The Big Little Lies Cast Just Gave Us So Much Tea on Season 2

There is so much on the line going into Big Little Lies season two. If you somehow forgot, season one ended with—spoiler warning—Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz) killing Perry (Alexander Skarsgård) by pushing him down a flight of stairs, and the other Monterrey moms covering it up. So on top of all the problems these women were already dealing with, they’re now harboring a huge, life-changing secret.

And that secret is at the core of season two, which also stars the one and only Meryl Streep as Perry’s mother. The teasers for BLL suggest Streep’s character doesn’t buy the moms’ story that Perry accidentally slipped on those stairs. She’s looking for the truth—and I have a feeling she’s going to find it.

What that will mean for Madeline (Reese Witherspoon), Bonnie, Renata (Laura Dern), Jane (Shailene Woodley), and Celeste (Nicole Kidman) is still a mystery. In fact, there’s still so much about Big Little Lies season two that we don’t know. But we did get a few hints from the cast at BLL‘s season two premiere in New York City.

Here’s what they shared.

“We weren’t finished,” David E. Kelley, who wrote all the scripts, tells Glamour about the decision to do a season two. “We certainly dug into the abuse in year one, but the healing is something altogether different. So it really was unfinished. We were not going to do year two just because it was a commercial success. We wanted to be confident we could be just as emotionally provocative as we were in year one. I think we went deeper in year two.”

“She’s really sassy, and something happens that she gets in big trouble for doing,” Darby Camp, who plays Chloe, tells Glamour. “I’m actually excited to see more trouble that she gets into. She is still fighting with Madeline, and she’s still the sassy, same-old Chloe: troublemaker.”

“I think her mom is grounded and an Earth mother,” says Crystal Fox, who plays Elizabeth. “She’s probably coming in there to say, ‘Are you getting it together? What is going on? What are you doing?’ You know how moms can tell if you’re in a space, and they just wanna see what you’re gonna tell them? They just start watching you, and they know your behavior’s changed. And then they go, ‘OK, maybe you’ll tell me.’ And when you don’t, I’ll say, ‘What’s going on?'”

HBO

“It’s really worth it,” says Merrin Dungey, who plays Detective Adrienne Quinlan. “It’s an incredibly told story. I was surprised there was going to be a season two. The fact they upped the ante is incredible.”

“When you carry guilt, it can never be off your back entirely—whether it’s physicalized in another person hunting you or asking questions about it or if it’s just in your own heart,” Dungey adds.

Camilla Parker Bowles Gave a Shady Wink During Tea With Donald Trump, and People Are Living

Camilla Parker Bowles is the royal everyone’s talking about today, thanks to a cheeky wink she gave behind President Donald Trump‘s back during his visit to the U.K. on Monday, June 4.

The reasoning behind the Duchess of Cornwall’s wink is unclear. Is she being shady? Funny? Was there just something in her eye? OK, it’s definitely not that last one. This was a clear, distinct wink, and whatever the context, it’s funny as hell.

The Internet, naturally, is having a field day over Bowles’ gesture, with some asserting it confirms the royal family’s eye-roll attitude toward Trump. Of course, that’s just conjecture. The royals are pretty tight-lipped when it comes to moments like this (and also…everything else), so we’ll probably never know exactly why Bowles winked. So let’s just enjoy it at face value, shall we?

First, check out Camilla Parker Bowles’ instantly-iconic moment for yourself, below:

And read some Twitter users’ reactions—all hilarious.

“In that one wink Camilla has redeemed herself entirely to me. All is forgiven,” one person wrote on Twitter. “Camilla’s face is the look your mum gives you when you say you want to go home,” posted another, while a third simply wrote, “We are all Camilla.” Yes, we are.

It’s been a whirlwind few days for the royal family and the Trumps. The group had dinner tonight at Winfield House, the residence of the U.S. ambassador in England, where Trump is staying during his visit. There was also a ceremonial welcome for the Trumps at the Buckingham Palace Garden on Monday.

