Brad Pitt Made a Marriage Joke at the SAGs—and Jennifer Aniston's Reaction Was Priceless

Another Brad Pitt-Jennifer Aniston moment happened during awards season that’s sure to have the entire internet talking. At the Screen Actors Guild Awards on January 19, Pitt made a joke about marriage during his acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actor—and, of course, they panned right to Aniston’s face.

Pitt quipped that playing a character “who gets high, takes his shift off and doesn’t get on with his wife” was a stretch. Everyone laughed, including Aniston, who also smiled and looked up at Pitt with seemingly good vibes only.

Watch the clip for yourself, below:

Here’s another reaction shot:

Something similar happened at the 2020 Golden Globes. During Pitt’s acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actor he cracked, “I wanted to bring my mom, but I couldn’t because any woman I stand next to they say I’m dating,” and cameras caught Aniston’s reaction to that:

Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston have had nothing but nice things to say when asked about each other during interviews. At the Globes, Entertainment Tonight talked to Pitt about potentially running into Aniston at the show, and he said, “I’ll run into Jen. She’s a good friend. The second most important reunion of her year.”

According to E! News, the two actors had a friendly but brief interaction at a Globes after-party. “They said hello very quickly,” a source said. “Jen arrived after Brad. It was brief, but [they] were very cordial and friendly and seemed happy to be there. They approached each other once they saw each other inside and looked happy as they started to hug and say hello. Jen whispered something to Brad, but it wasn’t in an affectionate way. They both didn’t seem like they wanted to make a big deal about being together in the same room although it was a private party. They were trying to be low-key. Brad left shortly after and didn’t stay at the party long.”

It Sure Looks Like Miley Cyrus Made a Joke About Her Short Marriage to Liam Hemsworth

The internet broke over the summer when Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth announced they were separating after less than a year of marriage and 10 years of dating. Their follow-up relationships have been the subject of intense tabloid scrutiny, from Cyrus’s short-lived one with Kaitlynn Carter to her current situation with Cody Simpson. Hemsworth, meanwhile, has been linked to Dynasty actor Maddison Brown.

But even with all these updates, people are still fascinated with Hemsworth and Cyrus as a couple. Case in point: The comment Cyrus just wrote on the artist Matty Mo’s Instagram. (He’s better known for creating the art collective The Most Famous Artist.) “Getting married to @mileycyrus in 2020,” Mo wrote, to which Cyrus responded with, “It probably won’t last long. But always down to try. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”

See the comment for yourself, below.

Granted, this could be absolutely harmless—or it could be Cyrus subtly trolling herself over her short-lived marriage to Hemsworth. (They married in December 2018 and officially divorced in the fall of 2019.)

Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus haven’t made any public comments about one another recently. The last thing Hemsworth himself said was back in August. “Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward,” he wrote on Instagram. “This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false.”

Meanwhile, Cyrus took to Twitter in late August to address rumors she cheated on Hemsworth.

“I can admit to a lot of things but I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of cheating,” she said. “Liam and I have been together for a decade. I’ve said it before & it remains true, I love Liam and always will.”

Scarlett Johansson Opens Up About Her Marriage to Ryan Reynolds

Scarlett Johansson is sharing the lessons she’s learned from her romantic past just in time for the release of her marriage-themed movie, The Marriage Story.

In a new interview with Vanity Fair, the Marvel actress opened up about her decade-old romance with Ryan Reynolds, explaining to the magazine she wasn’t prepared for what marriage was really all about.

“…the first time I got married I was 23 years old,” Johansson said. “I didn’t really have an understanding of marriage.” She added, “Maybe I kind of romanticized it, I think, in a way.”

It’s almost easy to forget that these two were ever even an item, much less married, considering they are now both happily with other partners. Reynolds went on to marry Blake Lively, whom he shares three children with. And Johansson recently got engaged to Saturday Night Live star Colin Jost.

