Kate Middleton and Prince William Just Made a Surprise, Rare TV Appearance—With Their Kids

Kate Middleton and Prince William just did something they normally don’t do: make a TV appearance. And with their kids—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—no less.

The Cambridges quickly popped up on BBC One’s Big Night In special Thursday night (April 23) to show their support of the carers working on the front line of the coronavirus pandemic. During the #ClapForOurCarers segment of the special, Middleton, Prince William, and their children applauded and smiled for the workers, as millions of people watched from home.

For those who don’t know, #ClapForOurCarers is a movement happening in the U.K. in which citizens literally applaud for the people putting themselves most at risk during the COVID-19 crisis to help others. Something similar is happening in New York City every evening at 7 P.M. ET: People open their doors and windows and clap for doctors, nurses, and other medical workers.

This surprise appearance comes on Prince Louis’s second birthday, which the Cambridges celebrated by posting some cute new pics of the little guy to Instagram. He’s becoming quite the little artist, huh?

Earlier this month, Kate Middleton and Prince William gave an interview to BBC where they talked about how the family is doing in quarantine. Prince William opened up about his father Prince Charles’s coronavirus diagnosis, specifically.

“I have to admit at first I was quite concerned,” he said. “He fits the profile of somebody at the age he’s at, which is, you know, fairly risky. And so I was a little bit worried. But my father has had many chest infections, colds, things like that over the years. And so, I thought to myself, If anybody is going to be able to beat this, it’s going to be him.”

He continued, “I think the hardest thing he found was having to stop and not being able to go and get a bit of fresh air and go for a walk. He’s a mad walker, just loves his walking, so I think he found it quite difficult. Especially, I think also with his mental health, being stuck inside and not being able to go for walks.”

Thankfully, Prince Charles is doing just fine now.

Kate Middleton and Prince William Just Shared a Rare Photo of Their Home on Easter Sunday

Kate Middleton and Prince William just gave fans a rare glimpse at their home in celebration of Easter. The royal couple usually joins Queen Elizabeth II at St. George’s Chapel for a church service, however, this year will be different as they’re all observing the holiday separately amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic—just like many families around the world.

On Sunday, April 13 the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge marked the occasion by sharing a stunning exterior shot of their London residence, Kensington Palace, surrounded by yellow daffodils. “Wishing you all a safe and happy Easter,” they captioned the post, which was accompanied by a bunny rabbit, a chick emoji and the hashtag #StayHomeSaveLives.

Middleton and Prince William recently gave us a never-before-seen peek at their home office as they continue their royal duties from home. Now, they’re just spoiling us.

Of course, this Instagram is not the only way post honoring the holiday on their page. On April 8, the royal couple surprised a group of teachers and students in the U.K. with an Easter video call—and there were many bunny ears involved.

Meanwhile, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge aren’t the only members of the royal family to share messages on Easter—and it looks like flowers were the central theme for Prince Charles and Princess Eugenie’s posts as well.

The Queen also shared a message of encouragement in what is reportedly Her Majesty’s first-ever Easter address, according to The Daily Mail. The Queen, who turns 94 later this month, is social distancing at Windsor Castle with Prince Philip. In her speech, she urged the public to continue practicing social distancing.

“This year, Easter will be different for many of us, but by keeping apart we keep others safe,” she said. “But Easter isn’t canceled; indeed, we need Easter as much as ever.

“We know that coronavirus will not overcome us. As dark as death can be—particularly for those suffering with grief—light and life are greater,” the monarch added. “May the living flame of the Easter hope be a steady guide as we face the future.”

Kate Middleton and Prince William Surprised Students and Teachers With a Sweet Video Call

These days, our news feeds are filled with sobering statistics and devastating on-the-ground stories from the frontline. Of course—there’s a global pandemic happening, and it’s important to know the facts and learn how to best keep ourselves and others safe. But life is all about balance, which means we need to see and hear heartwarming tales too. A delightful Hamilton reunion, Ina Garten’s wildly large cosmopolitan recipe, Lizzo’s failed attempts at making bougie coffee—these things spark joy. And Kate Middleton and Prince William are the latest public figures to do their part, surprising teachers and students in the U.K. with an endearing video call.

A recap of their check-in was posted to the Kensington Palace Instagram account on Wednesday, April 8. “Teachers across the UK are dedicating their time to keeping schools open for the children of key workers and vulnerable children,” the caption reads. “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge called teachers and school staff at Casterton Primary Academy to thank them for their hard work and dedication — and to wish the children a very Happy Easter.”

In the video, Kate and Will are at their most charming, praising the kids on their art skills, casually introducing themselves as “Catherine and William,” and openly regretting that they didn’t put on bunny ears for the occasion. At one point, Kate even teases William for eating the family’s stash of chocolate.

They do get sentimental as well, thanking the staff for their hard work taking care of the children of key workers. “All the parents who are key workers to know their children are…the normality is there for them and they’ve got the structure and they’ve got a safe place to be…so really, really well done to all of you,” Kate says to several of the school workers. “I know it’s not easy circumstances, but it’s fantastic.”

It’s rare to see the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge this relatable and low-key. Now that I’ve had a taste, I want more. I mean, they haven’t even figured out their best Zoom angles!

