Reese Witherspoon's Draper James Is Giving Free Dresses to Teachers

It should be a surprise to absolutely no one that Reese Witherspoon has jumped into action to do what she can to help during the coronavirus pandemic. She doesn’t just play women who get things done, she is a woman who gets things done.

There are so many people going above and beyond in their communities right now, including health care workers and first responders. But our nation’s school teachers have also had their worlds upended, and they’re working hard to adjust their lesson plans and stay connected to their students who are now going to class from their homes. Witherspoon and her lifestyle brand Draper James are saying thank you with free dresses by way of their “Draper James ❤️ Teachers” initiative. Draper James will also offer teachers 25% off online orders for Teacher Appreciation Day on May 5.

“These past few weeks have shown me so much about humanity. I’m an eternal optimist, so I always look for the bright side of things. And I have been so encouraged by the ways people are really showing up for each other. Particularly the teachers,” Witherspoon said in a press release. “During quarantine, teachers are broadcasting lessons from their own homes and figuring out new remote-learning technology and platforms on the fly, all while continuing to educate and connect with our kids. Advocating for the children of the world is no easy task, so I wanted to show teachers a little extra love right now.”

The brand seconded its founder’s sentiment on Instagram: “Dear Teachers: We want to say thank you. During quarantine, we see you working harder than ever to educate our children. To show our gratitude, Draper James would like to give teachers a free dress.”

We love this idea so much and Draper James’ adorable day dresses are perfect for teachers to wear to work—whether they’re back in the classroom or holding class via Zoom.

‘Little Fires Everywhere’ Review: Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington’s Hulu Series Is Gripping

Hulu

Speaking of the ’90s, the show goes to great lengths to accurately portray fashion and beauty standards as they existed before the turn of the century. “We really tried to strike a balance in the production design and wardrobe design so that it felt real without feeling campy,” Washington says. “We didn’t want you to think we we were having a ’90s costume party.”

Part of the fun in that is watching Elena go from a Kathy Smith–esque workout queen in the morning to a Talbot’s power-suit-wearing working woman in the afternoon. Add in an iconic ’90s playlist (everything from Annie Lennox to Hootie and the Blowfish) and delightfully dated phrases (“I’m already over my minutes this month,” Elena says of her car phone), and you have the makings of a classic.

Hulu drops the first three episodes today, March 18, but will then release one a week for the remainder of the series run. Witherspoon says that unique rollout plan will help set up the world before “everything changes.”

It’s also why Washington thinks you should wait to read Ng’s book until after you finish the TV series. “They are different enough,” she explains. “We’ve made enough small changes that it could be confusing to read it and watch at the same time. But if you haven’t read the book, you have to at some point.”

As for the show, Witherspoon and Washington can’t wait to see what conversations the series will provoke. “Part of our instinct as human beings is to evaluate and judge others, and that’s part of the experience of watching this,” Witherspoon says. “It’s going, Am I like them? Or, Am I like her? Or, I know someone just like her. All of that will shift and change by the time you get to the end. It takes you to a lot of places that are unexpected.”

Witherspoon is right. Even in today’s must-see-TV landscape, I haven’t been this gripped by developments on screen in some time. Washington and Witherspoon’s commitment to bringing Ng’s story to life comes through in every way. “We gave so much of ourselves in the making of it,” Washington says, “and we want people to be inspired to do the same.”

Reese Witherspoon Admits She Was Too Scared to Reprise Her Role on Friends

Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston are currently starring on the The Morning Show together, but it’s not the first time they’ve shared the small screen. Years ago, Witherspoon made two cameos as the younger sister of Aniston’s character Rachel Green on Friends. But the actress recently revealed why she declined offers to return to the sitcom for more appearances.

Witherspoon talked about the experience during a joint interview with Aniston for the AP Entertainment this week. During the discussion, the interviewer asked Aniston what she had learned from acting in front of a live audience for so long, and Witherspoon excitedly chimed in to praise Aniston’s skills. “She’s so good in front of a live audience,” Witherspoon gushed. Aniston returned the compliment and said, “You are [good] too. You forget it because you blacked out of fear,” referencing the episodes in which Witherspoon played Jill Green in 2000. “She was so good,” Aniston told the interviewer and then said to Witherspoon, “You were flawless.”

Then, Witherspoon revealed that she actually had a chance to continue on the show, but she turned it down. “Did you know they asked me back and I said, ‘No, I can’t do it,’” she said. “I was too scared.”

“How dare! How doth you say this, Aniston joked. “You got scared… What a shame.”

Witherspoon went on to say she feels “panic” in those live situations (but she said she doesn’t mind giving speeches). And, she’s clearly put her fears aside enough to not just star in some of the biggest shows of the decade, but to produce them as well, so we’d say she’s doing okay.