And it doesn’t appear as though Johansson has any ill will toward her ex. Instead, she simply looks back on that time of her life as a growth period.

“It’s a different part of my life now,” she said. “I feel like I’m in a place in my life, I feel I’m able to make more active choices. I’m more present, I think, than I’ve been before.”

Johansson also isn’t jaded about the institution of marriage despite being divorced twice. (She was also married to French Journalist Romain Dauria. The two share a daughter.) As she noted to the magazine, she’s looking forward to all the things building a new family has to offer.

“The idea of building a family, making a family, and having that work, I like that idea,” Johansson said. “I think that would be wonderful. I’ve always wanted that. I wanted that also in my marriage to my daughter’s father as well. It just wasn’t the right person. But I like that idea.”

Though she rarely speaks about her relationship, Johansson did offer up this tidbit about Jost in an October interview: “It was surprising, he’s got a lot behind that news desk he’s hiding,” she said. “He’s very charming and very thoughtful and romantic.”

Divorce: Your Financial Roadmap For Ending Your Marriage

She Makes Money Moves is a new podcast from Glamour and iHeartRadio. Hosted by Glamour editor in chief Samantha Barry, the podcast shares intimate, unscripted stories from women across the country along with advice from financial experts to help guide those women—and women everywhere—forward. Download a new episode every Tuesday, then visit glamour.com/money for an article like this, with more insights from that week’s expert.

Divorce is on the decline. After peaking in the 1970s and ’80s, the U.S. divorce rate has continued to dip. From 2008 to 2016 alone, it decreased 18%. But when a marriage does break up, more often than not, it was a woman’s decision. According to the American Sociological Association, women initiate nearly 70% of all divorces.

On this week’s episode of She Makes Money Moves, Barry speaks with a woman who separated from her husband in 2014. While it’s been years since the two split, they’re still legally married and thus financially bounded. To help her guest start the next chapter of her life, Barry welcomed Fidelity Life Events Experience Lead Meredith Stoddard onto the podcast. Here, Stoddard breaks down what you need to know to prepare for the divorce process.

For more on this topic, check out Fidelity’s financial guide to divorce—including a document checklist and important dos and don’ts—for additional resources.

First and foremost, protect yourself

Make sure you have access to cash and credit in your own name. You should also change your PINs and passwords immediately if there’s any chance your soon-to-be ex has access to them. Check your credit reports for unusual activity and consider having your mail sent to a P.O. box. (Of course, if your physical safety is at risk, that’s your first and only priority. Contact a local domestic violence shelter for help.)

If something seems off, financially or otherwise, trust your instincts: Document interactions in a detailed log, screenshot texts, and keep emails—both online and printouts—in a safe space. (You can also store documents in Fidelity’s secure, free storage system, FidSafe.)

Try (when possible) to take emotions out of it

To the degree that you’re able, take the emotion out of your financial conversations with your soon-to-be ex. Have a great friend you can vent to, see a therapist, or visit a support group. The average person thinks about getting divorced for two years before initiating it. With that lead time, think through how you’d like to handle financial issues, and treat them like a transaction. The more logistical the conversation can be, the better.

It’s easier to have sane conversations about finances when you’re on the same page and speaking to facts instead of feelings, so make a list to take inventory of your assets and finances. Then, think carefully about what you’ll say. It’s more constructive to use phrases like, “my wish for you is” or, “my wish is” than just to insist “the house is mine,” or, “I want the car.” Avoid “win-lose” language and be honest about what hopes and concerns you have about your financial future.

Be smart about what you go after

Don’t pay $10,000 to win a car that’s worth $5,000. Take a step back and make sure you’re not spending thousands of dollars in legal fees fighting over something that’s not even worth that much. You can’t go after assets just to get back at your ex—pursue things that are smart and strategic for you.

