This Conservative Blogger's Chart Shaming Working Moms Predictably Sparks Outrage

A blog post from a conservative Christian mommy blogger is taking over the parenting corner of the Internet, a place that often has more discord than the halls of Congress. Lori Alexander, a.k.a. The Transformed Wife, posted a chart titled “Should Mothers Have Careers?” in which she compared her thoughts on working moms versus stay-at-home moms—and it’s really something.

Alexander is a full-time homemaker who has been married for 39 years and has four grown children and nine grandchildren. Her About section on Facebook reads, “Learning about marriage, raising children, homemaking, and being a godly woman who desires to be transformed into the image of Christ!”

In the flowchart, she directly compares and contrasts her perception of the lives of working and stay-at-home moms. For example, in the SAHM column she writes of dinnertime, “Dinner is from scratch, nutritious, and delicious” whereas with working moms, “Dinner is usually fast food or microwaved.” She also says working moms lack time for intimacy and that their lives are “falling apart,” whereas SAHMs spend weekends at the beach and are totally fulfilled.

It’s easy to see why people are angry—and the ire coming from both sides of the mommy aisle. (Not to mention that staying at home is not a financial option for many families.) “Motherhood is not a competition. Moms in both groups have challenges to face that are not more important than the other,” wrote one commenter on the Facebook post. “Also, welcome to 2018 where dads are like, fathers and stuff now, who also help with domestic duties such as cooking, cleaning and! (Are you ready for this? Clutch your pearls) help take care of the children. ?” Another said, “I have been a stay-at-home and work-from-home mom for the last 16+ years. This chart is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen in my life.”

“Staying home with a three-year-old makes me feel like more of a failure as a mother than working out of my house EVER did! Also, if this stay at home mom is resting when the children do, when is she preparing that from scratch meal and cleaning so she is free to spend weekends at the beach?” another commenter remarked.

People are Twitter were equally upset.

When Glamour reached out to Alexander, she said she did not intend to shame working mothers but “I simply want them to ponder their life paths.” She explained that she is “teaching Christian women biblical motherhood according to Titus 2:3–5 in the Bible, where God commands older women to teach younger women to be ‘keepers at home.'”

“No one can take the place of a mother in a child’s life. I was a career woman for the first two years of my first child’s life, and I could totally relate to the left side of the flowchart,” she told us. “I knew I was the one that was supposed to be at home raising my own children. Most women aren’t even told that this is good! Homemakers are embarrassed when asked what they do. What can be more important than raising the next generation?”

As for the viral backlash, Alexander says she’s had it since she started writing in 2011 and won’t let it “steal her joy.”

“I teach what I am called to teach and leave the results in the Lord’s hands.”

The 'Bachelor in Paradise' Season 5 Trailer Is Here, and It's Predictably Bonkers

“This place is as beautiful as me,” Jordan Kimball says at the top of the Bachelor in Paradise season five trailer, which just dropped today—and that just about sums the entire clip up. Yes, my friends, we’re less than a month away from the start of Bachelor in Paradise, and if this trailer’s any indication, we’re in for some daiquiri-covered narcism.

Jordan isn’t the only fan favorite who’s on full display in this trailer. There’s also Krystal Nielson, from Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s season. Remember her? She’s the one who allegedly called Arie a “needle d–k” and freaked out over a bowling game or some nonsense? Anyway, midway through this trailer, Krystal—while wearing a towel around her back like Supergirl—says to a fellow islander, “I do what I want” before literally snapping her fingers and walking away. That sounds….exactly like something Krystal would do.

There’s also Bibiana Julian, also from Arie’s season and Bachelor Winter Games, who said she was “broken” because Arie was ignoring her on the show. That’s ridiculous for many reasons, mostly because Bibiana could do so much better than Arie (as can every other human on this planet). She gets her third shot at love on BiP, but all she does in this trailer is cry her eyes out and then say, “I’m having so much fun,” so I’m already worried for her.