One person who noticeably isn’t meeting with Trump on his trip is Meghan Markle, who’s still on maternity leave. In an interview with The Sun earlier this week, Trump reportedly called Markle “nasty” after learning she accused him of being “misogynistic” and “divisive” in the 2016 election. He later denounced The Sun‘s story in a tweet:

Selena Gomez Gave the Sweetest Toast at Her Bodyguard's Wedding

To say Selena Gomez is a jack-of-all-trades would be an understatement. The multitalented singer, songwriter, actor and performer has accrued a whole list of accolades in her short time in the spotlight. But she also keeps it real, heading home for her friends’ bachelorette parties and weddings to be with them on their big days. It was her bodyguard’s turn to tie the knot recently, and of course Gomez was there for him, too—and as it turns out, she even gave a super-sweet toast at his wedding.

On Friday, Gomez attended the nuptials of her longtime bodyguard in Redlands, California. Between posing for pictures with guests and showing off her skills as child whisperer with the ceremony’s youngest attendees, Gomez took the mic to offer up an adorably thoughtful toast to the newlyweds, commenting on her first impressions of the bride and how happy the married pair seemed to make each other.

“I had the pleasure of meeting Melissa, and I was thrilled, first off, ’cause she’s a badass. Second, because of how much you love her,” Gomez said to her bodyguard, the groom, in her speech. “It’s so special. I’m very honored to be here and to celebrate you both…God bless you guys. We will be praying for you, and thank you so much.”

Prior to Friday’s outing, Gomez has been calculated with her public appearances, slowly coming back into the public eye after a brief hiatus to focus on her health. In an Instagram post back in January, the star addressed her time away and thanked fans for the continued support. “Last year was definitely a year of self-reflection, challenges and growth. It’s always those challenges which show you who you are and what you are capable of overcoming,” she wrote. “Trust me, it’s not easy, but I am proud of the person I am becoming and look forward to the year ahead. Love you all.”

But despite her less-than-easy last year, Gomez was all smiles and heartfelt words at her bodyguard’s wedding—we’re pretty sure none of the guests will be forgetting her or her speech anytime soon.

Kylie Jenner, Burgeoning Tattoo Artist, Gave Travis Scott a Mystery Tattoo

Remember all those rumors that Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott’s relationship was in peril? Yeah, neither do we. The couple looked more united than ever this past week, after Jenner threw Scott an absolutely bonkers 28th birthday party, which included its very own tattoo station.

Thanks to a video from celebrity tattoo artist JonBoy (Jonathan Valena), we know that at one point in the evening, Jenner took control of the needle and gave Scott a tattoo. While we don’t know what the final image looks like, JonBoy’s caption, “T.S. [heart emoji] K.J,” might be a hint. In another video from the night, Jenner and Scott appear to be getting tattoos from JonBoy himself. With the Met Gala set to unfold on Monday, it’s possible we get our first look at the couple’s brand new ink as early as tomorrow.

That was just one of the many (many) highlights from the party, which Jenner said she creative-directed herself. Among the guests who enjoyed burgers and a giant birthday cake in the shape of an Air Jordan, were Madison Beer, Kanye West, and Kendall Jenner. Kim Kardashian was also on hand, and documented the extravagant evening on her Instagram Stories. “We’re in a fun house. I don’t know what’s going on here,” she said after walking through the mouth of a giant blow-up version of Scott. Yeah, that sounds about right.

Earlier in the day, Jenner paid tribute to Scott on Instagram, with a series of photos and a steamy caption. “Watching you evolve into the partner, friend, son, and father you are today has been so fulfilling ♥️ my real life bestie & hubby all wrapped into one,” she wrote. “i love you and I’m so so proud of you. happy happy birthday ?? let’s f*ck around and have another baby.”

Eva Mendes Just Gave a Rare Interview About Ryan Gosling

Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling are a notoriously private couple, so it’s exciting when either of them opens up about their relationship. Mendes last did this in February, talking specifically about how her family celebrates their Cuban heritage. But in a new interview with Women’s Health, the actress gives a little more insight into her relationship with Gosling. Spoiler alert: They’re still very much in love.

In fact, it was Mendes’ love for Gosling that changed her mind about having children in the first place. (The couple has two daughters, Esmeralda and Amanda.) “It was the furthest thing from my mind,” Mendes tells Women’s Health about having kids. Then, she says, “Ryan Gosling happened. I mean, falling in love with him. Then it made sense for me to have…not kids, but his kids. It was very specific to him.”

