Is One Direction Reuniting? Here's Why Everyone Is Convinced

If ever there was a time for some massively huge (and happy) music news, it’s right now—and we may just be getting it by way of a One Direction reunion.

At least, that’s what fans think based on some recent internet and social media activity surrounding Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Liam Payne. While the evidence is fairly circumstantial at the moment and no member of the group has commented directly about an upcoming reunion, fans certainly have a case.

For the uninitiated, One Direction officially formed as part of the U.K.’s X Factor on July 23, 2010, so they have a big 10-year anniversary coming up. One Direction started disassembling when Malik split from the rest of the boy band in March 2015. The remaining four continued without him and went on to release more new music, though they eventually went on a hiatus in January 2016 that then extended to a full-on ending of the group as we knew it…perhaps until now.

One Directioners have never given up hope of a reunion. and now they have more evidence than ever before. “There’s still a long way to go and a lot of hurdles. Obviously, at the moment anything they do would have to be done virtually,” Page Six reported. “But there’s a lot of goodwill between them now and they want to make something happen.”

So let’s break down what exactly is going on:

New online activity

In early April, eagle-eyed fans noticed the official One Direction account, along with Styles, Payne, Horan, and Tomlinson, all started following Malik again. Sure, it’s a simple action—but in the modern world, following and unfollowing is a form of public currency.

E! also reports the One Direction website has been reactivated for the first time since the 2016 hiatus.

Twitter Seems Pretty Convinced That Ariana Grande's Dating Her 'Boyfriend' Collaborator, Mikey Foster

On Friday (August 2), Ariana Grande dropped her new song, “Boyfriend”, which she collaborated on with the band Social House. Along with it, she dropped a music video that portrays her and one of the group’s members, Mikey Foster, as love interests. It didn’t take long for the video, and the couple’s history of collaborating, to spark dating rumors—and now, people on Twitter are fully convinced the “Thank U, Next” singer has a new boyfriend.

Ahead of its release, Grande explained the concept behind the track on Twitter: “We wanted to make something uplifting that captures that feeling of being afraid to take the leap & trust, being afraid of being hurt or feeling like you won’t be enough for that person…but also how it feels to have a crippling crush on someone.”

“I feel like this song captures a common theme in the lives of so many people i know! People want to feel love but don’t want to define their relationship & have trouble fully committing or trusting or allowing themselves to fully love someone. even tho they want to,” she added in a second tweet.

“Boyfriend” isn’t the first time the two have worked together professionally: They also collaborated on “7 Rings” and “Thank U, Next,” with Foster and his bandmate Scootie Anderson producing and co-writing the tracks with Grande.

Despite their professional history—or partly because of it—a lot of fans seem to think “Boyfriend” is actually about her relationship with the singer. The two are currently on the road together too: Social House is touring with Grande at the moment.

Fans were also quick to point out that Foster posted a heartfelt tribute to the pop star on her birthday in June.

Fans Are Convinced Miley Cyrus' Heartbreaking New Song Is About Liam Hemsworth

Miley Cyrus dropped her highly-anticipated EP She Is Coming on Friday, May 31, and there’s a lot to love about it. “Cattitude” featuring RuPaul is already my summer vibe; literally everyone can relate to “Unholy”; and “Mother’s Daughter” really is that bop.

But there’s one song on the EP that has the attention of Cyrus’ entire fandom: “The Most.” By far the chillest track of the bunch, the song shows Cyrus at her most vulnerable. “This winter was as cold as you and I/I know you’re home, hoping I’m alright/How many times have I left you in the deep?/I don’t know why you still believe in me,” she sings toward the song’s beginning. And the chorus is even more heartbreaking: “So why do I hurt you so? Is it ’cause I know?/Why do I hurt you so? Is it ’cause you love me the most?”

It’s a love song—and a sad one at that—which is why people are convinced the subject is Liam Hemsworth. Thematically, Cyrus tackles the concept of not understanding why a partner wants to be with her. “Even in my darkest days, even in my lowest place/You love me the most/And even when I can’t stay, even when I run away/You love me the most,” she sings. Whoever Cyrus is talking about, their love for her seems pretty unconditional—hence why, again, Twitter thinks the song is about her famous husband.

But don’t take my word for it. Listen to the song for yourself, below, and form your own opinions.

Here are just a few reactions fans have posted to Twitter:

Miley Cyrus wrote a tribute to Hemsworth for his birthday back in February that has a similar vibe to the lyrics in this song. “I love going to a random party and remembering basically everyone is fake AF out here and how lucky I am to share a life with someone so REAL. I love the way you always listen & the way that you care,” she wrote on Instagram. “I love how you let ME be ME.”

Fans Are Convinced Ariana Grande Will Perform With 'NSync at Coachella

Ariana Grande is set to perform as the youngest-ever headliner at the 2019 Coachella Valley Music and Arts festival tonight (April 14) in Indio, California. But there might be another surprise in store: Very excited, eagle-eyed fans are theorizing that four members of ‘NSync (Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, and JC Chasez) are set to join her on stage.

They’re drawing their conclusions from two different ‘NSync-themed videos the “Sweetener” singer recently posted to her Twitter account after TMZ published a report that seems to confirm a vague “collaboration” that’s “definitely” set to take place on Sunday.

On April 11, Grande shared throwback footage of her younger self and her mother, Joan Grande, at a late-‘90s ‘NSync concert. A young Grande and her mother are seen singing along to the boy band’s hit song “It Makes Me Ill.”

