Bride Refuses to Hire Gay Makeup Artist — See the Viral Screenshots

“I still have more questions. How can you be a latina woman and be gay? You do know being gay is a sin correct,” the bride says, making assumptions about Cardenas’s beliefs. “I will pray for you my friend. I’m sorry that you’ve chosen a path that’s going to send you straight to hell. I think you do beautiful makeup but i just can’t have someone who’s gay being apart of my special day. The wedding is in a church and i don’t want you walking into my church.”

As if that weren’t bad enough, the bride ignorantly suggests that if Cardenas suddenly decides to stop being a lesbian, she’ll hire her, saying, “If you at any chance change your mind about being gay let me know please so i can book you.”

Kristian Cardenas

Words like this would be hurtful to anyone who doesn’t identify as straight, but they were especially painful to Cardenas, who told me she had only just recently come out. “I wanted to post [this conversation] for my friends and family because about a month and a half ago, I came out to everyone on social media. I was tired of hiding who I was. And when I had such a positive reaction to me sharing who I was I felt like everyone just needed a little taste of my reality,” she tells Allure, explaining that she’s struggled with facing acceptance in her small Texas town.

The response she’s gotten to the screenshots has been heartening — sympathy, support, love, and a new understanding. “So many friends and family or just strangers had no idea that people could actually be like this. I wanted to share to bring some light on the subject because it’s from someone they know and love,” Cardenas tells Allure. “I’ve been getting such a positive response, so much love and support, whether it be from potential clients, strangers, or someone who’s struggling with their own story. Of course, I have my fair share of awful things still being said to me. I have to brush that aside and focus on the positive.”

In fact, Cardenas tells Allure that even the bride-to-be has reached out after the conversation went viral. “She apologized, but told me it was her wedding and her choice to choose who she wanted doing makeup and hair, and that her beliefs shouldn’t have hurt my feelings,” Cardenas explains. And then, displaying the kind of tolerance Cardenas herself deserves, she says, “I understand where she’s coming from. I just wish she would have been a little nicer about it.”

A Bride Got Dragged for Wanting to Replace Her Maid of Honor Because of Baby Weight

There have been plenty of stories about controlling brides this year—tales relayed back to forums by wedding party members and wedding guests who need a place to vent (and gather some support, or answers). Some highlights? The bride who kicked a guest of her wedding…for wearing a patterned dress she thought was too white. Or, there was the bride who fired her bridesmaid over email. Granted, weddings can be a super-stressful time, especially if the bride-to-be is carrying an outsized share of planning it, but civility is still alive in 2019! Still, we don’t usually hear from the brides themselves—that is, until one bride reportedly posted in a mom’s forum (the post is now deleted) and, according to Fox News, asked if she could fire her maid of honor because of her baby weight.

“So my friend who is my maid of honor in my wedding recently gave birth and she hasn’t lost the baby weight,” the anonymous bride started her post, according to Fox News. Apparently it had been three weeks since her friend had the baby, and “she still looks pregnant.”

It was another three weeks until the bride’s wedding, she reportedly wrote, but she wasn’t “confident” her maid of honor would lose the weight by then.

“She may not even fit her dress. I refuse to have it altered again,” she continued. “It was already altered multiple times for her and she said she’d fit into it.” The bride then asks forum users if it would be “wrong” to find another maid of honor, adding she had “someone in mind” already.

“She said she has a back up dress and I’m saying hell no to that,” the bride finished. “I’m not fat shaming but come on. My wedding is only one day and I’m not having it ruined by her or her baby weight.”

Naturally, people had a lot of thoughts about the bride’s ask.

“Does she not realize what the body goes through in order to hold another human? It takes much longer than 3 weeks…” one pointed out, according to Fox.

“This bride is an idiot. You don’t just drop postpartum weight within a few weeks of giving birth. Sometimes it takes months,” another reportedly wrote.

“What kind of shallow person is this? If your friend is a good enough friend to be your [maid of honor], then YOU ought to be a good enough friend to care more about them than how they look in a picture,” another commenter said, per Fox.

It does take months to lose the weight from pregnancy—extra pounds are part of what’s involved in creating and delivering a new life. Although it sometimes seems like celebrities are shedding points in a matter of weeks, everyone’s bodies are different, and the level of access they have to trainers, nutritionists, and doctors is quite a bit more than most of us mortals enjoy. In the meantime, a general reminder: Body-shaming new moms (or anyone else, for that matter) is never a good wedding-day look.

