Princess Beatrice Will Reportedly Have Her Wedding Reception at Buckingham Palace

The royal family has had a lot going on lately: In addition to all of the drama with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepping down as senior royals, there’s also a big wedding in the works.

Princess Beatrice and her fiancé Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are scheduled to wed later this year. And now, according to royal sources, Queen Elizabeth has decided to let Princess Beatrice have her reception at Buckingham Palace—something that hasn’t happened since Prince William and Kate Middleton got married there in 2011. (Royal fans will remember that Harry and Meghan wed at Windsor Castle and had a reception at Frogmore House. And Princess Beatrice’s sister, Princess Eugenie, also wed at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in 2018.)

The news comes as Princess Beatrice’s father, Prince Andrew, was suspended from his royal duties because of his connections to Jeffrey Epstein, the financier and convicted sex felon who died in 2019. According to the Daily Mail, Prince Andrew opted not to go to his daughter’s engagement party at the London restaurant Chiltern Firehouse because of the scandal. It’s unclear if Queen Elizabeth offered Buckingham Palace as a reception venue to Princess Beatrice before or after the engagement party, but her friends say she’s excited.

“Bea was delighted and very grateful to accept. It was a really special gesture as it will be the first wedding celebration at Buckingham Palace since William and Catherine’s in 2011,” an insider told the Daily Mail.

There aren’t many other details about what else is in store for Princess Beatrice’s wedding, but with a venue like Buckingham Palace it’s bound to be gorgeous. It will likely also be full of personal touches, which Princess Beatrice has already embraced; Just after she got engaged, she responded to everyone who sent her congratulatory messages with sweet, handwritten cards. They read, “Thank you so much for thinking of us after the engagement.” We’ll have to see what other details she’s planned when she ties the knot later this year.

Here's Everything That Happened at Princess Eugenie's Royal Wedding Reception

Princess Eugenie and Jack Brookshank’s wedding ceremony at Windsor Castle on Friday (October 12) had everything we hoped: a stunning Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos gown with a sweet meaning, some rare PDA from Kate Middleton and Prince William, and a viral moment from 5-year-old Prince George and his first cousin Savannah Phillips.

The couple, just like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, were treated to a royal luncheon hosted by Queen Elizabeth II herself. But according to People magazine, the evening reception held at The Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park, owned by Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, is where things really got fun.

According to The Sun, a British tabloid, the park on the property was set up like a carnival, complete with a Ferris wheel, bumper cars, games, and fall-colored string lights.

The English singer Robbie Williams, who’s been friends with Princess Eugenie for many years, also hopped on stage for an impromptu performance of his hit songs and other classics. According to People, Williams’ 6-year-old daughter Theodora—who was a flower girl in the wedding—took the stage with her dad to perform a duet of “Angels.”

On top of the night’s fun activities, George Clooney and Rande Gerber’s Casamigos tequila company, which Brooksbank works for, passed out the good stuff for celebrity guests like Demi Moore, Kate Moss, and Ricky Martin, and a gourmet pizza truck provided the food. Basically, it sounds like the wedding reception of dreams.

The party reportedly will continue into tonight with another carnival-themed party, because why stop at just one? We’re still waiting on the invites, but, you know, there’s still a few hours to go.

Why Meghan Markle's Stella McCartney Reception Dress Won't Be on Display With Her Wedding Gown

Looks like we’ve got a bit of a good news/bad news situation on our hands in regards to your prospects of seeing Meghan Markle‘s iconic wedding dresses in real life. While her custom Givenchy Haute Couture ceremony gown by Clare Waight Keller will be on display for the entire world to see as of October 26, the Stella McCartney number she changed into for the evening reception will not. Instead, it’ll be kept private.

According to a spokesperson for The Royal Collection Trust, Markle has chosen to keep the sleek white halter dress as a part of her personal collection instead of showing it off to the public. “Because Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding reception was a private affair, the bride’s second dress will not be showcased,” Hello! reports.

So, you might not be able to see the incredibly glamorous dress that sped through the streets in a vintage Jaguar, but the Givenchy gown Meghan wore to walk down the aisle at St George’s Chapel will be put up at Windsor Castle as part of The Royal Collection Trust’s latest exhibition, “A Royal Wedding: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex,” which opens in October. That, plus Markle’s shoes, veil, tiara, and accessories will be on view through January 6, 2019.—before moving to the Palace of Holyroodhouse from June 14, 2019 to October 6, 2019.