Then, just one hour later, the Grammy award winner posted a second video to her account with the caption, “the best medicine 90s baby.” In the 9- second clip, a present day Grande lip-syncs and dances to the group’s hit single “Tearin’ Up My Heart” with a gigantic smile on her face.

There’s been no actual confirmation from the festival or either of the performers’ reps, so it’s still unclear exactly what’s going on. However, her manager Scooter Braun has definitely been adding fuel to the fire ahead of her set.

Braun tweeted, “Coachella you have no idea what’s coming!” Then he responded to her throwback video writing, “Little Ari and Nsync :)”

And as recently as this morning Braun’s been teasing tonight’s concert.

To top it all off, a fan noticed that ‘NSync member JC Chasez started following Ariana on Instagram last night.

If this surprise collaboration does go down tonight—and only time will tell at this point—it will be the first time ‘NSync has performed as a band since 2013. But we’ll start looking for our old concert T-shirts, just in case.

Taylor Swift Fans Are Convinced Her New Music Will Be About Mermaids

There’s nothing Taylor Swift seems to love more than dropping hints to fans about her music. She’s been known to hide cryptic messages and clues about her work just about everywhere in the time between album releases: Her clothes, her music video sets, even games of Scrabble. And according to some fans on Twitter, Swift’s not giving up that habit in 2019.

Just days after her Reputation stadium tour landed on Netflix, fans sounded the Easter egg alarm on Twitter. Apparently, Taylor Swift been using a handful of outfits during her Reputation promo to hint at the theme of her unconfirmed seventh album, with a surprising source of inspiration: mermaids.

Let’s take a look at the evidence.

Earlier this week Swift gathered her squad for a New Year’s Eve party where guests were asked to dress up as their childhood heroes. The singer dressed up as Ariel from The Little Mermaid, complete with a red wig and green tail. By itself, the look appears to be just an elaborate homage to the character—but fans say it’s more than that.

On Twitter, fans noted that mermaids have appeared in Swift’s wardrobe in suspicious places: As a patch on a jacket she wears in the official Reputation magazine, and on a T-shirt she wears in behind-the-scenes footage from the Reputation Netflix special. Take a look:

Fans also pointed out that The Little Mermaid has a special Swift-ian connection to the singer: The Little Mermaid was released the year of her birth, 1989. (Which, as fans know, was also the name of her fifth album.) Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not.

OK, so Swift has a long history with The Little Mermaid. But could she be singing about it on her album? Read into what mermaids symbolize and the theory gets even more convincing. Mermaids, according to one user, represent “freedom” and “independence.” Another added that Ariel transforms from a mermaid to a human in The Little Mermaid—so the seventh album could be about transformation. Fans are besides themselves about the possibility, natch.

Swift has been known to wear outfits with symbols alluding to her music. Her Reputation era has been marked by snake imagery on her costumes and in her music videos, referencing her feud with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. She even released a line of snake rings for fans to get in on the look.

She’s also hinted that new music—maybe or maybe not including mermaids—is on the way. On stage to accept the award for Best Pop/Rock Album at the American Music Awards in October, she suggested that a new chapter is in the works. “I always look at albums as chapters in my life,” she said. “And I’m so—to the fans, I’m so happy that you like this one. I’m so happy that this means that you like this one. But I have to be really honest with you about something: I’m even more excited about the next chapter.”

Then, in November she suggested on Instagram that she had signed a new record deal with Universal Music Group and Republic Records, posting a photo with UMG chairman/CEO Sir Lucian Grainge and Republic Records cofounder and CEO Monte Lipman. “My new home,” she captioned the picture.

Still, all the theories are just that—theories—until we receive confirmation from the singer. After all, fans have stood by theories that didn’t shake out before: Remember when we thought Reputation would be a time-themed album?

For all we know, Swift is just reconnecting with her childhood hero for the moment. We’ll have to wait until the seventh album officially appears to see if she’s been looking “Under the Sea” for inspiration.

Is Beyoncé Appearing on the 'Black Panther' Soundtrack? Fans Are Convinced

Beyoncé was not playing games with her fashion this weekend at the Grammys. She wore not one, not two, but three outfits over the course of the weekend that slew her fans to their core. And there was a common thread among all of them. For one, all three dresses she chose were black, but the tie was deeper than that: They each referenced, in some way, black panthers.

Let’s start with this first outfit, below. Flip through the post, and you’ll notice her earrings are shaped like panthers.

Now, for the look she rocked at the Clive Davis pre-Grammy gala on Saturday night: It’s head-to-toe black, with a curve silhouette that seems very pantherlike.

And, of course, there was this look from the actual Grammys ceremony. Beyoncé paired her all-black dress with a clutch shaped like—you guessed it—a panther.

So what does this all mean? Possibly nothing, but Beyoncé doesn’t do anything by accident. She gave several hints about Lemonade before it dropped, and fans think she’s suggesting something with these looks too: that she’s involved with the new Black Panther film in some way.

It makes sense, when you think about it. First off, the timing is right: Black Panther hits theaters nationwide on February 16, so Bey’s looks might be subtle ramp-up for the film. That said, it could also be a reference to the Black Panther Party: Bey reportedly paid homage to the Black Panthers during her 2016 Super Bowl halftime show appearance.

But fans think this means Bey makes an appearance on the upcoming Black Panther soundtrack, specifically, because the track list, save for two songs, is still unknown. Maybe Queen B appears multiple times on the soundtrack, like Kendrick Lamar. It’s certainly possible.

Here are just some of the fans who’re convinced Beyoncé is sending a Marvel message with her looks:

Fingers crossed this is true. There are a million reasons why this would be amazing, but the number-one is that we desperately need new Beyoncé music.
