Ryan Reynolds Trolled That Conversational Peloton Ad and the Internet Has Thoughts

Ryan Reynolds loves a good Internet troll—just ask his wife Blake Lively—so it should probably come as no surprise that he wasted no time weighing in on that controversial Peloton ad that took over social media last week. In a new commercial for his Aviation American Gin brand, Reynolds recruited the wide-eyed Peloton wife (actress Monica Ruiz) and gave her a script that implies she finally escaped her exercise bike, and perhaps, the husband who gave it to her.

Just to quickly recap: The Peloton ad—which shows a woman receiving a Peloton bike from her husband for Christmas, then tracking her progress over the year by vlogging her rides—touched a nerve with millions of people. Critics called it everything from “sexist” to “body shaming,” while others joked that the woman’s eyes were practically screaming “Get me out of here!” It seems like Reynolds took the latter idea and ran with it, because his ad involves the woman sitting at a bar, looking completely dazed and exhausted, while having a drink with her friends. “This gin is really smooth,” is all she says before her pals chime in with, “We can get you another one, if you’d like” and “You’re safe here.” (Fun fact: One of the friends is Mercedes from cycle two of America’s Next Top Model.)

The whole thing is subtle and the only obvious dig on the ad is when one of the woman’s friends says off-camera, “You look great, by the way!” But Reynolds did make sure we got the joke on his Instagram, where he posted the ad with the caption, “Exercise bike not included.”

For the most part, people laughed about Reynolds extending the Peloton wife saga.

The Peloton Wife actress also shared a message that shows the whole thing was meant in tongue-in-cheek—and that she was ready to brush off the controversy over the original commercial. “So much fun with these girls. Let’s make light of this!! Cheers!!” she wrote.

Ruiz also gave a statement to CNN saying that despite the backlash to the Peloton ad, she’s glad she got the gig. “I was happy to accept a job opportunity earlier this year from Peloton and the team was lovely to work with,” she said. “Although I’m an actress, I am not quite comfortable being in spotlight and I’m terrible on social media. So to say I was shocked and overwhelmed by the attention this week (especially the negative) is an understatement.” That said, getting the call from Reynolds certainly helped. “When Ryan and his production team called about Aviation Gin, they helped me find some humor in the situation,” she said.

But really, who wouldn’t want a call from him? No offense, Blake.

Scarlett Johansson Opens Up About Her Marriage to Ryan Reynolds

Scarlett Johansson is sharing the lessons she’s learned from her romantic past just in time for the release of her marriage-themed movie, The Marriage Story.

In a new interview with Vanity Fair, the Marvel actress opened up about her decade-old romance with Ryan Reynolds, explaining to the magazine she wasn’t prepared for what marriage was really all about.

“…the first time I got married I was 23 years old,” Johansson said. “I didn’t really have an understanding of marriage.” She added, “Maybe I kind of romanticized it, I think, in a way.”

It’s almost easy to forget that these two were ever even an item, much less married, considering they are now both happily with other partners. Reynolds went on to marry Blake Lively, whom he shares three children with. And Johansson recently got engaged to Saturday Night Live star Colin Jost.

And it doesn’t appear as though Johansson has any ill will toward her ex. Instead, she simply looks back on that time of her life as a growth period.

“It’s a different part of my life now,” she said. “I feel like I’m in a place in my life, I feel I’m able to make more active choices. I’m more present, I think, than I’ve been before.”

Johansson also isn’t jaded about the institution of marriage despite being divorced twice. (She was also married to French Journalist Romain Dauria. The two share a daughter.) As she noted to the magazine, she’s looking forward to all the things building a new family has to offer.

“The idea of building a family, making a family, and having that work, I like that idea,” Johansson said. “I think that would be wonderful. I’ve always wanted that. I wanted that also in my marriage to my daughter’s father as well. It just wasn’t the right person. But I like that idea.”

Though she rarely speaks about her relationship, Johansson did offer up this tidbit about Jost in an October interview: “It was surprising, he’s got a lot behind that news desk he’s hiding,” she said. “He’s very charming and very thoughtful and romantic.”

Ryan Reynolds Took a Work Hiatus to Be With Blake Lively After She Gave Birth This Summer

News broke over the weekend that Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds welcomed their third child about two months ago. The couple confirmed they were expecting back in May, when Lively attended the premiere of Reynolds’s movie, Pokémon Detective Pikachu, in a form-fitting yellow dress. Now, details about the newborn are slowly trickling out—including something Reynolds did shortly after Lively gave birth.

According to Us Weekly, Reynolds took a brief work hiatus to be with Lively post-delivery. “Ryan left the set he was working [on] for about eight days,” a source tells the outlet.

Us reports that Lively and Reynolds’ new baby is about two months old, and that their decision to keep the birth private was deliberate. “They do everything they can to make sure [the kids] have a normal upbringing,” an insider says.

This aligns with quotes Blake Lively has said in the past about her and Ryan Reynolds wanting to give their children relatively quiet home lives. “Ryan had a nice, normal upbringing, and we want our kids to have the same normal life that we had. We don’t ever want to rob them of what we had, because we’d feel really selfish,” she told Marie Claire in 2016.

