Here's Your First Look At Taylor Swift's 'Lover'-Inspired Fashion Collaboration With Stella McCartney

Taylor Swift’s long-awaited seventh album, Lover, is almost here—and just before the big reveal, the singer released a first look at her upcoming collaboration with designer Stella McCartney.

Swift and McCartney partnered on a collection inspired by the upcoming release. And the Lover lookbook reveals there will be plenty of pastel-colored merchandise and accessories to go around.

The line includes hoodies decorated with hearts, tons of rainbow-hued shirts, and hats and totes that fit in with the dreamy tones that Swift has used for her Lover videos so far. It also gives eager Swifties a few more clues about what some of the unreleased songs might sound like: One sweater reads, “Summer’s a knife” and another item has “”Like a Tennessee Stella McCartney” on it. Her new cat, Benjamin Button, even makes an appearance.

Apparently, the idea for this collaboration started when Swift began spending time in London, where her boyfriend Joe Alwyn lives.

“When I started spending more time in London, Stella and I would go on walks, have cocktails, and talk about life. So when it came time to write this album, I name-checked her in one of my songs, and when I played her the album, I said, ‘Should we do something?’” Swift told Vogue. She wore a Stella McCartney dress to the 2019 BAFTAs after parties—before their collaboration was officially announced.

McCartney jumped on the chance to work with Swift and said she was immediately in after getting an advance listen of Lover. “I couldn’t believe that my name is in a Taylor Swift song (what?!?) and after Taylor played me the entire album it gave me such incredible inspiration for the collaboration and it really revolved around the music,” the designer told Vogue. “When Taylor asked me, or even thought to come and do this with me, what I love is how we really complement each other in what we generate creatively together.”

Kate Middleton's Stella McCartney Look for Archie's Christening Is Giving Us Serious 'Gossip Girl' Vibes

Royal christenings have always been a big deal in the royal family, and today’s ceremony featuring baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was no different—except for how private new parents Meghan Markle and Prince Harry decided to keep the day. Luckily, despite the strict 25-guest limit on the intimate event, the royals decided to gift the public with two portraits from the Saturday (July 6) ceremony. Not only did we see Markle stunning in Dior for the occasion, we also got a glimpse at her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, looking equally elegant for the event.

In the first photos released from Baby Archie’s christening, Middleton is seated on the far right of a royal family portrait in a bright outfit. She’s posing in a pink pussy-bow dress and a very Blair Waldorf-esque headband, finished with a pair of magenta heels.

It didn’t take long for royal fans to hunt down the designer of Middleton’s look. Who’s responsible? None other than Stella McCartney, a designer previously worn by both the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex.

And it’s not the first time Middleton’s worn the dress: Dedicated style blog What Kate Wore pointed out that Kate chose the same look for the Queen’s Christmas lunch in December 2018. There was one key difference between the dress’s first appearance and its styling in the royal christening portrait: The first time around, Middleton didn’t style it with one of her now-favorite padded headbands.

Using stylish accessories to update a dress? Looks like the royals are relatable in one more way. Here’s the look in December:

Why Meghan Markle's Stella McCartney Reception Dress Won't Be on Display With Her Wedding Gown

Looks like we’ve got a bit of a good news/bad news situation on our hands in regards to your prospects of seeing Meghan Markle‘s iconic wedding dresses in real life. While her custom Givenchy Haute Couture ceremony gown by Clare Waight Keller will be on display for the entire world to see as of October 26, the Stella McCartney number she changed into for the evening reception will not. Instead, it’ll be kept private.

According to a spokesperson for The Royal Collection Trust, Markle has chosen to keep the sleek white halter dress as a part of her personal collection instead of showing it off to the public. “Because Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding reception was a private affair, the bride’s second dress will not be showcased,” Hello! reports.

So, you might not be able to see the incredibly glamorous dress that sped through the streets in a vintage Jaguar, but the Givenchy gown Meghan wore to walk down the aisle at St George’s Chapel will be put up at Windsor Castle as part of The Royal Collection Trust’s latest exhibition, “A Royal Wedding: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex,” which opens in October. That, plus Markle’s shoes, veil, tiara, and accessories will be on view through January 6, 2019.—before moving to the Palace of Holyroodhouse from June 14, 2019 to October 6, 2019.

If you were a big fan of Markle’s second Royal Wedding dress, though, there’s still the option to go straight to Stella McCartney herself: Earlier this summer, the designer announced she would be creating a limited-edition capsule collection inspired by the Duchess of Sussex. Plus, we have a feeling we’ll be seeing plenty of boatneck and halter wedding gowns over the next few years, thanks to Markle.

Meghan Markle's Reception Dress Is a Stunning Stella McCartney Creation

It wouldn’t be a royal wedding without a bridal outfit change, now would it?

You might remember how, when she married Prince William back in 2011, Kate Middleton swapped her Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen ceremony gown for a more streamlined (but no less breathtaking) dress by the same designer to wear to the reception at Buckingham Palace. Meghan Markle took a page out of her new sister-in-law’s playbook and debuted a second bridal ensemble on her way to the more intimate gathering to celebrate her wedding to Prince Harry at Frogmore House this evening.

Obsessed with the Royals? Same. Click here to get Meghan Markle updates—and more—from Glamour’s daily newsletter.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex depart Windsor Castle for a reception hosted by The Prince of Wales at Frogmore House, in a silver blue Jaguar E-Type Concept Zero. This vehicle was originally manufactured in 1968, and has since been converted to electric power,” the palace shared in a tweet, alongside a video giving the world its first glimpse of Meghan’s second dress, which is a halterneck Stella McCartney creation.

Of the second dress, Kensington Palace shared in a statement, “The Bride’s evening dress is designed by Stella McCartney and is a bespoke lily white high neck gown made of silk crepe. The Bride is wearing shoes from Aquazurra made in silky satin, with nude mesh, with soles painted in baby blue.”

Of course, we still can’t forget Meghan’s Givenchy Haute Couture ceremony gown. Of the ceremony dress, designer Clare Waight Keller said: “We wanted to create a timeless piece that would emphasize the iconic codes of Givenchy throughout its history, as well as convey modernity through sleek lines and sharp cuts. In contrast, the delicate floral beauty of the veil was a vision Meghan and I shared, a special gesture embracing the commonwealth flora, ascending the circumference of the silk tulle.”

It’s clear that Meghan wanted to keep those sleek, modern lines going well into the night. In a beautifully sentimental addition to her outfit, she also chose a stunning aquamarine ring that once belonged to Princess Diana—one of many tributes the couple included in the big day.
