Elizabeth Warren Made A Surprise Appearance on ‘Saturday Night Live’ — Twitter Reactions

Elizabeth Warren may have dropped out of the presidential race, but she returned to the spotlight on March 7 for the Saturday Night Live cold open.

During another coronavirus-related opening sketch, Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, played by Kate McKinnon, advises her viewers that the outbreak is an “urban legend—yes, I’m using ‘urban’ as a dog whistle,” and complains that criticism of President Donald Trump’s response to COVID-19 is the work of stark raving mad liberals.

After speaking to Jeanine Pirro (Cecily Strong), Donald Trump Jr. (Mikey Day) and Eric Trump (Alex Moffat), and Chris Matthews (Darrell Hammond), Ingraham patches in Elizabeth Warren to discuss her exit from the race…the actual Elizabeth Warren.

This skit is full of moments that Warren supporters will no doubt find enjoyable. When Ingrahm decides to roll tape of Warren pummeling Michael Bloomberg during the debates, she hits play on a recent viral video of Warren’s dog, Bailey, fighting staffers for a burrito. “Just to be clear, were you the dog or the burrito?” Ingraham asks.

“I was the dog,” Warren responds, to uproarious applauds by the live studio audience.

Warren added that she didn’t have any regrets about her presidential bid, especially because she got to give a billionaire a “swirlie on live TV.” The senator explains that she’s been practicing some self-care stepping down, which includes prank calling big banks, drag-racing Subarus, and staying off Twitter. The cold open then ended with McKinnon running into the room in full Warren gear, unwilling to miss the opportunity to thank her in person for her life’s work. “I’m not dead. I’m just in the Senate,” Warren replies. Watch the full sketch, below:

That’s not all. Having Warren on set at 30 Rock meant some behind-the-scenes antics with her impersonator.

The moment quickly made the rounds on Twitter, via Warren supporters and McKinnon enthusiasts, alike. U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who endorsed Bernie Sanders for president, even replied, “ok this is legendary.”

Here are some more reactions from the night:

Maybe Warren doesn’t need to avoid Twitter after all.

Kanye West Let Elevator Doors Close on Kim Kardashian, and Twitter Has Thoughts

Awkward PDA might need to be the next item on Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s trademark list.

Just four days after sharing a hilarious Jumbotron moment at the NBA All-Star game on Sunday, February 16, Kimye is at it again. To recap, Kim went in for a less-than-ideal cheek-kiss after her rapper husband failed to notice her attempts at sharing a smooch. Twitter, of course, found the whole thing too funny.

Now it looks as though Kanye West is doing his best to make up for the unintentional slight, but it didn’t exactly work out that way. While in Paris for Fashion Week, Kim shared an Instagram Stories video of her and Kanye kissing in one of those panoramic elevators that make most people awkwardly question what to do with their hands. The couple, however, were totally at ease, knowing someone was there to capture the moment. Kanye seems to tell the videographer, “This one was it,” and nod when they ask, “Does this one work?” Not exactly a candid moment, I guess.

That’s not even the part that has folks cringing. Many commenters on a fan account noticed that he left Kim to collect the shopping bags, even as the elevator doors began to close. “I really hate the fact he didn’t get the bags,” commented one Instagram user. That sentiment was pretty much shared by fans on Twitter.

Not everyone, though, was convinced Kanye needed roasting. “If those her clothes then those her bags,” one commenter pointed out. To be fair, there were only two!

At this point I’m kind of convinced the Kardashian-Wests are trolling fans with all these viral moments. Earlier this February, Kim purposely responded to fans who question her home’s minimal aesthetic by debuting a wild playroom with a full-on mini supermarket and concert stage.

“You guys always say my house is so minimal—well, you guys haven’t seen my playroom,” she said on her Instagram story before giving a tour of every child’s dreamland. It sounds like she and Kanye are having just as much fun with all of this as their Internet critics. Who knows what they’ll think up next?

Lizzo Says She’s Leaving Twitter: ‘Too Many Trolls’

Lizzo is extremely committed to doing exactly what makes her feel good as hell, whether that’s twerking in a thong at a Lakers game or belting out her hits in front of a giant inflatable butt at the VMAs. But this attitude extends to her mental health and self-love journeys as well, and she’s been honest when she needs to take time to focus on herself and her feelings. This week she made an important decision to do exactly that by logging off Twitter for a while.

Her message to her fans was quick and to the point: “Yeah I can’t do this Twitter s**t no more.. too many trolls. I’ll be back when I feel like it.” She didn’t go into detail about what exactly prompted the decision, but CNN reports she’s been on the receiving end of abuse from trolls recently related to her weight. Even her tweet was met with a slew of disturbing and offensive responses.

Plenty of fans jumped to her defense and let her know she had their love and encouragement. “Please know for every troll, there are so many genuine fans here to show love and support,” one fan wrote. “We’ve got your back QUEEN! Hope you come back to us soon!”

The news comes just as Lizzo made history as the first solo female artist to headline Bonnaroo. Despite the trolls, the “Tempo” rapper keeps winning and making strides in her career, all the while working to change beauty norms in pop culture.

“Let’s just make space for these women,” she told Glamour last year. “Make space for me. Make space for this generation of artists who are really fearless in self-love. They’re out here. They want to be free. I think allowing that space to be made is really what’s going to shift the narrative in the future. Let’s stop talking about it and make more space for people who are about it.”