A Bride Asked Her Maid of Honor to Postpone Breast Implants So She Wouldn't Outshine Her at the Wedding

You’ve heard of not wearing white to a wedding so as not to upstage the bride, but what about not wearing your, ahem, assets? One maid of honor was forced to consider just that after being asked by the bride to postpone a scheduled breast enhancement surgery.

The angry MOH took to Reddit’s Bridezilla forum, first spotted by Yahoo, to vent about her experience last month.

Though she had been been looking forward to her procedure, which is set for the end of May, the woman wrote that the bride “isn’t very happy about it.”

In fact, she asked if she would consider holding off until after her September wedding. “She said she wants to be the hottest one in her wedding party, and I may overshadow her with my new boobs,” the MOH wrote.

What’s more, the bride doesn’t seem willing to compromise—at all. “I said if it bothers her so much, I will wear something not revealing and will not flash my boobs in front of everyone,” the woman explained. “She looked hurt and heartbroken, said a cold goodbye and left.”

The MOH went on to say that the bride, whom she’s been friends with since kindergarten, had also shunned another attractive friend when it came time to choose her bridal party, opting to include the groom’s sisters, whom she once referred to as “land whales,” instead. (NOT COOL.)

“She picked people she thinks are less sexy than her and somehow I ended up on this list,” the MOH surmised. “She doesn’t want me to get hotter, either. I don’t know how to feel.”

Needless to say, the comments came pouring in, with many advising the woman to go through with her plans for new breasts and ditch her so-called pal.

“Your boobs mean a LOT more for your life than the bride’s single day,” one reasoned, with another adding, “Friends come and go, great boob jobs are forever.”

Even those who admitted to relating to the bride’s desire to be the star of the show agreed that her request was not that of a true bestie. “She’s not being a friend to anyone, and clearly doesn’t respect any of you,” a commenter advised.

The ultimate verdict from the peanut gallery? “Have the surgery, quit the bridal party.”

This Bridesmaid Says the Bride Suggested She Get an Abortion So Her Dress Fit Better

We’ve heard some wild tales of bad behavior by brides over the years, but this latest story may just be the most out-there (and frankly unbelievable) yet.

The Sun first reported the story, which was originally posted in a Facebook group about wedding shaming. In the post, a bridesmaid claims that her then-best friend (the bride whom she calls “Kate”) did not take the news of the bridesmaid’s pregnancy well—at all.

“About a year before the wedding, I found out I was pregnant. I was always told I couldn’t have kids and so obviously my daughter was not planned but I was over the moon,” she says, per The Sun. “So I told Kate, expecting excitement, right? Nope. She immediately told me that I was going to be so stressed trying to get my bridesmaid dress fitting on my own since I’d have to do it after everyone already had theirs (I was due in April, wedding was in June).”

The bridesmaid continued: “She reminded me that it was a kid free wedding, and then after thoroughly explaining how difficult her wedding would be for me, she said (verbatim) ‘so don’t you think it might be better for you to have an abortion?’ I had to read that one a few times.”

Wow. Just wow.

“I asked if she seriously just suggested I get an abortion to make her wedding go more smoothly?” she wrote. “She told me I was ruining my life and then called her mom to tell me to have an abortion … So (obviously) I didn’t speak to her again, got a wedding invite and never sent the RSVP back, and her eight months pregnant future SIL took my place as bridesmaid, she ended up with dresses that easily would’ve accommodated my postpartum body.”

We would agree that ending this relationship is for the best. And can someone tell this bride there are plenty of ways to throw a child-free wedding that don’t involve telling your bridesmaid what to do with her body?

This Bride Went Off on Her Bridesmaid for Getting a Pixie Cut Before Her Big Day

We get it, it’s your wedding day. You’ve planned it, you’ve paid for it, and almost everything should be to your liking (operative word almost). One thing you might not have control over is what your bridesmaids decide to do to their appearance before your wedding—like getting a haircut. And one bride just learned that wedding truth the hard way.

A soon-to-be bridesmaid asked Reddit’s Am I the A**hole thread if she was in the wrong for cutting her long hair before her sister-in-law’s wedding. “I’ve been growing my hair for years and got tired of it. Yesterday, I went from hair down past my butt and had it cut into a short cut, like a pixie,” the original poster wrote.

She even went on to share the sweet reason why she decided to cut it all off. “I cut so much of it because I donated to an organization called Wigs for Kids; they make wigs for free for children with cancer and alopecia,” she explained. “Overall, I donated 48 inches of hair. I absolutely love it, the hair stylist said it was perfect for my face shape, my fiancé loves it, it’s been such a confidence booster.”