Peep the trailer for yourself, below:

The only saving grace here is Joe Amabile, the grocery store owner who was wrongfully booted during episode one of Becca Kufrin’s season. He’s also on Bachelor in Paradise this season and appears in this trailer for just one second. “Boom,” is all he says, and just like that I’m ready for marriage.

Bachelor in Paradise kicks off August 7 on ABC.

'SNL' Did a Skit About the Royal Wedding Reception, and It's Predictably Amazing

SNL celebrated its season finale this week—and of course, they didn’t miss out on the opportunity to write a skit about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s over-the-top royal wedding. Predictably, it’s hilarious—even Elton John, played by the ever-amazing Aidy Bryant, makes an appearance. (And bless the show’s hard-working wardrobe team: They even nailed the uniform Harry got married in.)

In the hilarious sketch, Prince Harry (played by Mikey Day), takes viewers around the royal reception for his “official wedding video.” There, he shows off just how weird and awkward things can get when Americans and British royalty party together.

Harry first chats with an inebriated Kate Middleton, (played by Cecily Strong) who says she’s there to have a good time.

“Well, yeah, you know, for the past six years I’ve been like pregnant the whole time,” Middleton tells Harry as she giggles her way through her words. “So I’m going hard tonight!”

“How much have you had to drink?” Harry asks.

“One glass of champagne!” Kate giggles before running off camera.

The sketch also involves a twerk-off between Princes Harry and Will—however, their dancefloor moves are cut short when their grandmother, the Queen, spots the pair’s shenanigans.

Then, Harry cuts out of the main room to show the camera another room where the “randos” are—the guests who show up “even though you didn’t think they would.” They include one of Meghan’s friends, a “briefcase girl” from Deal or No Deal; a member of Harry’s royal family known as “Auntie Creepie;” Russell Brand, who predictably didn’t wear a shirt to the royal wedding; and a very happy Elton John.

John (played by Aidy Bryant), sings his way through his time with Prince Harry, telling the young prince to “Hold me closer, tiny ginger,” and admitting he’s having a great “Saturday! Saturday, Saturday!”

Do yourself a favor on this lovely Sunday and watch the wonderful clip for yourself:

Donald Trump Trolls Women's March With a Predictably Selfish Tweet

A year after millions of women around the world marched against President Trump’s inauguration, the Women’s March is back with a vengeance for round two.

The slew of recent sexual abuse allegations and the rise of the #MeToo movement during Trump’s first year as president has inspired women and people everywhere to march for much needed social and political change for the second year in a row.

And amid all of this year’s inspiring action, Trump unsurprisingly took to his Twitter account to tweet his thoughts on the matter.

All things considered, his tweet started off on a strangely good note. “Beautiful weather all over our great country, a perfect day for all Women to March,” he wrote. Okay, that’s a fine first sentence. But then things get weird. Rather than totally grasping or mentioning the actual reasons why people are marching on the streets — his administration, for one — he implied that the march was in celebration of his first year in office. He then encouraged his followers to get out to celebrate the country’s great economy, which by the way, was inherited from President Obama’s administration.

He continued: “Get out there now to celebrate the historic milestones and unprecedented economic success and wealth creation that has taken place over the last 12 months. Lowest female unemployment in 18 years!”

Subsequently, and not surprisingly, tons of people caught on to Trump’s ridiculous trolling. Scroll down for some recent reactions:

The Real Story Behind the 'Stranger Things' Snow Ball Scene Is Predictably Adorable

Season two of Stranger Things ends with (spoiler!) what might be the purest scene in all of pop-culture: The gang attending the Snow Ball together. They’re ostensibly there to have fun, but the kids treat the occasion with the gravitas of a life-or-death situation. Weeks earlier, these adolescents were fighting off a pack of demon monster dogs—but here they’re just as stressed, if not more so, about all the hallmarks of a school dance: first crushes, first dances, first kisses, first heartbreak. It’s so human to watch it hurts.

