VMAs 2018: Pete Davidson’s Bracelet Is an Adorable Tribute to Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson aren’t shy about making public proclamations of love for each other. From matching tattoos to an endless array of Instagram PDAs, the two really want the world to know exactly how they feel about one another. So it’s no surprise that the newly engaged duo went all out for their red-carpet debut at Monday’s MTV VMAs 2018.

Fans who were able to take their eyes off the couple’s non-stop love fest noticed an intriguing detail on Davidson’s bracelet: small beads that listed the initials “AGD.” If you’ve been following the romantic chronicles of Pete and Ariana, you’ll recognize that those initials stand for Ariana Grande-Davidson, which as Ariana revealed in a recent interview, will be her initials after they’re married.

“Yeah, [I’m going to hyphenate it to Ariana Grande-Davidson],” Grande told Ebro Darden during a Beats 1 interview on Friday. So what does that mean for her stage name? As it turns out, Grande’s put a lot of thought into that too. “I don’t know. I feel like I’d eventually like to be just Ariana,” she added. “Isn’t that sick? I feel like it’s got a ring to it. But also Grande, I have to keep Grande because of my grandpa. I think of him with everything I do in it, and he was so proud of our name … I’m going keep it. Never mind. We’ll talk later. I have a lot of decisions to make.”

One decision that she has made is the timeline for her upcoming nuptials. While some fans might suggest that Pete’s bracelet means the couple has already tied the knot, Ariana made it clear that their wedding is still over five months away. “Less than five: Years? Yeah,” Grande said. “Months more, years less.”

Early in the show, Ariana had already picked up the award for Best Pop Video for her hit single “No Tears Left to Cry,” using the opportunity to tell Pete how she feels about him. “Thank you for existing,” she said.

The Obamas Just Published a Beautiful Tribute to Aretha Franklin

Aretha Franklin, the undisputed Queen of Soul, passed away on Thursday (August 16) after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Several public figures have paid tribute to Franklin on social media, and now Barack and Michelle Obama are adding their voices to the chorus. If you remember, the trio enjoyed a well-publicized friendship while Obama was still in the White House. It began with Franklin putting on a show-stopping, cry-your-eyes-out performance at his first presidential inauguration.

“American has no royalty. But we do have a chance to earn something more enduring,” the Obamas wrote in a statement obtained by TMZ. “Born in Memphis and raised in Detroit, Aretha Franklin grew up performing gospel songs in her father’s congregation. For more than six decades since, every time she sang, we were all graced with a glimpse of the divine. Through her compositions and unmatched musicianship, Aretha helped define the American experience. In her voice, we could feel out history, all of it and in every shade — our power and our pain, our darkness and our light, our quest for redemption and our hard-won respect. She helped us feel more connected to each other, more hopeful, more human. And sometimes she helped us just forget about everything else and dance. Aretha may have passed on to a better place, but the gift of her music remains to inspire us all. May the Queen of Soul rest in eternal peace. Michelle and I send our prayers and warmest sympathies to her family and all those moved by her song.”

Obama also released an additional tweet with some of his favorite White House photos of Franklin. “Aretha helped define the American experience,” he added. “In her voice, we could feel our history, all of it and in every shade — our power and our pain, our darkness and our light, our quest for redemption and our hard-won respect. May the Queen of Soul rest in eternal peace.” Michelle added: “She will forever be our Queen of Soul.”

Cardi B Has Given Birth to a Baby Girl—and Her Name Is a Tribute to Offset

Cardi B, record-breaking rapper and relatable fashion icon, just confirmed the birth of her daughter via Instagram this morning (July 11).

According to TMZ, the little girl was born last night, on July 10, in an Atlanta hospital. Cardi’s husband, Offset, was by her side. Fans started to become suspicious that Cardi was in labor after the star—who is usually very active on social media—went conspicuously absent. As one user wrote on Twitter, “I bet cardi b is having her baby because she hasn’t been on social media all day ?.”

So naturally, Cardi turned to social media when it was time to announce her daughter’s arrival via an image of her while pregnant and surrounded by flowers. While she didn’t post a photo of the little one yet, she did reveal her daughter’s name: Kulture Kiari Cephus.

It seems Cardi and Offset, who were secretly married in September, were thinking of family with the choice. Offset’s given name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus. It’s possible the name is also a tribute to Offset’s rap trio Migos, who released two successful albums titled Culture and Culture II.

The rapper confirmed her pregnancy in true Cardi style during a live performance on Saturday Night Live in a custom Christian Siriano dress that showed off her baby bump. Since then, we’ve watched her hit the Met Gala red carpet, become the first female rapper to have two number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100, and clap back at people who said her career was over because she was having a baby. Just the day before Kulture was born, she was showing off baby gifts on her Instagram Stories.

Fans are celebrating Kulture’s arrival on social media—and analyzing her name, of course.

“Lissen, Cardi B’s name is Belcalis Marlenis Almanza and Offset’s name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus,” wrote one user. “They couldn’t just name their baby Jennifer. I’m here for extra spicy, Hogwarts spell-ass names. Welcome to the world, Kulture!”

Another commented, “I guess they’re really doing it for the culture now.”

While some are already ready for Baby #2.

Big congrats to Cardi and Offset! Now we wait for baby Kulture’s public debut—knowing Cardi, it’ll be iconic.

