Man Arrested for Groping Woman on Flight Tells Police That Donald Trump 'Says It's OK'


In a country where some of our leaders (and those sitting on the highest court in the land) are accused of sexual assault, we can only hope that their ability to maintain their positions doesn’t embolden would-be-assailants.

Not the case for 49-year-old Bruce Michael Alexander of Tampa, Fl., who was arrested Sunday after a woman sitting in front of him on a Southwest Airlines flight accused him of fondling her breasts while she was sleeping. While he was in custody, Alexander reportedly cited Donald Trump’s comments about women and told authorities that “the President of the United States says it’s ok to grab women by their private parts,” as justification for his actions.

According to a criminal complaint cited by the Washington Post, the woman felt a hand reach from behind her on the flight and touch the right side of her breast near her “bra line.” After she felt a second touch, she stood up and told Alexander, who was sitting behind her, that she didn’t know why he thought his behavior was okay and that he needed to stop. She changed seats, and Alexander was arrested once the aircraft landed in New Mexico.

Alexander reportedly asked authorities why he was being arrested and then made the comment about the president saying it’s okay “to grab women by their private parts.” He was likely referring to an Access Hollywood tape that captures audio of a 2005 interview in which Trump brags to television host Billy Bush about what he feels he’s entitled to do to women.

“You know, I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything,” Trump says in the audio.

Bush repeats, “Whatever you want,” and Trump follows with what’s now become his infamous pussy line: “Grab ’em by the pussy. You can do anything.”

Alexander’s remarks have started a discussion about the very real consequences of the president’s rhetoric toward women. Some have worried that Trump’s vulgar comments might embolden men to also disrespect women and repeat patterns of misogyny and harassment. That someone arrested for sexual assault can now point to the president and claim that he “says it’s ok” to grab women in an inappropriate way seems to confirm the fears of many.

The Southwest incident unfolds at a time when stories of sexual assault have pervaded political news. Judge Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed to the Supreme Court, even after being accused of assaulting Christine Blasey Ford in 1982. A highly divisive and publicized hearing put Ford’s story of alleged assault at the center of the national conversation.

The president himself has also been accused of harassing multiple women. He also has a long history of calling women disparaging names, referring to them as “dogs” and “pigs,” and most recently called adult female star Stormy Daniels “horse face.” He has also questioned women who have come forward with claims of sexual assault, mocking Ford at a rally and suggesting that sexual assault protesters are paid professionals.

Lakeith Stanfield Is a New Kind of Leading Man


If there’s one moment that sums up Lakeith Stanfield’s abilities, I’d argue it’s this: Halfway through season two of Atlanta, his character, Darius, attends a party at Drake’s mansion (just go with it) and has a stoned conversation with a woman about the nature of illusion. Sitting in the middle of a pool, tossing an apple in the air, he cites Swedish philosopher Bostrom’s simulation argument, which suggests reality is computer generated. It’s weird—like, super weird—but something about the way he delivers the complicated dialogue has you nodding along with every word.

Stanfield, 27, first signed on to the FX series because he thought it might provide “some deeper insight into the Atlanta music scene.” But the surreal comedy, which stars Donald Glover as Earn Marks, the manager and cousin of a rapper named Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry), and Stanfield as their offbeat friend, has become a genre-defying treatise on all aspects of black life. “I began to realize it was a story about human beings, and coming to understand one’s self and place in the world,” Stanfield says. “Essentially what the show is saying is that being black is being human. I’m a human first—in black circumstances.”

The day we talk, his circumstances have led him to Good Morning America, where a stylist (“some dude named Adam”) helped him pull together his outfit (“a nineties-style button-up, corduroy pants, Christmas socks, and Saint Laurent shoes”). The experience has led him to ponder those absurd moments of fame. “When it becomes about me, it feels a bit strange,” he says. “It feels like the focus is wrong. And sometimes it makes me feel like I want to get out of there.”

In a world everyone is trying to break into, Stanfield may seem like an outlier, but “that’s something Holly­wood’s trying to put on me,” he says. “I’ve never felt weird.” Still, he admits he’s a bit of a loner, even more so now than when he was a kid who wrote poetry and had a tree for a friend while growing up in Riverside, California. “I was always a people watcher and thought people were really peculiar,” he says. “I’d start fights because I thought it was strange that people could be bothered by so many things.”

His plan was to be an actor, but not on television. “TV to me seemed more fake. I guess ’cause of all the commercials,” Stanfield says. “I liked movies because they were like short stories.” He managed to hustle his way into film auditions by sending out résumés padded with fake productions—“I figured once they let me on set, they would figure out that I’m good enough”—and first captivated audiences as a troubled teen in 2013’s Short Term 12 and then as a terrorized body-snatch victim in last year’s Oscar-winning Get Out.

