The Dixie Chicks Just Released Their First Song in 13 Years

The Dixie Chicks are back to take their rightful place as queens of country rock. With “Gaslighter,” the first single off their upcoming album of the same name, the trio isn’t easing their way back. They’re coming in swinging.

Back in 2003, the industry basically shunned Martie Erwin Maguire, Emily Erwin Robison, and lead singer Natalie Maines after Maines publicly criticized President George W. Bush during a concert in London (she said she was “ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas”). This was not the first time that year they’d drawn the ire of their own peers and audience. A few months prior, they faced major backlash for posing nude on the now-iconic cover of Entertainment Weekly.

The band teased “Gaslighter” with an Instagram of the word’s definition: “a psychological manipulator who seeks to sow seeds of doubt in a targeted individual or in members of a group, making them question their own memory, perception or sanity.” Sound familiar?

If you think we’re over-playing the cause of their shortened career (until recent collabs with Beyoncé and Taylor Swift, of course) or that their political history didn’t have a major impact on the industry, just listen to what Swift had to say about why she hid her own political opinions for years.

“I come from country music. The number one thing they absolutely drill into you as a country artist, and you can ask any other country artist this, is ‘Don’t be like the Dixie Chicks!’” Swift told The Guardian. “I watched country music snuff that candle out. The most amazing group we had, just because they talked about politics. And they were getting death threats. They were made such an example that basically every country artist that came after that, every label tells you, ‘Just do not get involved, no matter what.’”

That story got a happy ending, at least. Taylor Swift started to speak out (check out her documentary Miss Americana for more on that), and the Dixie Chicks were featured on the Lover song “Soon You’ll Get Better.” Now, it’s time for the Dixie Chicks to stand on their own. With “Gaslighter,” the band is making their perfectly harmonized voices heard once again, and nobody is going to stop them. Watch the full video, below:

Lady Gaga Just Released Her New Song, ‘Stupid Love,’ and It's Incredible

Lady Gaga made her triumphant return to pop music on midnight Friday (February 28) with “Stupid Love,” her first solo single in nearly three years. And, my friends, it was well worth the wait.

The track is classic Gaga: big, bright, and booming, with eighties-style electronic production and an anthemic chorus. It’s a welcome return to form for the singer, whose last pop record, Joanne, was more stripped-down and acoustic than the shiny electro-dance of albums past. “Stupid Love” finds Gaga squarely back in club territory—it’s a song tailor-made for sweaty sing-alongs underneath a shimmery disco ball.

It’s also unlike anything on top 40 radio right now. Save for Dua Lipa’s “Don’t Start Now,” the top 10 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 is quite moody and downtempo—not a sugary bop in sight. If “Stupid Love” impacts radio (which fingers crossed it will), it could bring BPM and bombast back into pop. And who doesn’t need that right now?

The music video for “Stupid Love” is equally as colorful, starring Gaga as an alien princess of sorts who’s determined to bring love and light to her conflicted world. Watch the video (and hear the song) for yourself, below:

Gaga teased the video for “Stupid Love” earlier in the day on February 27. Again, the imagery—eccentric, over-the-top, and avant-garde—feels like classic Gaga.

The single art is equally as dynamic:

“Stupid Love” has had quite the journey. In January, a demo of the track leaked in full and quickly went viral. Fans loved it, and it was, confusingly, prematurely played in nightclubs, sporting events, and performed by drag queens. Gaga addressed the leak with a cheeky tweet essentially asking her Little Monsters to be patient:

But the wait for new music is over. Lady Gaga’s sixth studio album is on its way, though details and a release date are unknown at this time. Thank goodness “Stupid Love” is a supremely delicious jam that will keep us satiated for a while.

Listen To Billie Eilish's Spooky New James Bond Theme Song

Update (February 14): Billie Eilish released her new James Bond theme song, No Time To Die, on Thursday, February 13. In true Eilish fashion, it’s smoky and spooky, and a little mournful. Eilish is by far the youngest person to write or perform a Bond theme song—the new movie, starring Daniel Craig as Bond for the fifth and last time, will hit theaters in the US on April 10.

Until then, we’ll keep Billie on repeat.

Billie Eilish has joined one of the most exclusive musical clubs in the world.

What do Louis Armstrong, Madonna, Adele, Paul McCartney, Shirley Bassey, Duran Duran, and Tina Turner have in common? They’ve all performed Bond songs: the iconic singles that traditionally open James Bond movies. And now Eilish, who recently turned 18, will add one to the catalog.

She’s by far the youngest person to write and sing a Bond theme, and definitely the only one who has the middle name Pirate. She and her brother and longtime collaborator, Finneas, wrote the theme song together for the 25th Bond movie, No Time to Die, which is due out April 8.

“It feels crazy to be a part of this in every way,” Eilish said in a statement, adding that the opportunity is “a huge honor.”

“James Bond is the coolest film franchise ever to exist,” she said. “I’m still in shock.”

