Kate Middleton Shares Personal Portraits of Holocaust Survivors In Honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day

In honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, held on January 27 each year, Kate Middleton did more than show up to the annual U.K. Holocaust Memorial Day Commemorative Ceremony in Westminster. The Duchess of Cambridge also shared poignant photos of two Holocaust survivors and their grandchildren that she captured for an upcoming exhibition.

Middleton, who has taken some of the formal portraits of her children released to the public, photographed survivors Steven Frank and Yvonne Bernstein and their families at Kensington Palace to mark the somber occasion. And in honor of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, Middleton’s photos will be part of a larger show of 75 total images that the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, Jewish News, and the Royal Photographic Society have assembled.

“The harrowing atrocities of the Holocaust, which were caused by the most unthinkable evil, will forever lay heavy in our hearts. Yet it is so often through the most unimaginable adversity that the most remarkable people flourish,” read the caption of the official Kensington Royal Instagram page.

“Despite unbelievable trauma at the start of their lives, Yvonne Bernstein and Steven Frank are two of the most life-affirming people that I have had the privilege to meet,” Middleton continued. “They look back on their experiences with sadness but also with gratitude that they were some of the lucky few to make it through. Their stories will stay with me forever.”

The duchess photographed Frank with his granddaughters, Maggie and Trixie. According to the post, Frank was sent to the Theresienstadt camp where he and his brothers were three of just 93 surviving children. 15,000 children were sent there in total.

The second photo is of Bernstein with her granddaughter Chloe. Yvonne was one of France’s “hidden children,” escaping the Holocaust by “frequently changing homes and names” with her aunt and uncle.

“I wanted to make the portraits deeply personal to Yvonne and Steven—a celebration of family and the life that they have built since they both arrived in Britain in the 1940s,” the duchess added.

“The families brought items of personal significance with them which are included in the photographs. It was a true honour to have been asked to participate in this project and I hope in some way Yvonne and Steven’s memories will be kept alive as they pass the baton to the next generation.”

Frank said in a statement, “I would hope that the people who look at these pictures not only look at the beauty of the photography, but they will also think of the people behind the photos and their families that they lost in the Holocaust.”

The Kensington Royal Instagram account also released photos from today’s ceremony, where Kate and William spoke to survivors of the Holocaust and lit candles in memory of those who lost their lives.

Ariana Grande Dropped a Sequel to 'Thank U, Next' in Honor of Her New Fragrance

When she’s not tearing up the stage on tour, creating new fashion trends, or making us laugh and cry alongside her on social media, Ariana Grande is busy releasing delicious fragrances. She’s got a handful of sweet scents to her name, including Sweet Like Candy, Ari, Moonlight, and Cloud, all named after significant songs, lyrics, or, well, herself. Now a new frag named — what else — Thank U, Next is joining the family, and Ariana pulled out all the stops to promote it: She released a commercial-length sequel to her wildly popular ’00s movie throwback music video for the song of the same name, and we can’t stop LOLing.

The video, which clocks in at a little over a minute, opens with the same Mean Girls-style “I heard …” clips of “students” in a high school setting. “I heard that Ariana has a new perfume,” says her friend Colleen Ballinger, who appeared in the original music video while pregnant and now has a baby strapped to her chest. (Aww!) “I heard she sings to her rose garden every day. They get a private concert,” says another faux-student. “Well, I heard she swam with actual mermaids in the Bermuda Triangle and convinced them to give her the velvety musk of their new sea god,” says yet another. (Musk is a key ingredient in the Thank U, Next fragrance, in case you hadn’t figured that out.) “Rumor has it, she put part of her ponytail in it,” is another LOL-worthy rumor included in the video. We have a feeling she didn’t actually put strands of her hair in the mix, though you do see her snipping off a bit of her iconic style, but you never know!

Ariana doesn’t stop at Mean Girls, either. The Bring It On references are alive and well in the Thank U, Next fragrance commercial, with the Clovers and Toros cheerleaders making appearances. “I heard how she went to space to find the best pears for her little fragrance,” says the Clovers head cheerleader. “She should have just come to Compton.”

“Are you sure it was pear? I heard it was coconut,” says Ariana-as-Torrance Shipman, making her first appearance in the video. She shows up again to throw a little tongue-in-cheek shade at herself, saying, “Honestly, I’m not the biggest Ariana Grande fan, but I do hear the new fragrance is … somewhat promising.” Even her beloved dog Toulouse pops in towards the end. Everyone’s on board for Thank U, Next, and so are we!