She echoed similar sentiments in her September 2017 cover story for Glamour. “I admire people who find that what fulfills them is their art or their work, but what fulfills both me and my husband is our family,” she said. “Knowing that, everything else comes second. We’ve each given up stuff we loved in order to not work at the same time. I’m fortunate to be in a place now where I get to find the material—a book or script—early and develop it. So I know ahead of time that I’m going to be working on this job at this time. And we can plan around it.”

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds Reportedly Welcomed Their Third Child Two Months Ago

Congratulations are in order for Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds! The couple has welcomed their third child together — but according to Us Weekly‘s sources, it happened almost two month ago.

Few other details, including the baby’s name or sex, have been revealed — and considering how tight-lipped the parents typically are about their relationship and kids, don’t expect them to spill the beans anytime soon.

Lively’s pregnancy announcement also came as a shock to fans. In May, the actress stepped out at her husband’s movie premiere for Pokémon: Detective Pikachu sporting a baby bump. She confirmed the pregnancy news with a cheeky Instagram post, captioning a carousel of photos of her and Reynolds “PokeMOM…. Out now.”

While neither Lively nor Reynolds have personally confirmed the arrival of their newest little one, Reynolds and Lively were spotted on a dinner date at NYC’s Take Room on Friday — the same day reports just happened to break of their baby news. The actor even shared a selfie from their night out (perhaps that was his way of commenting on the baby news?) in which a blurry Blake wears a black pinstriped top and gold necklace and looks unprepared for the pic, as her husband smiles into the camera. Lively reposted the pic shouting out jewelry brand Marla Aaron and adding a hot dog emoji to boot.

The couple already share two daughters, 4-year-old James and 3-year-old Inez. Reynolds waited for about three months after James’s birth to reveal her name on the Today Show. And Us Weekly only confirmed news that they had welcomed Ines to the family in December 2016, three months after she was born in September 2016.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds Have a Long, Hilarious History of Trolling Each Other

Instagram

February 2018: The V-Day shenanigans continued with this “glue” cake Reynolds made for Lively. It looks delicious.

April 2018: Two months later Lively decided to praise the back of her head in a photo with Reynolds at the center. I’d 10/10 do the same if my braid looked this good.

April 2018: Ryan Reynolds Uses Trolling to Shut Down Break-Up Rumors, Part 1

April 2018: Ryan Reynolds Uses Trolling to Shut Down Break-Up Rumors, Part 2

May 2018: The trailer for Lively’s new film A Simple Favor drops. It’s confusing, so Reynolds tweets Lively and asks what the hell’s going on. Instead of giving an answer, she trolls, naturally.

May 2018: “Is the extra distance between you supposed to convince me that you DON’T love him more than me?? Nice try,” Lively commented on this photo of Hugh Jackman and Reynolds. What Lively doesn’t know is Jackman and Reynolds have the space between them so I can pop in the middle.

June 2018: In perhaps their funniest case of trolling yet, Lively and Reynolds have a back-and-forth about his fictional twin brother Gordon. I want a husband to be witty with on Instagram! Until that time comes, though, at least I have these two.

June 2018: Lively calls her Simple Favor costar Anna Kendrick the “hotter, female(r)” version of her husband, and jokes about cheating on him. Reynolds replies in good, hilarious spirits.

August 2019: In honor of Lively’s birthday, Reynolds pulled off a master troll by posting a series of unflattering photos of the b-day girl. “Happy Birthday, @blakelively,” he wrote alongside images that show her blinking, making funny faces, and looking generally unprepared.

September 2019: Lively strikes back by sharing a hilarious screenshot from her Instagram photo app of Reynolds in a goofy-looking hat shaped like a chicken. Her image appears next to it, looking grave and unamused. She published it on her Instagram Stories.

Ryan Reynolds Just Trolled Blake Lively With Unflattering Photos for Her Birthday

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are known for their delightful mutual trolling on social media, with nary a birthday or anniversary between them going unnoticed without a little good-natured fun flung one direction or the other. It’s been a while, however, since we had a good birthday trolling: On Reynolds’ big day last year, Lively used the occasion to encourage followers to go vote in the midterm elections instead. So suffice it to say we were pretty excited when we realized that today, Sunday, August 24, was Lively’s 32nd birthday. And yes, Reynolds had delivered.

The Deadpool star commemorated his wife’s birthday by posting a series of unflattering photos to her on his ‘gram. We’re talking half-closed eyes, motion blurs, unfocused pics, and half-out-of-frame shots. (The kind of photos everyone takes!) The pictures are, apparently, worth 10,000 words, because Reynolds only used three in his caption: “Happy Birthday, @blakelively.”

Deadpool‘s creator, Rob Liefeld, said what we were all thinking: “There are no bad pictures of @blakelively and happy ???,” he commented. Gigi Hadid also offered her birthday greetings with a “‼️❤️‼️”

Reynolds also shared recently what the greatest present Lively had ever given him was: an Easter egg-packed, semi-biographical painting of a young boy delivering newspapers (Reynolds’ own first job).

We’re sure Reynolds has something equally as special in store for Lively’s birthday—but it seems like other celebrities are getting in on this unflattering-pic trolling game too. Karl Cook, husband of Big Bang Theory‘s Kaley Cuoco, posted a pic of Cuoco to mark their anniversary on Saturday.