Television became more appealing once he met Glover at a Hollywood party, where the Atlanta creator pitched him the series on the spot. “When he saw me, he was like, ‘Hey, what’s up? I got this role you might be good for,’ and handed over the script. I think he was out looking for his Darius. I was just like, Here’s an opportunity. And it turned out to be cool.”

Cool is an understatement. Stanfield now finds himself at the center of an overdue small-screen black renaissance that includes everything from Black-ish to Insecure and The Chi while also building a career as a movie star. In July he earned raves as a struggling telemarketer in Sorry to Bother You; next month he’ll play an NSA expert in the thriller The Girl in the Spider’s Web.

This career versatility is more gut instinct than game plan. “I’m attracted to stories that move me,” he says. “Sometimes those are surreal, but more often they’re just stories that deal with characters who have to overcome challenges and get through and adapt.” I ask whether he’s worried that the trappings of fame might somehow change who he is or how he sees the world. “No,” he says quickly.

“You’re solid?” I offer.

“Solid as a rock.”

Scarlett Johansson Withdraws From "Rub and Tug" After Criticism of Her Casting as a Trans Man


Scarlett Johansson has withdrawn from the film Rub and Tug following widespread criticism of her casting as a transgender man, Dante “Tex” Gill. The actor announced the news on Friday in a statement to Out Magazine:

“In light of recent ethical questions raised surrounding my casting as Dante Tex Gill, I have decided to respectfully withdraw my participation in the project,” she said. “Our cultural understanding of transgender people continues to advance, and I’ve learned a lot from the community since making my first statement about my casting and realize it was insensitive. I have great admiration and love for the trans community and am grateful that the conversation regarding inclusivity in Hollywood continues.”

“According to GLAAD, LGBTQ+ characters dropped 40% in 2017 from the previous year, with no representation of trans characters in any major studio release,” she continued. “While I would have loved the opportunity to bring Dante’s story and transition to life, I understand why many feel he should be portrayed by a transgender person, and I am thankful that this casting debate, albeit controversial, has sparked a larger conversation about diversity and representation in film. I believe that all artists should be considered equally and fairly. My production company, These Pictures, actively pursues projects that both entertain and push boundaries. We look forward to working with every community to bring these most poignant and important stories to audiences worldwide.”

Johansson’s words are a significant departure from her previous statement. In the wake of the immense backlash against the news of her casting, she originally shifted attention to other cisgender actors who have portrayed transgender characters. “Tell them that they can be directed to Jeffrey Tambor, Jared Leto, and Felicity Huffman’s reps for comment,” she said simply, via a rep, to Bustle.

Previously, Johansson’s casting was heavily criticized by many, including trans actors Trace Lysette, who stars in Transparent, and Jamie Clayton, who stars in Sense8.

“Oh word?? So you can continue to play us but we can’t play y’all? Hollywood is so f*cked… I wouldn’t be as upset if I was getting in the same rooms as Jennifer Lawrence and Scarlett for cis roles, but we know that’s not the case. A mess,” Lysette wrote on Twitter. “And not only do you play us and steal our narrative and our opportunity,” she added, “but you pat yourselves on the back with trophies and accolades for mimicking what we have lived… so twisted. I’m so done…”

Clayton chimed in with the same criticism. “Actors who are trans never even get to audition FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAN ROLES OF TRANS CHARACTERS,” she tweeted. “THATS THE REAL ISSUE. WE CANT EVEN GET IN THE ROOM. Cast actors WHO ARE TRANS as NON TRANS CHARACTERS. I DARE YOU #RupertSanders @NewRegency #ScarlettJohansson”

Johansson was previously criticized for playing a whitewashed version of a Japanese character in Ghost in the Shell, which was also directed by Rupert Sanders, the director of Rub and Tug. It is unclear who will be replacing her in Rub and Tug, and whether the film will cast a transgender man.

Chrissy Teigen Just Called Out a Man for Taking Pictures of Her Breast Pumping


From “shitty friends” who sell stories to tabloids, to an online forum dedicated to trashing her, Chrissy Teigen has had to call out more than her fair share of toxic people. This time, the creep in question is a man who allegedly took pictures of her while she pumped breast milk in her car.

“Also to the man who took photos into our car as I was topless and pumping you can go f*ck yourself if you sell them,” the author/model/Lip Sync Battle host wrote in a couple of now-deleted tweets, according to Entertainment Tonight. “If I wanted to show you my salami nipples I’d show you my salami nipples on my own doing!”