Ariana trademarked the phrase “Thank U, Next” back in April, leading fans to believe that “Thank U, Next”-inspired body and beauty products were on the way. They were right! Thank U Next the fragrance is a creamy, juicy blend of white pear, white raspberry, creme de coconut, pink rose petals, and velvet musk, and comes in a sweet-yet-saucy broken heart-shaped bottle. The fragrance retails for $42.00 for 1oz. exclusively at Ulta, who describes it as “Optimistically outspoken. Playful yet cool.” Just like Ariana herself.

Alex Rodriguez Surprised Jennifer Lopez With a Stripper-Themed Cake in Honor of 'Hustlers'

When it comes to power couples, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez are definitely up there in the rankings. The two aren’t afraid to hide their feelings for each other, either—their Instagram and Twitter feeds basically consist of sweet moments and surprises they’ve shared with each other, plus plenty of evidence of A-Rod’s Instagram husband skills. They’re so close, in fact, they even dress alike—and have done practically since they started dating. Now, things seem to be leveling up along with their relationship status: The engaged couple took a moment on Friday (September 13) to celebrate J.Lo’s latest role in the Oscar-buzzy film Hustlers, released that day—and A-Rod had the cutest surprise for his wife-to-be.

J.Lo shared a few video clips on her Instagram Stories on Friday that captured her reaction to a stripper-themed cake A-Rod surprised her with in honor of her role—highly appropriate, considering the insanely hard pole-dancing scenes she absolutely nails in the film. It’s decked out with two (decorative, not actual) dancers, a few mini $100 bills, and a very casual “Congratulations on your movie!”

The sound doesn’t play in J.Lo’s Instagram Story below, but in the original version you can hear her freaking out about the cake: “Oh my god, look at this!” she says excitedly. There’s also a personal note from A-Rod that she pans to with the camera: “Baby, congratulations on Hustlers. So proud of you! Love hustling through life with you. Love, Macho,” it reads.

The celebration doesn’t end there, though: There was also a tray of cake pops and mini cupcakes, which everyone knows is the mark of a real party.

These two—always adorable. And there might be a few more reasons to celebrate come awards season: There’s a great cast (J.Lo, as well as Constance Wu, Lili Reinhart, and Keke Palmer) in front of the camera, and Lorene Scafaria, a writer-director-producer triple threat, behind it—and critics are already loving it.

A Bride Got Dragged for Wanting to Replace Her Maid of Honor Because of Baby Weight

There have been plenty of stories about controlling brides this year—tales relayed back to forums by wedding party members and wedding guests who need a place to vent (and gather some support, or answers). Some highlights? The bride who kicked a guest of her wedding…for wearing a patterned dress she thought was too white. Or, there was the bride who fired her bridesmaid over email. Granted, weddings can be a super-stressful time, especially if the bride-to-be is carrying an outsized share of planning it, but civility is still alive in 2019! Still, we don’t usually hear from the brides themselves—that is, until one bride reportedly posted in a mom’s forum (the post is now deleted) and, according to Fox News, asked if she could fire her maid of honor because of her baby weight.

“So my friend who is my maid of honor in my wedding recently gave birth and she hasn’t lost the baby weight,” the anonymous bride started her post, according to Fox News. Apparently it had been three weeks since her friend had the baby, and “she still looks pregnant.”

It was another three weeks until the bride’s wedding, she reportedly wrote, but she wasn’t “confident” her maid of honor would lose the weight by then.

“She may not even fit her dress. I refuse to have it altered again,” she continued. “It was already altered multiple times for her and she said she’d fit into it.” The bride then asks forum users if it would be “wrong” to find another maid of honor, adding she had “someone in mind” already.

“She said she has a back up dress and I’m saying hell no to that,” the bride finished. “I’m not fat shaming but come on. My wedding is only one day and I’m not having it ruined by her or her baby weight.”

Naturally, people had a lot of thoughts about the bride’s ask.

“Does she not realize what the body goes through in order to hold another human? It takes much longer than 3 weeks…” one pointed out, according to Fox.

“This bride is an idiot. You don’t just drop postpartum weight within a few weeks of giving birth. Sometimes it takes months,” another reportedly wrote.

“What kind of shallow person is this? If your friend is a good enough friend to be your [maid of honor], then YOU ought to be a good enough friend to care more about them than how they look in a picture,” another commenter said, per Fox.

