Lindsay Lohan Wants to Do a Mean Girls Sequel and That's Honestly So Fetch

You’re not alone, Mean Girls fans (or should we say Plastics?) Lindsay Lohan has also been waiting patiently for Mean Girls 2.

Earlier this week, fresh off her hosting duties for Australia’s The Masked Singer, Lohan sat down for an interview on David Spade’s talk show, Lights Out with David Spade. It was there that she brought fans everywhere a little bit of joy by telling Spade she’s absolutely down to star in a Mean Girls sequel.

“I think I was hanging onto [Mean Girls] for a really long idea,” Lohan told Spade on April 14. “I wanted to come back with a Mean Girls 2 with the same cast, work with Tina [Fey], and the whole crew again, and [director] Mark Waters. That was really what I wanted; I was excited to do that. But that’s all in their hands, really.”

We’re sure we don’t have to explain this to you, but we’ll take any opportunity to rave about Mean Girls: Since its debut in 2004, Mean Girls has become an early-aughts classic. Not only did it gross $129 million at the box office, but it also spawned a hit Broadway musical. There’s practically an entire Ariana Grande music video devoted to the movie and October 3rd has become, like, an actual holiday at this point.

However, while Lohan’s enthusiasm is exciting for fans, it’s important to note that this isn’t the first time a sequel has come up only to be dismissed by the film’s creators. No response has been made yet, but back in 2018, Tina Fey, who wrote the movie, told Entertainment Tonight that a sequel with the same cast is unlikely as it would cost far too much now that the characters are all major stars. “Quotes are all too high now,” she joked.

There is one other glimmer of hope, though. Fey has announced her plans to adapt the Broadway musical version of Mean Girls to the big screen. It will not act as a sequel, but rather a music-filled retelling. Honestly, we’ll take what we can get.

Still, isn’t quarantine the perfect time for Fey and Lohan to come together over Zoom and start coming up with a plan for that sequel? Maybe they can even get Rachel McAdams and Amanda Seyfried on the call. Just a suggestion.

‘Call Me By Your Name’ Sequel: Everything We Know So Far — Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer Reportedly Signed On

The plot. We don’t know a lot about the full story yet, but FYI, Call Me By Your Name ended (spoiler alert) with Oliver making a heartbreaking call to Elio and telling him he’s engaged to be married to a woman.

There is a second novel entitled Find Me, which takes place 10 years after the novel. However, before the novel came out, Hammer had told IndieWire that Guadagnino had already pitched a sequel script to him. “Dude, he broke down the whole script for us,” Hammer said back in 2018. “I mean, it’s not a finished script, but he’s got all the ideas for it. Luca’s all gung-ho about it, and by the way, if Luca’s doing it, I think we’re all gung-ho about it.”

©Sony Pictures/Everett Collection / Everett Collection

The release date. No one knows quite yet when the sequel might arrive—not even Guadagnino, who said that production has been put on hold because of the coronavirus pandemic. “Before coronavirus, I made a trip to the United States to meet a screenwriter I love very much, whose name I don’t want to say, to talk about the second part. Unfortunately, we had to put it on hold,” he said.

Honestly, we’ll wait however long we have to for this one. We’ve missed Elio and Oliver so much!

‘P.S. I Love You,’ Your Favorite Tearjerker, Is Getting a Sequel

Grab your tissues, people, because P.S. I Love You is getting a sequel.

Variety reports that Alcon Entertainment has secured the rights to author Cecelia Ahern’s sequel to the book P.S. I Love You, titled Postscript. by . Details about the movie sequel aren’t known right now—just that it’s happening.

If you’re unfamiliar with the 2007 movie P.S. I Love You, it centers on a woman, Holly (Hilary Swank), who is stricken with grief following the death of her husband, Gerry (Gerard Butler). However, because he was diagnosed with an illness prior to passing, Gerry prepared for his wife’s grief and wrote her a series of letters that are sent to her after he dies—one a year, all ending with “P.S., I love you.”

Per Variety, Postscript picks up seven years later, when Holly agrees to tell her story on her sister’s podcast. It’s unclear if Swank and Butler will return to their roles, but here’s hoping. Either way, I’m prepared to cry.

“For me, after reading the script I was reminded of what life is about,” Swank told Indie London about what originally attracted her to P.S. I Love You. “It was a reminder that you just want to hold those ones that you love dear because you don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow. It’s such a great love story and I think that we can all relate to that—finding love and losing love…. If it’s not through death, even a breakup can sometimes feel like a death. There were many things that I could relate to and a lot of laughter in between.”

Of the movie’s more emotional scenes, Swank told Indie London, “The challenge was the emotional side of it. To really find the humour within the reality of the aftermath of what’s happened, while at the same time being honest to the full range of emotions associated with grief.”

A date hasn’t been set for the film adaptation of Postscript, nor do we know if that will be the title. We’ll keep you posted on all fronts.

Wonder Woman 1984: Here’s Everything We Know About the Sequel

Here’s everything else we know so far:

1. Wonder Woman is coming to the United States. “The story will take place in the U.S., which I think is right,” Jenkins told Entertainment Weekly. “She’s Wonder Woman. She’s got to come to America. It’s time.”

