Serena Williams Opens Up About Her Friendship with Duchess Meghan Markle

Serena Williams and Meghan Markle continue to prove that they are the epitome of #FriendshipGoals, despite living oceans apart and being two of the most famous women in the world.

Williams opened up about her royal BFF in a new interview with Australian television’s “The Sunday Project”—taped just days after the controversial final of the U.S. Open. “We were actually just texting each other this morning,” she says of the Duchess of Sussex.

“We have known each other for a long time, but we really kind of are relying on each other right a lot recently,” Williams revealed when asked if they give each other advice on the media scrutiny they face. The two reportedly met back in 2010 and have been dear friends ever since. Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, famously attended Markle’s wedding to Prince Harry in May and also were spotted at a polo tournament with the royal couple this summer.

Williams also shares why she thinks Meghan and Harry’s wedding was so important on a global scale. “To have such a monumental moment in England, nonetheless of all the places, I felt like we were literally watching history,” she says in the interview. “I feel like in a few years we are going to look back at that moment and it’s going to be so historic. It’s going to be something that people never forget. The whole service was really wonderful, and most of all I just wanted to see my friend be happy. And I think that’s what happened.”

And it’s no wonder they’ve needed a little extra support as of late—they’ve both had quite the whirlwind year. Markle has been navigating her public role as a duchess after planning the wedding of the year—even hosting her first solo event this week with her mom and husband by her side. Serena has been working her way back to the top of the tennis world after giving birth to daughter Olympia last year. Along the way, she’s had to deal with controversies about her attire and her behavior, played in two Grand Slam finals, and designed a new clothing line.

But it seems the two are never far from each other’s minds. The royal sat in the royal box at Wimbledon (along with her sister-in-law Kate Middleton) to cheer Willams on in the finals. And Williams named one of the pieces in her new collection the “Royal Duchess Hoodie” which we can only imagine is a tribute to her friend.

You can watch Serena’s full interview below.

Carrie Underwood Powerfully Opens Up About Struggling With Multiple Miscarriages

Carrie Underwood is currently expecting her second child with her husband, hockey player Mike Fisher. However, in an candid interview with CBS Sunday Morning, the country music star opened up about the complications she faced before her most recent pregnancy, revealing that she suffered three miscarriages over the last two years.

In the emotional interview with Tracy Smith, Underwood tearfully explained why 2017 “just wasn’t how I imagined it.”

“I’d kind of planned that 2017 was going to be the year that I work on new music, and I have a baby. We got pregnant in early 2017, and [it] didn’t work out,” she said in the interview, tearing up.

She continued later, “In the beginning it was like, ‘Okay, God, we know this is, just wasn’t Your timing. And that is all right. We will bounce back and figure our way through it.’ And got pregnant again in the spring, and it didn’t work out. Got pregnant again, early 2018. Didn’t work out. So, at that point, it was just kind of like, ‘OK, like, what’s the deal? What is all of this?'”

Underwood went into detail about how hard it was to have to be in the spotlight and smile for cameras despite what she was going through, but added that it was “therapeutic” to put some of the feelings into writing on her new album, Cry Pretty.

The singer also explained that one of the biggest difficulties was grappling with the anger that came with her miscarriages. “I had always been afraid to be angry because we are so blessed,” she said. “And my son, Isaiah, is the sweetest thing. And he’s the best thing in the world. And I’m like, ‘If we can never have any other kids, that’s OK, because he’s amazing.’ And I have this amazing life. Like, really, what can I complain about? I can’t. I have an incredible husband, incredible friends, an incredible job, an incredible kid. Can I be mad? No. And I got mad.”

Underwood said that when she thought she was having her fourth miscarriage, she prayed intently and found comfort through her relationship to God. “I was like, ‘Why on Earth do I keep getting pregnant if I can’t have a kid? Like, what is this? Shut the door. Like, do something. Either shut the door, or let me have a kid.’ And for the first time, I feel like I actually I told God how I felt. And I feel, like, we’re supposed to do that. That was like a Saturday—and the Monday I went to the doctor to, like, confirm, another miscarriage. And they told me everything was great!”

It’s not the first time Underwood had talked about her struggles with pregnancy and fertility: She’d shared that she thought she had missed her window to have more kids at age 35 in an interview with Redbook, which drew some criticism from the parenting community.

Despite her fears of missing her window, she’s now getting awaiting for the arrival of the new baby—and she’s not the only one who’s excited. She said of her oldest son Isaiah, “He’ll be really sweet and talk to my belly and kiss my belly. He’s the sweetest little boy. But no kid can really know that their life is going to change… He’ll have to share Mommy.”

