Hugh Grant Is Recreating Love Actually Scenes To Try To Stop Brexit


For years, Grant had a reputation as a charming playboy. Reports of his romantic life, coupled with his wink-y, roguish interview style, gave him an appearance more like one of his bad-boy characters than a woke activist. But though his dimples are the same, his behavior has changed over the years. Grant’s Twitter account, complete with a picture of Audrey Hepburn dressed as a nun, posts constant political content. He’s also an active board member at Hacked Off, a campaign to hold press in the UK accountable. His quotes these days contain fewer and fewer witticisms about tea with the Queen and more comments like his August tweet in which he raged against current Prime Minister Boris Johnson, “You will not f**k with my children’s future. You will not destroy the freedoms my grandfather fought two world wars to defend.”

Asked by reporters about his habit of knocking on random doors, Grant referenced a gig from long before his Love Actually days. “I did used to sell fire extinguishers door-to-door,” he said. “I was very good.”

Ah, Hugh! Same dry humor, new desire to make the world a better place for his grandchildren. It’s just like he says—“If you look for it, I’ve got a sneaky feeling you’ll find that love actually is all around.” And if you open your door in London this week, Hugh Grant might actually be all around.

This Is How Kate Middleton Is Reportedly Trying to Help Meghan Markle Behind the Scenes


There are very few people in the world who can relate to what Meghan Markle‘s life has been like since becoming a royal, but Kate Middleton is one of them. Of course, neither woman’s experience is exactly the same and neither were their lives before marrying Prince William and Prince Harry—but man, they must have a lot to talk about.

Given Markle’s recent comments about not being “okay” and the struggles she has faced with the British tabloid press, it’s not surprising to hear from royal sources that Middleton is trying to help her sister-in-law. “Behind the scenes I’m told Kate is doing her best to bring everyone together and help Meghan,” Phil Dampier, who has written several books on the royals, told Express UK. “I’m told she has reached out to Meghan and spoken to her on the phone. Kate feels sorry for her and knows that Meghan is struggling.”

“Any woman, especially when they’re pregnant, you’re really vulnerable and so that was made really challenging,” the Duchess of Sussex told journalist Tom Bradby in Harry and Meghan: An African Journey. “And then when you have a newborn, you know—especially as a woman, it’s really, it’s a lot.”

Middleton, of course, has gone through three pregnancies in the public eye with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. But she suffered some of her most harsh press before she and William were married in 2011, when she was dubbed “Waity Katie” by the tabloids and her family’s commoner status was often discussed. Some of the criticism of Markle has been racially-tinged, which is an obvious difference, but the two women both came from the non-royal world and have had to adapt to the ways and protocols of the family.

It would seem natural for them to lean on each other at times—hopefully over a nice glass of wine.

Global Climate Strike: The Most Powerful Scenes Worldwide


In more than 3,600 locations around the world today, students walked out of classrooms and took to the streets to demand action to fight climate change. This is the third climate strike that teens have led in 2019 and it will kick off the first-ever UN Youth Climate Summit in New York on Saturday. The movement began 12 months ago, when 16-year-old Greta Thunberg started protesting alone on Fridays outside of the Swedish Parliament building in Stockholm to call attention to the environmental crisis. Thunberg—who addressed Congress on the subject earlier this week—spent the afternoon marching in New York, alongside other teen activists.

And nationwide, girls in particular took a stand, demanding more from their parents and their politicians. Kate Puharich, a Chicago-based high school freshman told the Chicago Tribune that she’d “always been told, ‘Just wait when you’re older to get into politics.'” But when she saw the United Nations report that the damage done to the environment will become irreversible by 2030, she thought, “Wow, I can’t wait that long.”

Others echoed her demand for urgent action. “I’d rather go protest about the Earth and how something’s going wrong than sit in my classroom and act like nothing’s happening,” one high school student shared with the radio station WOSU in Columbus, Ohio.

“It’s our futures—if we don’t stand up now then eventually it will be too late,” San Francisco eighth grader Lily Salazar told Mercury News. “We’re going to have to live with it.”

There’s a Very Awkward Fact You Don’t Know About Emilia Clarke’s ‘Game of Thrones’ Sex Scenes


Game of Thrones is famous for many things: surprise beheadings, complex political machinations, dragons, and, yes, sex scenes. Over the course of the past eight seasons, there have been a lot of them—many involving actress Emilia Clarke, who plays the mother of dragons, Daenerys Targaryen.

Honestly, I can’t even imagine filming something so intimate in front of a crew of people. But Clarke revealed last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live that there was another factor that made her feel even more awkward than usual: Her brother works in the camera department on the show. Most of the time, Clarke says it’s “brilliant” to have family around, but not so much when it came time to shoot her sex scenes with Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow.

“Yeah, there’s some days when he’s like, ‘Oh, I’ll swing by’ and I’m like, ‘No, it’s good! You can stay there,'” Clarke says. When Kimmel asked who would be more embarrassed in that situation, Clarke emphatically answers, “Definitely him.” Oof. Luckily, it seems she was able to keep him away on those days.

The actress also revealed she “felt a little weird” when it came time for Harington to ride a dragon, but that he was sure he could do it easily. “He was kind of arrogant about it,” she says. “But that’s when I learned that men riding dragons is like a whole other thing than a lady who rides a dragon. [It’s] a little more uncomfortable for them.” To this, Kimmel responded, “Because of the human testicles,” which, fair point.
