Bekah Martinez's Breastfeeding Photo Brought Out The Mommy Shamers

Bachelor fan favorite Bekah Martinez is enjoying mom life after revealing late last year that she was pregnant with her first child. But on Tuesday she sent the Internet into a frenzy after posting a photo of herself breastfeeding while holding a glass of wine—something that had mommy shamers calling her out en masse, even though most medical experts agree that alcohol in careful moderation will not affect a baby while nursing.

To be clear, Martinez did make sure people knew she wasn’t breastfeeding and drinking at the same time. In the caption she wrote that she “was waiting patiently for her [daughter] to finish nursing before beginning my (single!) glass of wine :).”

That didn’t stop the torrent of angry comments: “Just stop breastfeeding [if] you can’t commit to your daughter,” one person said. Another piped in, “How stupid are you?”

Breastfeeding and drinking—as long as it’s in moderation—is fine according to most experts. The CDC says that while not drinking is the safest option, “generally, moderate alcohol consumption by a breastfeeding mother (up to one standard drink per day) is not known to be harmful to the infant, especially if the mother waits at least two hours after a single drink before nursing.” As some commenters pointed out, it doesn’t appear that Martinez was guzzling an entire bottle; she simply planned to have one glass after feeding her baby.

Martinez, who keeps things pretty personal, isn’t the only mom who has been questioned for her breastfeeding habits. The situation was pretty similar to one Jessie James Decker found herself tangled in last year; she laid down the law, telling mommy shamers she didn’t care what they thought.

Moments like these are indicative of a larger judgment that woman face when they become new moms or reveal that they’re expecting. Just this month a pregnant woman’s Reddit post went viral when she explained that a stranger at her local coffee shop grabbed a drink out of her hand and threw it in the trash, saying, “You can’t have it, you’re not allowed.”

Even when it’s well-intentioned, those who aren’t informed simply shouldn’t make comments, let alone decisions about women’s bodies. Period. (FYI, having a coffee while you’re pregnant isn’t harmful, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists—a.k.a. the people who are informed enough to make decisions about maternal health.) Just another reminder that mom shaming is rarely helpful or productive.

Sarah Jessica Parker Just Brought Carrie Bradshaw Back, and We're So Here for It

Hold onto your Manolos: Sarah Jessica Parker just teased the return of her Sex and the City character, Carrie Bradshaw, in an Instagram video.

On Saturday, January 19, the actress shared a video of herself in character strutting up the streets of New York City in a nod to the iconic SATC intro. The brief clip—which was even set to the SATC theme—features SJP in a very Carrie-meets-vintage-Madonna outfit: a pair of white lace heels, gloves, seafoam tulle skirt, purple beaded clutch.

In the video’s caption, SJP confirmed that her beloved character is back for an important reason. “My old friend. She is making a brief reappearance. Partnering with a great brand and supporting a cause we all care about. More to come. X, SJ,” Parker wrote.

You can check it out the video for yourself below:

If you think you’re excited, even Andy Cohen and Katherine Schwarzenegger couldn’t contain their excitement in the comments section, with Cohen writing “I <3 CB” and Schwarzenegger commenting “omg omg omg.”

After all the recent drama surrounding the show, we never thought we’d see Carrie again outside of our insomnia-driven/hungover/lazy Saturday/let’s-face-it-whenever SATC binges. Unfortunately, however, this definitely isn’t a promo for a Sex and the City 3 since it’s been confirmed that the movie isn’t going to happen. There were once, after all, rumors of a three-quel for a while now, but those hopes and dreams are no more. In all likelihood, from what her caption indicates, it’s a preview of an upcoming brand partnership—one with a social responsibility angle, maybe?—that will feature SJP in character as Carrie—and well, we’ll definitely be happy with that.

Serena Williams Brought Back the Catsuit for the 2019 Australian Open

Serena Williams‘ signature catsuits have been the subject of public fascination since she returned to the tennis court last summer for the French Open, wearing a formfitting black style from Nike that would go on to be banned by the French Tennis Federation. (The Women’s Tennis Association stood by Williams, updating its dress codes to approve “mid-thigh-length compression shorts” like hers.) Now, for her first tournament of 2019, the G.O.A.T. is making it clear that the look isn’t going away any time soon.

On January 15, Williams faced Tatjana Maria at the Australian Open in Melbourne. She not only won her first match of the competition, but she did so wearing a familiar silhouette.

Williams appeared on the court wearing another custom catsuit by Nike. Unlike the French Open one, this version was short and green, with black and white stripe details and a keyhole cut-out in the back.

Ever since she began her career in the mid-1990s, Williams has dominated the tennis court not only with her incredible skill, but with her sense of style. Her latest Nike outfit offers her fans the slightest throwback to the start of her fashion journey: Its reminiscent of her original catsuit, designed by Puma for the 2002 U.S. Open.

Williams’ Australia Open look is her first catsuit since the 2018 French Open. It was her first tournament since giving birth, and the divisive look was specifically engineered to prevent blood clots. Though the French Tennis Federation wasn’t a fan of it. Nike stood by the athlete, calling Williams a “superhero.”

Williams didn’t seem too concerned, though: She told ESPN she likely wouldn’t wear that catsuit again, anyway, because “when it comes to fashion, you don’t want to be a repeat offender.”

Her Australia Open uniform already has a big fan: Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, tweeted that he was “here” for her romper.

