Meghan Markle's Reception Dress Is a Stunning Stella McCartney Creation

It wouldn’t be a royal wedding without a bridal outfit change, now would it?

You might remember how, when she married Prince William back in 2011, Kate Middleton swapped her Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen ceremony gown for a more streamlined (but no less breathtaking) dress by the same designer to wear to the reception at Buckingham Palace. Meghan Markle took a page out of her new sister-in-law’s playbook and debuted a second bridal ensemble on her way to the more intimate gathering to celebrate her wedding to Prince Harry at Frogmore House this evening.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex depart Windsor Castle for a reception hosted by The Prince of Wales at Frogmore House, in a silver blue Jaguar E-Type Concept Zero. This vehicle was originally manufactured in 1968, and has since been converted to electric power,” the palace shared in a tweet, alongside a video giving the world its first glimpse of Meghan’s second dress, which is a halterneck Stella McCartney creation.

Of the second dress, Kensington Palace shared in a statement, “The Bride’s evening dress is designed by Stella McCartney and is a bespoke lily white high neck gown made of silk crepe. The Bride is wearing shoes from Aquazurra made in silky satin, with nude mesh, with soles painted in baby blue.”

Of course, we still can’t forget Meghan’s Givenchy Haute Couture ceremony gown. Of the ceremony dress, designer Clare Waight Keller said: “We wanted to create a timeless piece that would emphasize the iconic codes of Givenchy throughout its history, as well as convey modernity through sleek lines and sharp cuts. In contrast, the delicate floral beauty of the veil was a vision Meghan and I shared, a special gesture embracing the commonwealth flora, ascending the circumference of the silk tulle.”

It’s clear that Meghan wanted to keep those sleek, modern lines going well into the night. In a beautifully sentimental addition to her outfit, she also chose a stunning aquamarine ring that once belonged to Princess Diana—one of many tributes the couple included in the big day.

Inside Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's First Royal Wedding Reception

Well, it happened: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot this afternoon (May 19) in London at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle in front of 600 people—and the entire world. The royal wedding happened! So what do we talk about now?

Well, the receptions, of course. Prince Harry and Markle are not having one, but two parties to celebrate their big day. The first one happened directly after the ceremony at St. George’s Hall. Most of the people who attended the ceremony were at this celebration. The second one, though, is a bit more exclusive and at Frogmore House. Only about 200 of Markle and Prince Harry’s guests are expected to be at that shindig.

Obviously, we’ll have the scoop on the fancy Frogmore party after it happens, but for now, here’s everything you need to know about the first reception at St. George’s Hall, which sounds luxe, to say the least.

1. About 600 of the royal wedding guests were invited to this lunchtime reception.

2. The menu was delicious. It included, according to Kensington Palace: Scottish langoustines wrapped in smoked salmon with citrus crème fraiche, grilled English aparagus wrapped in Cumbrian ham, garden pea panna cotta with quail eggs and lemon verbena, heritage tomato and basil tartare with balsamic pearls, poached free range chicken bound in a lightly spiced yoghurt with roasted apricot, croquette of confit Windsor lamb, roasted vegetables and shallot jam, warm asparagus spears with mozzarella, and sun-blush tomatoes.

3. They’re also eating what the Kensington Palace calls “bowl food.” This includes: fricassee of free range chicken with morel mushrooms and young leeks, pea and mint risotto with pea shoots, truffle oil and parmesan crisps, and ten-hour slow-roasted Windsor pork belly with apple compote and crackling.

4. There’s dessert, too. Specifically, champagne and pistachio macaroons, orange crème brûlée tartlets, and miniature rhubarb crumble tartlets.

5. The much-discussed lemon elderflower cake was served at this reception. The photos alone are amazing.

6. And, yes, there were drinks. Guest sipped on Pol Roger Brut Réserve Non Vintage Champagne as well as a selection of wines. The under-21 crowd got to enjoy several types of soft drinks, including an apple and elderflower “mocktail.”

7. Elton John performed at the reception. This rumor was finally confirmed by Kensington Palace. “Prince Harry asked Sir Elton to perform at the Reception which was hosted by Her Majesty The Queen at St George’s Hall, Windsor Castle,” reads a statement from the Palace.
