Simone Biles Fires Back at USA Gymnastics' Happy Birthday Tweet By Asking for An ‘Independent Investigation’


Simone Biles, one of the greatest athletes of all time, turned 23 years old this Saturday, March 14. On Instagram, Biles shared a sweet snap with fans saying she was excited and “ready for my Jordan year!”

To honor the Olympian, USA Gymnastics also sent a tweet to the star (though they tagged the wrong account) saying, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the most decorated gymnast of all time, @simonebiles! We know you will only continue to amaze us and make history!”

However, Biles wasn’t amused by the tribute from the organization that recently offered a settlement to athletes who have sued the organization over sexual abuse suffered at the hands of sports doctor Larry Nassar. In response to the tweet, Biles fired back with a birthday request. “How about you amaze me and do the right thing…have an independent investigation,” she tweeted.

This isn’t the first time Biles has requested the organization take further action. In February, following USA Gymnastics’ announcement that it will give $215 million to sexual assault survivors in an effort to settle lawsuits over its failure to protect them from Nassar, Biles tweeted that more needed to be done.

“Ugh at the airport,” she tweeted. “Heading to team camp. Still want answers from USAG and USOPC. Wish they BOTH wanted an independent investigation as much as the survivors & I do. Anxiety high. Hard not to think about everything that I DON’T WANT TO THINK ABOUT!!! “

As of Sunday, her tweet had more than 428,000 likes and fellow gymnastics Olympian Aly Raisman took to Instagram to praise her teammate. “This. Is. AWESOME. @simonebiles I love you!!!!” Raisman wrote in the caption of a screenshot of Biles’ tweet.

Biles, who shared that she was also abused by Nassar, isn’t alone in calling out the need for an independent investigation. In 2019, a bipartisan Senate committee announced at the conclusion of its own 18-month investigation that both USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee “knowingly concealed abuse by Larry Nassar, leading to the abuse of dozens of additional amateur athletes from summer 2015 to September 2016.” The report added, the organizations and Michigan State had a chance to stop Nassar and “failed to do so.”

Following the investigation’s rulings, and just prior to competing in the 2019 U.S. Gymnastics Championships, Biles told reporters, “They couldn’t do one damn job. You had one job. You literally had one job, and you couldn’t protect us. And it’s just really sad because every time I go to the doctor or training, I get worked on and I don’t want to get worked on, but my body hurts. I’m 22. At the end of the day, that’s my fifth rotation, and I have to go do therapy, but it’s just hard, and we try to work through it, but it’ll take some time.

She added, “I’m strong, I’ll get through it, but it’s hard.”

Kate Middleton Is Reportedly ‘So Happy’ To Have More Royal Duties


If we’re to believe recent reports, Kate Middleton hasn’t taken Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to step back from the royal family lightly.

According to various outlets, Kate has been worried about staying close with Harry and concerned that her children won’t get to see enough of their cousin Archie. But if there’s one silver lining to all of this, it’s that Kate is reportedly “so happy” to have a more prominent voice in royal charity work and the goals of the Royal Foundation, an organization she can play a bigger role in now that Harry and Meghan have moved to Canada.

Insiders spoke to The Sun—so, take it with a grain of salt—and said that the Duchess of Cambridge is jumping into her duties with tons of enthusiasm. She’s been on a tour of the U.K. promoting early childhood development and even opened up about her experiences as a parent, which give insight into how she might steer other initiatives the Royal Foundation tackles.

“Kate is extremely passionate about the work the Foundation does and she has ideas and plans for how she believes it can be used to help some of the causes which she is particularly passionate about,” a source told The Sun. “In recent weeks Kate has visited a lot of organizations and spoke to lots of experts and has soaked a lot of information. She wants to use that to go out and bring about change to many of those who need support.”

Previously, the Royal Foundation was a joint effort between William and Harry, and it represented causes they both felt strongly about. Kate joined when she married William, and Meghan began a part of the organization a few years later, which meant there were a lot of interests to balance.

“For years the Foundation’s work was a bit of a tug of war between what William and Harry wanted. Harry was very much focused on the military and his work with the Invictus Games,” the source said. “Now, it is purely in the shape of how William and Kate want it to be.”

Kate Middleton’s expanding work at the Royal Foundation is reflective of how she’s come into her own in recent years—something even Queen Elizabeth is said to be proud of. It’s all shows how she is preparing to take the lead in the monarchy one day.

“She is an adoring mother, and she is contributing publicly in the way we would want her to,” a source told People last September. “You see it more and more. The young student has turned into our future Queen.”

The power couple rang in 2020 at a party with all of their children. Obviously, it was super glam.

Lo also posted a retrospective video looking back at all the happened in 2019—from her engagement to Hustlers. “2019… it’s the last day of a decade… wow… when I think back to 2010… and think of all the things that happened between now and then I smile softly and contently on the inside… because even though some of the tougher moments popped into my head first, I realize I survived them all and they led me into the best time of my life so far,” she wrote on Instagram. “I honestly wouldn’t change a thing…I feel stronger and more at peace with who I am now than I ever have… I hope that you all can look back in the same way and enjoy every moment of your journey. Jennifer Lopez Asked Ruth Bader Ginsburg for the Secret to a Happy Marriage


While it’s still TBD on when Jennifer Lopez is officially tying the knot with fiancé Alex Rodriguez, there’s no doubt we’re excited for what’s sure to be a glamorous day. Although wedding preparations might be underway (or at least ideating—J.Lo did just wrap a tour, after all), J.Lo definitely has the upcoming nuptials on her mind. How do we know? She reportedly recently asked Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg for marriage advice—and you can bet The Notorious RBG knew exactly what to say.

