The Downton Abbey Movie Is Officially Filming, and the Cast Can't Stop Celebrating


Fans who were devastated about Downton Abbey ending received a shining beacon of hope over the summer when news broke a movie adaption of the hit series is happening. Not much is known about the plot at this time, but so many of your favorites from the original series are returning, including Michelle Dockery, Hugh Bonneville, Maggie Smith, and Joanne Froggatt (according to Entertainment Weekly). If that’s not enough to get you pumped, though, then these new Instagram posts from the cast celebrating the first day back shooting will definitely do the trick.

It all kicked off with Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary Crawley), who took to the social media site on Monday and wrote, “And…we’re off ?@downtonabbey_official.” She accompanied her caption with a black-and-white snap of a shot being set up behind-the-scenes. Check it out for yourself, below:

Allen Leech (Tom Branson) then posted a photo of himself and cast-mates Hugh Bonneville (Robert Crawley) and Michael C. Fox (Andrew Parker) playing golf in between rehearsals for the film. Listen, sometimes drinking beer and playing sports helps you get into character for period dramas!

Bonneville actually skipped the first day of filming to see Elizabeth McGovern (Cora Crawley) in a play she’s starring in right now. Who says you can’t work and play at the same time?

“Was so lovely to be sat next to some of these beauties again today while we were having make up tests. So excited to start filming,” Joanne Froggatt (Anna Bates) posted to Instagram alongside a photo of several women from Downton Abbey a few days before filming kicked off.

To say this cast is obsessed with each other is an understatement. We’ll post more photos from the cast filming as they come in.

Evangeline Lilly Powerfully Explained How She Stood Up For Herself While Filming 'Ant-Man and The Wasp'


The Marvel Universe is expanding yet again with the release of Ant-Man and The Wasp, the sequel to 2015’s Ant-Man, on July 6. In its title alone, the film is a small step forward for gender equity in the superhero franchise: With Evangeline Lilly (you might recognize her as Kate from Lost) and Paul Rudd starring in the titular roles, it’s the first time that Marvel has ever released a movie with male and female characters equally sharing the bill.

That significance isn’t lost on Lilly, who shared in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter that playing Hope van Dyne, a.k.a. The Wasp, required her to speak up on-set about the character’s trajectory and representation in practically every scene. Off camera, Lilly made a point to advocate for herself and her character to her male co-stars and coworkers, despite societal norms that tell women to stay quiet. “[I] think there is an unconscious message for little girls and women that when you challenge men in the midst of doing something juvenile or fun, then you’re a heavy, a killjoy, a ball and chain,” she said. “And all my life I grew up thinking, ‘I swear I won’t be that way, I’ll be cool, I’ll be fun, I’m going to be the chick that can hang with the guys.'”

But that approach changed while reprising her role as The Wasp for the new film: “[I] really challenged myself on this film to shut out all of those critical voices and the male pressures to conform and to really stand up and be a female voice in this world,” she told THR.

Lilly, best known for her roles in Lost and 2013 fantasy film The Hobbit, explained that acting in sci-fi and action roles often leads to scenarios where women are overlooked or ignored—forcing her to speak up. “I think I always tried to offer a perspective of my gender that maybe wasn’t offered as much because I live in worlds that are boys’ clubs,” she said. “In the sci-fi/fantasy space of Hollywood, it’s even more predominately male than in some of the other dramatic spaces, so I’m used to trying to be that voice in the room.”

Part of challenging the patriarchy came from interpreting traditionally “feminine” qualities as strengths for her character. “Even for the first film, it was very important to me that Hope be an extremely empathetic and compassionate person. And I still did that while having that stereotypical or archetypical [quality] of femininity of being nurturing, compassionate, empathetic,” she explained. “Men can of course be compassionate or feminine, but femininity is at the core of what is disrespected in the patriarchy, so it was important to me to always push for feminine qualities to be apparent when she is dealing with situations—how she emotionally reacts to them, [for instance].”

Lilly added that double standards weren’t just on her mind while filming: They also manifest in the challenges faces as a mother and a professional. “[I] just want to be very open and honest about how difficult it is for me to strike that balance,” she said about working full-time while raising her children. “I don’t think it’s easy for any mother who works. And I’ve grappled with this a lot: Is it harder for women to work and be a mother than it is for fathers to work and be fathers?”

Lilly thinks the answer is, unfortunately, yes. But with her new film, she’s optimistic that women can see multifaceted characters like themselves represented on-screen. “I think it’s really fresh and really fun to see a woman who knows how to take a joke and roll with things, but also can get the job done,” she concluded.

The Ocean's 8 Cast Insisted They Stop Filming So Anne Hathaway Could Pump Her Breast Milk


Not only has Ocean’s 8 hit number one at the box office, but the behind-the-scenes stories that have come to light during the film’s press tour have made it number one in our hearts, especially the ones about the all-star cast having each other’s backs. The most recent tale of women supporting women on the set of the film comes from Anne Hathaway, who revealed that the cast demanded that they stop filming so that she could pump her breast milk.

In an interview on Today with Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie, new mom Hathaway, who appeared with fellow actresses Sandra Bullock, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Mindy Kaling, and Cate Blanchett, discussed the solid her costars did her when it came time to pump. “I was so happy because I was breastfeeding and I had that moment where I was like, ‘Oh, is this going to be a positive environment to be able to do that in?’ Everybody was fantastic and they understood,” she said. “I remember there was one moment where we were shooting a little long, and I just kind of went, ‘Uhhh,’ and the girls were like ‘What’s wrong?’ And I said, ‘I’m sorry, I should have pumped an hour ago.’ And the girls just, like, formed around me, and they were like, ‘We need a break. We need a break. Annie needs to go do this.’ And it was just, like, I mean, who gets that?”