Teigen elaborated on her thoughts about the situation in replies to other Twitter users. In response to a fan who suggested she share a breast-pumping pic herself to take the “wind outta that fools[‘] sails,” she wrote, “Oh I am definitely happy to! It’s most of my day ? just so creepy to be sitting in a car, dark out, and see flashes and a dude.”

Unfortunately, she also had to do a call-out within a call-out when another Twitter user defended the man’s decision to take pictures. “Yes jerry. Die on this hill,” she wrote. “This is what you should stand up for. A man’s right to shoot his camera into my (tinted) car. This is a great cause.”

The incident took place just three days after she had to fend off online hate about a breastfeeding photo she willingly shared herself. “Christ in a hand basket,” one self-styled Internet critic wrote. “Menstruating, childbirth and sex are natural, too, but that doesn’t mean I want to see pics of it and/or celebrities like @chrissyteigen taking a bath or nursing. We get it.”

“I don’t care to see grainy fireworks, coachella selfies or infinity pool pics but i let people live. calm your tits and scroll on by,” Teigen replied.

“Calm your tits and scroll on by,” indeed. And don’t take pictures of women without their permission!

Prince William Is Officially Going to Be Prince Harry's Best Man in the Royal Wedding


In news that isn’t surprising but still exciting, Kensington Palace announced Thursday (April 26) that Prince Harry has asked Prince William to be the Best Man in his wedding to Meghan Markle next month.

To celebrate the news, the Palace shared some tender photos of the brothers bonding. The latest is from when they attended the Stars Wars premiere a few months back, and the earliest is of the two of them as boys wearing police hats and ties. Child Prince Harry is standing cutely with his hands on his hips, as if he’s thinking, “Yup, in 30 years, I’m going to marry an actress from a USA network TV show, and the world’s ‘gonna be shook.” Check out Kensington Palace’s Instagram announcement for yourself, below:

And the same message was posted on Twitter, too, so their brotherly love could exist on as many platforms as possible.

Like we said, this news isn’t exactly shocking. Prince William and Prince Harry are similar in age, and they’re very close with each other. Prince Harry was also Best Man in Prince William’s wedding to Kate Middleton in 2011, so it’s only fitting he return the favor.

The question that remains now, though, is who will be Meghan Markle’s Maid of Honor. Will it be her mother? Priyanka Chopra? One of the Spice Girls? Please let it be one of the Spice Girls.

Tiffany Haddish on Her Best Groupon Purchase: 'I Don't Need a Man When I Got This'


During last year’s Super Bowl, Girls Trip breakout star Tiffany Haddish was at a friend’s house getting, as she says, “wasted.” It’s safe to say this year will be a bit of an upgrade considering she’s starring as Groupon’s new spokesperson in their Super Bowl commercial. Even better: She’s actually attending the big game in Minneapolis. “I want to cry just thinking about how good [it’s all been],” Haddish tells us. “If you believe in yourself enough and put in the work, good things will happen.”

And good things are indeed happening for Haddish. When she’s not taking selfies with Beyoncé or getting jewelry from Ellen DeGeneres (yep, read about that below), she’s turning her biggest passion—saving money—into a side career. As one of Groupon’s top customers (she’s in the 1% of users), the worldwide e-commerce marketplace took note of her obsession after her Jimmy Kimmel Live! segment talking about the brand went viral. So before the big day, Haddish called us up to talk about all that and (way) more.

First, we have to talk about Groupon and the Super Bowl commercial. Do you remember your first Groupon purchase?

Tiffany: I want to say my very first Groupon purchase was to a pole dancing class. We were going to a Bachelorette party and wanted to take a pole dancing class, so everybody had to get this Groupon for like $15. I believe that was the first…no, wait, wait, wait, hold up. It might have been a necklace. [Laughs]

We just went from pole dancing to a necklace. [Laughs] That’s great.

Tiffany: Girl, the best thing I ever bought on Groupon was a bidet! [Laughs] Yeah, girl! They sell bidets on there, and that has been the best thing I’ve ever bought off of there. I don’t need no man when I got a bidet, you know what I’m saying? You’re always so fresh and so clean! I got mine for like $298, and it was the best one on there at the time. They probably have some even better ones now, and they have some really cheap ones too, but it’s really the best.

What was your your reaction when you found out Groupon wanted you to represent them in such a big way?

Tiffany: They called my agent, and when my agent told me, I was like, “Yeah!” I was doing the Nay Nay for five minutes, I was so happy. When they said I was going to do the Super Bowl commercial, I was like, “What?! OK!” And then I started thinking about all these ideas, and they were like, “Well, we already have some stuff planned out, so save that for later.” I was like, “OK, cool.” Their ideas were way better than mine. I only thought of mine in like four minutes. They obviously spent time on theirs.

