People Are Freaking Out Over Rihanna's Savage x Fenty Show

Rihanna‘s Savage x Fenty show has quickly become one of the hottest tickets in town during New York Fashion Week. But in keeping with the brand’s values of inclusivity, it’s not just for fashion editors and buyers anymore: The actual show took place last week, but now anyone with an Amazon Prime account can stream it, thanks to its exclusive partnership with the platform.

The show was filmed at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York and featured a bevy of supermodels (including Gigi and Bella Hadid and Cara Delevingne), as well as celebrities like Laverne Cox and Normani. But along with those famous faces, Savage x Fenty also gave the crowd performances by Halsey, Migos, Big Sean, A$AP Ferg, and Halsey. Music, dancing, models of all shapes and sizes, gorgeous lingerie, and Rihanna? We’d say that makes for a pretty perfect runway show.

You can watch (and shop) the whole thing for yourself right now. And, judging from our Twitter feeds this morning, it seems the Navy is up early to support Rih.

And once the viewing public got eyes on Rihanna’s latest creations, they appropriately freaked out.

Normani, who Nicki Minaj once famously called “that bitch” truly lived up to her moniker with out-of-this world choreo. “Normani is doing what the other girls can’t do,” one fan tweeted. “Normani was EASILY the best part of the Savage x Fenty Fashion Show and that’s all I have to say,” another wrote.

But the overall show was a total hit, too. “LOOK HOW SHE ATE THAT… HER JOB IS TO SERVE AFTER ALL #SavageXFenty,” one Rihanna fan said. “Just the biggest supermodels of this generation casually slaying #SavageXFenty,” another wrote.

People loved the inclusivity of it all.

Seriously, there is nothing Rihanna can’t do—we just want more, more, more. Spring 2020, we’re ready for you.

Fans Think Rihanna's Red Hair at the BET Awards Means Her Album Is Coming Soon

Last night’s BET Awards, hosted by Regina Hall, were packed with must-see moments. There was an epic Mary J. Blige medley (featuring Lil Kim!), a tribute to rapper Nipsey Hussle, yet another incredible Lizzo performance, and an inspiring speech from Tyler Perry, to name just a few.

But for many Rihanna fans, the fact that the singer and Fenty beauty founder was in the house was the biggest news of all. The singer was on hand to present the Lifetime Achievement Award to Blige. “Ladies and gentlemen, get on your feet right now, c’mon now,” she said from the stage. “The recipient of the 2019 BET Lifetime Achievement Award, the undeniable queen of hip-hop and R&B, Mary J. Blige.”

Rihanna’s fans, a.k.a. her “Navy,” quickly noticed that the singer was sporting newly red hair (although, her braids were a red hue when she went day drinking with Seth Meyers earlier in the week); that alone might not sound too noteworthy, but some of those fans think it’s a sign she’ll soon be releasing new music. “Rihanna changes her hair color when she’s about to drop an album,” one wrote on Twitter. “Rihanna has red hair again . music gonna be ????,” another tweeted.

“Rihanna singing w red hair… we are that much closer to R9,” one social media user said, referring to Rihanna’s highly-anticipated ninth album.

Others simply loved the look and think it’s RiRi’s best color.

“It really does suck that it can’t just come out, because I’m working on a really fun one right now,” Rihanna recently told Sarah Paulson in Interview magazine about the new album. “I’m really happy with a lot of the material we have so far, but I am not going to put it out until it’s complete. It makes no sense to rush it, but I want it out. I’ve gotten to the point where I’m like, ‘Even if I don’t have the time to shoot videos, I’m going to put an album out.'”

Rihanna's Fenty Beauty Is Launching an Inclusive Line of Concealers in 50 Shades

When Rihanna launched Fenty Beauty in 2017, she did so with 40 different shades of foundation. This inclusive debut collection—and its massive success—disrupted the beauty industry, making it clear to other makeup brands that there was a demand for a wide, diverse range of tones. Rihanna pretty much set a new standard in the space. And she’s not stopping.

Rihanna announced that Fenty Beauty will be introducing Pro Filt’r Concealers. And they’ll be even more inclusive than the brand’s initial launch, available in 50 shades to suit customers’ skin tones. Oh, and you don’t have to wait long to shop them—the drop is only 10 days away.

Giving life to hungover souls on New Year’s Day, Fenty posted a few Instagrams on January 1 to announce the launch. “New year, New #FENTYBEAUTY! ??‍♀️ We got #THECURE to your #newyearseve hangover! On January 11, we’re dropping 50 BRAND NEW shades of creamy, creaseproof, and longwearing #PROFILTRCONCEALER! Get it at fentybeauty.com, @sephora, @harveynichols, and #SephorainJCP!!”