No Time To Die disappointed some fans when it was announced that, despite rumors, for the 25th time, 007 would be played by a male actor (Daniel Craig, in his fifth go-round as the vodka-swilling MI6 agent). But there will be feminist influences on this film that go beyond the surface-level girl-power of hot women holding guns: Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the Fleabag genius, is one of four credited cowriters.

Demi Lovato Says New Song 'Anyone' Was 'a Cry for Help'

Demi Lovato is ready to return to music. In a new interview with New Music Daily with Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1, she opened up about the brand new song she’s performing at Grammys 2020, a song that was written four days before her apparent overdose.

As Demi revealed to Zane, the track is titled “Anyone,” and she described it as a heavy and emotional look at her mindset in the summer of 2018. “At the time when I was recording it, I almost listened back and hear these lyrics as a cry for help,” she said. “And you kind of listen back to it and you kind of think, how did nobody listened to this song and think, ‘Let’s help this girl.'”

Demi continued, noting that she had decided on sharing the song while still in the hospital. “I remember being in the hospital and listening to the song and it was about a week after I had been in the hospital and I was finally like awake, and I just remember hearing back the songs I had just recorded and thinking, ‘If there’s ever a moment where I get to come back from this, I want to sing this song,'” she explained.

The Grammys performance comes just days before Demi is scheduled to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl, and as she shared with Zane, fans will likely hear even more from her. She confirmed that more new material is coming after the release of “Anyone,” saying, “I think as time goes on, I’m going to tell more and more about it. With the next song that I have coming out I think I tell more of the story. With this one it just kind of tells you a little bit about where I was right before and right afterwards.”

Admitting that she is excited to share more new music with fans, Demi further hinted at possible musical collaborations with other artists. Although she didn’t confirm any names, she anticipated that 2020 would be a big year for her. Prepare yourself accordingly, Lovatics.

Miley Cyrus Released a Christmas Song About Feeling Lonely This Holiday Season

Miley Cyrus has released a new track titled “My Sad Christmas Song” for anyone who has a broken heart this holiday season. The singer posted a link to her SoundCloud on December 21, as well as shared a poignant message to let her fans know they’re not alone.

With lyrics like “I turn on the radio/ I binge watch our favorite shows/ This year feels kind of lame/ But the last one was the same,” the song describes the heavy feeling of the holiday blues—especially if you’re missing a loved one.

“A sad Christmas song I wrote a few years back right before the holidays,” Cyrus wrote on Instagram. “Was feeling like s**t cause I couldn’t be with the one I loved. Even with a house full of family and friends I still felt alone.”

She continued, “In ways that still feels relevant and someone reading this right now could possibly relate! If you feel lonely this season just know YOU ARE COMPLETELY MADE OF MAGIC!”

“You are as special as a snowflake, beautifully unique and I hope inside your soul feels light, hope, peace, and joy knowing how singularly amazing YOU are! Love always wins!” Cyrus added.

After dropping the song, the pop star received a lot of love on Twitter from fans who said they needed to hear her message after losing their loved ones.

Though Cyrus didn’t reveal who inspired the track, chances are she’s referring to ex-husband Liam Hemsworth.

In 2015, the two were months away from reconciling since they were spotted at a musical festival in January 2016. This time of year is also reminiscent because Cyrus and Hemsworth had a secret December wedding at their home in Nashville last year.

The couple have since gone their separate ways after announcing their split over the summer.

Since then, Cyrus has been linked to Cody Simpson, but breakup rumors have been swirling since Simpson was recently spotted with another woman. Perhaps Cyrus was sending a pointed message with her new track as well?

Selena Gomez Just Dropped a Second Song That Fans Think Is About Justin Bieber

Selena Gomez fans, a.k.a. the Selenators, were delighted last night when she dropped her second single in less than 24 hours. “And here’s my special gift to all of my ride or dies! I created this with Apple especially for you,” she wrote on Instagram. “Y’all have been through it all with me and I thank you for pushing me to be the best. Look At Her Now is out now. ❤️ #ShotOniPhone.”

In “Look At Her Now”, Gomez is singing about a breakup, and once again fans think she’s referring to her past relationship with Justin Bieber. “They fell in love one summer/A little too wild for each other/Shiny ’til it wasn’t/Feels good ’til it doesn’t,” she says in the opening lyrics. “It was her first real lover/His too ’til he had another/Oh God when she found out/Trust levels went way down.”

Gomez goes on to say that it took a few years to process the end of the relationship, but in the end the breakup was a good thing. “Of course she was sad/But now she’s glad she dodged a bullet. Took a few years/To soak up the tears/But look at her now/Watch her go.”

Listen to the song for yourself, below:

Fans were definitely here for it on Twitter.

Gomez also took to Instagram Live last night with a message for her fans about treating others with kindness. The move seems to be in response to the drama surrounding her and Bieber’s now-wife, Hailey Baldwin. (After Gomez released her first song yesterday, “Lose You to Love Me,” Baldwin posted an Instagram Story that some fans perceived to be a dig at the singer.) “”I am so grateful for the response of the song. However, I will never stand for women tearing other women down,” Gomez said. “So please be kind to everyone.”
