Halsey Opens Up About Feeling ‘Inadequate’ After Experiencing a Miscarriage

Halsey is ready to talk about her miscarriage, an experience she recently described as “demoralizing.”

In a new interview with The Guardian, the 25-year-old pop star said she regrets sharing this part of her personal journey in the past after some now-deleted social media posts were the target of online abuse.

“It’s the most inadequate I’ve ever felt,” she explained. “Here I am achieving this out-of-control life, and I can’t do the one thing I’m biologically put on this earth to do. Then I have to go onstage and be this sex symbol of femininity and empowerment? It is demoralizing.”

In the past, the singer has been open about her struggles with endometriosis—a condition that causes the tissue that normally lines the uterus to grow outside of it and can lead to infertility in up to half of the women with the diagnosis.

During a 2018 episode of The Doctors, Halsey explained her miscarriage happened while she was on tour.

“Before I could really figure out what that meant to me and what that meant for my future, for my career, for my life, for my relationship, the next thing I knew I was on stage miscarrying in the middle of my concert,” she said. “And the sensation of looking a couple hundred teenagers in the face while you’re bleeding through your clothes and still having to do the show, and realizing in that moment that I never want to make that choice ever again of doing what I love or not being able to because of this disease.”

Thankfully, she told The Guardian that her latest prognosis is positive and motherhood is “looking like something that’s gonna happen for me. That’s a miracle.”

In January, while promoting her Manic album, Halsey also told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe that she wrote the lyrics to her song “More”—which is about her deep desire to have a baby—after doctors informed her that her treatments and healthier lifestyle have made it possible for her to have a healthy pregnancy.

“It was a moment where I felt like I had leveled up in life. It was this like, ascension into a different kind of womanhood,” she said. “I wrote the lyrics to ‘More’ in like, four minutes or less. It just spilled out of me.”

Lili Reinhart on Feeling ‘Insecure’ About Her Body Image on the Set of 'Riverdale'

Since making her debut as Betty Cooper in 2017, Lili Reinhart has used her following to increase awareness about body image and mental health—including her own struggles. So when a Riverdale fan recently asked the actress on Twitter what it’s like belonging to one of TV’s most “chiseled” casts, Reinhart’s answer was an honest reflection on how the show has impacted her body image.

In a tweet that has since been deleted, a Riverdale fan pressed Reinhart to address her role among her “chiseled” co-stars. Reinhart responded, explaining that acting on Riverdale has made her feel “intimidated” and “insecure” in her own skin.

“Actually, not everyone on this show is perfectly chiseled. And even I feel intimidated by the physique of my surrounding cast mates sometimes when I have to do bra/underwear scenes,” she said. “I’ve felt very insecure due to the expectation that people have for women on tv, what they should look like.”

But Reinhart is trying her best to leave those expectations behind her. She continued, “I have come to terms with my body and that I’m not the kind of person you would see walking on a runway during fashion week. I have bigger boobs, I have cellulite on my thighs/butt, and my stomach sticks out rather than curves in.”

In a profession where women’s bodies are often scrutinized, Reinhart added that she’s felt even more insecure in recent months due to weight gain caused by her depression. But not everyone has the same body shape or size—and Reinhart’s hoping she can remind fans of that despite her “daily” struggles with body image.

“This is still something I struggle with on a daily basis,” she wrote, “and it doesn’t help when I’m being compared to other women. I have gained weight due to depression the last two months and I’ve felt very insecure about it. But I did a recent bra and underwear scene and felt it was my obligation to be strong and show confidence in myself, looking as I do. And I want other young women to see my body on tv and feel comfort in the fact that I’m not a size 0. And I’m not a perfect hourglass shape.”

Hours later, Reinhart spoke out again when online commenters insinuated the experiences she shared about her body image weren’t authentic. “How sad is it that I come forward about my insecurities and people have the audacity to tell me that my feelings aren’t valid,” she tweeted. “People like this, the ones who leave these ignorant comments, are the reason why people don’t speak out and end up struggling alone.”

She elaborated about the post again on her Instagram stories. “Imagine telling someone that their feelings are irrelevant and they should be quiet based on what you deem to be acceptable or not. Can’t relate,” she wrote.

@lilireinhart

It’s going to take more than a few Internet trolls to silence Reinhart. From her appearance at Glamour‘s Women of the Year Summit in 2018 to her recent CoverGirl campaign, she’s used her time in the spotlight to address difficult-to-discuss issues like acne, body image, and anxiety. The reason? She wants to make those conversations more positive for future generations, including her own children.