It does take months to lose the weight from pregnancy—extra pounds are part of what’s involved in creating and delivering a new life. Although it sometimes seems like celebrities are shedding points in a matter of weeks, everyone’s bodies are different, and the level of access they have to trainers, nutritionists, and doctors is quite a bit more than most of us mortals enjoy. In the meantime, a general reminder: Body-shaming new moms (or anyone else, for that matter) is never a good wedding-day look.

A Bride Asked Her Maid of Honor to Postpone Breast Implants So She Wouldn't Outshine Her at the Wedding

You’ve heard of not wearing white to a wedding so as not to upstage the bride, but what about not wearing your, ahem, assets? One maid of honor was forced to consider just that after being asked by the bride to postpone a scheduled breast enhancement surgery.

The angry MOH took to Reddit’s Bridezilla forum, first spotted by Yahoo, to vent about her experience last month.

Though she had been been looking forward to her procedure, which is set for the end of May, the woman wrote that the bride “isn’t very happy about it.”

In fact, she asked if she would consider holding off until after her September wedding. “She said she wants to be the hottest one in her wedding party, and I may overshadow her with my new boobs,” the MOH wrote.

What’s more, the bride doesn’t seem willing to compromise—at all. “I said if it bothers her so much, I will wear something not revealing and will not flash my boobs in front of everyone,” the woman explained. “She looked hurt and heartbroken, said a cold goodbye and left.”

The MOH went on to say that the bride, whom she’s been friends with since kindergarten, had also shunned another attractive friend when it came time to choose her bridal party, opting to include the groom’s sisters, whom she once referred to as “land whales,” instead. (NOT COOL.)

“She picked people she thinks are less sexy than her and somehow I ended up on this list,” the MOH surmised. “She doesn’t want me to get hotter, either. I don’t know how to feel.”

Needless to say, the comments came pouring in, with many advising the woman to go through with her plans for new breasts and ditch her so-called pal.

“Your boobs mean a LOT more for your life than the bride’s single day,” one reasoned, with another adding, “Friends come and go, great boob jobs are forever.”

Even those who admitted to relating to the bride’s desire to be the star of the show agreed that her request was not that of a true bestie. “She’s not being a friend to anyone, and clearly doesn’t respect any of you,” a commenter advised.

The ultimate verdict from the peanut gallery? “Have the surgery, quit the bridal party.”

A Hashtag in Honor of Meghan Markle's Royal Baby Is Raising Money for Great Causes

The countdown is on for the springtime arrival of Baby Sussex, a.k.a. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s first child. And while fans of the royal couple have been clocking every detail—rumored or otherwise—about the royal baby, Markle’s chic maternity style, and her incredible baby shower in New York City, they’ve also organized themselves for a great cause.

The hashtag #GlobalSussexBabyShower has been started to help raise money for some of the royals’ favorite charities—and although we maybe didn’t make Amal Clooney and Serena Williams’ guest list for the NYC party, we’re all invited to this shower.

“Proof that social media can be a positive place,” royal reporter Omid Scobie tweeted. “Charities including @themayhew @Camfed and @WellChild have been receiving donations from Duchess Meghan fans around the world who started the hashtag #GlobalSussexBabyshower to celebrate Baby Sussex’s impending arrival. Very cool??”

The online love is especially nice considering the vitriol that Markle especially has faced in comments sections and on social media. The palace has even issued stronger guidelines for commenters on their own channels, likely in response to some of the online hate.

Jo Hale

“I’ve donated to two of the #DoS charities because I’m so sick of the media onslaught which is ignoring her philanthropy. It also gives me a pleasant break from the horrors of Brexit. @themayhew @One25Charity #GlobalSussexBabyShower #MeghanMarkle,” one fan tweeted.

I also donated to the little girl who received the flowers from Meghan’s baby shower,” wrote another fan. “Sending prayers to her and her family for healing. #GlobalSussexBabyShower.”

Others chose charities close to their own hearts to benefit from the #GlobalSussexBabyShower.

Or just by spreading the word.

The hashtag has been gaining traction as people around the world make donations in honor of the yet-to-be-born royal baby—and the organizations are already expressing their gratitude. The charity, CamFed or the Campaign for Female Education tweeted: “OK all you amazing, warm-hearted & generous people: You completely floored us today when you started sending your support & donations in response to @freepeeper’s #GlobalSussexBabyShower campaign. You’ve made our year! Now we need to get some sleep. ? Know that we ❤ you. X”

As Scobie pointed out, this is exactly the kind of goodness we need on a Sunday, no? Here’s to hoping this kind-hearted magic lingers a little longer.
