Pete Davidson Joked About Messing With Ariana Grande's Birth Control on 'SNL'

The 44th season of Saturday Night Live premiered on Saturday night—and it definitely gave fans a lot to talk about. There was Matt Damon’s portrayal of a super bro-y Brett Kavanaugh in the show’s cold open, as well as Kanye West performing dressed first as a giant bottle of Perrier and then in a MAGA hat. But there was one moment during Pete Davidson‘s turn on the “Weekend Update” desk that Twitter is decidedly not ok with.

While sitting down with SNL cast mate Colin Jost to chat about his engagement (and whether or not the couple has a prenup), Davidson joked that his fiancee, singer Ariana Grande, pays $60,000 for rent while all he has to do is “stock the fridge.” When Jost commented that a man “doesn’t always have to be the breadwinner in a relationship,” Davidson replied, “G*****n right, he does not—last night I switched her birth control with Tic Tacs.”

“I believe in us, and all,” he continued, “I just want to make sure she can’t go anywhere.”

If you’re fully cringing at this statement, you are definitely not alone.

Fans on Twitter were less than thrilled with the comment, especially given the timing of this weeks episode. “Apparently Pete Davidson thinks it’s ok to make jokes about switching Ariana’s birth control with tic-tacs?? Really? At this stage in the game this dude can no longer call these jokes,” wrote one fan on Twitter. “#SNL Pete Davidson joking that he switched Ariana Grade’s birth control with tic tacs IS COMPLETELY TONE DEAF given all of their needling of Kavanaugh.”

Many others chimed in in agreement, calling the joke “insensitive,” and urging SNL to “be better” with their content.

Davidson went on to joke that if the couple ever did break up, he’d be stuck working at K-Mart listening to Ariana Grande’s “Pete Davidson” blaring through the speakers.

'SNL' Epically Roasted Cast Member Pete Davidson About His Summer With Ariana Grande

A lot has happened for SNL‘s Pete Davidson since the show’s 43rd season finale back in May: The cast member got engaged to one of the biggest stars on the planet (cough cough Ariana Grande) and has consequently been in the limelight quite a bit more often. It’s a chain of events that apparently made him ripe for a little playful ribbing from his fellow cast members during the show’s 44th season premiere on Saturday night.

In a pre-recorded sketch, Davidson’s fellow cast mate Kyle Mooney laments that he thought 2018 would be his year to become one of the most recognizable names on SNL, but then, he says, “this summer happens.” Much to Mooney’s frustration, Davidson has suddenly become best friends with the show’s creator, Lorne Michaels, and walks around studio 8H like he owns the place.

“I feel like this year I’ve gotta make a statement, so I’m gonna change things up a bit,” Mooney confesses to the camera, before going in for a full Davidson-inspired makeover.

He shows up to the first day of work an entirely new man, complete with a blond dye job, a wardrobe of graphic sweatshirts, and a pet pig.

“I love this, bro,” Mooney tells the camera. “People are finally starting to take me seriously. Now all I need is a hot celebrity girlfriend, and that’s fine by me.” He then shows up in the writers room with a list of demands and guest star Wendy Williams on his arm.

Davidson confronts Mooney about his copycat transformation—and it looks like there’s only room for one Pete Davidson on the show. The pair challenge each other to a Gladiator-style duel (in which episode host Adam Driver also becomes an unintended casualty) that ends with Davidson impaling Mooney with a sword.

Though Davidson came out the victor in this particular sketch, things for him weren’t all positive during the season’s premiere episode: During his turn on “Weekend Update,” he made a joke about replacing Ariana Grande‘s birth control with Tic Tacs, which many fans felt was “tone deaf” and “insensitive.”

You can watch the whole video of Mooney morphing into Davidson (and the gruesome aftermath) below:

Ariana Grande Hilariously Trolled Kim Kardashian and North West for Their Very Familiar-Looking Ponytails

It looks like Kim Kardashian and her daughter, North West, are borrowing some hair inspo from Ariana Grande—and the singer has noticed.

The mother-daughter pair stepped out on Saturday night wearing the same matching high ponytails that have become a part of Grande’s signature look. Stylist Chris Appleton—who works with both Kardashian and Grande—posted a series of photos of Kim and North to Instagram with captions like “90s pony Vibes ???” and “This look was lit.”

North paired her version of the pony with hair rings—not dissimilar to ones Grande’s worn in the past—while Kim enhanced her look with burgundy eyeshadow.

Grande apparently saw her stylist’s pics and cheekily commented on one of the shots, “I thought both of them were me.”

Speaking of, the singer has recently been experimenting with different hairstyles: In the course of the past few months, she’s shown off a low ponytail, a lavender dye job, and flowing blond hair. Eventually, however, she returned her hair to its rightful position on top of her head.