There have been solid rumors of a Friends reunionrecently—maybe Witherspoon would be willing to make another little visit to Central Perk? We are here for the Green sisters.

Reese Witherspoon Still Has all 77 Pairs of Shoes From 'Legally Blonde 2'

Everyone’s constantly reliving the legendary film Legally Blonde: Ariana Grande honored the movie in “Thank U Next” and Kim Kardashian paid homage to Elle Woods with an epic Halloween costume. But Reese Witherspoon is still the best Elle Woods there is—especially because Witherspoon recently revealed she even has the iconic wardrobe to back up her performance. She shared that after Legally Blonde 2 wrapped, she got to keep the clothes from the set, including all 77 (!) pairs of shoes that Woods wears in the movie.

Appearing on The Graham Norton show this week, Witherspoon admitted that she currently has all of the footwear from Legally Blonde 2 casually laying around in her closet. “How many pairs of Jimmy Choos?” host Graham Norton asked her. The actress, who was sitting next to a shocked Jennifer Anniston, responded it was, “like 77.” She added, “I had it written in my contract…I have all of them.”

Even though she has all of them, she hasn’t been putting too many Elle Woods outfits together lately. She explained, “I’ve never touched them [in real life] and then on the 15th anniversary I took them all out of storage and tried them all on. Some of them fit, some of them didn’t, and then I showed them all to my daughter and it was really cool.”

Witherspoon has confirmed that Legally Blonde 3 is on its way, which means we’re going to have another chance to see some more brilliantly pink Elle costumes. Maybe a few pairs of the shoes Witherspoon has will make an appearance in the latest installment; we have a few favorites we wouldn’t mind seeing again, including the bright red boots, the fuzzy slippers, and the glittering sandals that she paired with her Jackie O-inspired outfit.

The One Where Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon Take a 'Friends' Quiz

Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon have been making the rounds promoting their latest project, The Morning Show on Apple TV Plus. This has likely been exhausting for them, but delightful for all of us—we need these two to work together forever.

In a recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show, he got the duo—along with Sir Ian McKellan and Dame Julie Andrews—to take part in a little Friends trivia. With McKellan asking the questions, Witherspoon predicted that Aniston would ace the quiz. “Oh, she’s gonna win,” she said, to which Aniston replied, “Oh, I don’t know that.”

Aniston got the first question about what Rachel Green was wearing in her first scene. It was, of course, a wedding dress. Next up, Witherspoon answered with her iconic line from the episode where she plays Aniston’s younger sister, Jill: “Can’t have? The only thing I can’t have is dairy!” (The two actresses even recreated the scene recently.)

Remember when Rachel ruined the British trifle by putting beef in it? So does Aniston. And she even sang a few bars of “Baby Got Back” after the audience correctly remembered it as the song that Rachel and Ross used to get baby Emma to fall asleep. Not to be outdone, Witherspoon chimed in with the first line of the famed Friends theme song by The Rembrandts. But it was Andrews who got the final word by correctly answering the final question of the night.

“When Ross dated Rachel, why did he feel it was fine to sleep with other women?” McKellen asked.

“I know it! It’s because he said, ‘We were on a break,’” she replied. Ding, ding, ding! Sadly, there was not a follow-up where Andrews weighed in on whether Ross was right in that belief.

Honestly, everyone was probably just glad they didn’t have to identify Chandler Bing’s job.

Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon Just Recreated an Iconic Friends Scene

Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon are getting ready for the premiere of their new series The Morning Show, but fans who’ve followed the actors throughout their careers know they first were seen together on Friends. Jennifer Aniston, of course, played Central Perk regular Rachel Green; Reese Witherspoon guest starred as her little sister, Jill Green, for a few episodes. In a recent interview, the pair turned the nostalgia dial up to one hundred by recreating one of their iconic scenes together—and it’s a joy to watch.

When Aniston and Witherspoon sat down with Access Hollywood last week to discuss The Morning Show, the interviewer brought out a photo of Aniston and Witherspoon across from each other on the Central Perk couch. Aniston immediately recognized the snap from a scene Witherspoon loved. “Is this where you say the line that you love so much?” she asks Witherspoon in the video.

The question ends up being an invitation to recreate their scene. “This is, well, we can say the line,” Witherspoon says. “Do you remember your line?”

Aniston doesn’t remember, so Witherspoon whispers it in her ear. (Teamwork: We love to see it.)

“I say, ‘You can’t have Ross,’” Aniston recites. Then Witherspoon swoops in with the punch line: “Can’t have? Can’t have? The only thing I can’t have is dairy.”

Both actresses have done some reflecting on the show that brought them together in recent weeks. For the November cover of Harper’s Bazaar, Witherspoon spoke to Natalie Portman about acting alongside Aniston on Friends in one of her early acting jobs.