Prince Harry Bought Prince Louis a $10,000 Christening Gift as a Tribute to Princess Diana

His Royal Highness Prince Louis Arthur Charles of Cambridge may be only 2 months old, but it looks as though he’s already living like a royal a.k.a. receiving gifts that cost thousands of dollars. The tiniest Windsor is being christened on Monday, July 9—and to celebrate the occasion, Prince Harry, his uncle, reportedly dropped £8,000 (that’s around $10,620) on a first-edition Winnie-the-Pooh book. (No word yet whether or not Meghan Markle added her name to her husband’s present, though she’s reportedly an excellent gift giver herself.)

According to The Sun, the price tag was originally even higher. An unnamed source told the publication that Prince Harry had initially planned to get Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking-Glass, “on sale” for £24,000 (almost $32,000), but “decided Winnie-the-Pooh would be more suitable for a first tome.”

Why spend thousands on a book for a baby who can’t even read yet? According to The Sun, it’s a tribute to Princess Diana. “One of Harry’s happiest childhood memories was being read a bedtime story by his mother,” the source said. “She loved all the old classics, and Harry had the brilliant idea of starting a little library of first editions for Louis, Charlotte, and George to enjoy as they get older.”

This inaugural first edition, according to The Sun, is one of 30,000 that were published way back in 1926.

As for Prince Louis’s christening, it will be performed by Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, the same bishop who christened Prince George and Princess Charlotte. The ceremony will also take place in the same church as Prince George’s christening, the Chapel Royal at St. James’s Palace, for an audience of 20 to 30 people. That exclusive guest list includes Louis’ six godparents, all close friends and family of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Prince Harry, however, was not asked to be Louis’ godfather. Then again, after such a generous gift maybe William and Kate will change their minds?

Taylor Swift Pays Tribute to All the Female Artists Who Inspire Her at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards

Taylor Swift has been missing in action from the awards show scene in recent years, so her surprise appearance at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards was noteworthy in and of itself. And as soon as she took her seat in the front row (in between bestie Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes), it was as if she never left: Swift resumed her corny dance moves, shameless lip-synching, and award-winning habits in no time—and delivered a moving speech that honored female artists both past and present. All in a night’s work.

When Swift took the stage to accept the Billboard Music Award for Top Female Artist—her 22nd BBMA, the most in Billboard history—she used the opportunity to honor her fellow female artists rather than her own successes.

“I haven’t been to an awards show in a few years and it is so nice to be here tonight,” Swift began her acceptance speech. “And it is so nice to receive female artist. I’m on an all-female artist stadium tour right now, so I have to start out by saying thank you to my tour mates Charli XCX and Camila Cabello.” (Insert sweet bestie moment with Cabello standing, cheering, and waving for her “Reputation” tour mate.)

Swift then went on to pay tribute to the women artists of the past, present, and future, thanking them for trailblazing a path and providing inspiration for herself and countless others. “I want to thank all the artists, all the female artists who paved the way for us to get to do what we do, the way we get to do it,” she said. “All the new artists, the new female artists, who are killing it right now—we are so inspired by you. And shoutout to the future female artists who just picked up a guitar and learned how to play piano.”

Watch her speech, below:

Later in the night, after she won Top Selling Album, Taylor thanked her fans. “You guys, when I started writing songs when I was 12, I started writing songs because it made me feel more understood,” she said. “When I was making Reputation, this album, for a while there I was feeling really misunderstood by a lot of people. So I want to say to the fans, thank you for continuing to show up. We just started our tour last week and the ways that you’ve cared about me and the ways that you’ve treated me—thank you for making me feel understood again.”

Priyanka Chopra Calls Meghan Markle a ‘Princess for the People’ in Touching Tribute

Priyanka Chopra has talked openly about her friendship with Meghan Markle in the past. In fact, she was one of the first people to defend Markle when people started referring to her as simply “Prince Harry’s girlfriend.” There’s talk Chopra may even be a bridesmaid in Markle’s upcoming wedding, though that’s unconfirmed at this point. Regardless, these women are tight. I mean, they saw Hamilton on Broadway together—and that experience bonds you for life.

So it’s only fitting Chopra wrote a little something about Markle after the soon-to-be-royal was named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People (which also includes Prince Harry, by the way.) What Chopra wrote isn’t very long, but it does express the warm affection she has for her good friend. “Somewhere among biryani, poutine and endless conversations, I realized just how deeply Meghan Markle cares for the world,” Chopra wrote for Time. “With her, what you see is real, and what you get is a relatable young woman with her heart and mind in the right place.”

Chopra said Markle has a natural drive and compassion that will “connect her to a generation in much need of kindness.” She briefly touched on the former Suits star’s philanthropic work and noted how she continues to smash stereotypes, both in the royal family and beyond.

Of course, the Quantico actress did make a nod to Prince Harry. “This ever-smiling, strong free spirit found her prince, fell in love and in turn made a cynical world believe in fairy tales again,” Chopra wrote. “But more than anything else, Meghan is an important influencer in a world that needs strong public figures to respect and look up to.”

How Chopra ended her tribute to Markle may or may not make you cry. (I’m low-key sniffling, but don’t judge me because I also cry at, like, movie trailers.) “Meghan, standing shoulder to shoulder with Harry, will be a princess for the people,” Chopra wrote, and then concluded with, “Love always, my friend. Live happily ever after.”

And cue the water works. Chopra should 2,000 percent recite this blurb, verbatim, at Markle and Prince Harry’s reception on May 19.
