into action to do what she can to help during the coronavirus pandemic. She doesn’t just play women who get things done, she is a woman who gets things done.

There are so many people going above and beyond in their communities right now, including health care workers and first responders. But our nation’s school teachers have also had their worlds upended, and they’re working hard to adjust their lesson plans and stay connected to their students who are now going to class from their homes. Witherspoon and her lifestyle brand Draper James are saying thank you with free dresses by way of their “Draper James ❤️ Teachers” initiative. Draper James will also offer teachers 25% off online orders for Teacher Appreciation Day on May 5.

“These past few weeks have shown me so much about humanity. I’m an eternal optimist, so I always look for the bright side of things. And I have been so encouraged by the ways people are really showing up for each other. Particularly the teachers,” Witherspoon said in a press release. “During quarantine, teachers are broadcasting lessons from their own homes and figuring out new remote-learning technology and platforms on the fly, all while continuing to educate and connect with our kids. Advocating for the children of the world is no easy task, so I wanted to show teachers a little extra love right now.”

The brand seconded its founder’s sentiment on Instagram: “Dear Teachers: We want to say thank you. During quarantine, we see you working harder than ever to educate our children. To show our gratitude, Draper James would like to give teachers a free dress.”

We love this idea so much and Draper James’ adorable day dresses are perfect for teachers to wear to work—whether they’re back in the classroom or holding class via Zoom.

Your First Look at Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon's The Morning Show Is Here

We finally have our first glimpse of Jennifer Aniston’s long-awaited return to television. The Friends’ alum stars alongside Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carrell in the Apple TV+ series, The Morning Show. Based on CNN’s Brian Stelter’s 2013 book, Top of The Morning, in which he chronicles the rivalry between Good Morning America and The Today Show, the series has been called by Apple a “high-stakes drama that pulls back the curtain on early morning TV.” And the freshly dropped trailer proves it’s just that—with an emphasis on the drama.

While we don’t actually see any of the actors (who all star as key players on the morning TV show) in this sneak peek, we hear them argue in voiceover as the camera takes us on a tour of the studio. “Don’t you ever question my integrity in my own house again,” Aniston warns her colleagues at one point. Later, she yells, “We are doing this my way!”

At an Apple Event this spring, Aniston revealed the show would be told “through the prism of those under-slept, over-adrenalized people in front of and behind the camera.” She added, “We take an honest look at the complex relationships between women and men in the workplace, and we engage in the conversation people are a little too afraid to have unless they’re behind closed doors.”

Witherspoon—who will be reuniting with Aniston for the first time since playing her younger sister Jill on Friends—also attended the same event, where she shared that “The Morning Show is seen through the eyes of two ambitious, aspirational female characters.”

“It’s a high-velocity thrill ride in which we pose questions without easy answers and shine a light on the fault lines in our society at this very complicated cultural moment,” Witherspoon added.

While the official premiere date for the show is unknown—it’s slated for fall 2019—Apple has already ordered a second, 10-episode season. And though little is revealed in this first trailer, it’s clear the show will be a ripped-from-the-headlines look at the dramatic, often heartbreaking news cycle Americans see every day.

Reese Witherspoon's Draper James Is Officially Expanding Into Plus Sizes

Last spring, Reese Witherspoon‘s lifestyle brand Draper James announced it would be collaborating with Eloquii. The multi-season partnership marked Draper James’ first foray into extended sizing, offering its signature cheery pieces in sizes 12 to 28. Almost a year later, Witherspoon is announcing that it’s making plus sizes a fixture of her brand.

Starting for Spring 2019, Draper James will be offering sizes 0 through 24. At first, it’ll only be a selection of pieces that’ll be available in the full range. (In the future, the brand hopes to offer its entire collection in all sizes, plus grow what sizes are on offer.) Everything will be merchandised together in stores, and the prices will be the same across the board, between $38 and $175.

Draper James’ collaboration with Eloquii laid the groundwork for this in-house expansion. “[Eloquii] spoke to the customer in a way that she felt really seen and heard about fit and about styles—what styles work for her body, what don’t, what makes her feel confident,” Witherspoon told Glamour. “We learned a lot from that collaboration, and it inspired us, too. … We got so [much] information about what sizes people wanted, what they like to have, different types of coverage… We definitely altered some of those things, like whether there were belts on things or extending the length of certain dresses. That really helped us to feel like we were really dialed in as far as fit.”

One big difference between these styles and the ones Draper James offered through Eloquii is the fabric. Kathryn Sukey, the brand’s head of design, explains that they’re using the same material across its sizing, something that they couldn’t offer through an outside partnership. “We really think of this line as one comprehensive line, so there isn’t any substitute fabric in our extended size assortment,” she says. “That’s something that we’re really proud of and that we feel like we’re thinking of differently and doing differently than other brands.”

The new, size-inclusive designs, Witherspoon says, will bring the same bright, happy, Sourthern-vibe that people have come to expect from Draper James and that was in its Eloquii capsule. “Women love print and color and optimism and happy clothes—what they would say to me [about the Eloquii collection] is like, There are so many brands that only make very dark clothes or things that are very neutral,” she says. “And you know, there are women out there that want to be more expressive in their style, and they really enjoyed having things that had floral patterns and that were a bit ladylike.”

