An Exclusive Look at Megan Angelo's Debut Novel, 'Followers'

One night, as Orla killed time out of frame, she looked down the press’s side of the carpet and saw the laminated paper she used to stand on—LADY-ISH.COM. There was a set of delicate, neon-polished toes covering the name that had replaced hers, and Orla followed them up to the rest of a girl who must have just finished college. Only recently had Orla come to accept that there was now a whole class of people living and working in New York who were several years younger than her, that they were not interns who had overstayed their summers—they were here to stay and grow up and compete.

Orla walked toward the girl from Lady-ish. “Hi,” she said, feeling radiant, generous.

The girl looked up from scribbling on her notepad. She had enormous black-rimmed glasses, perfect olive skin, and nude lip gloss, shiny and pearly, the kind Orla would have thought was out of style. Self-consciously, she touched her own lips, which were a thick red Floss had talked her into.

“Huh?” the girl said. She studied Orla. “Oh. Right. You’re on Flosston Public. The bookish one, right? Orla.”

It was her brand, but Orla still flinched at being called bookish. Not knowing what else to do, she trilled, feeling fake, “I love Lady-ish.”

The girl broke into a knowing grin. “I guess you do,” she said. “You worked there a long time.”

Orla bristled. “Right,” she said, reddening. “It’s a great place to start out.”

The girl shrugged. “I went to Yale,” she said, as if this explained multitudes. “I won’t be there that long. I’m writing a play. About— Well, I shouldn’t say too much. My agent wouldn’t want me to. I swear it’s like her full name is Polly ‘Top Secret’ Cummings.”

Orla nodded, teeth frozen. The girl had to be bluffing, she thought. There was no way she was repped by Polly Cummings. Polly was a lioness of literary agents, one whose name Orla had known since high school, when she checked a guide to the industry out of the local library. Her senior year, she had mailed Polly a short story she had written, the same one that now made up most of her manuscript. She remembered the day she got the response from Polly’s office. Gayle had come running out to where Orla floated in their aboveground pool, waving the envelope—Polly’s response came by mail, because it was only 2005—“Polly Cummings wrote back!” “I see promise here. Keep going!!—P,” said the Post-it on top of the packet Orla had mailed. Beneath the Post-it was another sheet, a half page of typed feedback. Now that she knew how these things worked, Orla understood that the letter had been written by an assistant—this was back when people Yale Girl’s age were expected to be assistants, not self ordained playwrights. Yale Girl was full of shit, Orla ruled. But something must have crossed her face, doubt or envy or fear, because Yale Girl smiled suddenly, like she had won a race between them. Just before she turned to see who else was coming down the line, Yale Girl looked at Orla with pity in her eyes. “Anyway, good luck,” she said. “I mean it.”

Orla was already shuffling away when she realized: the bitch hadn’t even bothered asking her a question.

Photos of Prince Louis at His Trooping the Colour 2019 Debut

Although a lot of eyes were on Meghan Markle during this year’s Trooping the Colour parade on Saturday (June 8), it was Prince Louis who stole the show. The 1-year-old child of Prince William and Kate Middleton attended his first public royal event, along with the rest of the family, to officially celebrate his great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II’s 93rd birthday. He made his debut on the Buckingham Palace balcony alongside his siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte, where he not only showed off his royal wave but provided us with a number of super-cute photos. Let’s just say he takes after his brother, Prince George, when it comes to making funny faces—and the photographic evidence exists.

P.S. Peep the little prince’s outfit—Louis was dressed in a blue-and-white ensemble, complete with a pair of patent leather shoes. There’s something special about the look: According to People, the outfit was actually worn by Uncle Harry when he made his debut at Trooping the Colour in 1986. And before that, Prince William wore the outfit during a family trip to Balmoral in 1984 with Prince Charles and Diana. Gotta love some royal hand-me-downs with a sweet meaning behind them.

We hope the tradition is passed on to baby Archie, who will most likely make his first appearance at the event next year as he’ll be a year old—the same age Prince Louis is now. Until then, enjoy the most delightful pictures of the littlest royal’s debut, below.

Meghan Markle Just Made Her First Public Appearance Since Prince Archie's Debut

Meghan Markle might still be on maternity leave, but she wound up making her first public appearance since Prince Archie’s debut a little early anyway. According to the BBC, the Duchess of Sussex showed up along with Prince Harry and Kate Middleton to the annual Trooping the Colour ceremony on Saturday at Buckingham Palace. But it wasn’t just Markle who made a debut of their own: It was the first Trooping the Colour appearance for Kate Middleton and Prince William’s son Prince Louis, too.

There were already rumors that Markle would make an appearance for the day: The celebration is held each year in honor of the reigning sovereign’s birthday—in this case, to mark Queen Elizabeth’s 93rd, which was technically back in April—and so it’s one of the most important events on the official royal calendar.