Hathaway was quick to point out that everyone should get that kind of support, no matter where they work or who their coworkers are.

The women also said in the interview that they became each other’s resources for parenting and general life tips, like where to get Halloween costumes for their children (just don’t ask for Blanchett’s help—she hand-makes hers). And previously, Hathaway has said that Bullock, Blanchett, and Rihanna all made her feel more comfortable in her post-baby body when she showed up on set in a new pair of jeans and all three complimented her look. “Damn, girl! You got an ass!” Rihanna said, according to Hathaway.

Let’s hope there’s a sequel to Ocean’s 8 just so this group of women can hang out more. Watch the full interview, below.

'Big Little Lies' Season 2 Will Reportedly Start Filming in 2018


It’s (almost) official: Big Little Lies is coming back for a second season on HBO.

On Thursday, Variety reported that Reece Witherspoon, executive producer and star of the show, has dropped out of Noah Hawley’s Fox Searchlight film Pale Blue Dot to make room in her schedule for Big Little Lies instead. HBO has not confirmed that a season two is indeed in the works to the media, however, TVLine reported that the team behind the wildly successful show are eyeing a 2018 production schedule.

And although it may seem like a no-brainer to greenlight a hit show that won eight Emmy awards, approving a show starring four A-list actresses, each with their own jam-packed schedules, is far more complicated than it appears.

“We’re kicking around ideas and trying to lasso the talent [and] get the band back together,” Big Little Lies EP/writer David E. Kelley told TVLine in late October. “It’s just a lot of logistical things. But I’m optimistic because everyone wants to do it. We feel we still have storytelling to do. No decision has been made yet, but we’re hopeful. Where we left it, I felt like it did open the opportunity for a lot more storytelling.”

And don’t worry about the writing on season two: Deadline reports that Big Little Lies author Liane Moriarty has already written a short novella that picks up where season one left off.

The one person who won’t be returning to the HBO set is director Jean-Marc Vallée, who, according to TVLine, has scheduling conflicts. The show is now apparently on the hunt for a female director, which could help this already stellar show become even better the second time around.

Lili Reinhart Says Filming Kissing Scenes With Cole Sprouse Is 'Comfortable'


Riverdale co-stars Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse are keeping their off-screen relationship hush-hush, but what they do on screen is more than public knowledge. Their characters, Betty Cooper and Jughead Jones, are an item on Riverdale, and show-runners have been hinting for months that trouble’s ahead for them. For now, though, they’re still pretty lovey-dovey. Granted, they haven’t turned the heat up quite like Archie and Veronica have (um, that shower scene?), but they do kiss on the show—often. And two weeks ago Betty implied to her mother she and Jughead almost had sex, so it’s safe to say there’s still a ton of passion between them.

That passion, according to Reinhart, isn’t uncomfortable to shoot, either. In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, the young actress reveals the Riverdale core four have no qualms about kissing each other on screen.

“I think we’re all so comfortable with one another that it’s not even really a thing,” she said. “If we have a kissing scene, it’s fine. We don’t really think twice about it. When new characters have to kiss, it’s a little different and you’re like, ‘Oh, OK! What this?’ But it’s easy, we’re all friends. It would be more nerve-wracking if you had to make out with someone that you didn’t know. So if by chance we do end up having to kiss each other, it’s fine and it doesn’t feel weird.”

Notice how Reinhart strategically says the word “friends.” She makes no indication that she and Sprouse are more than that. When asked about him, all Reinhart said was, “We get along quite well. We’re doing good.” Ugh, all these evasive responses.

Of course, Reinhart doesn’t have to say anything about her relationship with Sprouse, but all this kissing talk will definitely drive their fans nuts. At this rate, we may never know what’s happening between. Hey, at least we’ll always have Bughead.

Blake Lively Spills on Filming Sex Scenes While Being Married to Ryan Reynolds

It may seem like being in the same industry as your spouse could create unnecessary tension and competition. But according to Blake Lively, the pros of being married to another actor far outweigh the potential cons. While appearing on Good Morning America on Monday to promote her new film All I See Is You, the actress opened up about how being married to Ryan Reynolds has impacted her work.

“In general, it’s nice to have somebody who understands what you’re doing. Especially because our job is so weird—you have to be married to other people, it’s all so strange. It’s never normal, even when we’re both doing it,” she said. “But it’s helpful to know when you’re acting that you’re in a relationship with someone, that that’s not what’s actually happening. Because I have friends who aren’t married to someone who’s in the business, so they’re like, ‘Oh, so you’re not actually making love in that scene?!’ And I’m like, ‘No, no, no, no, definitely not.'”

And speaking of vulnerable scenes, earlier this month, the 30-year-old shared that she decided to break her no-nudity rule for All I See Is You, in which she plays a blind woman who regains her sight in her late 20s and soon realizes that her extremely codependent marriage isn’t what it seems. Lively told Vanity Fair that before reading the script for the psychological drama, she had always found onscreen nudity “distracting.” “I’m very in love with my husband, but if there’s a pair of boobs out, I’m a human being! You’re like, ‘boobs!’ It doesn’t mean I’m lusting for them, but when there’s naked boobies, you look at them,” she said.

The actress opened up about her easygoing relationship with Reynolds in an interview with Glamour earlier this year. “In other relationships, if something came up, I would call my girlfriends or my sister, and say, ‘Hey, this is what he did—what should I do?'” she said. “Where with him, we were friends for two years before we were ever dating. And I treat him like my girlfriend. I’m like, ‘Hey, this happened. It upset me. This is how I feel. What do I do?’ And he does the same for me. He treats me like his best buddy.”