You’ve joked in the past that people think you’re making huge amounts of money now, but you’re like, “I’m glad you know my name now, but I’m still not making the big bucks.” Do you feel like you’re financially comfortable now, at least?

Tiffany: I’m definitely comfortable. I’ve been comfortable for a long time, because I spend money like I don’t have any money. That’s how I got into Groupon, and that’s how I’m going to be a multi-billionaire. I’m always living like I still have the Geo Metro, you know? I drive a Honda now. I’m not going bananas. I’m waiting until Tesla is ready to sponsor me and give me a car. [Laughs] If I talk about it enough, it will come!

I saw on Ellen that she gave you a Tesla rental for a week and a cardboard cutout of Oprah was in the back.

Tiffany: But they wouldn’t let me drive it off the [Warner Bros. lot]. They’re like, “Whenever you’re here for a whole week, you just give us a call and you can drive it,” and I was like, ‘Oh, man!’ But then the next day, Ellen sent a diamond necklace to my house, and it’s so beautiful. I was like, “Well, that makes up for everything.” She said she thought it would be inappropriate to give it to me on the air, so she gave me a necklace off air. I’m waiting for a fancy event to go to where I have to drive myself and then I’ll be like, “I’m ready for the Tesla because I have this fancy event and this fancy event and that fancy event, and I want to pull up in the Tesla.”

Can you even sum up what this last year has been like for you? Can you even put it into words what it has all meant?

Tiffany: To me, it’s like, you know something is going to happen, you just don’t know how it’s going to happen. I’ve kind of known this, and I’ve talked about it so much, but for it all to be manifesting now is the perfect timing. If this had happened in my 20s, I would have been a freaking mess. [Laughs] Now it’s just so perfect. I’m just so grateful. I’m not a perfect person, I’m going to make a lot of mistakes, but I’m just so happy. I just came back from Africa, and this is the first time in my whole life where I felt like a complete person. I want to cry just thinking about how good it…like, if you believe in yourself enough and put in the work and the main thing you have to do is really love and appreciate yourself.

It’s funny because one of my favorite quotes is from Oprah and she said, “You don’t get what you hope for, you don’t get what you wish for, you get what you believe.” I mean, how often do we wish for something or hope for something? But to believe it is an entirely different concept.

Tiffany: Yes!

And that’s why you and Oprah need to be BFFs.

Tiffany: I know, we need to be BFFs. I want to garden with her a few times. Come on, Oprah! Let’s grow some tomatoes!

Hey, maybe she’ll make you her VP if she runs for President in 2020. You never know.

Tiffany: Oh man, I don’t know if I want that kind of responsibility. That’s one thing I don’t believe. [Laughs]

I hear you on that. Do you ever worry, though, that the more success that comes your way, it’ll be harder to relate to the everyday things?

Tiffany: No, that never crosses my mind. Because I’m a human being. I take poops, too. [Laughs]

So now that you have been in this industry for a while and gotten a taste of fame over the last year, is there anything that surprises you?

Tiffany: You know, things that surprise me are when people want to meet me. That’s the thing that surprises me. Or when they say they want to work with me. It’s mind-blogging. Billy Crystal wants to work with me…I mean, what? Kate Hudson wants to work with me, and she’s invited me to her house. Are you serious? When I met Billy Crystal, it took everything in my power now to fan girl out because I’ve watched every one of his movies and studied him. I said, “Who knows, maybe one day I’ll get to host the Oscars and we can do it together!” Because I think he’s the best Oscar host of all time. He and Whoopi would pass me the torch, like, “Handle it, Tiffany.” [Starts screaming.] I believe that! I believe that.

What were you doing last Super Bowl, and what are you going to be doing this Sunday?

Tiffany: Last Super Bowl I was at my friend’s house getting pretty wasted, laughing at all the commercials. This Super Bowl, I’m actually going to go to the game, and this will be like the third time I’ve ever gone to a professional football game. It will be my very first Super Bowl I’ve ever attended, so I’m really excited.

What are you going to wear?

Tiffany: Well, I’m going to wear a big jacket that I got off of Groupon and some gloves that I got on Groupon because it’s going to be cold, and maybe my snow boots I got off of Groupon, too.

You should. Well, Tiffany, you’ve made my day and I can’t wait till you go gardening with Oprah. I believe it’s going to happen.

Tiffany: Oh yes, and I’m going to be crying like a baby and probably will roll around in her dirt.

Well, I’m going to go on Groupon and look into buying a bidet. If I could only buy a man on Groupon.

Tiffany: You know, Groupon had speed dating six or seven months ago, so hopefully they bring that back. Hey, they even have an adult section with the really good grown-up toys, you know the ones that are normally like $200-$300, and they’re like $99. You’ll get an incredible price!