People on Twitter seem to agree. “My heart is melting,” one user wrote. “This is why we love the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge,” another said. The best summary only took three words: “Simplicity. Sincerity. Efficiency.”

Every Time Kate Middleton and Prince William Have Shown PDA

The Polo Match Congrats

In 2011, the newlyweds set off on a North American tour, and the world became even more enamored of the couple. They shared a quick kiss after a polo match in California, and that’s not something we’ve seen often over the years.

The Side Hug

The duke and duchess have proven they’re very competitive with each other during their many royal engagements. But there’s nothing but love when it’s over, like after this boat race in 2011.

The Olympic Spirit

Middleton and Prince William were often in the stands during the 2012 Olympics in London—and they weren’t afraid to get excited while cheering on their fellow Brits.

The Snowball Fight

The world (rightfully) doesn’t usually see photos when the Cambridges go on vacation. But during a 2016 ski trip to the French Alps, they did a photo call that resulted in a highly adorable snowball fight.

The Honey, You’ve Got Something Right There…

Nothing says, “We’ve been together forever” like getting some schmutz off your partner’s face while sitting in the royal box at Wimbledon.

The Wedding Feels

During Princess Eugenie’s 2018 wedding, cameras captured Middleton affectionately touching her husbands leg. Prince William also lent a gentle hand to his wife’s back as they walked through the church. Weddings make everyone feel sentimental, guys—even royals!

The Irish Walk

Kate Middleton and Prince William’s most recent royal tour in Ireland has given the world a couple of very sweet moments as they walked in the country to Howth Cliff. Honestly, they should frame that one of them from the back.

Why Prince William and Kate Middleton Are Reportedly Taking a Break From Their Royal Duties

It looks like Prince William and Kate Middleton are taking a page out of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s playbook…if only for a hot second.

According to Us Weekly, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be taking a break from royal duties in the next few weeks when their children Prince George and Princess Charlotte are on vacation from school. The six- and four-year-olds both attend Thomas’ Battersea in London and have a half-term break toward the end of February. Prince William and Middleton will also use that period to spend more time with 22-month-old Prince Louis.

This brief hiatus falls after Prince Harry and Markle unexpectedly stepped back from their royal duties in January, followed shortly by a move to Canada. Since then, it’s been reported that Middleton’s responsibilities increased significantly, causing her some stress. “Kate’s in a panic and has been having bouts of anxiety,” a source told Us Weekly back in January. “She barely has time to rest, and when she does try to sleep, her mind is constantly racing.”

Still, the added pressure has reportedly strengthened her relationship with Prince William. Another source told Us Weekly that the duke and duchess have been “supporting each other” throughout the adjustment period. “The Cambridges are busier than ever since Harry and Meghan left the U.K. You’d think their hectic schedule would put strain on the marriage, but it’s actually brought them closer together,” the source said.

Prince Harry and Markle have been enjoying their life in Vancouver and are taking trips to Miami and Stanford University. They’re set to return to the U.K. for a visit in March.

“The queen’s hoping everyone will put on a united front when Harry returns to London in March—even though there’s still tension behind closed doors,” a source told Us Weekly. “It’ll be interesting to watch their body language and see how they are together.”

Kate Middleton and Prince William Reportedly Didn't Like the Royals Jokes Made at the BAFTAs

Remember when Brad Pitt‘s speech at the BAFTAs included a joke about Prince Harry and everyone laughed? Including (seemingly) Kate Middleton and Prince William, who were in attendance? Well, it turns out that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge may have been putting on a happy face at the BAFTAs this past Sunday (February 2). According to one source, the couple was not pleased with the jokes made at the royal family’s expense.

“The feedback is that many of the stars stepped out of line in front of the patron, which is the Duke of Cambridge,” U.K. media commentator Neil Sean told Fox News. The most notable, heavily-reported Hollywood rib at their expense definitely goes to Pitt, who won Best Supporting Actor for his role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He wasn’t able to attend, but Margot Robbie accepted the award and gave a speech on his behalf.

“[Brad] says that he is going to name [his award] Harry,” Robbie said. “Because he is really excited about bringing it back to the States with him… His words, not mine!” That’s when the camera panned, and we supposedly saw the duke and duchess react good-naturedly.

“This was not met with the smiling faces that you saw on the final edited version of the show,” Sean said, seemingly alleging that the broadcast had been changed in some way.

But the worst moment for the royals, according to Sean, came from actor Rebel Wilson. The Cats star chose to poke fun at a much more serious royal scandal: Prince Andrew’s ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

“It is really great to be here at the Royal Andrew… uh, Royal Harry, no, at this royal palace place,” Wilson joked while presenting the award for Best Director. The camera, of course, cut to Will and Kate.

Apparently, the royals were so offended that they’re reportedly looking into ways to prevent moments like this in the future. “A mole also told me that to ensure that the royals are not embarrassed or made fun of again at such a prestigious event like this one…they will have a ‘moral clause’ inserted into their acceptance agreement ensuring that due reverence is given to the royal couple who gave their time and support to such a wonderful celebration of film and is respected,” Sean told Fox News.

Woof. At least Kate Middleton and Prince William’s exchange with actor Jaoquin Phoenix was delightful.