As Draper James x Eloquii hit stores, Witherspoon embarked on a book tour promoting Whiskey in a Teacup. While traveling across the country, women would come up to her to tell her they loved that collection. “I would see hundreds and hundreds of women who were wearing the clothes and would see the styles that they enjoyed and started to make sense in my mind which ones were really very popular—and for good reason,” she says.

Social media has been key to getting real-time consumer feedback, too. “We definitely listen to customers when they comment on social media and we respond,” says Witherspoon. “The great thing about being a young brand is that we can really be very nimble with new decisions and lean in to different ideas.” She also loves to see people posting their outfits featuring Draper James and Draper James x Eloquii pieces: “That’s more interesting to me than some fancy, styled shoot. I really love to see it incorporated into people’s lives and making them feel joyful.”

Draper James’ first plus-sized pieces also got the support of some top names—Chrissy Metz, Aidy Bryant, and Hunter McGrady have all worn the collection. “I was so thrilled to see [them] wearing the clothes,” says Witherspoon. “It’s just a thrill, first of all—the support of one woman to another woman. It’s always just a thrill. Are you kidding me? I just love to see anyone wearing the clothes! Because I put the work in, you know? And I think being an entrepreneur is a risk. You put yourself out there. But to have support from women who have the ability to do that means the world to me.”

It’s underscores her larger mission in film and in media (her production company, Hello Sunshine, has multiple TV and movie projects in the works, all highlighting women’s stories and many optioned from books written by women). “A big part of what I’m trying to do with development and the media world is create an idea that women, we stand together and we’re better together,” Witherspoon says. “Supporting each other is an imperative in my life, and it’s important to me to put that messaging into the brand. We took on this idea of expanding sizing as a reflection of who I am and [wanting] all women to feel seen and heard. Because everybody matters and everybody needs to feel beautiful.”

For Some Reason Celebrities Can't Get Over Reese Witherspoon's Body Double

Yesterday, the eternal human sunshine commonly known as Reese Witherspoon delighted her legion of followers by introducing them to an incredible Reese Witherspoon doppelgänger: a woman named Marilee Lessley, who’s been serving as the actor’s body double for over a decade now. (For those unfamiliar, a body double stands in for an actor while a set is being prepared, often to make sure the lighting and whatnot is alright for the scene in question. Sometimes, they’ll also do light stunt work.)

Witherspoon gushed about her pal in an Instagram video, noting how she’s been her body double for an astounding five films as well as Big Little Lies. “Okay you guys, I want to introduce you to someone who’s been working with me for years. This is Marilee! And she’s my double! Don’t we look alike?!” Witherspoon asked her followers. “We do, we totally look alike,” Lessley responded. “We totally do.” In an additional Instagram Story, Witherspoon said the two crossed paths on the set of Legally Blonde 2, and their resemblance was so uncanny that they started their working relationship shortly thereafter with Just Like Heaven.

As pointed out by BuzzFeed, many well-known actresses have responded to Witherspoon’s Instagram post with an equal sense of envy and amusement. “Wow!” Julianne Moore wrote. “Twins,” Elizabeth Banks opined. “CraZy,” Katie Couric wrote with unusual capitalization and a few emojis. As for Rita Wilson: “That is crazy!” Zoe Saldana also got in on the fun, writing, “So beautiful!”

Interestingly, as People reports, Witherspoon and Lessley’s friendship goes outside the boundaries of work — when Lessley fell on hard financial times after a divorce in 2016, Witherspoon was there to support her friend to ensure she was able to get the help she needed. “Reese came to me on this shoot as she learned about all the tragedies and trials that had unfolded in my life that month and she asked how she could help,” Lessley wrote on Instagram at the time. “Even told me I could go home paid.”

If that’s not blond sisterhood, we don’t know what is.

Ava Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon's Daughter, Made Her Debut in Paris Looking Like a Real-Life Princess

Reese Witherspoon’s look-alike daughter Ava Phillippe made her official society debut in Paris on Saturday night. And not only did she look like a real-life princess in her shimmering gold tea-length gown, she waltzed like one, too. (Hey, she might not be royalty-royalty, but she’s definitely Hollywood royalty.)

With her famous mom escorting her, the 18-year-old attended the Bal des Debutantes at the Peninsula Paris hotel. The event, which is in its 25th year, brings together around 20 young girls from around the world to celebrate their entry into society.

Phillippe looked incredible in a gold, long-sleeved Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown that was basically made for the Kira Kira app (so shimmery). Before the event, she posed on the red carpet with Witherspoon, who looked beyond proud and wore a black floral embellished gown and black fur coat.

The debutante entered the ballroom with her dapper escort for the night, Maharaja Padmanabh Singh of Jaipur, who was dressed to the nines in a formal tuxedo. According to People, he’s known in Parisian circles as “Pacho,” has been known to polo with royalty—in particular, future heir to the British throne Prince William—and is a member of India’s national team for the sport.

The duo took to the dance floor for a waltz to a song from La La Land—and the pair practically looked like professionals as they twirled around the room. People reported that Singh told journalists he only learned the waltz steps only a few weeks before, so sign this duo up for Dancing With the Stars. They were that good.

Steve Harvey’s daughter, Lori, was among the other debutantes there. The two American women join the ranks of other celebrity debs including Demi Moore and Bruce Willis’ children, Scout and Tallulah Willis, as well as Sylvester Stallone’s daughter, Sophia Rose Stallone, who have also attended the spectacular Parisian event.