If you were a big fan of Markle’s second Royal Wedding dress, though, there’s still the option to go straight to Stella McCartney herself: Earlier this summer, the designer announced she would be creating a limited-edition capsule collection inspired by the Duchess of Sussex. Plus, we have a feeling we’ll be seeing plenty of boatneck and halter wedding gowns over the next few years, thanks to Markle.

There Was a Hilarious Hidden Detail at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Second Royal Wedding Reception

It’s been exactly one week since the now-Duke and Duchess of Sussex tied the knot at their royal wedding in Windsor Chapel. And although it seemed like the entire world was watching what went down inside the church—Harry’s lip bite, Bishop Michael Curry’s epic sermon, the Kingdom Choir’s amazing “Stand By Me” rendition—the couple decided to make their evening wedding reception a highly private event for their nearest and dearest.

Guests at the reception, of which there were only around 200, were not allowed to bring their cell phones inside—understandably, details of the afterparty hosted by Prince Charles have remained pretty under wraps. But because this was undoubtedly where the real fun was had, we obviously want to know everything we can.

According to Vanity Fair, James Corden and Serena Williams allegedly played beer pong, and George Clooney, Kate Middleton, Meghan, and her mother Doria Ragland all took part in a dance-off competition. Prince William also apparently roasted his brother in his best man speech.

Now, a new detail has emerged, and it proves this couple has the best sense of humor. Meghan Markle’s close friend, Jania Gavankar, shared the hilarious way Meghan and Harry poked at their respective American and British nationalities during their reception.

According to the True Blood actress, each table at the reception at Frogmore House was named after a food that’s pronounced differently in the United States and in the United Kingdom.

“Potato, potato, tomato, tomato, oregano, oregano,” Gavankar told the magazine in a quote that doesn’t entirely translate well to print. “It was so sweet. There were so many nods to the beautiful mashup of two cultures.”

She also said the “family and chosen family” who were selected to attend the reception “danced until the wee hours. We partied and celebrated and ate sliders at 2 in the morning,” she said. “It was such a beautiful day and a carefree night, and it was a very powerful day in history. And I think everybody felt it across the world.”

'SNL' Did a Skit About the Royal Wedding Reception, and It's Predictably Amazing

SNL celebrated its season finale this week—and of course, they didn’t miss out on the opportunity to write a skit about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s over-the-top royal wedding. Predictably, it’s hilarious—even Elton John, played by the ever-amazing Aidy Bryant, makes an appearance. (And bless the show’s hard-working wardrobe team: They even nailed the uniform Harry got married in.)

In the hilarious sketch, Prince Harry (played by Mikey Day), takes viewers around the royal reception for his “official wedding video.” There, he shows off just how weird and awkward things can get when Americans and British royalty party together.

Harry first chats with an inebriated Kate Middleton, (played by Cecily Strong) who says she’s there to have a good time.

“Well, yeah, you know, for the past six years I’ve been like pregnant the whole time,” Middleton tells Harry as she giggles her way through her words. “So I’m going hard tonight!”

“How much have you had to drink?” Harry asks.

“One glass of champagne!” Kate giggles before running off camera.

The sketch also involves a twerk-off between Princes Harry and Will—however, their dancefloor moves are cut short when their grandmother, the Queen, spots the pair’s shenanigans.

Then, Harry cuts out of the main room to show the camera another room where the “randos” are—the guests who show up “even though you didn’t think they would.” They include one of Meghan’s friends, a “briefcase girl” from Deal or No Deal; a member of Harry’s royal family known as “Auntie Creepie;” Russell Brand, who predictably didn’t wear a shirt to the royal wedding; and a very happy Elton John.

John (played by Aidy Bryant), sings his way through his time with Prince Harry, telling the young prince to “Hold me closer, tiny ginger,” and admitting he’s having a great “Saturday! Saturday, Saturday!”

Do yourself a favor on this lovely Sunday and watch the wonderful clip for yourself:

Here's Everything We Know About Harry and Meghan's Second Royal Wedding Reception

The royal wedding ceremony was, as to be expected, simply stunning—that gown! the vows! the kiss!—and as soon as the carriage ride through Windsor was over, the 600 wedding guests and newlyweds gathered for the first reception of the day, which was hosted by the Queen.

