Adele Officiated Her Friend's Wedding—and Then Sang “Rolling in the Deep”

Adele and English author/illustrator Laura Dockrill have been friends for decades—they’re so close, in fact, that Adele wrote the 2008 song “My Same” from her album 19 about their bond. So when Dockrill married The Maccabees musician Hugo White this weekend, Adele went all out: In addition to officiating her pal’s wedding ceremony, the singer grabbed a mic at the Mason’s Arms pub in London and gave a little private concert to all the guests, reportedly performing songs like her own “Rolling in the Deep” and the Spice Girls’ “Spice Up Your Life.”

Adele wasn’t the only celebrity present, either—according to E! News, Chernobyl actor Robert Emms and Florence Welch (of Florence and the Machine) were also on the guest list. At one point, Welch even reportedly joined Adele on stage to sing.

While there aren’t too many social media posts available of Adele’s impromptu wedding concert—hopefully the guests were too busy living in the moment—there is one picture that Dockrill posted on Instagram in which you can see Adele onstage, providing a soundtrack for the newlyweds.

In 2018, Adele shared a photo with Dockrill as well as a link to an essay the author had written about postpartum psychosis. “This is my best friend,” Adele captioned the photo. “We have been friends for more of our lives than we haven’t. She had my beautiful godson 6 months ago and it was the biggest challenge of her life in more ways than one. She has written the most intimate, witty, heartbreaking and articulate piece about her experience of becoming a new mum and being diagnosed with postpartum psychosis. Mamas talk about how you’re feeling because in some cases it could save yours or someone else’s life.”

While being a part of Dockrill’s wedding was certainly a milestone moment for the friendship, this isn’t the first time Adele has married her close pals. In 2018, she officiated a wedding for the English comedian Alan Carr and his partner, Paul Drayton, and even helped plan the whole event, which was held in her own backyard.

“She’s known me and Paul for ages, and she said, ‘I want to do your special day. Let me do everything.’ And she did everything and she got ordained and she married us,” Carr said in an interview later.

And Adele also notoriously organized an elaborate bachelorette party for Jennifer Lawrence at Pieces, a gay bar in New York’s Greenwich Village. When she’s not participating in major life events for her friends, Adele has been keeping a relatively low profile following her divorce last year. She’s only been spotted out a few times, including a vacation with Harry Styles and James Corden

So let’s recap: Adele is a wedding officiant, a wedding planner, and a wedding singer. We can’t wait to see Adele’s take on catering, florals, or bridesmaid duties next!

Selena Gomez Attended Her Friend's Bachelorette Weekend—and the Pics Are Gorgeous

Selena Gomez made a rare return to Instagram Monday night (February 11) to share some pics of herself living it up on her best friend Courtney Barry’s bachelorette trip.

“My best friend is getting married, so we celebrated her! Future Mrs. Lopez,” Gomez captioned the snaps of herself and a few friends. They’re all wearing swimsuits and lounging on some beach, which is just rude to us mortals who are currently trekking through the snow. I guess my invitation was lost in the mail.

From the looks of these photos, it looks like it was a great, relaxing trip. Check out the snaps, below, including a casual shot that Barry posted of Gomez riding a horse on the beach. (She captioned it with a simple blue heart emoji.) Is this how Gomez is going to come riding into 2019 to save pop music? Fingers crossed, because we need her!

Gomez has been celebrating Barry’s upcoming nuptials for a while now. In January she attended her bridal shower, looking stunning in a red dress.

In August 2018, Gomez posted a tribute to her longtime friend on Instagram. “You are an incredible woman,” she wrote. “The way you handle life’s most confusing moments is indescribable and graceful. You are moved by the littlest stories to the most heartbreaking ones, you will give someone your perfume if they say you smell nice, you are freaking hilarious and always stand firm in your faith, a loving sister, an amazing friend and a beautiful daughter. You are the definition of FEARFULLY and WONDERFULLY made baby!”

Selena Gomez returned to Instagram in January after a fourth-month hiatus and opened up about her challenging 2018. (The singer reportedly sought treatment in October following an “emotional breakdown” about low white blood cell count, though this was never confirmed by her team.)

“It’s been awhile since you have heard from me, but I wanted to wish everyone a happy new year and to thank you for your love and support,” she wrote in January. “Last year was definitely a year of self-reflection, challenges and growth. It’s always those challenges which show you who you are and what you are capable of overcoming. Trust me, it’s not easy, but I am proud of the person I am becoming and look forward to the year ahead. Love you all.”

