Skylar Astin Is a Libra Who Eats in Bed and Holds the Door Open for Women

Some people’s fantasies feature rippling muscles, four poster beds, chocolate dripping in unsanitary places. Others fixate on leather, bad boys, the satisfying feeling of doing something a little bit wrong.

And some of us just want to see Skylar Astin in a crew neck sweater, soulfully belting Kelly Clarkson a capella with his eyes closed.

Astin, who starred in the Pitch Perfect movies and Crazy Ex Girlfriend, will once again bring to the screen his specific skill set of looking and sounding as smooth and comforting as a spoonful of peanut butter, straight from the jar. In the new NBC musical TV show Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, Zoey (Jane Levy) gains the ability to hear people’s thoughts…expressed through musical numbers. Astin, as Zoey’s best friend, plays the role he’s perfected: He’s not a “nice guy,” that creepy archetype every woman has experienced, a dude who secretly feels like you owe him sex because he half-listens to your problems. He’s more like a “good person guy,” a genuinely nice man who encourages his female colleague to go for the promotion and expresses his innermost thoughts through Jonas Brothers songs.

That’s hot. So we invited Skylar to answer our Inappropriate Questions, Glamour’s column that asks all the cheeky, slightly off-kilter stuff best saved for a second (or better yet, third) date. Read on for his take on who should pay for dates, his extreme glow-up, and the messiest thing he does in bed…

Glamour: You stop by a convenience store on your way to a party. What are you buying to bring?

Skylar Astin: Probably booze, right? Definitely Tequila if they have it, or if not, a 12-rack of beer, probably Dos Equis.

What was the worst thing you’ve ever done on a date?

I forgot my wallet once. I’d made the person come to my side of town, and we’d been making jokes about how I would definitely pay. I knew she would pay, but I was so embarrassed. I had to say, “I’m mortified about this, but is there any chance you’ll stay here for 20 minutes and I’ll just go back and get it?” Thank god I was very close to my house.

What is the most inappropriate thing a fan has ever said to you?

Oh, comments like, “You look better on camera,” or, “You look better in person.” Either of those is like….well, what are you saying about the other thing? Also mistaking me for someone else, that happens a lot. I’ve gotten Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the guy from How I Met Your Mother, Zachary Levi, Dane Cook. But really, I tend to be just fine!

What’s something that everyone seems to love but you dislike?

I never got into the Kardashians. But I really understand why people do! But it never struck me.

What’s the sexiest thing about yourself?

I like to think that I don’t take myself too seriously, and I have a pretty healthy balance of drive and humor. I’m a Libra, through and through.

You believe in astrology?

I do! I do. I don’t live my life by it completely, but I think it’s fascinating. There’s definitely many truths to it. I felt more compatible with certain friendships. Even in some relationships, I’ve felt like, “Oh that’s weird, I’ve dated the most of this kind of sign.” And like, “Oh, my mother and my brother are both this sign.” It’s little stuff like that.

What’s your type?

I’m open to any kind of connection. But generally I don’t really like anyone who has any narcissistic tendencies. Someone who is open, friendly, kind, but also self-assured, without being cocky. Someone who’s got their own thing going on. And someone who I respect and admire. That, generally, is a turn-on for me.

Renée Zellweger Says She's Open to Reprising Her Role as Bridget Jones

After a few years out of the spotlight, Renée Zellweger is back in our lives in a big way. The actor was just nominated for her fourth Academy Award, for her critically-acclaimed performance as Judy Garland in Judy. (She won for Best Supporting Actress in 2004 for Cold Mountain.)

The actor has played so many memorable roles over the course of her career but none is perhaps as beloved as Bridget Jones. Based on the best-selling novel by Helen Fielding, Zellweger made her onscreen debut as the titular character in Bridget Jones’s Diary in 2001, followed by Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason in 2004 and Bridget Jones’s Baby in 2016. And in a new interview with Vanity Fair, she said she’s open to revisiting the lovably messy character once again.