Afterward, Meghan reappeared for the cameras changed into a sleek Stella McCartney gown—Harry in a tux—and the couple decamped in a vintage Jaguar to Frogmore House for their evening reception. This reception, hosted by Harry’s “pa” Prince Charles, saw a relatively small 250 people gathered at a royal retreat on the Windsor Castle grounds for what sounds like an incredible evening. The doors were closed to paparazzi and anyone not on the guest list—but here’s what we know so far.

Obsessed with the royals? Same. Click here to get Meghan Markle updates—and more—from our daily newsletter.

The venue was one-of-a-kind.

Tucked inside 33 acres of Windsor Castle’s private grounds—where Harry and Meghan picnicked when they first started dating—is Frogmore House, a 17th-century residence where the reception was hosted. Outside? A glass marquee which was rumored to be custom-built and thought to have cost £300,000, or more than $400,000.

There was a surprise host.

Prince Charles technically threw the bash, but the event was hosted—in a total surprise—host by James Corden, he of Carpool Karaoke and the Late Late Show.

They had a cute bus to take guests to the reception.

Guests staying at the Coworth Park Hotel in Ascot hopped on a double-decker bus to be transported to Frogmore around 7:15 P.M. Other guests came in their own cars, larger buses, and minivans. Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie rolled up in a Bentley around 7:30.

However, the carefully coordinated plans weren’t without some snags: According to The Sun, George Clooney, who pulled up in a silver Audi, was apparently “delayed by cops” before heading into the reception. “The Hollywood A-lister was seen in an animated discussion with security guards for 10 minutes at the Frogmore House after-party on Saturday,” it reported. (The policeman, however, reportedly had a big smile on his face, so all signs point to a friendly fan interaction.)

Photographs might be hard to come by.

According to ET Online, it’s likely that guests were asked to surrender their phones upon arrival—meaning that what happens at a royal wedding reception stays at a royal evening reception. Will and Kate asked their guests to do the same, and to date, nothing’s surfaced.

Of course, this means that the evening reception will be where all the fun really happens. At least we have this glimpse of Meghan and Harry driving off in their (gorgeous) Jag:

Meghan Markle made a speech.

Royal expert Katie Nicholl told ET Online that Meghan would make her first speech as the Duchess of Sussex at the evening reception.

According to the Daily Mail, Meghan thanked the royal family for welcoming her into the family.

So did Prince William—well, his was more of a roast.

William and Harry had shared some adorable brotherly moments walking up to the church and waiting for Meghan, but William apparently really shone at the evening reception. A roast of the groom by his best man is pretty par for the course at British weddings, and according to the Daily Mail, Will got a bit “naughty.” Oh, to be a fly on that wall.

The music was relatable—to a degree.

The couple, who reportedly took a lot of care choosing the music for their second, apparently got down on the dance floor to house music (Harry’s favorite, according to The Sun). Apparently the playlist was whipped up by Sam Totolee, who also performed at Pippa Middleton’s wedding last year. Sounds fair enough—but then Elton John sat down to the piano again. Incredible.

The food sounds amazing and totally down-to-earth.

According to British tabloid The Sun, guests at the wedding at some pretty great food. According to the Daily Mail‘s sources, guests sat down to “spring meets summer”-themed canapes and an an organic dinner lasting from 7:30 until 10.

There was more to come, too: After a long day (and after a few drinks), who wouldn’t want to tuck into “dirty burgers” as a midnight snack? Candy floss—that’s cotton candy to us Yanks—was also on hand for those wanting something sweet as the clock struck 12.

Their signature cocktail is adorable—and the rest of the drinks sound pretty great, too.

According to The Sun, the couple concocted a cocktail called “When Harry Met Meghan.” The base was rum, and ginger (yep, apparently in a nod to the Duke of Sussex’s hair) was also featured.

If you weren’t keen on the signature cocktail, there was a “drinks of the world”-themed bar, according to the Daily Mail.

Fireworks rounded off the night.

Did we expect anything less from a royal wedding?

The royal newlyweds didn’t have to worry about driving home.

According to Sky News, the couple and Royal Family spent their first night there, but guests were funneled out of an exit photographers didn’t have access to.

But the party didn’t end there.

Apparently a few guests headed out of the castle and into the big city for an after-after party, beginning around 1 A.M., at Chiltern Firehouse in the posh London neighborhood of Marylebone. According to the Daily Mail, there was another party in the works too—at a soundproofed private house in the equally-fancy neighborhood of Chelsea.