Earlier in the post, the bridesmaid explained that her sister-in-law is getting married in June and that she is planning a big wedding. She admitted that the bride has been very kind, but rightfully picky—until this point.

“I posted a picture on Instagram today along with a picture of the bundles of hair I sent off to donate,” she wrote. “I later get a text from her saying I should have asked before I cut all that hair off as she doesn’t think it’ll match her extremely feminine designs/decorations, I’m in her wedding party and now will stand out from her and the other girls (they all have long hair too), and wishes I had waited just a month to cut it.”

The bridesmaid, who was well within her right to cut her own hair, was truly stuck on how to respond. She explained in her now-viral post it was the first wedding she would be in and didn’t know if this sort of thing was normal. “Should I have asked her before making such a dramatic physical appearance change?” she posed to the group.

“It’s your hair and you did an amazing thing with it, don’t be made to feel bad for it,” one commenter responded.

Another sent a PSA to brides everywhere about what really matters when it comes to picking your bridesmaids: “I don’t understand the bridezilla impulse to try to control your wedding party’s appearance, but you should be asking people to be in the wedding party because they’re important to you, not because they’re aesthetically pleasing.” Preach.

While most of the 300-plus comments agreed that the bridesmaid was not in the wrong, a few sympathized with where the bride was coming from. “I don’t think you did anything wrong, and it’s your body, your choice, but I can understand her feelings too,” someone wrote. “As you said it’s a big wedding, and she is under pressure and probably have a lot of expectations. I totally understand that it’s a pretty ridiculous thing to be pissed off by, but if she had a really precise view of what she wanted, she might feel betrayed, especially if her wedding is next month.”

Ultimately the bride and bridesmaid worked it out. The bridesmaid made an update to her original post with the good news.

A Bride Told Her Pregnant Bridesmaid to Stop 'Showing Off' Her Belly in Photos

A viral Reddit “Am I the A**shole” thread strikes again with a tale of a bride who felt wronged by one of her bridesmaids.

This time, the bride in question had complaints about a bridesmaid she calls “Kate” who was around seven months pregnant during the festivities. “Kate’s belly was easily accommodated into the dress style because it had quite a flowy skirt with a fitted bust,” she wrote in the thread as spotted by Insider. So all seems well, at first glance. But then came time for the post-ceremony, pre-reception photos.

“In one of the first photos I noticed Kate was deliberately holding her belly so it was really obvious in the fabric of her dress (think basically every maternity shoot photo ever taken),” the bride explained. “I asked her to stop holding her hands to show off her belly and to just pose like everyone else. I had to remind her a few more times before we’d finished taking the wedding party photos.” Upon her return from her honeymoon, the bride began to worry that Kate was upset with her. “Today another of my bridesmaids confirmed that Kate is pissed at me because I was ‘trying to make her look fat, not pregnant’ during the photos,” she added. “Now I’m annoyed because I paid a lot of money for a wedding photo shoot, not maternity pics.”

Somewhat surprisingly (considering pregnant women cannot control the size or shape of their stomachs), responders were split on the issue. “There is absolutely no reason someone should be deliberately showing off their ‘baby bump’ to take away from the bride in a photo,” one commenter replied. “If she didn’t feel comfortable in the dress, she could have opted out of being in the wedding. But making the photo shoot about herself and demonstrating her pregnant belly is not acceptable in a wedding photo. When you look back at the photos, you want to remember the happy times between you guys, not be distracted by her ‘on display’ baby bump.”

Nothing suggests she was “trying to take over [the] wedding photos,” wrote another. “From what OP [original poster] says, the friend wasn’t doing anything besides holding her belly, which is actually a normal standing position for pregnant people, not something reserved for maternity photography. Is it attention seeking to be visibly pregnant at someone else’s wedding? Because it seems like the bride (and a lot of commenters) are treating this girl like she maliciously planned to take over the wedding by not hiding her pregnancy, which is insane to me.”

Others (rightly) noted that the bridesmaid may have been self-conscious or physically uncomfortable in the moment—not actually a terrible friend trying to sabotage the photos or make herself the star.

“Posing like that is not trying to make it into a maternity shoot, unless she pulled the camera person aside and asked to take pictures of herself with her bump. She was just trying to feel halfway decent about herself in the pictures. It sucks being pregnant,” wrote another commenter. “I agree that if you needed everyone to do the same pose, she should have followed suit, but don’t assume that she was trying to make it all about her. She was probably just trying to make it through the photoshoot without crying.”

Our best guess is the photos turned out just fine, regardless of the drama.
