Meghan Markle, a True Friend, Volunteered for Airport Pickup Duty

Meghan Markle is currently laying low in Vancouver while Prince Harry negotiates with his family about the couple’s decision to step down from senior royal duties. And, apparently, she’s really leaning into commoner life.

The Duchess was spotted picking up her friend, pilates instructor Heather Dorak, from Vancouver’s Victoria International Airport on Thursday (January 16). Markle didn’t arrive at Arrivals in a motorcade—in fact, the The Daily Mail obtained pic of Markle driving herself and a security guard to the airport. (She was wearing a very casual black beanie and chic sunglasses for the trip.)

The rest of the encounter was as low-key as you’d expect from a woman who’s consciously uncoupling from royal life. Markle and Dorak were photographed smiling and sharing a quick hug in the car before Markle drove away. We’d be just as happy if we touched down for a visit with the Duchess of Sussex and didn’t even need to call an Uber.

Details about Dorak’s visit to Markle’s Vancouver residence haven’t been shared. But we can only assume her visit will include plenty of face time with Baby Archie, yoga (Markle’s favorite workout), and a Suits marathon for old time’s sake.

Dorak and Markle have been friends since the time when the Duchess still operated her personal Instagram account. The pair met in Los Angeles, where Markle reportedly took classes through Dorak’s Pilates Platinum brand. Dorak was also among friends including Priyanka Chopra and Serena Williams who attended Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding in 2018.

Markle has only been seen a handful of times since she and Prince Harry made their big announcement. On Tuesday (January 14), she visited Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre to discuss “issues affecting women in the community.” And Reports from Us Weekly say Markle has been spotted running errands in Vancouver. Markle was seen pulling into a drugstore parking lot, once again driving herself, on Sunday (January 12).

Despite the change in their royal status, the couple still has major plans for the future, including launching a new “charitable entity,” as well as splitting their time between the U.K. and North America.

The Best True Crime TV Shows You Can Stream Right Now

Hulu’s The Act is the latest true crime show to come out, and people are hooked. The miniseries centers on the real-life murder of Dee Dee Blanchard, a mother with Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome who intentionally made her daughter, Gypsy, sick. After enduring years of abuse, Gypsy retaliated by conspiring with her Internet boyfriend to kill her mother and run away together. It’s a fascinating tale that demonstrates, in a horrifying way, what human beings are capable of.

Beyond The Act, though, it seems the world can’t get enough of true crime TV shows in general. The genre is a full-blown phenomenon that spans all different types of media. Podcasts like Serial and Crime Junkie are always in the top slots on iTunes. Documentaries like Fyre quickly go viral on social media and birth hundreds of memes. Why true crime is so popular remains a mystery. Maybe we love it because it helps put our own lives in perspective. Perhaps it’s the car-crash mentality—we just can’t look away. Either way, our culture’s appetite for true crime has reached critical mass, which is why there’s a new movie, TV show, or documentary release seemingly every week.

So while you’re waiting for the next episode of The Act to premiere on Hulu, check out these titles, below. I suggest breaking them up with some comedies, though. It’s all about the balance.

Lady Gaga Calls Bradley Cooper a ‘True Friend’ After Their Viral Oscars Performance

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper‘s performance of “Shallow” at the 2019 Oscars currently has the Internet buzzing. It was a gorgeous rendition, yes, but people seem more interested in what’s going on between Cooper and Gaga offstage. The speculation that these two are more than friends is out of control—and problematic. As we pointed out yesterday, Gaga and Cooper were tasked with developing enough chemistry to sell A Star Is Born, so of course their performance at the Oscars had sparks. They’re actors.

Neither of them has directly addressed these rumors, but Gaga did call Cooper a “true friend” on Twitter late Monday night, February 25. “Nothing could be more special than sharing this moment at the Oscars with a true friend and artistic genius,” she wrote alongside a photo of herself and Cooper singing at the Oscars. Take a look at the message for yourself, below:

And here’s the pic she used of the performance:

Lady Gaga and her “Shallow” cowriters Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando, and Andrew Wyatt won the Oscar for Best Original Song. In her emotional speech, Gaga thanked her sister and Cooper before opening up about her own showbiz journey. “I’ve worked hard for a long time, and it’s not about winning. It’s about is not giving up. If you have a dream, fight for it. There’s a discipline for passion,” she said. “And it’s not about how many times you get rejected or you fall down or you’re beaten up. It’s about how many times you stand up and are brave and you keep on going.”

In the Oscars press room, Gaga revealed what Cooper said to her right before they hit the stage to sing “Shallow.” “One of the hardest things in life is to be brave enough to be yourself. I wish to everyone that is going to that celebration to feel a joy inside of them,” Gaga said, recalling Cooper’s words. “That’s actually what Bradley said to me yesterday, right before we did our last rehearsal for this performance of ‘Shallow,’ He said, ‘Let’s just drop a little bit of joy.’ And I said, ‘OK.’ And turns out, joy did a whole lot for me.”

Lifetime's New True Crime Movie *Love You to Death* Is Unlike Anything You've Ever Seen

Lifetime has never shied away from dark, twisted, real-life stories, and this Saturday’s Love You to Death is no exception. The film—which stars Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden and Emily Skeggs—tells the disturbing events that led to the murder of a seemingly perfect mother caring for her sick daughter. Harden plays Camile, a single mom suffering from Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, a mental illness in which a person acts as if an individual they’re taking care of has a physical or mental illness when the person is not really sick.

Harden had never heard of the syndrome but was totally captivated by the story, comparing it to a car wreck you can’t look away from. In fact, neither could Hulu, which airs a similar telling of the story later this spring with their limited series, The Act.

