Anne Hathaway Made the Best Princess Diaries Joke While Doing the Pillow Challenge


One of the brighter sides of the situation we’re currently in is how people and celebrities alike are leaning into being goofy on social media. Now, Anne Hathaway is getting in on the fun, specifically with the viral the pillow challenge. But she found a way to give it her own special spin.

In case you missed it (and seriously, how could you?), the pillow challenge is quite simple: You take a pillow and belt it around yourself while not wearing any other items of clothing. That’s it. That’s the trend. It’s fashion!

It’s been happening online for a while now, but Hathaway just got in on the action and picked a perfect quote from The Princess Diaries to excuse her slightly delayed timing. “A Queen is never late; everyone else is simply early.” ? #pillowchallenge,” she wrote in the caption of her photo on Instagram. She’s wearing multiple pillows, black combat boots, headphones, and an inexplicable (but welcome) pair of butterfly wings. Simply put, we love it see it.

The responses in the comments section were equally joyful. “With leadership like this- I’M MOVING TO GENOVIA,” actor Ana Villafañe wrote. Jessica Chastain said, “Hahaha I LOVE YOU! ❤️” And we love this fan who brought in another Anne Hathaway classic, The Devil Wears Prada: “Pillow challenge in quarantine during spring? GROUNDBREAKING!”

Anne Hathaway isn’t the only star to take part in the pillow challenge. Tracee Ellis Ross also wondered about being tardy to the party writing, “Am I too late?”

Meanwhile, Halle Berry went full-on glam for her take on the trend in all black everything. “You already KNOW you couldn’t keep me from the #PillowChallenge ?,” she wrote.

Princess Sofia of Sweden Is Fighting COVID-19 as a Medical Assistant


Princess Sofia of Sweden is temporarily trading in her tiara for scrubs amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Swedish royal (who married Prince Carl Philip in 2015) announced on Instagram on Thursday, April 16, that she’d gone through training and started working as a medical assistant at Sophiahemmet hospital in Stockholm to help in the fight against COVID-19. As you can see below, her ID card simply reads “Sofia.” The princess is also the honorary chairperson of the hospital.

“I am now placed in one of the hospital’s care departments, where together with other newly trained colleagues, I support and relieve the health care staff with different tasks,” Princess Sofia wrote on Instagram, explaining that her tasks will include cleaning and caring for patients.

“To have the opportunity to help in this difficult time is extremely rewarding,” she concluded. “Thanks!”

So how did she get this job? Well, an emergency program allows 80 people a week to take a three-day course at Sophiahemmet University College to learn how to support medical staff. According to a hospital spokesperson, the volunteers “can disinfect equipment, do shifts in the kitchen, and clean.”

Although the Sophiahemmet hospital has no confirmed coronavirus cases, it’s reportedly overwhelmed due to COVID-19. In a statement on Wednesday, April 15, the royal court said, “In the crisis we find ourselves in, the Princess wants to get involved and make a contribution as a voluntary worker to relieve the large workload of health care professionals.”

Earlier this month, Miss England 2019, Bhasha Mukherjee, returned to work as a junior doctor at the Pilgrim Hospital in Boston, England. “When you are doing all this humanitarian work abroad, you’re still expected to put the crown on, get ready…look pretty,” she told CNN at the time. “I wanted to come back home. I wanted to come and go straight to work.”

This Photo of Princess Charlotte Has a Special Meaning for Kate Middleton


Kate Middleton just gave her first-ever podcast interview this week and gave the world insight into her life as a mom to Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

The duchess sate down to chat with Giovanna Fletcher on Happy Mum, Happy Baby as part of her ongoing work to foster discussions around parenting in the early years of childhood development. She talked about her own “happy childhood” and how she tries to bring the lessons she learned growing up to her own family with Prince William.

“I think the things that really resonate with me most are the simple things and actually I see that now with my own children. Life now is so busy, so distracting and actually sometimes the simple things like watching a fire on a really rainy day provides such enjoyment,” she said. “I remember that from my childhood—doing the simple things, going for a walk together, and that’s really what I try and do with my children as well because it totally strips away all the complications, all the pressures.”

There’s one photo of Princess Charlotte, in particular, that she feels captures those simple, special times. “I’ve got this one photo of Charlotte smelling a bluebell, and really for me it’s moments like that that mean so much to me as a parent, and I try every day to put moments like that in, even if they’re small or even if I don’t have time… but that in an ideal world is what I would like to do,” Middleton said.

Kensington Palace then shared the sweet image taken by Middleton on Instagram. Charlotte appears to be wearing one of the same outfits from the photos the Cambridges released for her fourth birthday in May, so perhaps it’s from the same shoot.

