Adele Officiated Her Friend's Wedding—and Then Sang “Rolling in the Deep”

Adele and English author/illustrator Laura Dockrill have been friends for decades—they’re so close, in fact, that Adele wrote the 2008 song “My Same” from her album 19 about their bond. So when Dockrill married The Maccabees musician Hugo White this weekend, Adele went all out: In addition to officiating her pal’s wedding ceremony, the singer grabbed a mic at the Mason’s Arms pub in London and gave a little private concert to all the guests, reportedly performing songs like her own “Rolling in the Deep” and the Spice Girls’ “Spice Up Your Life.”

Adele wasn’t the only celebrity present, either—according to E! News, Chernobyl actor Robert Emms and Florence Welch (of Florence and the Machine) were also on the guest list. At one point, Welch even reportedly joined Adele on stage to sing.

While there aren’t too many social media posts available of Adele’s impromptu wedding concert—hopefully the guests were too busy living in the moment—there is one picture that Dockrill posted on Instagram in which you can see Adele onstage, providing a soundtrack for the newlyweds.

In 2018, Adele shared a photo with Dockrill as well as a link to an essay the author had written about postpartum psychosis. “This is my best friend,” Adele captioned the photo. “We have been friends for more of our lives than we haven’t. She had my beautiful godson 6 months ago and it was the biggest challenge of her life in more ways than one. She has written the most intimate, witty, heartbreaking and articulate piece about her experience of becoming a new mum and being diagnosed with postpartum psychosis. Mamas talk about how you’re feeling because in some cases it could save yours or someone else’s life.”

While being a part of Dockrill’s wedding was certainly a milestone moment for the friendship, this isn’t the first time Adele has married her close pals. In 2018, she officiated a wedding for the English comedian Alan Carr and his partner, Paul Drayton, and even helped plan the whole event, which was held in her own backyard.

“She’s known me and Paul for ages, and she said, ‘I want to do your special day. Let me do everything.’ And she did everything and she got ordained and she married us,” Carr said in an interview later.

And Adele also notoriously organized an elaborate bachelorette party for Jennifer Lawrence at Pieces, a gay bar in New York’s Greenwich Village. When she’s not participating in major life events for her friends, Adele has been keeping a relatively low profile following her divorce last year. She’s only been spotted out a few times, including a vacation with Harry Styles and James Corden

So let’s recap: Adele is a wedding officiant, a wedding planner, and a wedding singer. We can’t wait to see Adele’s take on catering, florals, or bridesmaid duties next!

Adele Is Living Her Best Life on Vacation in Anguilla

Adele is ringing in the New Year with the coolest vacation of all time: She’s currently on the beach in Anguilla with Harry Styles, James Corden and Corden’s wife—which officially makes her the most enviable person alive. Despite how high-profile the whole thing seems, Adele looked totally carefree and casual during the trip, wearing a cool splatter-print dress by Reformation—and it’s currently still available to shop.

Fans caught Adele hanging out on the sand and smiling happily in the mini dress, which she paired with a bright handkerchief around her neck. She’s not the only celebrity who has been into this Reformation print lately; as Harper’s Bazaar reports, Kaia Gerber was recently seen in a different silhouette of the dress in the same print. It’s a sign of how versatile the splatter pattern is: It works for a chic date night or for a lazy beach day with Harry Styles. (We’re still daydreaming about this.)

The “Amala” dress retails for $248, but it might be worth it to twin with your favorite A-listers; everyone from Meghan Markle to Kendall Jenner to Busy Philipps are fans of the eco-conscious brand.

If there’s anyone who deserves to relax by the beach, it’s Adele. She had an eventful 2019 that included planning a bachelorette party for her bud Jennifer Lawrence. But it was also a bit of a tough time for her in the spring, when she announced that she and her husband of two years, Simon Koneck, had decided to go their separate ways. The singer didn’t say much about the split at the time, but she did seem to take things in stride by posting a hilarious meme about catching herself in her feelings, indicating she was holding up pretty well. Now, if this vacation is any indicator, she seems to be doing even better—but who wouldn’t be after such a star-studded beach trip?

Fans Think Adele Threw Jennifer Lawrence a Bachelorette Party, and It Looked So Fun

Prepare to get very jealous of all the people who happened to be having a fun Friday night out at a certain bar New York City—because their nights went next level, thanks to the arrival of Jennifer Lawrence and Adele. Cannot. Imagine.

But, according to multiple fan accounts, that’s exactly what happened last night (March 22) at Pieces, a gay bar in Greenwich Village. People are speculating that it might have been a bachelorette party to celebrate Lawrence’s recent engagement to Cooke Maroney. If ever there were a textbook case of FOMO, this is it. One person at the bar had all of our reactions (had, you know, we been there): “I’M AT PIECES AND ADELE AND JENNIFER LAWRENCE ARE HERE LMFAOO.”

