A Bride Got Dragged for Wanting to Replace Her Maid of Honor Because of Baby Weight


There have been plenty of stories about controlling brides this year—tales relayed back to forums by wedding party members and wedding guests who need a place to vent (and gather some support, or answers). Some highlights? The bride who kicked a guest of her wedding…for wearing a patterned dress she thought was too white. Or, there was the bride who fired her bridesmaid over email. Granted, weddings can be a super-stressful time, especially if the bride-to-be is carrying an outsized share of planning it, but civility is still alive in 2019! Still, we don’t usually hear from the brides themselves—that is, until one bride reportedly posted in a mom’s forum (the post is now deleted) and, according to Fox News, asked if she could fire her maid of honor because of her baby weight.

“So my friend who is my maid of honor in my wedding recently gave birth and she hasn’t lost the baby weight,” the anonymous bride started her post, according to Fox News. Apparently it had been three weeks since her friend had the baby, and “she still looks pregnant.”

It was another three weeks until the bride’s wedding, she reportedly wrote, but she wasn’t “confident” her maid of honor would lose the weight by then.

“She may not even fit her dress. I refuse to have it altered again,” she continued. “It was already altered multiple times for her and she said she’d fit into it.” The bride then asks forum users if it would be “wrong” to find another maid of honor, adding she had “someone in mind” already.

“She said she has a back up dress and I’m saying hell no to that,” the bride finished. “I’m not fat shaming but come on. My wedding is only one day and I’m not having it ruined by her or her baby weight.”

Naturally, people had a lot of thoughts about the bride’s ask.

“Does she not realize what the body goes through in order to hold another human? It takes much longer than 3 weeks…” one pointed out, according to Fox.

“This bride is an idiot. You don’t just drop postpartum weight within a few weeks of giving birth. Sometimes it takes months,” another reportedly wrote.

“What kind of shallow person is this? If your friend is a good enough friend to be your [maid of honor], then YOU ought to be a good enough friend to care more about them than how they look in a picture,” another commenter said, per Fox.

It does take months to lose the weight from pregnancy—extra pounds are part of what’s involved in creating and delivering a new life. Although it sometimes seems like celebrities are shedding points in a matter of weeks, everyone’s bodies are different, and the level of access they have to trainers, nutritionists, and doctors is quite a bit more than most of us mortals enjoy. In the meantime, a general reminder: Body-shaming new moms (or anyone else, for that matter) is never a good wedding-day look.

Kylie Jenner Is Getting Dragged for How She Washes Her Face


Not that it should be too surprising by this point, but despite the mostly positive reviews, Kylie Skin is off to a rough start. In case you missed it, last week Kylie Jenner took her Kylie Cosmetics empire to the next level by dropping Kylie Skin, a line of skin care basics ranging from a foaming face wash to a vitamin C serum.

Before it even launched, the line was causing controversy with fans because one of her inaugural products is a walnut-powder scrub; there’s been hotly debated for years as to whether these products do more harm than good. (Many dermatologists warn such scrubs can cause microtears on your skin if used too aggressively.) This left many followers wondering if she even uses her own products, and some even went so far as to say it was dishonest of her to release the line given her access to exclusive derms and expensive treatments.

Now the Internet is losing it over a new video posted on Kylie Skin’s Twitter and Instagram accounts. The clip shows Jenner washing her face with her Foaming Face Wash, and then wiping her face with a fluffy white towel. At first glance it just looks like any other innocuous Get Ready With Me video, but as fans pointed out on social media, a closer look reveals a heavy amount of foundation all over the towel. Kylie Skin claims the face wash “cleanses skin by helping to remove dirt, oil, and makeup for a fresh, bright complexion,”—something our own testers liked when they tried it—but the clip doesn’t exactly make a great case for it.

The takes rolled in fast and hot, with comments ranging from jokes like “Rihanna would never have done this to us” to more accusations that Jenner doesn’t use her own products. “What’s off to me about Kylie Skin is the fact that she’s selling products she clearly doesn’t even use,” wrote one user, adding, “She washed her face for literally SECONDS and her foundation was all over the towel. If I did that my acne would be popping.”

To be fair, the video is a short clip, and many aestheticians recommend washing your face for a full 60 seconds. So perhaps she wasn’t using the product to its full potential given social media’s time limitations. That being said, people are more knowledgeable about skin care than ever, and marketers should know better. It’s not the first time a celebrity’s been called out for a suspicious tutorial, and it probably won’t be the last.

Natalie Portman Also Dragged E! News for Catt Sadler's Pay Disparity


Last month news broke that longtime E! News host Catt Sadler was leaving the network after she found out she wasn’t receiving equal pay to her male counterparts. Her absence on the red carpet at last night’s Golden Globes was palpable, and several celebrities stood in solidarity with her. “I was so shocked to hear that E! doesn’t believe in paying their female cohosts the same as their male cohosts, Debra Messing told Giuliana Rancic—as she was being interviewed on E!. “I miss Catt Sadler. We stand with her.”

Eva Longoria did the same thing: She criticized E! for its pay-disparity issue while on camera for the network. “We hope E! follows that lead with Catt, as well. We stand with you, Catt,” Longoria said. Both Sarah Jessica Parker and Laura Dern made pointed remarks about the controversy, as well.

But one callout that hasn’t received a lot of notice was Natalie Portman’s. The Annihilation actress also took E! News to task over Sadler’s pay inequality while talking to Ryan Seacrest. “We know that Catt Sadler—your network has had fights with her pay discrepancy with men. It’s time for change,” she said. And right before she finished her interview, Portman added, “We stand with Catt.”

Sadler gave a statement to People magazine earlier today, thanking the women who supported her during last night’s Globes. “I am immensely grateful for the outpouring of support today,” she said. “Thank you to Amy, Debra, Eva, Brie, Julianne, and so many more women using their voices on behalf of us all. Time’s Up.”

Melania Trump Got Dragged For Her Christmas Selfie


Due to the fact that she’s married to our current president, Melania Trump is often the center of controversy—some of it serious, some of it silly. Her latest controversy (if you can call it that) might just blow all the others out of the water, however, as it has to do with a selfie. Yep, a selfie—and a selfie taken on Christmas, at that.

In the photo, the First Lady can be seen looking… amused, I guess?… with raised eyebrows, a rehearsed expression, and a Snapchat filter. Most of us would consider it a throwaway selfie and not put much stock in it, but it’s the Internet we’re dealing with, so folks reacted. Some compared her to the previous FLOTUS, while other commenters pointed out the irony of someone from the Trump family wishing folks a Merry Christmas. Some said it showed a lack of class, while others thought it looked like a Tinder profile pic.

Though we’re used to seeing the FLOTUS’s face, we actually rarely see her face in a selfie, as pointed out by The Cut. In fact, her Christmas selfie was the first selfie in a year, and it’s a heavily edited one, at that. She also went as far as to caption the photo with the hashtag “Merry Christmas,” a phrase that her own husband has a long, strange history with. In fact, just this year, he tweeted, “People are proud to be saying Merry Christmas again. I am proud to have led the charge against the assault of our cherished and beautiful phrase. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!”

Naturally, people weren’t exactly feeling jolly feelings upon seeing the photo. Try as she might, with the Snapchat filter that included a Santa hat, conjured-up reindeers, and a few sprinklings of snow, the First Lady couldn’t get the country to feel quite as festive as she apparently was in the snap.