That’s right: In less than two weeks, Fenty Beauty’s Pro Filt’r Concealers will be shoppable at FentyBeauty.com, Sephora (both in stand-alone stores and those in J.C. Penney)—and, for anyone reading this across the pond, at Harvey Nichols.

“We all got a lil’ something to cover up!” reads another Instagram from Fenty announcing the launch. “Blemishes, dark circles, bags, and even hangovers, #PROFILTRCONCEALER is #THECURE to hiding it all in a creamy formula that’s longwearing and creaseproof. Who’s ready to get it on January 11??”

Rihanna herself put up a Pro Filt’r Concealer video tutorial on Youtube, so we know exactly how to apply it when the time comes.

The product covers; it brightens; it can even be used as highlighter (she applies it on the bridge of her nose and brow bone.) In the video, Rihanna that if you know your Pro Filt’r Foundation shade, there’s a concealer shade that corresponds—taking the guesswork out of finding the perfect shade. She also eliminated one of our pet concealer peeves: “Especially with a formula like this that dries down and matifies eventually, you expect it to start getting tacky, but this formula does not,” she says in the video.

Also dropping January 11? Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Setting Powder in eight translucent shades…

… plus, 10 more Pro Filt’r Foundation Shades—to match the 50 concealer shades, naturally—and great new tools to complement the products: a Powder Puff Setting Brush, Lil Precision Makeup Sponge Duo, and a Concealer Precision Brush.

Here’s to a 2019 full of Fenty—and more inclusivity in the beauty industry.

Rihanna's Answer to Why She Wasn't Invited to the Royal Wedding Is Honestly Perfection

Rihanna, queen of pop, makeup, lingerie, and Catholicism-inspired fashion, pops up pretty much wherever the latest action is. One place she won’t be, however, is the royal wedding—which, as you might of heard, is happening this coming Saturday, May 19.

The invite list to the royal wedding is kept to an intimate 600 people, not including the 2,640 normals (such as myself, in a better world) who will be spectacle-ing on the grounds of Windsor Castle. That’s fine and all, but when you’re an institution as extensive as the British monarchy and surrounding aristocracy, those seats get filled up pretty quickly.

Apparently, Rihanna is clued into this, and, humbly, didn’t really think she’d be invited. Sure, Rihanna and Prince Harry might have met in 2016 at a Barbados National HIV/AIDS Commission event, but Rihanna didn’t think that alone warranted an invite to the royal wedding.

Fast-forward to 2018, and a reporter asked her if she was going to the big bash. Apparently Rihanna is too busy being fabulous—and also literally busy!—to know the royal wedding is coming up: “So is it really coming up? Like, soon or something?” she said.

“Yeah, in a week,” the reporter replied.

“Oh shoot!” she responded. “See, I need to stay on the Internet more.”

The reporter then promptly asked, “So you weren’t invited?”

She, being humble, was like, “Why would you even think I’m invited?”

The reporter might or might not have been caught off-guard and responded, “I don’t know. You met [Prince Harry].”

And then, Rihanna said jokingly, “OK, you met me. You think you’re coming to my wedding?”

The reporter then said, “Maybe!” and Rihanna asks if she’s invited to hers. “I mean, you’ll get the invite,” she responds.

“Oh, girl,” Rihanna replied, before flipping her gorgeous hair.

Simply iconic.

Rihanna's Leg Hair Has Social Media Cancelling Shaving This Summer

As a worldwide phenomenon, Rihanna can walk out the door and likely do anything she wants. Some days that means reinventing foundation; other days, she’s announcing that Fenty is going into lingerie. And yet, even Rihanna has slow days. Sometimes she just wants to catch some sun, take some selfies, and skip the grind of having to shave every damn day.

On Wednesday, the singer posted a series of photos on Instagram that capture her doing exactly that—and commenters were quick to praise Rih for once again not conforming to beauty standards. The scenario is a familiar one for anyone who’s taken advantage of warm weather without carving out time to shave first (because truly, who’s going to pass up sunlight to spend some quality time with an overpriced pink razor?). Clearly, people are relating to it. The shot has already gotten 2.5 million likes (at the time of publishing) and counting.

Fans were also praising the “stretch marks” they spotted in Rihanna’s last photo. Although as it turns out, the streaks on her skin are actually a trick of the light (really)—which Rihanna pointed out to fans. “I got stretch marks but dats the sun ?,” she wrote in the comments. Regardless, people on social media are celebrating the representation.