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas Attended Their Friend's Wedding—and Of Course They Looked Spectacular

Two weeks ago Priyanka Chopra married Nick Jonas in a gorgeous multiday celebration in India, forever preserved on the cover of People. But the newlyweds are already back on the social circuit, having RSVP’d yes to the nuptials of heiress Isha Ambani, a longtime friend of Chopra’s—and one of her bridesmaids. (This is the same event where Beyoncé performed at a pre-wedding party, so you know it’s big.)

According to Vogue, Chopra and Jonas touched down in Mumbai earlier this week. And for the first wedding since her own, the actress chose a stunning, couture-grade coral look.

Check out Mr. and Mrs. Jonas’ wedding-guest outfits.

Chopra’s lehenga were created by bridal brand Jade, designed by Monica Shah and Karishma Swali. The separates were beautifully embellished to match her Anmol jewelry. For her own wedding, Chopra turned to local Indian labels, like Khosla Jani by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, for the various ceremonies celebrated over the weekend. (She walked down the aisle wearing custom Ralph Lauren.)

Kate Middleton Rewore a Dress to Attend a Friend's Wedding (Again!)

Figuring out what to wear to someone else’s wedding can be incredibly confusing. Even when there isn’t a strict dress code, there always seem to be unspoken rules and etiquette around clothing, like no white (or anything that could be mistaken for white) or no club-casual attire. Should you ever find yourself in need of outfit inspiration, though, look no further than frequent wedding-goer Kate Middleton: The Duchess of Cambridge has it all figured out—and, if you’ve been paying attention, you’ll find her wardrobing strategy quite relatable.

Over the weekend, Middleton was photographed attending her family friend Sophie Carter’s wedding. According to People, she wore a blue Catherine Walker & Co. coat dress that she had previously packed for her Berlin trip with Prince William, Prince George, and Princess Charlotte last July. She added some accessories to make it feel more wedding-ready—such as a large floral headband that matched her daughter’s bridesmaid crown, a satin clutch, and silver jewelry.

Repeating past outfits has proven to be Middleton’s go-to move for weddings. And it might not just be for practical reasons: As People suggests, this could be to ensure that press coverage surrounding her attendance never overshadows the bride.

There are some other examples to back up this theory. You may remember how, for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding in May, Middleton wore a pale yellow (not white!) coat dress by Alexander McQueen that many believed she’d worn before, on not one but two separate occasions: Princess Charlotte’s christening and the queen’s birthday.

There’s another outfit—a cream coat by Day Birger et Mikkelsen—that, according to Harper’s Bazaar Australia, Middleton has worn to three weddings, starting before she became a royal. Hey, if the dress is good, why leave it to collect dust in your closet?

Rihanna, Relatable Bridesmaid, Dodged the Bouquet at Her Friend's Wedding This Weekend

Rihanna wears many hats—singer, actress, makeup mogul—but this weekend she dropped all of them to be a bridesmaid in her friend’s wedding.

Yes: Over the weekend, the “Wild Thoughts” singer served as a bridesmaid for her longtime pal Sonita Alexander’s wedding in Barbados, E! reports. For the occasion, Rihanna wore a cobalt blue silk dress with flutter sleeves and makeup to match. Take note for the next time you complain about bridesmaid duties: Even Rihanna’s done ’em!

Rihanna posted a shot on Instagram of herself and Alexander getting ready for the big day, showing off a pouty, high-gloss lip and bright blue eyeliner under her eyes. She also showed off her and Alexander’s matching silk “bride” and “bridesmaids” robes, which prove that stars and their friends really are just like the rest of us.

And even though Rihanna is an international superstar, pictures from the wedding prove she went out of her way to ensure Alexander was front and center. In most of the shots, RiRi is hanging out in the background, and the spotlight is very clearly on the bride. She also wore the same dress, hair, and makeup as the rest of the bridal party—you know, as normal bridesmaids do.

This isn’t the first time Rihanna’s served as a bridesmaid. In 2015, she took on the role at her friend Jennifer Rosales’s wedding in Hawaii.

As for when Rihanna’s own wedding might occur, if her behavior around the bouquet is any indication, it won’t be for quite some time. When Alexander tossed her bouquet into the crowd (per tradition) Rihanna ducked to avoid it. Someone caught the whole thing on video, and it was expectedly amazing. Click here to see that.