When asked if there would be another installment of the hit franchise, she said…maybe: “It would be fun, yeah. I know people are coy. I’m not. I promise I’m not. I just don’t know.”

“I mean, that’s a Helen [Fielding, the author] question, but I hope she would want to,” Zellweger continued. “I know she wrote a book , so maybe. I’m always the last to know. They’re already building sets, and they call me and say, “What do you think?” It’s fun. It’s so much fun. Man, I’d love the experience of revisiting her. I love her. I just think she’s so much fun. She’s the best. Sure, if I got invited to do that, that sounds like fun.”

Well, that sounds incredibly promising, doesn’t it? When last we left our dear Bridget on the big screen, she was a new forty-something mom and finally married to Mark Darcy (Colin Firth). Though the plot of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy (which was written before Bridget Jones’s Baby) offers up plenty of fodder for a possible new film.

And considering nostalgia-inducing reboots, revivals, and sequel are all the rage in Hollywood, we wouldn’t be surprised (but very thrilled) if this became a reality in 2020.

Meghan Markle Snuck in a Yoga Class Before the U.S. Open

Meghan Markle seems to have a few non-negotiable rules when she travels. Number one, she’s always dressed like a walking outfit inspo Pinterest board. Number two, she must make time for some self care.

The Duchess of Sussex took a last-minute flight to New York City on Friday, September 6 to watch her close friend, Serena Williams, play in the U.S. Open finals. Before her Saturday afternoon appointment at the highly anticipated match, People reports that Meghan Markle and an unnamed friend dropped by Modo Yoga, an NYC studio that includes a specially heated room, for class on Friday evening.

Despite her high profile, Markle reportedly took her hot yoga class alongside 60 other people. But it seems no one asked Markle what she thinks of Brexit or the upcoming season of The Crown during savasana. A source told People that “there were lots of sweet, knowing smiles” between patrons—and that was it.

Yoga has been part of Markle’s workout regiment since her Suits days, when she could be seen walking around Toronto with her yoga mat. It’s also a pastime handed down by her mother, Doria Ragland, who teaches yoga classes in Los Angeles.

“My mom is a yoga instructor, and I started doing mommy-and-me yoga with her when I was seven,” Markle told Best Health Magazine in 2015. “I was very resistant as a kid, but she said, ‘Flower, you will find your practice—just give it time.’ In college, I started doing it more regularly.”

The studio she visited ahead of the U.S. Open was also part of her pre-royal routine. “She has been going to Modo Yoga for many years and tries to do so whenever she is in New York,” another source told People. “It was the perfect remedy for jet lag.”

Meghan Markle Is Taking a Solo Trip to See Serena Williams Play in the U.S. Open

Meghan Markle is currently coming to the end of her maternity leave, which started with the birth of baby Archie in May. She’ll be launching her new capsule fashion collection benefiting Smart Works, one of her royal patronages, next week. Then she, Prince Harry, and Archie will set off on their first royal tour as a family, a trip to Africa, later this month.

But she’s finding time to squeeze in a solo trip to the United States for a very special reason: Sources confirmed to the Today show that Markle hopped on a plane on Friday, September 6 to travel to New York to watch her good friend Serena Williams play in Saturday’s U.S. Open Finals.

“It is a last-minute trip,” a source told the Times UK. “Excited to support her friend, and then come back.” The report also says she is believed to be traveling without her husband, son, or any staff—only her security team is accompanying her. And given all the controversy surrounding her and Harry’s use of private jets this summer, it should not surprise anyone that the duchess opted to fly commercial for this personal trip.

We all may not have a friend playing in the U.S. Open or the ability to hop on a quick transcontinental flight, the sentiment is relatable: Basically, she’s just being a good friend, as well as squeezing in some personal time before a hectic fall schedule. Markle was a tennis (and Serena fan) well before becoming a royal and has twice joined her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, in the royal box at Wimbledon to watch her pal play.