And with that, Rihanna joins the growing number of celebrities normalizing bodies as they are. Bella Thorne, Paris Jackson, and Jessica Simpson have all recently shared photos of their leg hair as well. It’s not the longest list, but it’s better than nothing.

See Rihanna's Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint on 7 Women

If there’s one thing Rihanna’s made damn well clear about Fenty Beauty, it’s that her makeup brand is for everyone. Since Fenty’s launch three months ago, it’s set the bar for what an inclusive line really looks like—and it has the numbers to prove it. (Those figures, by the way? They go to the tune of $72 million in earned media value in a single month. Those are the kinds of sales the major beauty companies of the world dream of.) So it should be surprise to absolutely no one that when Rihanna announced she had a “universally flattering” red lipstick on the way, she wasn’t kidding around. From the teasers we’ve seen on models like Duckie Thot (shown in the clip below) and Slick Woods, Rihanna’s Stunna Lip Paint holds up to its lofty claims.

Still, it’s one thing to watch Rihanna deliver the coolest lipstick tutorial the Internet’s ever seen. It’s another to put it on yourself. So ahead of the lipstick’s launch at Sephora on Thursday (November 23), we got our hands on a tube, braved passing it around during flu season (it’s what you do when you have access to Fenty), and complimented each other to the point it was almost ridiculous.

Watch in the video below, and read on for what our staffers thought.

“I’m a little self-conscious about my lips (people mention their size all the time), so I normally shy away from bright, punchy colors, but this one is fantastic. It went on so easy and has so much pigment that you don’t have to do a ton of layers. It feels good on your lips, not drying, and it’s so light I kind of forget that it’s on.” —Khaliha Hawkins, digital administrative assistant

“I’m honestly not bad at putting on lipstick. I can swipe even the trickiest formulas on in the back of a moving cab without a problem. But putting this on while standing still in front of a mirror proved unusually difficult. I had to go back over spots with concealer to sharpen up the line. But it was time well spent. I mean, look at the finish. The other downside is that it came off on literally everything my lips touched, and yet, somehow, you couldn’t actually tell the difference on my face. The formula isn’t quite the gamechanger that was hyped, but for $24, I’d throw down for it.” —Lindsay Schallon, senior digital beauty editor

“It’s so different from what I was expecting. Since it’s matte, I thought it would have that chalky feel right away, but it went on so smoothly. Once it’s on, it feels creamy and light, again, very much unlike a matte lipstick. You know that feeling at the end of the day when you take off matte lipstick and your lips feel awful? Not the case here. And the best part is that even without a liner, it doesn’t look like I just threw red lipstick on my mouth. It stays crisp and sharp.” —Blake Newby, beauty assistant

“The color is so pretty on everyone—it’s this really flattering blue, almost neutral red. A lot of bluish reds veer very pink on me, but I didn’t get that problem at all. It reminds me a lot of a more forgiving MAC in Ruby Woo. The dry down is matte, but not that super-drying finish we all know and love (or hate). I don’t know why it looks so vinyl-y in the bottle, because it really quickly becomes this soft, flat color on your lips. The flipside of that is you do have to work with it to get the shape that you want, but it’s worth it. Just have Q-tips ready.” —Rachel Nussbaum, beauty writer

“I have never said this before, but I need Rihanna to step it up. Only because this lipstick is fantastic, and I want it in every color. The applicator is almost a deer hoof, but a little flatter on the end and delivers a really crisp edge. The color is magnificent, and the finish is visually a true, true matte—totally flat and smooth—but it feels like a satin-finish lipstick or even a tinted balm. Also, it makes my teeth look like I’m paid to promote tooth-whitening products, so yeah, I’m in love.” —Amber Rambharose, beauty editor

“Because I’m so pale, a lot of times I’ll think I like a red, but when I put it on it’s too dark. I love this color, though! It was a little more liquid-y that I’m used to, but the applicator was great—it’s a really unique and interesting shape—and made the application process easier.” —Emily Geraghty, senior producer

“I want to preface this with saying that I am not a lip expert. I usually don’t wear anything on my lips, so I’m coming at it from a very beginner level. The shape of the applicator was cool, but the lipstick itself was really runny so I had to do a lot of touching up, and ended up staining the skin around my mouth a bit. That said, the formula feels really good on, and I loved the color.” —Nina Bahadur, Women of the Year lead

Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint in Uncensored, $24, goes on sale in stores and online at sephora.com and fentybeauty.com on November 23.