Whichever story you watch though, Harden and Skeggs hope the focus remains on mental health. “We can make assumptions about people with mental illness, we can make assumptions about other people’s families, but we don’t know,” Harden says. Here, she and Skeggs explain what it was like to immerse themselves into their respective roles, and the lessons they took away from it.

Glamour: How did you both get involved with this film?

Marcia Gay Harden: Emily’s friends were casting her before this even started shooting.

Emily Skeggs: Yeah, I’m a true crime junkie, so I had friends who said, ‘You need to watch this documentary, and also, you need to play this girl when it’s a movie.’ I had one friend who messaged me while I was in negotiations, and I was like, ‘Just hang tight, just wait two weeks and I’ll tell you something!’ So I was excited to dive into it.

MGH: For me it was a no brainer. I love Lifetime and the direction that Lifetime is going. I had never heard of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy or this story, but when I read it, it was like a car wrecks—you couldn’t look away. It was liberating to play this character. It’s fun to transform, but it was a lower, darker place to go, and a place that was full of so much sadness and darkness and pain. It’s the juice of being an actor, for sure.

ED ARAQUEL/Lifetime

ES: It made me think about perspective and love in a really different way and question a lot of things. You see these kinds of cases and think, I know what’s going on here, or I know exactly what I would have done if I was in their shoes. It made me really question things.

How much research did you do into what actually happened?

ES: And happens. And I really believe the only reason we really know about this case is because it ended in a murder and ended in violence. I think there are a lot of people living with this syndrome and doctors don’t know how to deal with it. There’s no protocol for it and no system in place to help people with this syndrome or to help doctors help people. It’s really fascinating.

MGH: Emily said this earlier, and it’s true: people who are sick like this don’t think they’re sick. People who are racist don’t think they’re racist. People who do crimes against humanity usually don’t think they are. So there’s not this awareness. I would love to have read a journal of Camille’s, but she wasn’t the type of person who would do that. That doesn’t exist. So she’s doing what she thinks she needs to do for her survival. And she would have taken it further. That’s what is scary. I think she would have taken it to the point of mentally incapacitating her so that all the world would know she’s mentally disabled and now I need to care for her for the rest of her life. It’s such an interesting story because in a terrible way, [Esme] breaks free. But I’m subjugating all of the person to a life to never knowing who she is as a human being. But I love that it’s a very current story.

If This *You* Fan Theory Is True, It Would Change Everything

Warning: Major You spoilers ahead.

The season one finale of Netflix’s You was bonkers, to say the least. After nine episodes of stalking and murder, Beck finally became privy to Joe’s behavior and tried to GTFO. Of course, this didn’t happen: Joe managed to kidnap Beck and keep her locked in that weird glass box in the basement of his bookstore. She almost successfully escaped, but unfortunately evil and toxic masculinity prevailed: Joe murdered Beck, or so we think, and he framed her therapist, Dr. Nicky, for the crime. He then sent the manuscript Beck had been working on to a publisher, thus turning her into the bestselling author she always wanted to be—all posthumously, mind you.

But what if Beck isn’t really dead? After all, Joe’s ex-girlfriend Candace popped up unexpectedly in the season finale, and we were convinced she died too. Plus, we never actually saw Beck’s dead body, just a body placed inside one of those crime-scene bags. Is it possible that Joe completely staged Beck’s death and she’s still down in his God-awful cage?

That’s what a few fans seems to think. “For anyone who’s watched the #Netflix series You, my theory is that Beck isn’t dead and she’s still down stairs in Joe’s weird-ass box,” one fan wrote on Twitter. “Beck isn’t dead. Joe just has her in the cage, and he reads to her every night, feeds her and tells her how much of a successful writer she is,” posted another. (That’s a very…bleak image.)

“I am so convinced Beck isn’t actually dead and is just in that horrific glass box forever now,” tweeted someone else. Check out some more reactions from viewers who are also on this train:

There are a few issues with this theory, though. For one, the world thinks Beck is dead. For her to suddenly reappear would require an ironclad explanation from the show-runners, which might not be possible. Also, Elizabeth Lail, who plays Beck, told Vulture she knew Beck was going to die before she signed on to the project.

“I thought it was gonna be some heroic justice at the end, but it’s more true to life that she does die, unfortunately. It’s more likely that someone would die in that situation,” she said.

Looks like we’ll have to wait until the season two premiere to receive any definitive answers.

Ariana Grande Temporarily Gave Up on True Love Because She Was Hangry, and Honestly, Same

We all know (and love) the celebrities that aren’t afraid to keep it real by giving us glimpses of just how relatable they are: There’s Rihanna, who once dodged a bouquet at a friend’s wedding, and there’s also Chrissy Teigen, who was once filmed using a spatula to try to save some spilled breast milk. And once in a while, just like us when we’re hungry, celebrities will say things they don’t mean. Exhibit A: Ariana Grande’s most recent series of tweets.

In a since-deleted tweet from Saturday, December 1, the singer declared that “true love doesn’t exist,” and claimed she doesn’t want a “next.” The “next,” of course, is a reference to the artist’s most recent single, “Thank U, Next,” which dropped in early November following her split from SNL cast member Pete Davidson—and her tweet came one day after she dropped her music video, which broke YouTube and Vevo’s record for most views within 24 hours. Fans were concerned about Grande, until she broke her silence with a bold statement: She was just hungry.

The singer hopped on Twitter again later in the day Saturday to add to her earlier declaration. She said: “true love might exist i was just hungry.”

However, it seems like there still might be some of that original sentiment yet: “but still, fuck that,” she tweeted later.

Well, there ya have it: True love may still exist—the singer was simply blinded by extreme hunger.
