No, Kim Kardashian Did Not Gift Daughter North West JFK's Blood-Stained Shirt for Christmas

Kim Kardashian is having to set the record straight after reports surfaced that she bought former President John F. Kennedy‘s blood-stained shirt for daughter North West as a Christmas gift.

The rumor all started after the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star revealed she and husband Kanye West purchased two items of clothing once worn by Michael Jackson as holiday gifts for their six-year-old child.

According to E! News, they picked up the late singer’s bejeweled velvet jacket, which he famously wore to Elizabeth Taylor’s 65th birthday in 1997, as well as the white fedora he wore in his “Smooth Criminal” music video in 1988 through Julien’s Auction House.

“North is a really big Michael Jackson fan,” Kardashian told fans in one of her Instagram Stories. “We knew she would love this.” She added: “She’s so grateful and excited.”

The reality star also bought rings that once belonged to Elvis Presley for her brother Rob Kardashian.

But social media users began turning Kardashian’s Christmas gifts into a meme, claiming she and West also purchased other ludicrous items for their daughter. Some Twitter users went as far to Photoshop fake pictures making it seem the couple also bought the exact same shirt JFK was wearing when he was assassinated while riding in his motorcade in Dallas, Texas, in 1963.

One photoshopped image made it look as if Kardashian had posted “the gift” to her Instagram Story with the caption, “Along with the Michael Jackson’s jacket and hat, North also got the shirt John F. Kennedy wore when he was assassinated.” Media outlets began picking up the story on December 30, assuming the gift was real, which again prompted fans on Twitter to circulate and react to the story.

Eventually the Skims founder was prompted to respond to the “obviously fake” news.

“That is a sick joke that someone tweeted as a fake ig story that I never posted,” Kim tweeted. (One of the media outlets who originally reported it, Refinery29, has since removed the image and the excerpt about the bloodied shirt from its original article.)

Give Yourself the Gift of Staying in on New Year’s Eve

We’re living in a renaissance of fancy sheets and cutting-edge mattresses. Nearly every hour of entertainment ever recorded is streamable. New Year’s Eve is a day away, and between scented candle culture and smoke alarms, it’s easier than ever to light a fire inside your house without risking death. Coziness is queen.

As the last days of 2019 are upon us, the question is not “Should you stay home on New Year’s Eve?” but rather—Why does anyone ever go out on New Year’s Eve?

In the coldest, darkest time of the year, humans feel compelled to manufacture light. We set off fireworks, string twinkle lights, light candles, build bonfires, throw sparklers, hang disco balls, and peer into each other’s eyes. Everything in nature is dead, but we’re not, and we want physical proof that we’re vital and alive and staring down another year together.

We go to parties, bars and clubs on December 31 seeking that feeling of the relief and ecstasy at being alive. But the sense comfort, safety, and joy that come from staying in on New Year’s Eve is just as fitting. The main activities of New Year’s Eve: drinking, thinking about stuff, and waiting, actually do not demand that you leave your house. You can, of course. But just know—you don’t have to.

Inside: radiators, candles, blankets, $12.99 wine from Trader Joe’s.
Outside: Seventeen-dollar mixed drinks, a sticky-looking man-boy named Kyle who sidles up to you and says, “You seem feisty!”

Inside: People you invited, music you chose, toilets whose cleanliness you can vouch for personally.
Outside: A woman in a sequined mini sits on a curb sobbing, pausing to hiccup.

“I actually usually stay at home because I find the expectation of the night too overwhelming,” says Nicole, a 29-year-old who lives in the UK. “The fact that everybody is out and trying to find the perfect party is really anxiety inducing for me.” Instead, she’ll drink, dance, and watch the ball drop at home, with family. “Sounds boring maybe, but at least I know I won’t be fighting my anxiety in overcrowded spaces,” she says. “And at the end of the day I am spending it with people I love in a chill way.”

'I'm A Wellness Editor—Here's Everything on My Gift List This Year'

I have an obsession with finding the perfect gift for everyone on my list each year. We all give and get so many things none of us will really use that I get a particular sense of gratification in finding gifts that my loved ones need, love, and are more perfect than they even thought to ask for. (And if I’m being really honest, I also love the sense of utter satisfaction that comes from knowing you completely crushed that Secret Santa—competitive scorpios, in the house!)

Being a wellness editor, my definition of the perfect gift often includes some aspect that makes us feel happier and healthier as humans. Whether that’s an on-the-go pack of essential oils that can help with everything from a headache to anxiety or a pair of sneakers that look just as sick at the office as they do in the gym. These 13 items are the favorites on my gift list this year—I’ll definitely be getting a few of them for myself.
