'Riverdale' Fans Are Not Happy About Archie and Betty Possibly Hooking Up

Last night’s Riverdale episode was probably traumatic for “Bughead” and “Varchie” shippers because both couples ended things on sour notes. After Archie told Veronica “I love you” and she didn’t say it back, the two had a heated spat that ended with Veronica tearfully getting into a car and driving away. Meanwhile, Jughead was royally pissed at Betty for doing that stripper dance at the White Wyrm to become a Serpent. He wants her to stay as far away from that world as possible, and they quasi broke up—for what seems like the fifth time—after their own fight. It was an emotional final five minutes, to say the least.

And it only got crazier at the very end: The final shot of the episode showed a shirtless (of course) Archie staring wistfully at Betty through his bedroom window. She stares back at him, too, and the implication here is that they’re going to get together—or, at the very least, revisit some latent feelings. Yes, my friends, it seems like “Barchie”—Betty and Archie—is about to make an appearance on Riverdale.

Fans aren’t happy about it, though. The social media response to Betty and Archie’s thirsty stare-off has been, surprisingly, very charged and angry. Yes, there are some fans who’ve been shipping Betty and Archie since the beginning, but the majority of them see this relationship as a step backwards. For them, Betty and Archie had their chance in season one, but that ship has sailed now. Too much work has gone into establishing “Varchie” and “Bughead” for those relationships to just disappear. Here are the most, erm, spirited reactions we found to this Betty and Archie nonsense:

Of course, it’s possible Betty and Archie won’t hook up at all. Riverdale is notorious for its ambiguous cliffhangers, so we could be creating something out of nothing. We’ll have to tune into next week’s episode to find out for sure, though. Get your ponytails ready.

Homelessness Was This Teenager's Biggest Secret, But Her Incredible Story Has a Happy Ending

Every year, 600,000 families with 1.3 million children experience homelessness in the United States. That’s a staggering number. Under such heartbreaking circumstances, no one would fault children dealing with homelessness for feeling despair that impacts their relationships, drive and performance in school. But Angelique didn’t succumb to any of that.

Her story is one that can inspire both compassion and support from those not directly touched by homelessness, and serve as a powerful message to the 600,000 families dealing with homelessness: they can get through it.

Angelique’s mother, Leigh, suffers from depression and bipolar disorder, which have made it difficult for her to maintain a steady income. Angelique’s father, originally from Nigeria, lives in California. Now 18, Angelique, Leigh, and Leigh’s mother lived in their car for 8 months when Angelique was 13, and Angelique still managed to maintain straight As during this period.

Rather than making her angry or leaving her feeling defeated, Angelique’s past (and current struggles as a result of her mother’s ongoing battle with bipolar disorder) have galvanized her to help others. While she’s a talented actor and dancer, she wants to become a psychologist so she can help people like her mother who are suffering from mental illness. Her primary goal in the near-term is to become completely independent: “I know I have no safety net. Everything that I want to be, it’s all on me. This experience has driven me to this independence in the way that I never felt like I had an option to neglect my schoolwork, because I knew [it] was my ticket to never having to experience anything like this again.”

Watch Angelique, her family, teachers and mentors discuss her journey, including its happy ending. And prepare to be inspired.

Barack Obama Appropriately Made His Own Meme to Wish Joe Biden Happy Birthday

It’s Joe Biden’s seventy-fifth birthday, and Barack Obama just celebrated it by creating his own version of those iconic Obama-Biden friendship memes.

The former president of the United States uploaded a picture of himself to Twitter giving a televised speech while the former VP grins and points at the audience in the background with this stellar caption:

“ME: Joe, about halfway through the speech, I’m gonna wish you a happy birth–
BIDEN: IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!
ME: Joe.”

Obama’s tweet continued: “Happy birthday to @JoeBiden, my brother and the best vice president anybody could have.”

(Cue tears.)

By now you know the former POTUS and VPOTUS have been the stars of many, many online memes commemorating their endearing relationship, contrasting Obama’s cool presidential poise with Biden’s kooky vibes.

Biden himself is a fan, telling NBC News earlier this year that he’s still not over the Internet’s creativity, and even has favorites. “A couple of ones I liked were ones where I was trying on Ray Bans and he’s lying on the couch and I turn around and I said, ‘Which ones do you like?’ And he looks at me and says, ‘Joe, Joe, come on, focus here,'” he said in the interview. He’s also quite partial to the ones of him pranking Trump. #Same.