Ariana Grande Tearfully Opens Up About 'get well soon,' Her New Song Inspired by the Manchester Concert Attack

Ariana Grande has been sharing all the stories behind her new album, Sweetener, which dropped on Friday—and there’s one song in particular that strikes an emotional chord with her. “get well soon”, the album’s final track, is in part an ode to the 22 victims of the 2017 terrorist attack that took place after one of her concerts in Manchester, England. On Friday, Grande listened to the song on Beats 1 radio with Ebro Darden and tearfully recounted the inspiration behind it.

“It’s just about just being there for each and helping each other through scary times and anxiety,” Grande said as she became more and more emotional. “There’s some dark shit out there, man, and we just have to be there for each other as much as we can because you never fucking know. I just wanted to do something to make people feel good and less alone.”

“Obviously [if you see it] on the news it affects you but not in the same way. You feel bad, you tweet it, you post a picture, you send your condolences, you say something and move on,” Grande said on the show, then continued: “It’s like people are permanently affected by this shit and it’s just like, perspective. It changes everything, changes your life quite a bit. You want to be more present and follow happy impulses and figure it out later and stay in the moment.”

Grande, who organized a benefit concert for the victims after the attack, has opened up about the experience in the past, explaining what a toll it took on her mental health. “I don’t think I’ve been through anything as traumatic as [what] we’ve been through,” she said in an interview with Coveteur.

But “get well soon” isn’t strictly about Manchester. It also tackles dealing with mental health and anxiety, Grande said on Beats 1. “It’s not just about that. It’s also about personal demons and anxiety, and more intimate tragedies, as well. Mental health is so important. People don’t pay enough mind to it.” she said, adding that people are often moving so fast in their lives they don’t pay attention to “what’s happening inside.”

“That’s why I felt like it was important,” Grande said through tears. “I just wanted to give people a hug, musically and I feel like the lyrics can be kind of corny when I talk about wanting to hug you, but I do. People gotta be nicer.”

Kim Kardashian Opens Up About Returning to Paris for the First Time Since Robbery

Kim Kardashian West returned to Paris on Thursday, June 21 for the first time since her robbery at gunpoint in 2016. Naturally, the trip was a significant milestone for the 37-year-old reality star, and she wrote an open letter on her website about what it was like to return for the same event—Paris Fashion Week—and how her life has changed since the experience.

“I went back to Paris to witness Kanye’s BFF, Virgil Abloh, make history with his first collection and runway show for Louis Vuitton during Mens Fashion Week. It was such an emotional trip!,” KKW wrote in a blog post on her website. “For me, it was the perfect time to come back to a place where I fell in love, but also a place where I suffered great trauma.”

Kardashian explained that she was only in France for 12 hours before returning to the United States for Teyana Taylor’s listening party (Kanye West produced the singer’s upcoming album). Kardashian also said that having her husband with her and beefing up her security made her feel more safe. “Emotionally, I feel calm. I’ve truly put the experience behind me, and have learned and grown from it. Because of this, mentally coming back to Paris wasn’t difficult for me,” Kardashian wrote. “It feels refreshing to face my fears and overcome them. For me, there’s no point in staying in a f—ed-up state of mind. ‘Feel it, go through it and move on’ has always been how I try to live my life. I would never suggest to anyone how to grieve, I can simply say what has worked for me.”

Kim has spoken candidly about her experience in the past two years, including her use of crystals to help her heal emotionally. However, she has also documented how hard it still is for her to feel safe while traveling and has become an outspoken gun control advocate.

“I’m not against guns and I’m not against people owning guns. After what happened to me in Paris, I know how important it is to be safe and to have armed security,” she explained. “All of my security is armed, but they also support stricter gun control laws and believe that we should restrict access to firearms for people with mental illness, anyone previously convicted of a misdemeanor, those who have been subject to a temporary restraining order and those at a higher risk of committing gun violence.”

Sophia Bush Opens Up About the Alleged Harassment She Faced on the *One Tree Hill* Set

Back in November, in the midst of the Harvey Weinstein scandal and the rise of the #MeToo movement, members of the cast and crew of One Tree Hill—including Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton—released a letter accusing the creator of that show, Mark Schwahn, of sexual harassment.

