Rihanna Says Fenty Skin Is Coming

When Rihanna launched Fenty Beauty in 2017, it revolutionized the makeup industry based on one single premise: Give the people—all the people—products in shade ranges that work for them. And now that that’s finally becoming the norm, Rih has her sights set on doing the same thing for skin care.

In her new interview with British Vogue (she’s the magazine’s May cover star), RiRi confirms that Fenty Skin is, in fact, coming—although she doesn’t have an exact release date yet. “Skin care, it’s the truth. It either works or it doesn’t. There’s nowhere to hide,” she tells the magazine.

Of course, when Fenty Skin does launch, it will no-doubt be top-notch. All of RiRi’s endeavors are—whether that’s launching a foundation, designing a line of lingerie, or dropping new music, which fans have been eagerly anticipating for years. “I refuse to release anything that is not up to par with my quality level,” she says about her endeavors with Fenty. “The angle of a hem, the size of a sleeve, the stitch… If it’s not the right stitch that I want.”

Rihanna’s brand is all about quality—and diversity. She says she’s still surprised when people come up to her and suggest that making products for a range of skin tones was a novel, revolutionary idea.

“I’m shocked by people saying, ‘Oh my god, what made you think of making makeup for black girls?’” she tells British Vogue. “I’m like, ‘What? You thought this was like, a marketing strategy? Like I’m a genius?’ It’s shocking most of the time, then it turns into disappointment that this is groundbreaking right now. In my mind, this was just normal.”

Also normal for Rihanna: having a heavy, active hand in Fenty—down to the words on bottles and product names. That’s one of many reasons why the brand is successful: It’s authentic. “I write all of the copy for the websites, the product descriptions, and product names,” she says. “I do have a huge team, but I just don’t necessarily think their tone is mine. I’d feel like a fraud selling something that I can’t stand by.”

People Are Freaking Out Over Rihanna's Savage x Fenty Show

Rihanna‘s Savage x Fenty show has quickly become one of the hottest tickets in town during New York Fashion Week. But in keeping with the brand’s values of inclusivity, it’s not just for fashion editors and buyers anymore: The actual show took place last week, but now anyone with an Amazon Prime account can stream it, thanks to its exclusive partnership with the platform.

The show was filmed at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York and featured a bevy of supermodels (including Gigi and Bella Hadid and Cara Delevingne), as well as celebrities like Laverne Cox and Normani. But along with those famous faces, Savage x Fenty also gave the crowd performances by Halsey, Migos, Big Sean, A$AP Ferg, and Halsey. Music, dancing, models of all shapes and sizes, gorgeous lingerie, and Rihanna? We’d say that makes for a pretty perfect runway show.

You can watch (and shop) the whole thing for yourself right now. And, judging from our Twitter feeds this morning, it seems the Navy is up early to support Rih.

And once the viewing public got eyes on Rihanna’s latest creations, they appropriately freaked out.

Normani, who Nicki Minaj once famously called “that bitch” truly lived up to her moniker with out-of-this world choreo. “Normani is doing what the other girls can’t do,” one fan tweeted. “Normani was EASILY the best part of the Savage x Fenty Fashion Show and that’s all I have to say,” another wrote.

But the overall show was a total hit, too. “LOOK HOW SHE ATE THAT… HER JOB IS TO SERVE AFTER ALL #SavageXFenty,” one Rihanna fan said. “Just the biggest supermodels of this generation casually slaying #SavageXFenty,” another wrote.

People loved the inclusivity of it all.

Seriously, there is nothing Rihanna can’t do—we just want more, more, more. Spring 2020, we’re ready for you.

Rihanna Paired a Straight-Off-the-Runway Jacquemus Suit with a $33 Savage x Fenty Bodysuit

Peeking from underneath her Jacquemus blazer was a metallic lace teddy from her Savage x Fenty lingerie collection, which retails for $33. It looked perfect, as did that pop of pink on her lips. You can shop it right now—but it’s on sale, so hurry.

And they may be hard to see under her long hem, but Rihanna also opted for white strappy shoes from her luxury fashion line, Fenty. They’re not quite as affordable as the bodysuit, but they’re equally fabulous.

We’d also like to thank Rihanna for continuing to prove that the old fashion rules need not apply: If you want to wear a white suit after Labor Day, go for it. If anyone questions you, just tell them RiRi fully approves.

Fenty Beauty Brow MVP Brow Pencil: See It On 7 Women

When anything Fenty Beauty drops, there’s a palpable buzz in the office, and the team swarms my desk in order to get a peek at the newest product Rihanna has blessed us with. While I understand the enthusiasm for her highlighters and lipsticks, I can’t say I was expecting the flurry of excited Slack messages when I announced Fenty’s new brow pencils had arrived. Not that there’s anything wrong with brow pencils, they just aren’t as exciting to me as a shimmery lip gloss or volume-boosting mascara. But that’s just the power of Rihanna.

The Fenty Beauty Brow MVP Ultra Fine Brow Pencil & Styler has an ultra-thin-tipped retractable pencil that the brand claims is smudge- and waterproof. On the other side, where you’d usually find a spoolie, is a small paddle-shaped brush that resembles a tiny toothbrush, to evenly smooth and distribute color. And because this is Fenty we’re talking about, where inclusivity is a priority, the range includes 14 shades—one of the largest on the market for brows—ranging from light blonde to true black. There are even four shades for redheads, which if you are one, you know is nothing short of a dream.

Read on to see Fenty’s new brow pencils on seven women, along with our first impressions.

“Fenty Skin” Was Officially Registered as a Trademark — Is Rihanna Launching Skin Care Soon?

Over the last two years, Fenty Beauty has brought us countless boundary-breaking launches—some of which sold out in mere hours—with the kind of inclusive marketing we’ve been waiting to see in the makeup space for years. Now, the powerhouse brand is getting ready to make its mark on the skin-care world, too, and we couldn’t be more excited.

Although details are limited, here’s what we know so far: Thanks to eagle eyes at Page Six, “Fenty Skin” was officially listed as a trademark on the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s website as of March 25, 2019 (i.e. less than a month ago). You might remember that there were rumors of a Fenty skin-care line coming in September of 2017 after a fan found items like creams, lotions, gels, and cleansers, registered under “House of Fenty.” But besides the brand’s best-selling Body Lava, we’ve yet to see other complexion-care products from Fenty.

Now, though, there are specific trademarks filed under the new “Fenty Skin” label, including “medicated and non-medicated skincare, soap, body care and personal care products (excluding color cosmetics, perfume and other fragrance-only products), and related accessories such as kits, tools and applicators.”

While right now it’s hard to imagine what a line of Fenty skin care would look like, something tells us it will be just as amazing and inclusive of skin types and tones — just as its makeup is. (Our girl Rihanna is behind it, after all.)

The “Fenty Skin” trademark application was just approved, albeit it still has to be viewed and signed by an attorney, a process that Page Six points out can take up to three months. In the meantime, it’s safe to say we’ll be storing away some of our precious pennies for when it does finally make its grand debut.
