Shailene Woodley Reveals She Was ‘Very, Very Sick’ While Shooting the Divergent Movies

Shailene Woodley revealed that her acting career almost ended, just when it was starting to take off.

While promoting her new movie Ending, Beginnings, the Big Little Lies star told The New York Times she battled with a life-threatening medical condition that nearly forced her to “let go” of her career while filming the Divergent movies.

“I haven’t spoken much about this yet publicly, and I will one day, but I was very, very sick in my early twenties,” Shailene Woodley shared. “While I was doing the Divergent movies and working hard, I also was struggling with a deeply personal, very scary physical situation.”

Without going into specifics, Woodley revealed she was forced to take a step back from the spotlight. “Because of that, I said no to a lot of opportunities because I needed to get better, and those jobs ended up going to peers of mine who I love,” she explained. “They went on to a lot of success, but there was a mix of people saying, ‘You shouldn’t have let that go!’ or ‘You shouldn’t have been sick!'”

Though the 28-year-old didn’t elaborate on the details of her illness, she said it was unclear if she’d be able to continue working. “I was in a place where I had no choice but to just surrender and let go of my career, and it brought out this negative voice in my mind that kept spinning for years and years afterward,” Woodley said, adding that outside factors were also adding to the destructive narrative.

“In my late teens, I had a strong idea of my identity and the meaning of my life, but then I went through an abusive relationship,” she said. “That combined with, honestly, the commercial success I had in this industry began to wear on my strength.”

The actor, who became a household name for The Secret Life of the American Teenager in 2008 and The Fault in Our Stars in 2012, starred as Tris in the 2014 dystopian film trilogy, Divergent, which also included Insurgent in 2015 and Allegiant in 2016. A fourth movie titled Ascendant was scheduled for a 2017 theatrical release but was canceled—allegedly for fiscal reasons.

Thankfully, Woodley told the publication that she has since fully recovered from her health scare and is in a better place now. “Now I’m on the other side of it, thank God,” she said. “A lot of the last few years has been about focusing on mental health for me, and it’s a slow process. But because of that work, I feel very grounded and rooted in who I am and very clear about everything in my life, whether it’s my career or my relationships or my own internal worth.”

Woodley added, “I feel very grateful to have walked that line of fire because now I know what I don’t want to ever go back to.”

Chrissy Teigen Reveals She Got Breast Implants When She Was 20

Chrissy Teigen shares so much of her life that you might think you know everything about her—but you’d be wrong.

In a new interview with Glamour UK, Teigen revealed for the first time that she got breast implants when she was younger. Teigen, of course, rose to fame as a swimsuit model, and that job can come with its own specific pressures about body image.“Yeah, I did my boobs when I was about 20 years old,” she said. “It was more for a swimsuit thing. I thought, if I’m going to be posing, laid on my back, I want them to be perky! But then you have babies and they fill up with milk and deflate and now I am screwed.”

In true Teigen fashion, she kept the conversation extremely real after the revelation. “Honestly, I kept them the same cup size. I just filled them out, so they are rounder and firmer,” she said. “I had a quarter ‘teardrop’ cup in the bottom and filled out the breast line. But I want them out now. If I could do one thing, it would be to have a lift. I think you’re supposed to replace [implants] every 10 years. But when you have kids you think about [the risks] of surgery and I think, ‘This is not the way I want to die, in boob surgery.’”

Teigen’s relationship with her weight and her body image has evolved, too, after having her two children, Luna and Miles, with husband, John Legend. “I used to weigh myself every morning, afternoon and night,” she told the magazine. “I knew what the scales would say after each meal. I did that for eight years and had this one weight I wanted to be at. That changed with Luna, and really changed with Miles, where it took me a year to be comfortable with my new normal number.”

As we said, this is far from the first time, Teigen has gotten extremely personal in an interview.s Back in 2017, she opened up to Glamour about her struggle with postpartum depression after giving birth to Luna in an emotional essay. “I also just didn’t think it could happen to me. I have a great life. I have all the help I could need: John, my mother (who lives with us), a nanny,” she wrote. “But postpartum does not discriminate. I couldn’t control it. And that’s part of the reason it took me so long to speak up: I felt selfish, icky, and weird saying aloud that I’m struggling. Sometimes I still do.”