Jennifer Lopez Asked Ruth Bader Ginsburg for the Secret to a Happy Marriage

While it’s still TBD on when Jennifer Lopez is officially tying the knot with fiancé Alex Rodriguez, there’s no doubt we’re excited for what’s sure to be a glamorous day. Although wedding preparations might be underway (or at least ideating—J.Lo did just wrap a tour, after all), J.Lo definitely has the upcoming nuptials on her mind. How do we know? She reportedly recently asked Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg for marriage advice—and you can bet The Notorious RBG knew exactly what to say.

Ginsburg told the story herself at the Library of Congress’s National Book Festival in Washington, D.C. this weekend. Apparently J.Lo called her up casually and they wound up hanging out with Ginsburg at her office.

“I was called up about a month or so ago by Jennifer Lopez, and she said she would like to meet me and introduce her fiancé Alex Rodriguez,” she said. “So they came to chambers, and we had a very nice visit. She mostly wanted to ask if I had any secret about a happy marriage. But now ARod is traveling with her to concerts all over the world…”

The interviewer at the panel discussion Ginsburg was recounting this at asked Ginsburg, “So what was your secret to a happy marriage? Did you pass on your mother-in-law’s secret?”

“Yeah, on the day I was married, my mother in law took me aside and said she wanted to tell me what was the secret of a happy marriage,” Ginsburg responded. “And I said I’d be glad to hear what is it, and she responded it helps sometimes to be a little deaf.”

I mean, not gonna knock it! And Ginsburg should know: She paved the way as a groundbreaking, hugely dedicated justice while maintaining a marriage to husband Marty Ginsburg for more than 50 years (he died in 2010).

With a dash of her dry humor, Ginsburg also added that her advice works in a few other contexts, namely “every workplace, including the good job I have now.”

As a quick refresh, A-Rod proposed back in March while the two were vacationing in the Bahamas with an absolute whopper of an emerald-cut diamond. The moment was captured perfectly on Instagram:

Since then, the two have been living it up: J.Lo recently celebrated her epic 50th birthday with an epically over-the-top party at Gloria and Emilio Estefan’s estate on Star Island in Miami, as one does.

Lopez soon reciprocated the birthday affection with a fun surprise for A-Rod, who turned 44 toward the end of July: She and his two daughters surprised him during an ESPN appearance.

Then, she pulled him onstage during her Miami concert to sing him “Happy Birthday,” complete with a massive Yankees-themed cake.

Clearly, these two are pros at making things work with their insanely busy schedules—but getting a little extra advice from The Notorious RBG, who has put in years of work both on the bench and back home with her husband? Definitely can’t hurt.

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth Are Separating After Less Than a Year of Marriage

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are separating after less than a year of marriage, according to a surprising new report from People.

“Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time,” a rep for Cyrus told the publication. “Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers. They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”

This comes after Cyrus posted an Instagram of herself without her wedding ring. “Mute me if you don’t want SPAMMED,” she wrote in the post’s caption.

Naturally, people on social media had some feelings about the break up. “Had the unfortunate job of breaking the news tonight to many of my friends that Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus broke up,” one user wrote. “I thought those crazy kids were going to make it!! Even with all their ups and downs!!”

Cyrus and Hemsworth met in 2009 on the set of the Nicholas Sparks romance The Last Song and first got engaged in 2012. They broke up a year later, though—only to then reconcile in 2015. Three years after that, in November 2018, the couple married in an intimate ceremony.

“I think it’s very confusing to people that I’m married,” Cyrus told Elle in a recent interview. “But my relationship is unique. And I don’t know that I would ever publicly allow people in there because it’s so complex, and modern, and new that I don’t think we’re in a place where people would get it.”

She continued, “I mean, do people really think that I’m at home in a fucking apron cooking dinner? I’m in a hetero relationship, but I still am very sexually attracted to women. People become vegetarian for health reasons, but bacon is still fucking good, and I know that. I made a partner decision. This is the person I feel has my back the most. I definitely don’t fit into a stereotypical wife role. I don’t even like that word.”
