Demi Lovato Says She’s ‘Not Friends’ With Selena Gomez

Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez have known each other since they were young kids—they appeared on Barney together back in the day—and we’ve seen their friendship evolve over the years. But according to a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar, that friendship isn’t much right now. In fact, it’s nothing at all.

You’ll remember, back in January, when Lovato performed for the first time since her 2018 overdose. She sang a powerful new ballad, “Anyone,” at the 2020 Grammys, and her performance was critically acclaimed. Not only did the Grammys audience give her a standing ovation, her old pal Gomez took to Instagram Stories and congratulated her.

“I wish there were words to describe how beautiful, inspirational and DESERVED this moment was. Demi I’m so happy for you. Thank you for your courage and bravery,” Gomez wrote.

It was a nice sentiment, but according to Lovato’s new cover interview with Harper’s Bazaar, it came out of left field. “When you grow up with somebody, you’re always going to have love for them. But I’m not friends with her, so it felt…,” she told the magazine before reportedly stopping herself midthought. She finished by saying, “I will always have love for her, and I wish everybody nothing but the best.”

Lovato and Gomez have never really bad-mouthed each other in public, but their friendship has ebbed and flowed through the years. When asked about their relationship in 2014, for example, Lovato said, “I think it’s just one of those things where people change and people grow apart.”

And in 2017, Gomez left a comment on social media, congratulating Lovato on her YouTube documentary, Simply Complicated. “I’m so happy for you. You always continue to [be] bold and real. I wish more people were like you. Love you,” she wrote.

But to put Lovato’s Bazaar quote into perspective: Just because she and Gomez aren’t currently friends doesn’t mean there’s any bad blood. This is how life works, people. You’d be hard-pressed to find someone who has the exact same best friends at 27 as they did at 17.

Selena Gomez Revealed She's Bipolar During an Instagram Live With Miley Cyrus

In an Instagram Live chat with Miley Cyrus on Friday, April 3, Selena Gomez revealed that she is bipolar.

Gomez joined Cyrus on the latter’s Bright Minded IG Live series, where they talked about a variety of subjects, including mental health. When Cyrus asked Gomez how she goes about managing her mental health, the Rare singer opened up.

“Recently, I went to one of the best mental hospitals in the world, but definitely in America, McLean’s Hospital. I discussed that, after years of going through a lot of different things, I realized that I was bipolar,” she said. “So when I go to know more information, it actually helps me. It doesn’t scare me once I know it. I think people get scared of that.”

Gomez continued, “I’ve seen it, and I’ve seen some of it in my own family, where I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ I’m from Texas. It’s not known to talk about your mental health. You’ve got to seem cool, and then I see anger built up in teenagers and young adults because they are wanting that so badly. I feel like, when I finally said what I was gonna say, I wanted to know everything about it and it took the fear away.”

See Gomez discuss this in the video, below:

This is the first time Selena Gomez has talked about her bipolar diagnosis, but she’s been incredibly open in the past about her general mental health. In 2016, she took some time off to seek treatment for anxiety and depression. “Everything I cared about, I stopped caring about. I came out, and it felt like, ‘OK, I can only go forward,'” she told InStyle a year later about the treatment. “And there are still days. I go to therapy. I believe in that and talking about where you are. But I’m in a really, really healthy place.”

In January 2020, Gomez talked about how finding the “right medication” was instrumental in her mental health journey. “I found out I do suffer from mental health issues,” she told WSJ magazine. “And honestly, that was such a relief,” she continued. “I realized that there was a way to get help and to find people that you trust. I got on the right medication, and my life has been completely changed.”

Selena Gomez and The Bachelor's Madison Prewett Are Now Hanging Out

Selena Gomez—who knows a thing or two about heartbreak—is hanging out with Madison Prewett, who just broke up with Peter Weber from The Bachelor.

“Hey guys, I hope everyone is being safe and taking good care of yourselves,” Gomez said in a new Instagram Story from Thursday night (March 12), addressing the current coronavirus pandemic. “I know you’re probably tired of hearing it but I just want to let you guys know that I am praying and I am thinking about everyone.”

Then, out of nowhere, Gomez turns the camera onto Prewett, who is perusing the board game aisle with two other friends. “Madi, what game do you want?” Gomez asks, before focusing on Prewett, who seemed to be in a great mood despite the Weber news.

“Honestly anything, everything looks great!” she replied.

Gomez also posted a video of the group following through on their purchases, calling Prewett and her game partner “losers.” Apparently, “they cheated.”

Right around the time of the quarantine board game party, Prewett announced her split from Weber on Instagram. “So incredibly thankful for this amazing journey I’ve had the honor of being a part of. I have grown so much and am stronger than I was going in. I have learned the importance of acceptance, forgiveness, and grace,” she wrote. “As Peter and I have decided to go our separate ways, I am confident that we will both move in the direction of our purpose and never forget that God has a plan in all things. I will always love and respect him.”

Despite their rocky relationship and Peter’s mother’s barbs (heh) during the After the Final Rose ceremony, there are seemingly no hard feelings between him and Prewett. “I am convinced our paths were meant to cross and we are both better because they did,” Prewett continued. “[Peter] you are an amazing guy and I’m thankful for you. I will always be your biggest fan. And to the amazing women I met this season, I will love you for life. Thank you [ABC] for allowing me to embark on this journey.”

There’s no word yet on how Selena Gomez and Madison Prewett met, but if we can turn this into a collab on a new breakup anthem, I’d be here for it.