“Many of us were, to varying degrees, manipulated psychologically and emotionally. More than one of us is still in treatment for post-traumatic stress,” the letter read. “Many of us were put in uncomfortable positions and had to swiftly learn to fight back, sometimes physically, because it was made clear to us that the supervisors in the room were not the protectors they were supposed to be. Many of us were spoken to in ways that ran the spectrum from deeply upsetting, to traumatizing, to downright illegal. And a few of us were put in positions where we felt physically unsafe.”

Now, in a new interview with Andy Cohen, Bush is taking the conversation even further, describing a time she says Schwahn touched her inappropriately. “The first time Mark Schwahn grabbed my ass I hit him in front of six other producers and I hit him fucking hard,” she told Cohen. “And he came back to L.A. and I was told years later by one of the then writers who became an EP that he came back being like, ‘That fucking entitled bitch who does she think she is,’ and this very sweet man named Mike who I love and who is like a ride or die for me was like, ‘Maybe you just shouldn’t touch the girls,’ and, ya know, Mark gave him the option of shut up and keep your job or get out.”

Bush found herself in a difficult situation: quit and “kill” her career or stay in an uncomfortable workplace. “Because this is what people don’t understand, they go, ‘Oh well why don’t you just leave?’” she says. “First of all, why am I supposed to suffer and kill my own career because somebody else can’t keep their dick in their pants? Second of all, there is a whole crew that people don’t know about.”

Bush stayed, and Schwahn helmed One Tree Hill for eight seasons. However, after the OTH allegations were made, additional ones were levied against him by the cast and crew of The Royals. He was investigated and subsequently fired from that show in December.

Khloé Kardashian Opens Up About Breastfeeding True Thompson

Though it is literally nobody’s business whether Khloé Kardashian is breastfeeding her daughter, True Thompson, the reality star put any speculation about her methods to rest by opening up on the realities of being a new mom.

“Because I don’t produce enough milk, I also have to give a bottle with every feeding,” Kardashian wrote in a recent post on her app about a particular bottle she loves. “With the formula I use, I have to give True the bottle within 30 minutes of making it, so it’s amazing to have this machine make it for me. It’s super easy to use—and fast, so when I’m exhausted and can’t even keep my eyes open in the middle of the night, it’s a total lifesaver.”

Predictable product promotion aside, what Khloé is revealing here is pretty important: Breastfed babies can also drink bottles of formula. Predominantly formula-fed babies can also snuggle up to a boob from time to time. Whether a parent chooses to breastfeed or not is, first of all, totally their choice, and second of all it is largely not the black-and-white decision it’s often made out to be. Babies gotta eat! Sometimes they need more milk than what’s coming out during breastfeeding sessions; sometimes their parents think breastfeeding sucks and they want to keep it to minimum. All’s fair in love and parenting.

Khloé’s post says that she’s not producing enough milk, and luckily formula is up to the task of filling in those gaps. But many moms are quick to put the blame on their own boobs whenever breastfeeding poses a problem: Baby seems fussy? My boobs must not work. Baby eats every hour? That can’t be real! (Sometimes it is real.) Research has found that this worry is one of the main reasons parents turn to formula in the first place.

“Concerns about milk supply and whether the baby is growing enough has consistently emerged among the most common reasons mothers introduce supplemental bottles of infant formula or stop breastfeeding altogether,” writes lactation consultant Diana Cassar-Uhl, M.P.H., on KellyMom, an online resource for lactation support. The best ways to tell whether you’re experiencing low production, like Khloé, is to track your infant’s weight gain and the number of wet diapers they have in a day.

Of course, formula is fair game whether your breasts “work” or not. Breastfeeding is complicated. It can be painful. It’s weirdly expensive to maintain—and sadly there’s still a stigma around doing it in public. There’s also a certain level of “mommy shaming” associated with women who may not have a perfect experience with it, which is why it’s extra-important when women in the public eye get real about their own imperfect experiences.

Khloé isn’t the only celeb to speak candidly about breastfeeding. When Chrissy Teigen finished nursing her daughter, Luna, she shared a characteristically real tidbit about what it was like for her. “View from above. I really should have nursed out of both boobs (when I nursed),” she wrote in a Snapchat photo in which one of her breasts looks larger than the other.

Despite the fact that breastfeeding hasn’t been the easiest process for Khloé and baby True, there is a part of motherhood that is really working for her: maintaining a routine. “The truth is, all babies do is eat, sleep, potty, REPEAT for weeks. I love a routine, so not going to lie, this works for me,” she wrote in a separate post on her app. Though, she admits, “I can’t wait for her to get a little older so we can explore all that her nursery has to offer!”