“I think about when I have kids in the future,” Reinhart said in her Glamour WOTY Summit speech. “Will my daughter be self-conscious about gaining weight? Will she feel the need to explain her body or justify it to anyone as it changes? Will she feel that same need that I do now—to apologize to her peers and say, ‘My body doesn’t usually look like this,’ or ‘I’m just a little heavier than usual right now’? How utterly ridiculous is it that we even think about explaining the nature of our bodies to other people?”

Fans can expect to hear even more honestly from Reinhart when her debut poetry collection, Swimming Lessons, arrives in May.

Miley Cyrus Released a Christmas Song About Feeling Lonely This Holiday Season

Miley Cyrus has released a new track titled “My Sad Christmas Song” for anyone who has a broken heart this holiday season. The singer posted a link to her SoundCloud on December 21, as well as shared a poignant message to let her fans know they’re not alone.

With lyrics like “I turn on the radio/ I binge watch our favorite shows/ This year feels kind of lame/ But the last one was the same,” the song describes the heavy feeling of the holiday blues—especially if you’re missing a loved one.

“A sad Christmas song I wrote a few years back right before the holidays,” Cyrus wrote on Instagram. “Was feeling like s**t cause I couldn’t be with the one I loved. Even with a house full of family and friends I still felt alone.”

She continued, “In ways that still feels relevant and someone reading this right now could possibly relate! If you feel lonely this season just know YOU ARE COMPLETELY MADE OF MAGIC!”

“You are as special as a snowflake, beautifully unique and I hope inside your soul feels light, hope, peace, and joy knowing how singularly amazing YOU are! Love always wins!” Cyrus added.

After dropping the song, the pop star received a lot of love on Twitter from fans who said they needed to hear her message after losing their loved ones.

Though Cyrus didn’t reveal who inspired the track, chances are she’s referring to ex-husband Liam Hemsworth.

In 2015, the two were months away from reconciling since they were spotted at a musical festival in January 2016. This time of year is also reminiscent because Cyrus and Hemsworth had a secret December wedding at their home in Nashville last year.

The couple have since gone their separate ways after announcing their split over the summer.

Since then, Cyrus has been linked to Cody Simpson, but breakup rumors have been swirling since Simpson was recently spotted with another woman. Perhaps Cyrus was sending a pointed message with her new track as well?

Sex After C-Section: Sex After My C-Section Helped Me Stop Feeling Like I’d Failed Giving Birth

It turns out that tiny strips of silicone can help reduce the appearance of scars. You place them on top of the wound at night, and over time the scar fades. I wasn’t home a few hours from the ob-gyn before ordering a jumbo pack online. The sooner it came, the sooner I could start getting rid of This Thing.

Before the scar, stretch marks, and baby, my marital sex life was hot. We were the kind of couple who often wouldn’t make it to the bedroom, christening the couch or a beach blanket in our desire. I felt confident as I figured what my husband saw in me was what I saw in the mirror: a former collegiate swimmer with small perky breasts and firm thighs. After my C-section, with grayish purple lines dancing around my nipples and lower abdomen, and a scar cutting through my pubic region, I’m not so seamless, the physical changes a reminder of what my body has been through.

When we were cleared to have sex after five weeks, I was excited to be close to my husband again but apprehensive about how it’d go. I wasn’t feeling particularly seductive—with breast milk leaking out of my nipples and my hair in an unwashed bun, I wasn’t exactly turning myself on. My body and mind had been through a transformation, one that felt far from anything bedroom-related.

But something changed when we had sex, my angry scar on full display. Naked again with my husband, I not only felt worthy; I felt hot. I felt reminded that my body is powerful, feminine. After all, it brought our baby safely into this world, vaginal birth or not.

“Pin me down,” I commanded, hardly believing how confident I felt. My husband grinned, never more willing to oblige. I finally felt like the strong, beautiful woman my husband had been telling me I was. His excitement for me—scar and all—reminds me to embrace myself more fully.

Our scars are difficult to accept. They remind us of something in our lives that didn’t go quite as we expected. But they are also a part of our journey, our story, our beauty. My C-section brought me my giggling babe. It brought me closer to my partner. Perhaps most important, it brought me closer to loving myself even when things don’t go to plan.

When I think about it that way, I don’t hate my scar at all. In fact, I don’t need those silicone strips. I never even opened the box.

Maisie Williams Has a Message for Fans Feeling ‘Uncomfortable’ About Arya’s Sex Scene

Last Sunday’s episode of Game of Thrones featured a divisive Arya Stark sex scene that everyone still seems to be talking about. You know the one: Arya and her longtime friend slash travel companion Gendry crossed paths for the first time in a while and decided they were ready to take things to the next level. It didn’t take long for the moment to go completely viral.