Fast-forward several years, and Gosling and Mendes are parenting pros, though she says they’re “just starting to get out of survival mode”: “I’m starting to feel like a person again.”

She credits both her and Gosling’s families for helping them through this “survival mode.” “We have an amazing support group: Ryan’s mom, my mom, Ryan’s and my sisters,” Mendes says. “It’s a village that helped us. My heart goes out to women who do this alone. I basically come from a single-parent household; although I love my dad, my mom mostly raised four of us on her own.”

Gosling gives Mendes plenty of credit too. In his acceptance speech for La La Land at the 2017 Golden Globes, he thanked her for raising their daughter and carrying their second while he was filming. All this happened in tandem with Mendes’ brother, Juan Carlos, fighting—and losing—a battle with cancer. Gosling ultimately dedicated his award to Juan.

Watching this on screen, Mendes says, was “like a dream.” “What I heard was that he said my brother’s name. It was the most beautiful gesture, and I had no idea Ryan was going to say it.”

How ‘The Bold Type’ Gave Us the Realest Female Friendships on TV Since…Ever?

Can you think of anyone you’d rather talk to about friendship than the cast of The Bold Type? Me neither, which is why I spoke with the holy trinity of BFFs themselves—Katie Stevens, Aisha Dee and Meghann Fahy—about just that during a recent visit to the set of the Freeform show, which returns tonight.

The Bold Type has been hailed by fans and critics alike for its nuanced, diverse portrayals of young working women—something that’s unfortunately come few and far between on TV. Each character has a unique storyline, yes, but it still feels as if most women could find a situation or a character they relate to. Whether you connect to Jane (Stevens) and her passionate pursuit of a writing career, Kat (Dee) and her exploration of sexuality, or Sutton (Fahy) and the trials and tribulations of dating, they all have a different take on the world. Those adventures will continue in the third season, and while the trio wouldn’t reveal too much about what’s ahead, they did promise more of the friend porn we’ve come to love and expect.

“What we’re trying our best to do with The Bold Type is to represent [friendships] in the way that we all experience them,” Dee tells Glamour. “We talk about our sex lives. We talk about our periods. We talk about how bloated we feel today. All of that is such a big part of the human experience, and the experience as a woman.”

At the end of season two, each woman’s romantic relationships were pushed to the brink: Jane was forced to choose between the two men in her life, Pinstripe and Ben (and we still don’t know whom she picked); Sutton finally reunited with her ex, Richard; Kat examined the ways in which her relationship to Adena might have negatively affected her girlfriend’s work. But as usual, the northern star of the show was—and remains—Jane, Kat, and Sutton’s friendships with each other.

“I definitely think there’s something special about our show and how we showcase female friendship, navigating your way through your twenties in the workplace, and just living in today’s America,” Stevens says. For her it’s important that The Bold Type highlight each woman’s flaws and downfalls and then examine how those traits inform their relationships with one another. That is, after all, what we experience in real-life friendships with other women.

“The legs that the show stands on are the friendships between the three of us,” Stevens says. “An episode won’t go by without the three of us together hashing through something or being there for each other when something goes wrong.” She promises more of that in season three—in part because her off-screen relationships with Dee and Fahy are eerily similar.

“[The show] reflects our relationship in real life,“ Stevens continues. “If we’re on set and one of us is not having the best day, the other two are like, ’All right, today’s your day. We’re going to lift you up.’”

Fahy tells me that—just like her, Stevens, and Dee—other women often tell the cast that they see themselves in these characters. These fans relate to the good, the bad, and the ugly. “So many people come up to us and say, ‘Oh, I’m a Jane!‘ Or, ‘I’m a Kat, and my best friend’s a Sutton. We watch the show together!’” Fahy agrees with costar Dee’s outlook on the ways in which female friendships are portrayed on this show versus how they’ve been historically depicted in film and TV (which is, uh, poorly).

“There are so many negative portrayals of female relationships in the media, and I think what’s more true than those are the ones on our show,“ Fahy says. “We are girls who communicate with each other, girls who fight but who listen to each other, girls who apologize when they’ve hurt somebody. That to me is more of an honest representation of female friendship than a lot of the other things out there right now.”