“I’m speaking up now because I want people to know it can happen to anybody and I don’t want people who have it to feel embarrassed or to feel alone,” she continued. “I also don’t want to pretend like I know everything about postpartum depression, because it can be different for everybody. But one thing I do know is that—for me—just merely being open about it helps.”

When Teigen was honored as a Glamour Women of the Year in 2018, it was due, in part, to her openness and authenticity—even when that means uncertainty. “I still don’t know my exact job title,” she told us. “I have no idea what is going to happen six months from now. I don’t know anything. But maybe that’s the way it works for a lot of people. And I’m OK with that.”

It’s so refreshing to hear someone as famous as Chrissy Teigen talk about issues so many women can relate to. We hope she never stops sharing whatever pieces of herself she’s comfortable with.

'Dublin Murders' Star Killian Scott Reveals He's Got a Thing for the Spice Girls, The Office, and Karaoke

Do you like rom-coms? Do you have a favorite?

Yes! I don’t think Four Weddings and a Funeral or Notting Hill can be surpassed in that genre. Love Actually must also join the list.

What’s a dating or relationship “rule” you think is BS?

I honestly don’t know what they are but my guess is all of them.

Fill in the blank: “I love when my partner…”

… has seen Sinead O’ Connor’s performance of Mandinka at the 1989 Grammys on YouTube because it’s the best thing I’ve ever seen or heard.

You have a full day to binge-watch whatever you want: What do you pick?

The Wire. Or for comedy, the US version of The Office.

What’s the sexiest thing about yourself?

I can do a really shit handstand. I’m also from Ireland and so is Colin Farrell. Aren’t we all just trading on that?

What’s the weirdest thing you do in your alone time?

You have no idea how much that question appeals to my sense of humor. But probably the weirdest thing I do in my alone time that I will tell you is stare at a picture of Albert Camus on my wall.

Have you ever ghosted someone?

I hope not. I think that’s so shitty and boring and mean. But I probably have, unfortunately.

Screw, marry, kill: weed, pizza, a cocktail?

Kill weed, screw the cocktail, but in a non-committed considering imminent regret fashion, and happily wed the pizza.

What’s your hangover cure?

More alcohol. Nothing else at all makes a dent for me.

You stop by a convenience store on your way to a house party. What are you buying?

Cigarettes and chewing gum. I like in the States that you can buy the little cans of beer so I’d buy a bunch of those too.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Wedding Photographer Reveals Moments From Behind-the-Scenes

You may have thought you already saw and knew everything about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s 2018 wedding, but turns out there’s a lot that went on behind-the-scenes.

In a recent interview with Evening Standard, the royals’ official wedding photographer Alexi Lubomirski chatted about his experience and shared some rules that needed to be followed, including a strict one which didn’t allow for any PDA.

“There are definitely boundaries,” he told told the publication. “You can’t have them kissing, you can’t have them screaming and running through the garden, and obviously you have to see the ring. But I think it’s within those guidelines that the creativity happens.”

But despite not being allowed to show their affections for one another—apart from that big kiss as they exited their wedding chapel—Lubomirski said the couple’s magnetic chemistry spoke for itself.

“[Prince Harry] would be talking and she would look at him, she’d be smiling at what he said, and then he’d look at her and there’d be this spark between them,” he explained. “I get tingles just thinking about it. They were a young couple in love and it was so cute.”

Lubomirski still did his best to keep the photos “authentic” to the Duke and Duchess. “They are a very modern couple and they have an authenticity to them, so I knew I wanted to break how they were seated,” he shared. “Instead of having the rugby team photo as it were, I wanted to have this sort of random rhythm, like waves.”

As for the couple’s iconic photo on the steps, Lubomirski said he captured it just minutes before the photoshoot was over.

“The Palace official was looking at me saying, ‘We’re going to have to turn around soon,’ and I was like, okay, okay, ‘Just sit down on these stairs.’ And they literally just sort of slumped down, laughing,” he recalled. “Sort of looking at each other going, ‘Oh my god, we’re married.’”

Ugh, these two!