The plan was always to end the season this way. “Literally, from the beginning, from the very first moment talking about season two, we knew this had to end at the Snow Ball,” executive producer Shawn Levy told us at the Stranger Things premiere in Los Angeles. “We kept our mouth shut for over a year, but this was destiny. This is about all these characters coming together, and we were careful not to do things just because audiences wanted it. But you can’t deny the world Eleven and Mike at the Snow Ball! I don’t know that it gets better than that.”

No, it really doesn’t—especially because the dance allows for two important kisses to take place: one between Max (Sadie Sink) and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) and one between Mike (Finn Wolfhard) and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown). It’s a telling moment about where these characters are at heading into season three: The feelings between Max and Lucas may be newer, but their rapport is more comfortable than the more reserved (but still so, so passionate) affections between Mike and Eleven. “Neither kiss was firmly scripted,” Shawn explained. “But we really agonized over, ‘Does one kiss take away from the other kiss?’ And yet, Caleb and Sadie are so winning, so charming. It kind of finishes that storyline. Mike and Eleven, though, that’s almost the beginning of something. It’s a reunion, but it’s also a bit of a promise. Maybe there’s some of the answer as to what’s in season three in that kiss.”

Sadie agrees the relationship between Max and Lucas might end there. “If we’re being realistic here, what eighth grade relationship lasts longer than a few months?” she said. “Even that’s long! At my school, people date for two weeks and are like, ‘It’s not working out.’ But it’s cute, so maybe they’ll explore that.” Millie, meanwhile, thinks that Eleven’s hesitation comes from her being so laser focused: “I think it was her objective! She has a method!”

But regardless of how the characters were feeling, their IRL counterparts weren’t quite as invested. “The kids were mortified shooting those kisses,” Shawn joked. “Mortified! We had to do it a lot of times because the steady cam was going around and around. If the camera was in the wrong place, you wouldn’t see the kiss.”

But this wasn’t the first time Millie and Finn have kissed on screen—they had a moment in the finale of season one, too—so they’re basically pros at this point. “Finn is the only boy I’ve ever kissed,” Millie shared. “It’s easy to kiss him now! [Laughs] I know that sounds really weird, but it’s easy to kiss him!”

So easy, in fact, that Caleb sought some advice from Finn before the big scene. “He’s the master at it!” he explained. “He was like, ‘Just like that…[makes a smacking sound]. The kiss wasn’t that bad. It was cool, but it wasn’t like, ‘Oh my gosh, I loved it.’” It was, though, a big milestone for him: “It was my first kiss! I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m kissing Sadie. She’s my friend! Whoa! So I was like, ‘I’m just gonna kiss.’ But she came in for the kiss, so it wasn’t me making the first move.”

Cara Delevingne Dyed Her Pixie Chocolate Brown, Predictably Looks Awesome

No matter how strong-willed you are, it’s tough not to be swayed by trends. Even if you hate change and know you’d regret getting curtain bangs, seeing enough people wear a certain style can make you start considering it. This, however, is not the case when you’re Cara Delevingne. The many ways she’s worn her hair since buzzing it has been a victory cry for doing your own thing, and now she’s added to the repertoire with a look that’s completely new, even for her. She dyed her pixie chocolate brown.

Delevingne brought her freshly brunette color out for the first signing of her new YA book, which is on theme. New professional direction, entirely new hairstyle—who hasn’t been there? Well, most people, but that doesn’t have to dull the joy of watching Delevingne’s transformations. The cool, dark brown shade is a dramatic shift from the icy platinum she’s been wearing for the past few months, and a few notches darker than her natural light-brown color.

Clearly, Delevingne’s made a career out of following her gut and going her own way. (Remember when she invented eyebrows? Kidding, obviously.) But that said, this exact look’s not without precedent. Delevingne’s been brunette before: she tried out a chestnut color in 2014. It’s never been this short and dark, though, so the Winona-esque moment feels untapped.

PHOTO: Tristan Fewings

To recap, that brings the count of colors Delevingne’s tried to brunette, pink, blue, platinum, silver, strawberry blond, and auburn. It’s hard to say how long this one will stick around for, but no doubt Delevingne and her longtime stylist, Mara Roszak, will find something absurdly cool to do with it.