“my god going back to a high pony after a few days of not wearing a high pony is …….. a remarkable feeling,” she wrote on Twitter at the time. “i’m just ……. supposed to have a high pony u kno ? some things are just meant to be and this is jus one of those things.”

When a fan asked if her sky-high ponies ever hurt her head (because ponytail headaches are a thing, people!), she replied, “nah I can’t feel anymore the nerves in my head said fuck u a good year or two ago we’re good,” then followed up by saying, “ugh she’s up and she’s divine.”

The style was just as “divine” atop Kim and North’s heads. Now, can we get a selfie of all three high-pony queens, or what?

Ariana Grande Has Mixed Feelings About Going Back on Tour

It’s been a tough month for Ariana Grande: The singer is coping with the sudden death of her ex-boyfriend, Mac Miller, who passed away from an apparent overdose on September 7. Several days after the news broke, Grande’s reps released a statement saying she was taking time to “heal and mend” and “staying close to home.” Since then, she’s kept her fans updated on Twitter, recently admitting to them that she’s trying to get “back to normal” after everything that’s happened. “It’s hard and I’m human and tired,” she tweeted.

One thing Ariantors are curious about is whether or not she plans to go on tour for her Sweetener album. Her aforementioned statement suggests that probably won’t be happening for a while, but on Friday Grande admitted via Twitter that she has mixed emotions about hitting the road again.

“I’m antsy. can’t sit still,” she wrote. “I wanna tour now. Yesterday I [just] wanted to sit home forever but today I wanna do shows and see [you].”

A fan replied to Grande’s tweet urging her to just do what will make her the happiest. “We don’t want you to go on tour and then regret it,” they said, to which Grande replied, “I’d never regret it. My happiest moments are with y’all and on stage and stuff. I think it’s just the [long] chunks of time away from home that are scary to me.”

The singer continued, “Maybe I’ll do a mini [tour]. I can’t do what I did last time right now. That I do know. Whatever it is, I hope it’s okay with you. I just love and miss you. Everybody telling me I need to take time but I’m so antsy.” (Grande’s referring to her Dangerous Woman Tour from 2017, which included the stop in Manchester.)

On Thursday (September 27), Grande worried fans when she tweeted how she just wants one “okay day.” “I’m so tired,” she added.

The next day, she sent out a message apologizing to anyone who felt concern—not that she needed to do that.

“[Just] had a human moment and wanted to confide. [You] know how much I love you,” she wrote. “On some real life shit.”

So, Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson Maybe Got a Micro Pig

Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson are reportedly love-nesting it up in a $16 million deluxe apartment. However, it seems the couple might have invited a third roommate into their digs, and this new little guest might be the cutest roomie of all time: It’s a micropig!

As Elle points out, pigs are actually illegal to keep as pets in NYC, so it could be that this is just a quick drop-in visit. Micropigs are also known to be good therapy animals and emotional support animals.

Grande took to the ‘gram over the weekend to post an adorable flood of photos and videos of she and Davidson cuddling with the tiny pig. She recorded the little guy nuzzling on her shoulder and dozing off in her bed—and although you can’t actually hear anything in the video clips, you don’t need to in order to appreciate the cuteness overload.

But even if it’s not a permanent addition to the family, the pig looks pretty comfortable hanging out in the pair’s luxury NYC home. On Twitter, fans took screenshots of the Grande’s IG stories because, let’s be honest, they’re too sweet not to save somewhere. “ariana grande putting videos of a pig on her story has been the most exciting thing of my day,” one Twitter user wrote.

Otherwise, Davidson and Grande have been keeping things pretty quiet on social media, apart from a few tributes Grande has posted in honor of her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller, who died last week.

The couple, who confirmed their super-speedy engagement earlier this year after just a few months of dating, is reportedly planning a wedding for sometime after 2019: Grande has said that she’s never spent so much energy “planning something personal that feeds my soul so much and my heart.”

Ariana Grande Just Posted a Tribute to Ex-Boyfriend Mac Miller Following His Death

Ariana Grande mourned the death of her ex-boyfriend rapper Mac Miller on Instagram, one day after Miller died of an “apparent overdose,”, per Variety, on Friday. The post features a black-and-white photo of Miller that Grande appears to have taken. (What looks like her shoes can be seen at the bottom of the frame.) Poignantly, she didn’t include a caption.

Grande and Miller ended their relationship in May after nearly two years of dating. Earlier this year, Grande had said she was “grateful to have him” in her life but cited issues with Miller’s sobriety as a contributing factor to their eventual breakup, calling the romance “toxic.”

While most fans paid respect on social media to the late rapper, some seemed to place blame on Grande, as headlines referenced her in news of his death, while others posted articles examining their relationship. In response, Grande shut off her Instagram comments due to the torrent of abuse aimed at her.

In a radio interview in July, Miller spoke out about their relationship: “We were together for two years. We worked through good times, bad times, stress, and everything else. And then it came to an end and we both moved on. And it’s that simple, you know?”