The first glimpse of Markle came when she, Middleton, Camilla, and Prince Harry rocked up to the London palace in a horse-drawn carriage, as royals do.

'Stranger Things' Stars Natalia Dyer and Charlie Heaton Make Their Red Carpet Debut as a Couple

If you watch Stranger Things, then you know all about the dramatic love triangle between Jonathan (Charlie Heaton), Nancy (Natalia Dyer), and Steve (Joe Keery). It’s one of the biggest narratives on the show—who needs Demogorgons and Dart when you have this trio of beautiful, angsty teens? Of course, Nancy and Steve are the OG couple on the show, but the end of Stranger Things 2 implied that it’s Jonathan who will ultimately end up with her.

And that would be some awesome synergy, seeing as how Heaton and Dyer are also dating in real life. Yes, my friends, there is a Stranger Things romance blossoming off screen, and it’s actually been going on for a while: Rumors of their relationship starting bubbling up in March. When a TMZ reporter asked Dyer if she and Heaton were an item, she said, “Whether people are dating or hanging out, I think that our cast just is cool with each other. I mean, I won’t speak for anybody else but it’s been, you know…We’re all one big family.” OK, that wasn’t exactly a confirmation—but it wasn’t a denial, either.

But confirmation came just a few months later, when photos of them holding hands in Paris starting making the rounds. If that’s not enough evidence for you, though, try this one on for size: Heaton and Dyer attended last night’s Fashion Awards in London and made their red carpet debut as a couple.

Check out the photos, below. Heaton and Dyer are one of the chicest couples in Hollywood, hands down.

Ava Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon's Daughter, Made Her Debut in Paris Looking Like a Real-Life Princess

Reese Witherspoon’s look-alike daughter Ava Phillippe made her official society debut in Paris on Saturday night. And not only did she look like a real-life princess in her shimmering gold tea-length gown, she waltzed like one, too. (Hey, she might not be royalty-royalty, but she’s definitely Hollywood royalty.)

With her famous mom escorting her, the 18-year-old attended the Bal des Debutantes at the Peninsula Paris hotel. The event, which is in its 25th year, brings together around 20 young girls from around the world to celebrate their entry into society.

Phillippe looked incredible in a gold, long-sleeved Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown that was basically made for the Kira Kira app (so shimmery). Before the event, she posed on the red carpet with Witherspoon, who looked beyond proud and wore a black floral embellished gown and black fur coat.

The debutante entered the ballroom with her dapper escort for the night, Maharaja Padmanabh Singh of Jaipur, who was dressed to the nines in a formal tuxedo. According to People, he’s known in Parisian circles as “Pacho,” has been known to polo with royalty—in particular, future heir to the British throne Prince William—and is a member of India’s national team for the sport.

The duo took to the dance floor for a waltz to a song from La La Land—and the pair practically looked like professionals as they twirled around the room. People reported that Singh told journalists he only learned the waltz steps only a few weeks before, so sign this duo up for Dancing With the Stars. They were that good.

Steve Harvey’s daughter, Lori, was among the other debutantes there. The two American women join the ranks of other celebrity debs including Demi Moore and Bruce Willis’ children, Scout and Tallulah Willis, as well as Sylvester Stallone’s daughter, Sophia Rose Stallone, who have also attended the spectacular Parisian event.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Will Reportedly Make Their Official Debut as a Couple in September

There’s been a very exciting development in today’s royals news: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, that couple-that-isn’t-official-but-everyone-knows-they-are we all have in our social circle, are going to be making their first joint appearance together. Finally.

The Daily Mail reports that the ginger prince and Suits star will step out for the first time together at the Invictus Games in Toronto on September 23. (The palace has not yet confirmed this.) That fair Canadian metropolis also happens to be where Suits is filmed, meaning their first time being Publicly Official will be in her adopted home. So cute.

It’s also a big deal because the Invictus Games, an international athletic competition for soldiers and veterans, is a cause close to Harry’s heart. (Another cause he’s passionate about? The mental-health foundation, Heads Together, he leads with Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, AKA Kate Middleton. He is too good for this world.)

We know that their love is pretty much on fire right now: she flew to London to be with him for his birthday in August, and last week, she opened up by telling the world that “we’re in love.”

According to the Daily Mail, the two aren’t doing their romance transatlantically, however: “She and Harry currently stay in Nottingham Cottage, a small two-bedroom house in the palace grounds.” Cosy Cozy! However, she (likely) hasn’t met the Queen yet: protocol dictates you don’t usually do that until the ring’s on the finger.

However, according to the same newspaper of record, the Palace is also working to get Markle’s Suits publicity commitments toned down a bit, “an apparent clearing of the decks and part of what some are calling ‘Operation Princess.”

If this means what it is easily read to mean—indeed, says the Mail, the two are “as good as engaged”—well, 2018 is looking up.