Meghan Markle Fans Are Sending Her Powerful Messages of Support on Twitter

It’s not often that a member of the royal family gets vulnerable with reporters. But on Friday, October 18, a revealing interview with Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle made the rounds online, in which she opens up about the intense media scrutiny that’s followed her since she became a royal. Fans are now responding to the interview by rallying behind the Duchess of Sussex with messages of support.

An upcoming documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey follows Meghan Markle and Prince Harry on their recent royal tour of Southern Africa. In a teaser clip from the film, director Tom Bradby asks Markle how she’s minding her physical and mental health amid the media scrutiny she’s faced in recent months. Her answer is gut-wrenching. “I would say…look, any woman, especially when they’re pregnant, you’re really vulnerable,” Markle says. “So that was made really challenging. And then when you have a newborn, you know?

“And especially as a woman, it’s really, it’s a lot,” Markle continues in the clip. “So if you add this on top of just trying to be a new mom or trying to be a newlywed, it’s um…. Yeah, well, I guess, and also thank you for asking because not many people have asked if I’m okay. But it’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes.”

Fans online were stunned at the Duchess’s honesty—and at the difficulties she’s faced in silence. So Greg Hogben, a writer, asked royal fans to share posts with #WeLoveYouMeghan to show their support.

The response was overwhelming. Thousands of fans have written messages to the Duchess with #WeLoveYouMeghan. One called her “a true warrior”; several others noted that her story’s a potent reminder to treat everyone with kindness. Here’s just a sample of the messages fans sent.

High-profile voices have chimed into the conversation to share their support for the duchess, and to remind their followers that any role that comes with press attention can feel isolating. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez retweeted the clip, noting that Markle’s quick rise to notoriety was not unlike her own. “Sudden prominence is a very dehumanizing experience,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “There’s a part of your life that you lose, & it later dawns on you that you’ll never get it back.”

The official Sussex royal accounts haven’t responded to the trending moment, but fans can hope that Markle may have seen their messages of support and love—and that Markle now knows she’s not alone.

Twitter Seems Pretty Convinced That Ariana Grande's Dating Her 'Boyfriend' Collaborator, Mikey Foster

On Friday (August 2), Ariana Grande dropped her new song, “Boyfriend”, which she collaborated on with the band Social House. Along with it, she dropped a music video that portrays her and one of the group’s members, Mikey Foster, as love interests. It didn’t take long for the video, and the couple’s history of collaborating, to spark dating rumors—and now, people on Twitter are fully convinced the “Thank U, Next” singer has a new boyfriend.

Ahead of its release, Grande explained the concept behind the track on Twitter: “We wanted to make something uplifting that captures that feeling of being afraid to take the leap & trust, being afraid of being hurt or feeling like you won’t be enough for that person…but also how it feels to have a crippling crush on someone.”

“I feel like this song captures a common theme in the lives of so many people i know! People want to feel love but don’t want to define their relationship & have trouble fully committing or trusting or allowing themselves to fully love someone. even tho they want to,” she added in a second tweet.

“Boyfriend” isn’t the first time the two have worked together professionally: They also collaborated on “7 Rings” and “Thank U, Next,” with Foster and his bandmate Scootie Anderson producing and co-writing the tracks with Grande.

Despite their professional history—or partly because of it—a lot of fans seem to think “Boyfriend” is actually about her relationship with the singer. The two are currently on the road together too: Social House is touring with Grande at the moment.

Fans were also quick to point out that Foster posted a heartfelt tribute to the pop star on her birthday in June.

Michelle Obama Responded to Trump's Latest Twitter Rant Against Baltimore

As former First Lady Michelle Obama once famously said, “When they go, we go high”—and that’s exactly what it appears she’s doing following President Donald Trump‘s latest Twitter rant. Only a week after a racially charged Twitter attack on four female congresswomen of color, Trump lashed out on Saturday (July 27) at Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings, attacking both Cummings personally and his district in Baltimore.

“Rep, Elijah Cummings has been a brutal bully, shouting and screaming at the great men & women of Border Patrol about conditions at the Southern Border, when actually his Baltimore district is FAR WORSE and more dangerous. His district is considered the Worst in the USA,” Trump wrote. “As proven last week during a Congressional tour, the Border is clean, efficient & well run, just very crowded. Cumming District is a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess. If he spent more time in Baltimore, maybe he could help clean up this very dangerous & filthy place.”

The attack, which Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and many others also called out as racist, likely stems from some recent political drama: NPR reported that on Thursday, the House Oversight and Reform Committee, a committee overseen by Cummings, voted to authorize subpoenas for records of senior White House officials’ to ascertain their use of personal emails and text services for work purposes.

Cummings quickly responded to Trump’s tweet, writing in reply, “Mr. President, I go home to my district daily. Each morning, I wake up, and I go and fight for my neighbors. It is my constitutional duty to conduct oversight of the Executive Branch. But, it is my moral duty to fight for my constituents.”

Obama was among those who quickly defended Cummings—and Baltimore—on Twitter. Her response was subtle, but extremely classy: She clapped back against the President’s invective with a tweet highlighting one of her favorite Baltimore organizations, the Lethal Ladies.

“On #NationalDanceDay, I’m shouting out the Lethal Ladies, a Baltimore STEP team who I saw perform back in 2017. I’m so proud of you all—and everyone who’s dancing today,” she tweeted, along with a short video of their performance.

In the video, the young women not only display their talents but send their own powerful message as well.

“What Michelle Obama taught us when someone is cruel or acts like a bully, you don’t stoop to their level,” their instructor says adding, “Our motto is…” Then, the young women reply in their dance, “When they go low, we go high/Raise our standards to the sky.” Hear, hear.
