Camila Cabello Filmed Her Mom Cutting Her Hair

We’re at that point in self isolation where people are starting to make hasty decisions about their hair. In the case of Camila Cabello, that means asking your mom to cut your overgrown bangs.

When you’re a famous pop star, you then document the entire process for all of your fans, of course—which is exactly what Cabello did on her Instagram Stories. We appreciate that she acknowledged attempting to do this herself would be a very bad idea. “This is what it’s come to. The bangs are too long…can’t go outside,” she said in the video. “I’m going to have to trust this woman with my bangs because I can’t trust myself.” She says she chose poorly in middle school to terrible results: “In seventh grade, I used to cut my own bangs, and they looked like mountains.

“I’ve been seeing a lot of posts warning people not to do this, let’s see how it turns out. Right now, I look like Snape [from Harry Potter],” she said.

Enter her mom, Sinuhe Estrabao, to save the day. Cabello gave hilarious commentary throughout the process as her mom trimmed her wet hair. The initial results were “not great” according to the singer, since her mom didn’t follow her directions to angle her bangs to blend the longer ends with the rest of her hair near her temples. Instead, Cabello said, she just cut straight across her forehead. “She just horizontal-lined that shit,” she said, teasing her mom. “So, we’ll see how I look.”

Also, their lighthearted bickering will likely remind you of many a conversation with your own mom. And the final result? “It actually ended up looking not that bad,” Cabello said.

9 Ways to Use Coconut Oil for Hair Health

Take a peek inside your kitchen cabinets, and we bet you have a jar of coconut oil hiding out in there. While it’s an excellent baking ingredient, have you considered using coconut oil for your hair? DIY beauty fans swear by its multitude of benefits. You can rub it all over your body and face to make your skin softer. You can even swish it around your mouth for whiter teeth like Gwyneth. But where it really shines (literally) is in your hair routine. As versatile as it is nourishing, there are tons of ways you can use the kitchen staple to boost shine, repair damage, and protect your strands. Read on for the best ways to use coconut oil for hair that’s strong and healthy.

Coconut oil benefits for hair

First things first, while coconut oil works like magic on a wide range of concerns (like dullness and frizz), there’s one thing it doesn’t do: moisturize. In fact, no oil does. Rather, like most oils, coconut oil is a powerhouse emollient (meaning it softens and smooths), and it’s occlusive (meaning it helps trap moisture and emollients in your hair). Think of it as a sealant. It goes to work to keep nutrients and moisture in, as well as any damaging chemicals (like chlorine) out.

While all hair types can benefit from the reparative Vitamin E and amino acids in coconut oil, according to hairstylist Lauren Grummel, it’s best for thicker hair types. She says you’ll want to check the label to make sure you’re using pure, extra virgin raw coconut oil, since anything with additives can be harsh on your scalp. And if you do have thin hair? Try using a product that contains coconut oil as an ingredient (more on those below) instead of applying it straight from a jar.

So, what does coconut oil do for your hair exactly?

1. It adds shine and softness.

If your hair’s looking or feeling a little lackluster, coconut oil can help bring back its healthy, glistening sheen. That’s mostly thanks to its occlusive properties, which again, help lock in moisture.

2. It helps repair damage.

Because of it’s unique structure, coconut oil is actually able to prevent protein loss, keeping hair from becoming damaged and fragile.

3. It helps smooth down frizz.

Oils are a great alternative to silicone-based frizz tamers, which can weigh down your hair. Just keep in mind that a little goes a long way. A few drop where you need it will do the trick.

How to use coconut oil for hair

Coconut oil can be used to as a hair treatment to repair damage and add shine in tons of different ways, here are nine of our favorites.

1. Use it as a traditional hair mask.

Hairstylist Alex Brown likes to use coconut oil to whip up a homemade hair mask that’s great for repairing damage. She says to whisk together two tablespoons of coconut oil and one egg, and apply it evenly to towel dried hair. After 20 to 25 minutes, shampoo and condition as usual. You’ll find that your hair will look and feel softer and smoother.

2. Wear it as an overnight treatment.

If your hair is really damaged, Grummel says it’ll benefit from an eight-hour soak. Apply virgin coconut oil to dry hair, pop on a bonnet or headscarf, and go to sleep. If you don’t wrap your hair, Grummel warns that the oil may ruin your pillowcase, so be sure to use one you don’t care about or replace it with an old t-shirt for the night. The next morning, rinse out the oil and shampoo and condition as usual.

Kourtney Kardashian Clapped Back at a Mommy-Shamer Who Said Her Son Reign’s Hair Is Too Long

As the Kardashian family is wont to do, Kourtney Kardashian took to Instagram on Tuesday, April 14, to share with the world how she and her kids celebrated Easter this past weekend.

The slideshow included gorgeous photos of tasty treats, colorful eggs, and a heart-shaped waffle, as well as an adorable video of her son, Reign (featuring the voice of daughter Mason), reacting to their Easter gifts. “A Quarantined Easter story,” she wrote in the caption, adding that the presents were from Kris Jenner. Unfortunately, not everyone was focused on the positive.