Apparently, the duo (who famously hung out a while back with Emma Stone) were at the bar with a group of friends when Adele and Lawrence were called on stage by the evening’s emcee, drag queen Brita Filter. When asked what she does for a living, Adele joked that she’s “currently a stay-at-home mum.”

See for yourself below:

Another video shows Lawrence teasing Adele for losing a drinking game—and then, when the actress is asked to play, Adele teases, “She’s fucking engaged; she’s not even relevant to be here.” Lawrence proceeds to clap back with, “That has nothing to do with my drinking ability.”

“Randomly getting turnt with JeLaw and Adele. NBD,” another Pieces patron tweeted. “JENNIFER LAWRENCE AND ADELE WENT THERE TOGETHER, UGH FRIENDSHIP GOALS,” wrote another.

Even if it wasn’t a bachelorette party, it seems like Adele and Lawrence had a pretty incredible girls’ night out—we’ll just assume our invite got stuck in the spam folder.

Adele Wrote a Touching Post About Her Best Friend’s Postpartum Psychosis Recovery

Adele is bringing awareness to a very important issue: postpartum psychosis, which her best friend, Laura, has experienced. On Monday (August 13), the singer posted a picture to Instagram of the two cuddling with Laura’s son (and Adele’s godson), alongside a poignant message.

“This is my best friend,” she wrote in the caption. “We have been friends for more of our lives than we haven’t. She had my beautiful godson 6 months ago and it was the biggest challenge of her life in more ways than one. She has written the most intimate, witty, heartbreaking, and articulate piece about her experience of becoming a new mum and being diagnosed with postpartum psychosis. Mamas talk about how you’re feeling because in some cases it could save yours or someone else’s life x [.]”

Adele included a link in her bio to Laura’s first-person blog post about her experience. In it, Laura documents what she calls “the worst time of [her] life.” “Since having my baby boy in February this year I’ve been suffering from and battling against post partem [sic] psychosis,” she began. “A rare and unpublicised illness that affects 1 in a 1000 women and is seen as a medical emergency (don’t worry I had never heard of it either until it tried to ruin my life). In my case it was built upon post-natal depression and exhaustion and escalated into a phase of what I can only describe as hell; mania, mood swings, insomnia, delusions, paranoia, anxiety, severe depression with a lovely side order of psychosis.”

She continued, “My pregnancy was a dream, I was totally prepared to be unprepared and have no history of mental illness and yet this cruel and savage sickness completely and unexpectedly swallowed me, smashed me and my family against the rocks. “

In the blog post, Laura describes a wide range of symptoms, from hiding congratulations cards to sleepless nights to mania, anxiety attacks, and thoughts of suicide . After an intervention, she spent two weeks in the hospital, and she’s currently in the midst of recovery with the help of family support, a psychiatrist, medication, and psychotherapy.

“Talking about this has been a huge part of my recovery and I was constantly searching for any stories that offered me hope or salvation in this dark and testing time so that’s why I’ve shared this and to raise awareness of this awful sickness and to confront the stigma attached to post natal depression and the pressure put on women to become mothers,” she wrote. “You have to talk. Birth and motherhood is a shock to the system and traumatic, and we shouldn’t have to suffer in silence.” You can read her full blog post here.

Adele Wrote the Nicest Essay About Her ‘Goofball’ Friend Rihanna

Rihanna and Adele are two music queens in their own rights—and their love for each other is palpable. In 2012, RiRi said Adele didn’t “know the depth of [her] affection” toward her and that she became “so attached” to her album, 21. Adele’s said similar things about Rihanna—but none are more wonderful than the tribute she just wrote for the “Diamonds” singer in light of Time magazine dubbing Rih one of its 100 most influential people.

“I actually can’t remember the first time I met Rihanna; I was probably numb from the shock of it,” the “Hello” singer wrote in her blurb. “Whenever I’ve met her, she’s been the most gracious, loyal, and funny goofball of an icon. She glows like when someone’s taken a picture with a flash and you’re dazed for a few minutes after. But it’s also very clear in that glow that she genuinely doesn’t give a f-ck; she’s fearless and full of all the right kind of attitude to be everything that she is and will be forever.”

Adele went on to describe Rihanna’s song “Pon de Replay” as an “absolute banger” (accurate) and praised the Fenty maestro for blazing her own trail in the industry. “She has designed and conquered an entire lane of her own. The innovative and groundbreaking world of Rihanna that no one else will ever be safe in and get away with copying,” Adele wrote. “She makes her own rules and bends ours.”

So…does all this love mean a collaboration is in the works? Take my money now, if so.