Kim Kardashian Reveals She and Paris Hilton Had a Joint Halloween Costume Planned

Kim Kardashian West appears to be on a quest to become the queen of Halloween. Normally, we’d say she could never beat the masterful work of Hiedi Klum, the one true Halloween master among us, but in a new interview with Vogue, Kardashian revealed a costume so good it could have won contests the world over. And it even involved Paris Hilton.

In a video she made for Vogue‘s Life in Looks series, Kardashian takes viewers through her many different iconic fashion eras. And, of course, things kick off with a photo of her and Paris Hilton circa 2006. In the photo, Hilton and Kardashian make their way through Australia, both wearing metallic outfits and holding massive matching metallic Louis Vuitton Alma bags.

“Oh my god, this look. This is literally one of my favorite, most iconic looks,” she said while smiling at the photo.”This is what Paris and I were going to be for Halloween this year. But we ran out of time. I think we need to do this next year. How fun would that be?”

Fun indeed. While the world may have missed out on a truly nostalgic Halloween, Kardashian at least spilled a little tea on what was really inside those massive bags. It turns out, it was nothing.

“Paris does not take care of her purses, so if you see what’s inside of her bag there’s a million things,” Kardashian said. “Makeup, lashes just everything. It’s like a pharmacy inside of her bag, so I would not let her put anything inside of her bag. It’s an empty bag that she’s carrying.”

The good news is, it may be easy for the duo to pull off this classic look for Halloween 2020. That’s because Kardashian admitted she took both of the bags and still has them stored away in her own closet for safekeeping. Kind of makes you wish you kept all your old 2006 styles too, right?

While we may not have gotten a dose of early aughts fashion via a Kardashian-Hilton joint costume this year, the reality star still had plenty of noteworthy Halloween looks, including a spot-on homage to Legally Blonde, an ultra-creepy family bug costume, and a sweet Flinstones look.

Gossip Girl Writer Reveals Dan Humphrey Wasn't the Original Gossip Girl

Good morning, Upper East Siders! Gossip Girl here, and have we got a scoop for you. While it was revealed in the finale of the popular CW show that the one and only Dan Humphrey, AKA Lonely Boy, AKA a writer who somehow managed to get his work placed in both The New Yorker and Vanity Fair during the show despite never really actually writing, was the brains behind Gossip Girl. However, according to the show’s writer and executive producer Joshua Safran, Dan wasn’t the original choice for the titular character who chronicles the lives of Manhattan’s elite: it was Nate Archibald!

BuzzFeed reports that Safran stopped by the Vulture Festival to talk both the original show and the upcoming HBO reboot, and he spilled the beans about how Dan ended up as GG.

“I like to joke that Dan was Gossip Girl because I had left the show by then. Dan was not my intended Gossip Girl, so honestly, you’d have to ask someone else,” he said. “But I understand why Dan was Gossip Girl. I just had my heart set on Nate.” And apparently, before Nate, he thought Serena’s brother Eric van der Woodsen should have been Gossip Girl, which makes a lot of sense when you think about it. (We, like Blair, thought it was Dorota.)

“We worked hard to kind of lay in tiny seeds about it being Eric, and then the NY Post wrote an article saying that Gossip Girl was Eric so we were like, ‘We gotta scratch that,'” Safran revealed. “Then one of the writers realized that Nate had never sent a tip in to Gossip Girl, which is true at least through the end of season five. Nate never sent in a tip in through all of those episodes, which is when we’re like, ‘Oh, well then he’s Gossip Girl.'” Imagine if Nate had been able to incorporate Gossip Girl into his newspaper, the Spectator!

Safran is returning for the GG reboot, and while we don’t know when the show will premiere, we do know that it’s set about 12-13 years after the finale, so in “real time,” and will feature high schoolers at Constance Billard Academy, Serena and Blair’s alma mater. The original cast won’t be in the new show (we think), save for Kristen Bell as narrator, and the cast will be more diverse than the ’00s version.

That’s about all we know so far, so until it hits our TV screens, we’ll be busy rewatching the original series for the hundredth time and imagining what life would have been like had sweet, golden boy Nate been unmasked as Gossip Girl. XOXO!