What Selena Gomez Just Said About Princess Diana Will Warm Your Heart


Selena Gomez revealed many tidbits about her music and life in her new interview with Dazed (see the stunning cover, below). But one of the most interesting soundbites the singer-actor gave is that she’s a massive Princess Diana fan.

Dazed had several influential people send Gomez questions for the interview—including photographer Brianna Capozzi, who asked, “Who would you like to be stuck in a lift with?” The Rare singer said Princess Diana, and her reasoning was poignant and sweet.

“Princess Diana. She was such a warrior,” Gomez said. “I love everything she did. There’s this interview I will never forget where she is like, ‘I just want to be the queen of people’s hearts.’ You know, she didn’t necessarily care for all of the rules that [were imposed on her].”

Writer Emily Segal chimed in after Gomez’s response, saying she loves all the stories about how Princess Diana reportedly used to go to gay clubs in drag with her friends. To that, Gomez said, “Yeah, like, come on! She is so…. Ugh! I can’t believe it. I just wish she was here.”

Selena Gomez can no doubt relate, on some level, to the media scrutiny Princess Diana endured when she was alive. Selena says her music has been instrumental in helping her get through the harder stages of her life.

“I was dealing with fame and with being run-down, dealing with depression, anxiety and other mental health issues that I had,” she told Dazed. “It was all a bit confusing. When [my 2019 song] ‘Lose You to Love Me’ came out, I stood back and had this moment, like, ‘Oh…this is a huge reason why I’ve pushed myself through this. This is why.’ I was able to release a song that hopefully helps to heal some people, or just lets them know they are not alone. I was actually letting it go personally and when that happened, something inside of me just left. And that’s why I am grateful for the chapters of my life. I’m not saying that it’s gonna be easy from now on, but I have a lot more strength and a lot more courage and a bigger voice to stand up for what I deserve.”

Princess Beatrice's Royal Wedding: Everything We Know So Far


The date. When the engagement was announced, the palace simply said the wedding would take place in 2020. But People is now reporting it will take place on May 29.

The location. The couple has not announced where the ceremony will be held, but some have suggested the Royal Military Chapel in London, which is near Buckingham Palace. Eugenie famously got married in Windsor, in the same church as Markle and Harry.

The reception. While the royals have not made an official announcement, it’s been reported that the queen has offered to let Princess Beatrice have her post-wedding festivities at Buckingham Palace. This would be the first wedding reception held there since Prince William and Kate Middleton’s nuptials in 2011. “Bea was delighted and very grateful to accept. It was a really special gesture as it will be the first wedding celebration at Buckingham Palace since William and Catherine’s in 2011,” a source told The Daily Mail.

Prince Andrew’s role. This is where things could get complicated. Andrew was forced to step back from his role in the royal family after a disastrous interview he gave about his friendship with Epstein. He did not attend his daughter’s engagement party in December, according to People. But the magazine reports he will still likely play a major role in Beatrice’s big day. “I definitely think he will walk her down the aisle,” their source said. “He plays a very traditional role in her life. She’s his greatest supporter.”

“This is obviously very hard times,” the source continued. “Beatrice would never do anything to be hurtful to her father. He’s going to be by her side, and she’s going to be by his.”

Princess Beatrice Will Reportedly Have Her Wedding Reception at Buckingham Palace


The royal family has had a lot going on lately: In addition to all of the drama with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepping down as senior royals, there’s also a big wedding in the works.

Princess Beatrice and her fiancé Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are scheduled to wed later this year. And now, according to royal sources, Queen Elizabeth has decided to let Princess Beatrice have her reception at Buckingham Palace—something that hasn’t happened since Prince William and Kate Middleton got married there in 2011. (Royal fans will remember that Harry and Meghan wed at Windsor Castle and had a reception at Frogmore House. And Princess Beatrice’s sister, Princess Eugenie, also wed at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in 2018.)

The news comes as Princess Beatrice’s father, Prince Andrew, was suspended from his royal duties because of his connections to Jeffrey Epstein, the financier and convicted sex felon who died in 2019. According to the Daily Mail, Prince Andrew opted not to go to his daughter’s engagement party at the London restaurant Chiltern Firehouse because of the scandal. It’s unclear if Queen Elizabeth offered Buckingham Palace as a reception venue to Princess Beatrice before or after the engagement party, but her friends say she’s excited.

There aren’t many other details about what else is in store for Princess Beatrice’s wedding, but with a venue like Buckingham Palace it’s bound to be gorgeous. It will likely also be full of personal touches, which Princess Beatrice has already embraced; Just after she got engaged, she responded to everyone who sent her congratulatory messages with sweet, handwritten cards. They read, “Thank you so much for thinking of us after the engagement.” We’ll have to see what other details she’s planned when she ties the knot later this year.