Now, there’s a lot to chime in on here. For one, after claiming that the Easter Bunny delivered presents, Mason immediately called B.S., saying, “No, mom, I saw those in the garage!” Also, there’s definitely at least one Dior box in those gift bags. However, for some reason, one troll decided to take issue with Reign’s [check notes] hair? According to People, one commenter wrote, “Bruh cut your son hair…smh.” Mind your business.

Obviously, Kardashian couldn’t let that stand. “Most gorgeous hair on Earth anyone who says otherwise ABCDEFG,” she wrote in response. If you’re wondering what the hell “ABCDEFG” means, Kardashian is referencing her famous line from Keeping Up With the Kardashians, which many have begun replicating on TikTok. ABCDEFG = “This conversation is over.” Don’t ask us why.

For whatever reason, this is far from the first time trolls have hit up Kardashian’s comments section to complain about Reign’s long, beautiful hair. Haters have been coming at the reality star about this since at least 2018, when she shared an image of her son by the pool.

“Reign is so cute! But cut his hair! I can never tell if he’s Penelope or himself,” one commenter wrote at the time along with plenty of other similar comments by other mommy-shamers. Apparently, telling the difference between Reign and Penelope is of dire consequence for absolute strangers. How about everybody worries about themselves? ABCDEFG.

16 Best At-Home Hair Color & Hair Dye Boxes in 2020

If social media has anything to say about it, we’re all starting to wonder what the best at-home hair color is. Call it self-care or feeling stir crazy, but with hair salons closed for the time being because of the coronavirus pandemic, learning how to dye your hair at home is suddenly sounding better by the minute.

Luckily, it’s easier than ever, as both salon and drugstore hair dye brands have stepped up their game, and there are tons of options for tinting, dyeing, and refreshing your hair in the comfort of your own bathroom. To really get it right, colorist Lauren Grummel says the first thing you should do is reach out to your stylist, since they can help recommend a touch-up option (thank them by Venmo’ing a consultation fee or buying a gift card to use for your next appointment). Some stylists are also offering video consultations, or they can help you over the phone or email.

If you want something drastic, your best bet is waiting until you can make it to the salon. When coloring your hair at home, it’s best to stay close to your natural shade, and Grummel recommends only going either two or three shades lighter or darker. She also says to consider the tone of your hair (cool, warm, neutral) and stick with dye in the same shade family. Another thing to consider? “It’s typically easier to go darker at home, as long as your only going about two to three shades darker,” says Grummel. “You can’t go from platinum to dark brown—it will look very flat and murky.”

She also recommends sticking to glosses and tints at home, since it will be much easier (and cheaper) for your salon to fix if something goes wrong. Another way to avoid a costly fix is only touching up the color around your hairline, and one inch on either side of your part. Two things you should either leave to the pros or attempt with serious caution? Doing your own highlights or going platinum. “Whether its breakage or brassiness, so much can go wrong here,” Grummel strongly warns. If you’re considering it, just keep in mind how much it will cost to fix if things go south.

Now that we’ve got the basics out of the way, read on for the best at-home hair color, from full-on dyes to tinted shampoos, and check out our full guide to dyeing your hair at home for more tips and tricks.

Miley Cyrus Cut Her Own Hair Into a Joe Exotic Mullet

Miley Cyrus is like so many of us during social isolation—bored and left to our own devices when it comes to our beauty and grooming regimens. From roots growing in to brows growing out, we’re all looking at ourselves in the mirror these days and thinking, “Sure, I can totally do the job I usually pay skilled professionals for…”

And the singer is no different. She revealed during her Instagram Live talk show Bright Minded that she attempted (operative word here) to cut her own bangs. Cyrus told reality star Kristin Cavallari and hairstylist Justin Anderson about how she combed all her hair forward from the back before starting to trim—which is generally not what a seasoned stylist would do. “Lucky for me, I’m not going to be seeing anyone,” she said, joking that she’s the one person who won’t be mad if the social distancing orders continue into June.

Anderson says this is definitely a “dangerous” time for Cyrus because, while she’s low-maintenance when it comes to styling her hair, she often wants little “tweaks” to her look. Considering she called another friend to drop off thinning shears in her mailbox, we’d have to agree.

Miley’s never been one to take beauty too seriously, though (remember when she let her mom cut her hair?), so she’s been a good sport about her quarantine cut. Fans have jumped in, too, and quickly started pointing out the similarities between Cyrus’s cut and Joe Exotic, the main subject of Netflix’s wildly popular documentary series, Tiger King.

“Miley Cyrus really out here looking like the Tiger King,” one fan tweeted. “Whyyy does Miley have the Joe Exotic cut????? Lmaoo Rolling on the floor laughing ,” another wrote. “All I’m saying is… have you ever seen Miley Cyrus and Tiger King in the same room together?” one person jokingly wondered.

While we wouldn’t necessarily copy Cyrus’s technique if your bangs need a trim, she is truly pulling off this look in a way only she can. Let’s just seriously hope the tattoo liner isn’t next.