Ginsburg told the story herself at the Library of Congress’s National Book Festival in Washington, D.C. this weekend. Apparently J.Lo called her up casually and they wound up hanging out with Ginsburg at her office.

“I was called up about a month or so ago by Jennifer Lopez, and she said she would like to meet me and introduce her fiancé Alex Rodriguez,” she said. “So they came to chambers, and we had a very nice visit. She mostly wanted to ask if I had any secret about a happy marriage. But now ARod is traveling with her to concerts all over the world…”

The interviewer at the panel discussion Ginsburg was recounting this at asked Ginsburg, “So what was your secret to a happy marriage? Did you pass on your mother-in-law’s secret?”

“Yeah, on the day I was married, my mother in law took me aside and said she wanted to tell me what was the secret of a happy marriage,” Ginsburg responded. “And I said I’d be glad to hear what is it, and she responded it helps sometimes to be a little deaf.”

I mean, not gonna knock it! And Ginsburg should know: She paved the way as a groundbreaking, hugely dedicated justice while maintaining a marriage to husband Marty Ginsburg for more than 50 years (he died in 2010).

With a dash of her dry humor, Ginsburg also added that her advice works in a few other contexts, namely “every workplace, including the good job I have now.”

As a quick refresh, A-Rod proposed back in March while the two were vacationing in the Bahamas with an absolute whopper of an emerald-cut diamond. The moment was captured perfectly on Instagram:

Since then, the two have been living it up: J.Lo recently celebrated her epic 50th birthday with an epically over-the-top party at Gloria and Emilio Estefan’s estate on Star Island in Miami, as one does.

Lopez soon reciprocated the birthday affection with a fun surprise for A-Rod, who turned 44 toward the end of July: She and his two daughters surprised him during an ESPN appearance.

Then, she pulled him onstage during her Miami concert to sing him “Happy Birthday,” complete with a massive Yankees-themed cake.

Clearly, these two are pros at making things work with their insanely busy schedules—but getting a little extra advice from The Notorious RBG, who has put in years of work both on the bench and back home with her husband? Definitely can’t hurt.

People Are Not Happy Big Little Lies Cut This Infamous Ice Cream Scene


We’re now five episodes deep in season two of Big Little Lies, and the lies are finally clawing their way to the surface. But you know what didn’t claw its way to the surface? The infamous ice cream cone scene, which was cut from last night’s episode.

Remember last year when photos of Reese Witherspoon launching an ice cream at Meryl Streep’s back tore through the Internet? Who wouldn’t? I mean, when an Academy Award-winning actor throws dessert at another Academy Award-winning actor, the world tunes in. In fact, I shouldn’t be asking if you remember those photos. I should be asking: Where were you when photos of Reese Witherspoon throwing an ice cream cone at Meryl Streep hit the internet?

I was excited to see how it would all unfold on Big Little Lies—but unfortunately, the highly-anticipated scene aired during last night’s episode and ends with Madeline (Witherspoon) simply leering at Mary Louise (Streep) while clutching her cone with a vice-grip. Yes, reader: HBO actually cut the cone throw. And now I have nothing.

I have over a decade left on paying off my student loans. I have a credit card bill that’s skyrocketing with no end in sight. I can barely afford to keep my healthcare. I endured a 6.9 earthquake this weekend that made me slither into my Amazon Prime cart and slam the purchase button on a pair of emergency radios. I’m just about prepped and ready for the apocalypse. In other words, I have one thing that I look forward to every week: watching Academy-Award winning women glare at their onscreen husbands on Sunday nights. I’d hoped the ice cream cone throw could bolster my spirits for at least a month; now, this injustice has made me do a lot of thinking.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Want Archie's Christening to Be Private—and People Aren't Happy About It


Baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s son, is reportedly set to have his christening this Saturday, July 6, and it will take place at a special location for the family: Queen Elizabeth’s private chapel in Windsor Castle.

People reports that it will be a low-key affair at Windsor Castle, near the family’s newly-renovated Frogmore Cottage home. A royal source said the couple “wanted an intimate, peaceful setting in a place with such a special connection to Her Majesty.” That’s not the only connection: The couple famously married at the larger St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

The timing of Archie’s christening—at around two months old—is in line with Kate Middleton and Prince William’s children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. However, reports claim that Archie’s may be less public than those of his cousins.

“This is a beautiful milestone and they are excited to share it as a family first and then with the world,” People‘s source said. The event will reportedly only include about 25 close friends and family members with images being released to the public afterward. Hello! reports that Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles, and Markle’s mom, Doria Ragland, are set to attend.

Given how Markle and Harry have chosen to make announcements about Archie, it’s a fairly safe bet to assume they will use their @SussexRoyal Instagram account in some way.

During Prince Louis’s christening, the press was allowed to film the family and guests entering and leaving the ceremony, but that will apparently not be the case for Archie, which has caused some debate online and in the British press.

Team Sussex fans on social media were quick to defend the couple’s choice for privacy, citing the treatment of Markle in British papers. “Dear Archie, we trash talk your mummy EVERYDAY so please can we have access to your christening so we can trash talk her choices for you, her fashion, your god parents, critique her body language and basically trash talk her existence, love (not really) The Daily Mail xoxo,” one person wrote on Twitter. “British press is just bitter that they can’t profit off of Meghan and Harry christening Archie in private. That is all,” another tweeted.

Little Archie is expected to wear the replica of Princess Victoria’s christening gown, just like his cousins. We can’t wait to see what adorable photos Markle and Harry choose to release.