2. It will take place in the 1980s, and Diana will fight the Soviet Union in the Cold War. According to The Wrap. The title of the sequel gives us the exact year: Wonder Woman 1984.

3. Chris Pine is somehow in the film. His character, Steve Trevor, sacrificed himself in the first film and appeared to die. However, he will come back—we just don’t know how yet. “I promise you it’s not a gimmick,” Jenkins said, per the New York Times. “He’s integral to the story.”

4. Kristen Wiig will play Cheetah, Wonder Woman’s nemesis. Bless up.

5. It looks like Wonder Woman will be keeping her iconic costume. It’s truly timeless.

6. The release date is June 5, 2020. Sorry, but we still have a while to wait. That being said, I’ve already started a countdown.

7. The first trailer looks promising. On December 8, Jenkins introduced the first trailer for the film at CCXP, a Comic-Con Experience convention in Brazil. “We wanted to bring Wonder Woman into the modern world,” she said, according to the New York Times. If you’ve always dreamed of watching Wonder Woman doing battle in an ’80s mall, then this trailer is going to please you greatly.

We also get to see the return of Diana’s boyfriend Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) and the introduction of the villainous Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal) and Kristen Wiig’s character, Barbara Minerva, who appears to start out as a friend of our heroine, but eventually becomes the evil Cheetah.

Honestly, it looks amazing. Watch for yourself below.

Netflix's The Knight Before Christmas Could Get a Sequel

The Knight Before Christmas is probably the most anticipated film in Netflix‘s holiday movie arsenal, and it finally dropped today. If you already watched the Vanessa Hudgens-led rom-com, then you probably saw the end-credits scene in which Sir Cole’s brother, Geoffrey (played by Harry Jarvis), is approached by the same witch who transported Cole from 1334 to the present day. So does this mean we’re getting a
sequel? Well, the film’s director, Monika Mitchell, isn’t ruling it out.

If you haven’t seen the movie, though, here’s a quick recap: A science teacher, Brooke (Hudgens), meets a medieval knight named Sir Cole (Josh Whitehouse), who a witch has magically transported from medieval times to 2019. Flirty banter and baking ensue, and eventually they fall in love. During the credits, we see one last scene of the witch talking to Geoffrey while holding a shining medallion. This clearly means The Second Knight Before Christmas is coming, right?

[embedded content]

Well, maybe. “Of course I can see a sequel,” Mitchell tells Glamour. “I think Harry Jarvis is definitely involved because the [witch] is there to present him with yet another medallion. We don’t know who’s coming back through time. We don’t know if he’s gonna go visit his brother. We don’t know if Josh and Vanessa would come back and help him out. Maybe some other young lady comes back through time. We’ll have to see what the audience responds to.”

Audience, this is your cue: Start responding and get this sequel started. From Mitchell’s quote, a second movie probably wouldn’t focus on Brooke and Sir Cole again, but it could offer an update on where they are. For now, Hudgens is busy making a sequel to The Princess Switch, but fingers crossed both she and these knights in shining armor are down for some more time-traveling magic.

The Knight Before Christmas is now streaming on Netflix.

Vanessa Hudgens on Romantic Comedies, The Knight Before Christmas, and The Princess Switch Sequel

By the pop-culture powers vested in us, we’re crowning Vanessa Hudgens the new queen of the rom-com. You probably first got to know her as Gabriella in the High School Musical trilogy, but Hudgens has since transformed her career with a wild turn in Spring Breakers, an action-packed, blood-soaked role in Machete Kills, and the star of non-high-school musicals Grease and RENT. But it’s her recent turns in rom-coms that seem to have connected the most with fans, and for good reason. She held her own against Jennifer Lopez in last year’s Second Act. And her memorable turns in Netflix original movies The Princess Switch and The Knight Before Christmas, which premieres today, stand out from the usual dime-a-dozen holiday movies that flood the market this time of year.

Both movies have also allowed Hudgens to show a balance humor, heart, empathy, and chemistry with her co-stars that keeps even the most far-fetched plot-lines and twists captivating. The Princess Switch proved to be so popular, in fact, that a sequel is in the works, with Hudgens on board as a producer. Movies like these are often written off as fluff, but Hudgens is here to change that. She says she’s not looking to reinvent the wheel—just elevate it, and have fun in the process.

Below, we talk with Hudgens about that, how she feels about her legacy being split between her High School Musical past and Netflix rom-com present, and more. Read on.

Glamour: We’ve crowned you the new queen of the Christmas romantic comedy, and—

Vanessa Hudgens: [Cheers] I love that! Thank you. What an honor.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank?

I would like to thank Netflix for making us all believe in the magic of the Christmas spirit and J.Lo for being such a staple in my romantic comedy viewing experience.

Did you get any advice from her during Second Act that you applied to your rom-coms?

She’s just her. She lives behind the camera and in front of it honestly and truthfully. I think that’s what so captivating about her. Just spending time with her as an individual and seeing the way that she lives her life was really wonderful and educational.

What’s your favorite J.Lo rom-com and your favorite scene?

The Wedding Planner. My mind instantly goes to her and Matthew McConaughey sitting on a log and then they danced because there’s music and it’s sad music and it’s really beautiful.