Selena Gomez Is Bringing Back ‘The Rachel’ Cut

Selena Gomez has made her love of both Friends and Jennifer Aniston well-known. In fact, the two women are good friends and last chatted about their connection on The Ellen DeGeneres Show earlier this year. (Gomez was a guest, while Aniston guest-hosted.) “You really are a genuine [Friends] fan,” Aniston said to Gomez. “It’s amazing. We’ve known each other for years. You’ve been to my house. We’ve had pizza. Girl after my own heart—do we love a pizza or what? We love a pizza.”

It should come as no surprise, then, that Gomez’s latest hair transformation is actually inspired by Aniston’s iconic Friends character, Rachel Green. The Rare singer stepped out for an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show in early March sporting a haircut resembling “The Rachel,” the choppy layered cut Aniston made popular on Friends. Gomez’s is a bit longer, but the inspiration is undeniably there. It was even confirmed by the singer’s hairstylist, Marissa Marino, who wrote on Instagram about the new look: “Hair inspo was ‘The Rachel’ meets Goldie Hawn in First Wives Club.

See more of the look in this interview clip, below, from The Kelly Clarkson Show:

It’s only March, but 2020 has been an incredible year for Gomez. Her third studio album, Rare, was released in January and earned rave reviews from critics. Aniston, meanwhile, is coming off an impressive awards-season run with her hit Apple+ TV series, The Morning Show. Now, if only S and J would do a movie or show together.

In that aforementioned Ellen interview, Gomez opened up to Aniston about meeting her for the first time. “I think we were at Vanity Fair‘s something event, and I was there with my mom, and I walked into the bathroom and I saw you, and you were just like so nice,” Gomez recalled. “You just walked out of the bathroom and you were going back, and my heart, like, stopped. And I freaked out and I ran to my mom and I was like, ‘Oh my God, I just saw Jennifer Aniston.’” Really, can you blame her?

Selena Gomez: Kissing Dylan Sprouse Was ‘One of the Worst Days of My Life’

As far as first kisses go, it sounds like Selena Gomez‘s was pretty darn awkward. Of course, that moment is stressful for just about everyone, but can you imagine it happening on the set of a TV show in front of the entire crew…and possibly your actual crush?

That’s what Gomez had to deal with. During a visit to The Kelly Clarkson Show, she revealed details about this defining moment in her life, even though it wasn’t exactly her favorite memory. The year was 2006 and Gomez had a guest-starring role on Disney’s hit show The Suite Life of Zach & Cody, starring twins Dylan and Cole Sprouse. Obviously, this was before she starred in Wizards of Waverly Place.

First and foremost, she actually had a huge crush on Dylan’s twin brother Cole, who she would not be kissing. “I was obsessed with that show, and I thought we were going to be together,“ she said of the Sprouse now known for his role as Jughead Jones on The CW’s Riverdale. This is not new information. Back in September, Gomez posted an Instagram about her 11-year-old affections. “Apparently my heart was very conflicted between Juan and Cole Sprouse when I was 11,” she wrote.

“Always Juan-upping me,” Cole replied to the post at the time. Reader, we do not know who this Juan boy is. Apologies.

But back to that fateful day in 2006. For episode “A Midsummer’s Nightmare,” Gomez had to kiss Dylan on set and it did not go well. “It was my first kiss — [and] on-camera! It was one of the worst days of my life!“ she said to Clarkson.

Gomez has described this kiss before. “I actually leaned in to kiss him, and I had my eyes closed a little too early and I ended up missing, like, half of his lips,“ she previously told Twist Magazine, according to MTV. “So it ended up being the most awkward kiss in the world…I was 12, so it was okay and it was good. Thank goodness he is such an awesome guy!”

Luckily, Dylan is now dating supermodel Barbara Palvin and working on a number of projects, Cole is dating Lili Reinhart, and Selena Gomez is, well, Selena Gomez. It seems like it all worked out just fine for everyone…except for maybe Juan.

Selena Gomez Is Reportedly ‘Relieved' to Be Done With Justin Bieber

Selena Gomez is “extremely relieved” to close the book on Justin Bieber, a source tells Us Weekly.

If you’ve been listening to any of the pop star’s recent music, though, you probably already guessed that. Songs like “Look at Her Now” and “Lose You to Love Me” (both believed to be about Bieber) reflect Gomez’s new, self-assured mindset: The lyrics show her working through heartache to get to the happier, lighter side of life. According to Us Weekly‘s source, music played an instrumental part in Gomez’s journey from pain to joy.

“She loved being able to tell her truth through her own art and her own way,” the source says. “It took a lot of discipline, obedience and strength to get her mental and emotional health back in a good place.”

Emotional and mental health are Gomez’s priorities right now. She’s not concerned with her next romantic relationship, per this source, though she’s open to it.

“Right now, she is focusing on that as well as her music and isn’t actively looking or going out of her way to be in a relationship right now,” the insider tells Us. “She is still healing, but now knows what kind of guy she would want to date and what qualities he would need to have in order for her and her future boyfriend to be in a healthy, thriving, loving and supportive relationship.”

Last month, Selena Gomez opened up about experiencing emotional abuse during the period she dated Justin Bieber.

“I had to find a way to understand it as an adult. And I had to understand the choices I was making,” she told NPR. “As much as I definitely don’t want to spend the rest of my life talking about this, I am really proud that I can say I feel the strongest I’ve ever felt and I’ve found a way to just walk through it with as much grace as possible.”
