Brad Pitt Played Dr. Fauci on Saturday Night Live and People Are Obsessed

When Dr. Anthony Fauci jokingly told reporters he’d like to be played by Brad Pitt on Saturday Night Live, do you think he expected his wish to come true? Well, that’s exactly what happened.

On April 10, CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota asked Fauci if he’d prefer being played by Ben Stiller or Pitt on the now-remote sketch show. “Oh Brad Pitt,” he said at the time. “Of course.”

Well, last night’s SNL at Home kicked off with a cold open starring the Oscar-winning actor portraying Fauci, perhaps the most prominent member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force.

“First I’d like to thank all the older women in America who have sent me supportive, inspiring, and sometimes graphic emails,” Pitt—donning a suit, grey wig, and wire glasses—began his “address.” The rest of the sketch was dedicated to translating what President Donald Trump really means when he speaks about the coronavirus. For example, when he said “everyone can get a test.”

“What he meant was: almost no one,” Pitt’s Fauci clarified in a very heavy Brooklyn accent, before responding to further incorrect comments by the president. “So yeah, I’m getting fired,” he says later in the sketch. “But until then, I’m gonna be there putting out the facts for whoever’s listening, and when I hear things like the virus can be cured if everyone takes the Tide Pod Challenge, I’ll be there to say, ‘Please don’t.'” Really. Please don’t.

In a very welcome move, Pitt chose to end his skit by removing his costume (just the wig and glasses, relax) and thanking Dr. Fauci and healthcare workers personally. “To the real Dr. Fauci, thank you for your calm and your clarity in this unnerving time,” Pitt said. “And thank you to the medical workers, first responders, and their families for being on the front line. And now, live…kinda…from all across America, it’s Saturday night.”

It would be an understatement to say that the skit was well-received online. “Brad Pitt playing Fauci on #SNL is only going to make him more of a sex symbol,” one user tweeted. “(Fauci, I mean. But it works both ways.)” Remember, Pitt was named People’s Sexiest Man Alive twice.

Here are some more reactions to the sketch:

Honestly, the only thing that could have made the sketch better would have been if Pitt wore a Fauci nametag

Saturday Night Live Is Returning This Saturday—Remotely

Saturday Night Live is coming back this Saturday, April 11…remotely.

Back in March, NBC announced that Saturday Night Live was halting production due to the coronavirus, but now it looks like all those Zoom parties and living room concerts have inspired the powers that be to bring back the sketch comedy program, even if they have to get a little scrappy about it.

On April 9, NBC released a statement that SNL at Home, a social-distancing version of the series during it’s normal 11:30 P.M. ET time slot, is coming—complete with Weekend Update and “original content” from the writers and cast that has been “remotely-produced.” So don’t worry, everyone is still staying home and there will be no live studio audience. Who else has a feeling things are gonna get weird?

But will all this “original content” be pre-taped, taking the “Live” out of Saturday Night Live? That remains to be seen. NBC has also remained mum on any celeb cameos or hosts.

Might we recommend John Krasinski, who has been hosting the Weekend Update-esque series Some Good News on his own YouTube channel? He was even scheduled to host SNL before all this craziness began. Just saying…

Krasinski even has a knack for getting big guest stars for Some Good News. On April 5, he posted the second episode of his broadcast with the entire cast of Hamilton and his wife Emily Blunt joining in to surprise a very excited 9-year-old, Aubrey, for her birthday. Aubrey was supposed to see Hamilton when the Broadway tour came to her hometown this week, but the show was canceled for social distancing reasons. Instead, her mom tweeted, they’d be watching Mary Poppins Returns.

Krasinski and Blunt saw the tweet and invited Aubrey to a Zoom meeting for her to meet Mary Poppins, who is played by Blunt in the film, but they didn’t stop there. After Krasinski offered to fly Aubrey into NYC to see Hamilton on Broadway when this is all over, Lin-Manuel Miranda and the entire original Broadway cast entered the chat to one-up the host and perform a song from the show. You can watch the whole thing below:

I personally would love to see Krasinski and Miranda face off on this weekend’s SNL, wouldn’t you?

Elizabeth Warren Made A Surprise Appearance on ‘Saturday Night Live’ — Twitter Reactions

Elizabeth Warren may have dropped out of the presidential race, but she returned to the spotlight on March 7 for the Saturday Night Live cold open.

During another coronavirus-related opening sketch, Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, played by Kate McKinnon, advises her viewers that the outbreak is an “urban legend—yes, I’m using ‘urban’ as a dog whistle,” and complains that criticism of President Donald Trump’s response to COVID-19 is the work of stark raving mad liberals.

After speaking to Jeanine Pirro (Cecily Strong), Donald Trump Jr. (Mikey Day) and Eric Trump (Alex Moffat), and Chris Matthews (Darrell Hammond), Ingraham patches in Elizabeth Warren to discuss her exit from the race…the actual Elizabeth Warren.

This skit is full of moments that Warren supporters will no doubt find enjoyable. When Ingrahm decides to roll tape of Warren pummeling Michael Bloomberg during the debates, she hits play on a recent viral video of Warren’s dog, Bailey, fighting staffers for a burrito. “Just to be clear, were you the dog or the burrito?” Ingraham asks.

“I was the dog,” Warren responds, to uproarious applauds by the live studio audience.