'Wonder Woman' Fans Aren't Happy With New Costumes in 'Justice League'

Of the many things the Wonder Woman movie did right (a woman director, an all-female island, Gal freaking Gadot), the Amazons’ costumes are right up there among the greatest. After centuries of comic book writers and video game designers making women fight in naught but a boob window, at last we had some actually plausible ass-kicking gear. The ladies of Themyscira wear literal breastplates, female gaze–friendly leathers, midriff armor, and, most importantly, more than just a bra. We can thank costume designer Lindy Hemming, who said she wanted to design armor that was simultaneously “authentic and real” and “hot as hell.”

But, if Internet speculation is to be believed, it looks like the upcoming Justice League movie had other plans—and fans are not happy. On Sunday, cosplayer Kimi (AKA GoldenLassoGirl) obtained what appear to be photos of the Amazons from Justice League. Gone are the breastplates, the armored knee-high boots, and the ab coverage. (Seriously, where’s the ab coverage?) Instead, we have Zeus’ elite group of legendary women warriors lounging around in something more akin to that infamous Princess Leia slave costume.

“Why mess with perfection?” asked Kimi on a blog post calling out the change. “Oh, right. The all-male team of directors and executive directors wanted women to fight in bikinis.” Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder, and the new costumes appear to be designed by Michael Wilkinson, instead of Hemming.

Kimi’s post spread like wildfire, and photos of the alleged new costumes quickly caused an uproar on social media. “In case you wonder: Here’s a picture of how the Amazons looked in Wonder Woman…next to pic how they look in Justice League,” wrote @Rosgakori in a viral tweet. “First designed by Lindy Hemming, second by Michael Wilkinson. Some steps backwards, methinks.”

Other users chimed in, with Melissa Silverstein, artistic director of the Athena Film Festival, calling it “a fantastic example of the difference between the male and female gaze” in another widely circulated tweet.

Since the photos surfaced, it appears as though the redesigned costumes may be for a flashback to a past era of Themyscira, making it a literal “step backward.” And social media stands divided on whether the present-day Amazonians in Justice League have more revealing costumes than the ones we saw in Wonder Woman, as shown in the tweets below.

We’ll have to wait for the film or officials photos to be released in order to know for sure what the Amazons’ costumes look like. (We’ve reached out to representatives for comment and will update this post once we’ve heard back.) But given the record-breaking numbers Wonder Woman pulled in last year, angering this fan base might not be the best idea.

Betsy DeVos Dressed As Ms. Frizzle for Halloween and Twitter Is Not Happy About It

At Monday night’s annual White House Halloween bash, a handful of administration officials stopped by the South Lawn to take part in the spooky festivities. Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders posed for photos with the President and First Lady, Secretary of Veterans Affairs David Shulkin donned a classic knife-through-the-headband, and Attorney General Jeff Sessions dressed as…Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Going all out in her costume, however, was Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, who dressed up as The Magic Schoolbus‘ Ms. Frizzle.

Of course, the dichotomy between DeVos and her costume choice was staggering. After all, Ms. Frizzle is one of the most beloved literary characters of all time. DeVos is a woman who tries to divert money away from public schools, has no prior experience in public education, and recently reversed a slew of protections for survivors of sexual assault on college campuses.

As expected, Twitter was furious about Devos-as-Frizzle, and fired off a wave of angry tweets:

Meghan Markle Opens Up for the First Time About Prince Harry: 'We're Two People Who Are Really Happy and in Love'

From the moment news broke that Suits actress Meghan Markle was dating Prince Harry, it’s been a non-stop media frenzy around the two. In fact, the negative headlines—many of which were racist about the fact that Meghan is biracial—and constant paparazzi presence got so bad that Harry had to issue a statement asking everyone to back off. (They didn’t.)

Through all of this, though, Meghan has stayed silent on how she’s been dealing with her increased fame—until now, that is. In a new cover interview with Vanity Fair, the actress opened up about the pressure that comes with dating a royal and how they’re getting through it together. “It has its challenges, and it comes in waves—some days it can feel more challenging than others,” she explains. “And right out of the gate it was surprising the way things changed. But I still have this support system all around me, and, of course, my boyfriend’s support.”

But how do they make it work when their every move is followed and documented? “I can tell you that at the end of the day I think it’s really simple,” she says. “We’re two people who are really happy and in love. We were very quietly dating for about six months before it became news, and I was working during that whole time, and the only thing that changed was people’s perception. Nothing about me changed. I’m still the same person that I am, and I’ve never defined myself by my relationship.”

Still, there’s another way Meghan avoids the media attention: by not reading any articles about her or Harry. “I haven’t even read press for Suits,” she explains. “The people who are close to me anchor me in knowing who I am. The rest is noise.”

With that noise in the background, the only thing that really matters for Meghan is focusing on her and Harry’s relationship. “We’re a couple,” she explains. “We’re in love. I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time. This is for us. It’s part of what makes it so special, that it’s just ours. But we’re happy. Personally, I love a great love story.”