This U.S. Open Moment Between Naomi Osaka and Cori 'Coco' Gauff Is the Definition of Sisterhood

On Saturday, August 31, Naomi Osaka and Cori “Coco” Gauff faced off in the final round of the U.S. Open for a thrilling match between the two athletes who have been dubbed “the future of women’s tennis.” But in the end, Osaka prevailed over Gauff, beating her 6-3 6-0—and as soon as she won the match point, the two athletes met at the net, exchanged a few words and hugged. But then something downright pure happened—and it’s pretty much the definition of what sisterhood is about.

As a teary-eyed Gauff gathered her belongings, Osaka approached her and asked her to join her for the post-match interview, which is usually reserved for the winning player. Though the 15-year-old initially declined the offer, Osaka assured her that it was OK to cry and encouraged her to seize the opportunity to address the crowd who came to see her.
“These people are here for you,” she told Gauff. “I think it’s better than going into the shower and crying. We have to let these people know how you feel.”

Check it the moment for yourself in the video, below:

It was very similar to when Serena Williams comforted Osaka following the U.S. Open final last year. After Osaka defeated her idol Williams, the veteran tennis star defended her opponent against an upset crowd.

Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lopez, and Other Celebs Sign Powerful Open Letter to Latinx Community

More than 200 Latinx celebrities, activists, and other prominent public figures—including Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lopez, and Eva Longoria—joined forces to sign and publish an open letter to the Latinx community on Friday following ongoing ICE raids, the continuing separation of families at the U.S./Mexico border, and the recent mass shooting in El Paso.

The letter, titled “Querida Familia Latina,” or “Dear Latinx Family,” and written in both Spanish and English, was published in The New York Times, El Nuevo Herald, El Diario, and La Opinión, on Friday, August 16. According to a press release, it was authored by actresses America Ferrera, Eva Longoria, Diane Guerrero, and Olga Segura, director Alex Martinez Kondracke, and activist Mónica Ramírez. Their overall message is one of love, solidarity, and action, and they call on the public to speak up against hate, donate resources as possible to organizations that support the Latinx community, and “hold our leaders accountable.”

“If you are feeling terrified, heartbroken and defeated by the barrage of attacks on our community, you are not alone,” it begins. “We have been smeared by political rhetoric and murdered in violent hate crimes. We have been separated from our families and have watched our children caged. We have been targeted with mass shootings and mass ICE raids meant to terrify us, squash our hope, and break our spirits.”

“But, we will not be broken. We will not be silenced. We will continue to denounce any hateful and inhumane treatment of our community,” the letter continues. “We will demand dignity and justice.”

The letter addresses the Latinx community directly before calling upon its allies for support. “Though real pain and fear are sweeping through our communities, we remain powerful. The indignities and cruelty we have endured will never change the truth that the contributions we make to this country are invaluable. Our humanity must be respected. And, we won’t stop organizing for ourselves, our children, and for the soul of this nation.

“To our allies who feel our community’s pain, we need you. We cannot make change without your voices and action. We call on you to speak out loudly against hate, to contribute your resources to organizations that support our community, and to hold our leaders accountable.”

It closes with a vision for the future: “We ask you to join us in building a better country where we are all safe and valued. May we turn this time of despair into a time of action. May our love for one another be the guiding light in these dark times.”

Signatories include Rosario Dawson, Salma Hayek Pinault, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Zoe Saldana, Wilmer Valderrama, Diego Luna, Ricky Martin, as well as activists Dolores Huerta and Teresa Romero.

Brooklyn 99 star Melissa Fumero also signed.

As did Jane the Virgin‘s Gina Rodriguez.

On Friday, Ferrera also appeared on MSNBC to discuss why it’s important to come together right now, despite what can seem like a constant barrage of terrible news.