Warren added that she didn’t have any regrets about her presidential bid, especially because she got to give a billionaire a “swirlie on live TV.” The senator explains that she’s been practicing some self-care stepping down, which includes prank calling big banks, drag-racing Subarus, and staying off Twitter. The cold open then ended with McKinnon running into the room in full Warren gear, unwilling to miss the opportunity to thank her in person for her life’s work. “I’m not dead. I’m just in the Senate,” Warren replies. Watch the full sketch, below:

That’s not all. Having Warren on set at 30 Rock meant some behind-the-scenes antics with her impersonator.

The moment quickly made the rounds on Twitter, via Warren supporters and McKinnon enthusiasts, alike. U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who endorsed Bernie Sanders for president, even replied, “ok this is legendary.”

Here are some more reactions from the night:

Maybe Warren doesn’t need to avoid Twitter after all.

Scarlett Johansson Called Fiancé Colin Jost the 'Love of My Life' During Saturday Night Live

The biggest surprise on last night’s episode of Saturday Night Live wasn’t a special guest or an on-point sketch about the 2020 election. It was a moment that Scarlett Johansson, the evening’s host, shared with her fiancé and “Weekend Update” anchor Colin Jost during her opening monologue.

It was Johansson’s sixth time hosting the show—so she started off her monologue with some quips about her return to the Studio 8H. “If the show’s bad, what are the going to do? Fire my fiancé?” Johansson said. “Oh no! What will we do without his paycheck?”

Then, the monologue turned into a mini-Avengers installment, in which Pete Davidson made members of the cast disappear with “Infinity Stones.” At one point, Jost ran onstage to tell Johansson he’s okay, and she barely reacts. “I thought you’d be more relieved to see me!” Jost says. Johansson replies: “No, yeah. It’s great.”

After retrieving the other SNL cast members and ending Davidson’s reign of terror, Johansson’s monologue took a heartfelt turn. “I just want to say that this place means so much to me,” Johansson said, with Jost at her side. “I have so many friends here and I met the love of my life here.” She then gave Jost a quick kiss to applause from the audience.

You can watch her entire monologue below:

Johansson and Jost were first rumored to be an item when they were spotted engaging in PDA at an SNL wrap party in May 2017. Since then, they’ve only been spotted on a handful of red carpets together, including two Avengers premieres and the 2018 Met Gala. The couple confirmed their engagement to the Associated Press around two years later.

Johansson and Jost aren’t known for opening up about their relationship—hence the surprise at their on-air moment. The few times Johansson has spoken about her soon-to-be husband, though, indicate how happy the two are together. “It was surprising; he’s got a lot behind that news desk he’s hiding,” she said about Jost in an interview with People. “He’s very charming and very thoughtful and romantic.”

Johansson has been married two times previously: first to actor Ryan Reynolds, and then to French journalist Romain Dauriac. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the actor said she’s matured since her first marriage. “I feel like I’m in a place in my life, I feel I’m able to make more active choices,” she said. “I’m more present, I think, than I’ve been before.”

Leslie Jones Best Saturday Night Live Moments

Bad news, people: It was confirmed today (August 27) by multiple outlets that Leslie Jones is not returning to Saturday Night Live. The comedian made her debut as a cast member back in 2014, having previously working as a writer on the show.

Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that Jones opted to depart from the long-running series so she could work on her upcoming movie projects and Netflix special. Her absence will be palpable this upcoming season—especially during the “Weekend Update” segments, where she first gained a following.

And that following only grew with each season. After more than six years on the show, Leslie Jones has cemented herself as a Saturday Night Live icon, offering up top-notch impressions, hilarious bits, and even poignant commentary at times. Below, we explore 10 of her most memorable moments.

“You can’t control women,” Jones said during a segment of “Weekend Update.” “Because, I don’t know if y’all heard, but women are the same as humans. And I’m Leslie ‘Dracarys’ Jones! Why do all of these weird-ass men care what women do with their bodies?”

Jones and Game of Thrones‘ Peter Dinklage filmed a parody of this hit Discovery Channel series a few years back, and it’s way funnier (and more intense) than the actual show.

Emma Thompson also appeared in this sketch as an etiquette coach preparing Jones’ character to attend Baby Archie’s christening. Let’s just say things didn’t go according to plan.

A duo like no other.

Her vocal impression alone deserves 2,000 Emmys.

Alec Baldwin is shaking.

In this “Weekend Update” segment, Colin Jost and Michael Che hypothetically cut Jones’ impression of Williams, so she takes matters into her own hands—by showing up to the set dressed as the tennis champ.

Had Jones actually starred in that remake a few years back, maybe the reviews would’ve been better.

The two of them recreating the cow bell sketch would’ve been pure gold.

An Explosive Fire Erupted at the Coachella Campground Early Saturday Morning

A large fire broke out at Coachella around 2 A.M. PST Saturday morning, following the first night of the music festival. Festivalgoers say they heard explosions and noticed that a mobile shower area had gone up in flames, with one camper reportedly fleeing from the area in his towel and calling on others to get out.

The Riverside County Fire Department responded quickly, blocking off the area and making sure everyone was safe. They contained the fire by 2:28 A.M, according to their Twitter. The Evening Standard reports that the festival sent out an alert to campers telling them to “STAY AWAY” (emphasis Coachella’s) from the burning showers in lot 4B.

As of 9 A.M. EST, no injuries have been reported, thankfully, although the footage captured by those at the festival definitely looks terrifying.

According to the fire department, there were two mobile shower trailers involved, one of which was “damaged” and the other “destroyed.”

It’s still TBD exactly what caused the fire, though some festivalgoers seem to think it was a propane tank near the shower block.

We’ll update this post as we know more.