But while some people were glad to see Arya finally get something resembling a normal teen storyline, others were frustrated by the sexualization of a character who’s proved her autonomy time and time again. If you thought the scene was just awkward overall, Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark, has one necessary reminder: This whole process has been way more uncomfortable for her.

On Tuesday she tweeted some pretty hilarious insight: “if u feel uncomfortable just know that my mother and my step dad and my 2 sisters and my 4 brothers have all probably watched this too ahahakillmeehehe,”

OK, you win, Maisie. Having your family watch your character—who grew up before the world’s eyes—lose her virginity onscreen would be pretty uncomfortable.

“At first, I thought it was a prank,” Williams told Entertainment Weekly about the sex scene. “I was like, ‘Yo, good one.’ And [the showrunners were] like, ‘No, we haven’t done that this year.’ Oh f–k!”

In the end, though, she thought it was compelling as a new development for her character: “It was really interesting because it’s a very human relationship for Arya,” she also told EW. “This is something she’s stayed away from, an emotion we’ve never really seen her engage with.”

This isn’t the only Arya plot point fans are buzzing about: Many seem to think Podrick’s haunting song in Sunday’s episode predicted Arya’s death. We know just how unforgiving the show’s creators are, so we’re already preparing ourselves in case our favorite warrior is the next to go.

The Big Bang Theory Season 12, Episode 19 Recap: Amy Is Feeling the Pressure of the Nobel

Nobel Watch 2019 continued on The Big Bang Theory this week as Amy and Sheldon were forced to do damage control following their outburst (well, Amy’s) in front of laureates, peers, and imposters (Pemberton and Campbell, for those keeping track). It’s no Game of Thrones cliffhanger, but it’ll do, especially since we’re down to the last five episodes. Shamy has to win the Nobel eventually, right?

If it’s going to happen, President Siebert and Ms. Davis (Oscar winner Regina King, praise be) tell Sheldon and Amy that they’re going to have to run a near flawless campaign the rest of the way. That means keeping their mouth shut and not throwing accusations at anyone. “The science world is a small community. People talk,” Siebert says. The only thing to do is lay low and cancel all further speaking engagements.

But then, as if Sheldon and Amy don’t already know this (I mean, why do you think Amy had her outburst?), Ms. Davis says that “winning the Nobel is very important to us, and not just the university. Dr. Fowler, you would only be the fourth woman to win a Nobel prize in physics.” I have trouble believing that Amy isn’t aware of this, but apparently it’s news to her. Ms. Davis piles on the pressure by also pointing out that a win for Amy would be inspirational to an entire generation of young women. Hey, Ms. Davis and President Siebert, here’s a news flash: Why don’t you tell that to the fellow Nobel winners voting for them? Amy already knows she has to be on her best behavior, so what’s this added pressure going to do?

Well, for the sake of the next 18 minutes of the episode, it drives the story forward. Amy is so overwhelmed by potentially being only the fourth woman to win a Nobel in physics that she goes through an entire stick of antiperspirant in an hour. Leonard—clearly worried about the amount of sweat that Amy is producing—suggests that she and Sheldon (who’s also panicking) self-soothe in a sensory deprivation tank.

Michael Yarish/Warner Bros. Entertainment

Shamy decides that self-care can’t be that bad and end up soaking in a tank that looks more like the egg-shaped vessel that Lady Gaga rode in on at the 2011 Grammys than anything else. I’m claustrophobic just looking at it.

Anyway, while Amy’s inside the vessel she sees an image of Ms. Davis talking to her and reiterating the dismal stats of female Nobel winners. That’s followed by images of young women blaming Amy for ruining their chances to win a Nobel. “I was going to be a scientist, but since you lost, I’m just going to have to give makeup tutorials on YouTube!” says one young woman. “Thanks for letting us down,” says another. “You’re such a disappointment!” adds someone else. Maybe this should be the punishment for all the parents involved in Operation Varsity Blues, but what on earth did Amy do to deserve this?

When the hour is up, Sheldon is calm as can be while Amy panics and calls herself a failure.

That afternoon, Amy’s more anxious than ever. She tells Sheldon it was bad enough when she was letting the two of them down; now if she doesn’t win the Nobel she’ll be letting all women down. Sheldon doesn’t know what to do except to Google “what to do when someone’s freaking out.” It says a walk can be calming, so Sheldon does that. It’s rude, but funny.

When he gets back, Amy is still upset so Sheldon asks Leonard and Penny for some advice. Leonard says the only thing he can do is just be there for Amy, but Sheldon doesn’t seem to know what that means. Penny points out that Amy’s always taking care of him, so perhaps that’s why it’s so hard with the roles being reversed. I don’t agree. Even though Sheldon will always think about Sheldon, he’s grown a lot in this area over the last few years. He knows what to do. The whole thing is kind of been there, done that.