Meghan Markle Brought Back Her Wedding Hair For Her First Trip to Sussex

When Meghan Markle and Prince Harry arrived in the English county of Sussex on Wednesday, all was right in the world: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were, appropriately, in Sussex. Markle and Prince Harry were back on their joint royal outing grind, and Markle’s hair had made its triumphant return to her now-famous low, slightly undone bun. This is the first time we’ve seen the bun in a while, since she’s taken to wearing her hair down and either pin-straight or in beachy waves for recent appearances.

In fact, the duchess’s hairstyle on Wednesday was almost exactly the same as the look she wore to her wedding in May—so perhaps it was paying homage to the day she received her Sussex title. The bun was low and securely pinned to the nape of her neck, her hair was parted right down the middle, and a few face-framing tendrils were loosely curled and left free to add movement and soften the look.

It makes sense that Markle would repeat this style time and time (and time) again, since, as her wedding hairstylist Serge Normant explained to Glamour, it only takes about 45 minutes to create—less if the day isn’t as important as, you know, your literal wedding day—and perfectly captures Markle’s effortless glam and easygoing vibe. “We wanted something that would have an easy feel to it,” Normant said. “We both knew we wanted to do something very loose in the back and soft in the front…I know everyone’s fixating on the word ‘messy,’ but it was more like unstructured volume. A low bun in the back with dimension.”

The rest of her look for the appearance was similarly attainable and down-to-earth. Her green silk shirt, for example, is less than $100 from & Other Stories.

Markle and Prince Harry are in Sussex just for the day. So far, per social media updates from Kensington Palace, they’ve received an extremely warm welcome from the locals, visited one of just two existing authentic copies of the Declaration of Independence, and headed on to the University of Chichester. Next up, they’ll travel to East Sussex, where they’ll visit the Royal Pavilion, the Survivors Network of Britain, and the Peacehaven Youth Centre.

Sandra Oh Brought Her Parents to the Emmy Awards, and Twitter Is Obsessed

Sandra Oh made Emmy history this year as the first Asian woman nominated as outstanding lead actor in a drama series, thanks to her role in BBC America’s Killing Eve. But it was her parents who stole the show at the ceremony on Monday night (September 17) when they accompanied their daughter on the red carpet.

PHOTO: Joe Scarnici

Joon-soo and Young-nam Oh even joined the actress and Grey’s Anatomy alum in front of the cameras—most notably, to gush about Sandra during an interview with Variety. “I’m so proud of her,” Young-nam said before planting a kiss on her daughter’s cheek.

“Oh my God, that happened on film!” Sandra said in response.

Watch the sweet moment, below:

People also noted that Mrs. Oh wore a hanbok, a Korean dress often worn at formal celebrations and ceremonies, to the Emmys. (Sandra actually wore a modern take on a hanbok to the SAG awards in 2008.) For many, Mrs. Oh’s dress was a proud moment of representation. Mr. Oh, meanwhile, looked dashing in his tux.

“Sandra Oh’s mother is wearing a hanbok and has done more for East Asian representation on television than all the broadcasts networks combined,” one Twitter user wrote. Writer and Sleepy Hollow showrunner Albert Kim tweeted, “Sandra Oh’s mom wore a hanbok to the Emmys! There is a hanbok at the Emmys! Forget K-pop, THIS is the sign that Koreans have arrived.” See more Twitter reactions to the Oh family, below:

Throughout the night, the camera panned to Sandra’s parents sitting next to her, and they excitedly cheered her on as her category was announced. Sandra has received five Emmy nominations for her work on Grey’s Anatomy but never won, and many hoped this year would be her big moment. However, The Crown‘s Claire Foy ended up receiving the award. Still, we hope this means Sandra will continue getting recognized for her work—and bringing her parents to award shows, obviously.

Evan Rachel Wood Brought Nobel Peace Prize Nominee Amanda Nguyen as Her Plus-One to the 2018 Emmys

There wasn’t an organized Time’s Up or #MeToo protest at the 2018 Emmy Awards like there was at this year’s Golden Globes, but Evan Rachel Wood still found a way to speak out. While attending the ceremony on Monday night, Wood brought as her plus-one Amanda Nguyen, who was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in June for her work on behalf of survivors of sexual assault.

It’s especially notable given that many celebrities brought activists as their plus-ones to other award shows earlier this year, at the very forefront of the Time’s Up movement, but Wood was the only one to do so at the 2018 Emmys.

In an interview with E! News‘s Giuliana Rancic on the red carpet, Wood and Nguyen spoke about their work together; earlier this year, they both testified in front of Congress in support of the Sexual Assault Survivor’s Bill of Rights. “I think we’re at a crucial time in history right now for women, and especially for civil rights. You know, if I have even a little bit of power right now, I want to use it for good,” Wood said.

“I’m also here supporting the ACLU and the fight to reunite immigrant families separated at the border — that’s why I’m wearing the blue ribbon,” she added. “I just feel like it’s important. It’s what I’m called to do. Amanda’s certainly been someone who’s inspired me to do more.”

Nguyen also explained how she and Wood first met. “I gave the speech at the Women’s March and Evan was there. I saw Evan speak, of course, and then we just connected,” she said. “I’m so grateful, again, and it just makes such a difference when we get platforms like this to discuss issues.”

Nguyen, 26, is the founder of Rise, a nonprofit organization that works to expand the rights of assault survivors. In 2016, she helped to draft the Sexual Assault Survivor’s Bill of Rights, which sought to establish a universal standard for care for survivors and subsequently passed unanimously through Congress.
