Rihanna Says Fenty Skin Is Coming

When Rihanna launched Fenty Beauty in 2017, it revolutionized the makeup industry based on one single premise: Give the people—all the people—products in shade ranges that work for them. And now that that’s finally becoming the norm, Rih has her sights set on doing the same thing for skin care.

In her new interview with British Vogue (she’s the magazine’s May cover star), RiRi confirms that Fenty Skin is, in fact, coming—although she doesn’t have an exact release date yet. “Skin care, it’s the truth. It either works or it doesn’t. There’s nowhere to hide,” she tells the magazine.

Of course, when Fenty Skin does launch, it will no-doubt be top-notch. All of RiRi’s endeavors are—whether that’s launching a foundation, designing a line of lingerie, or dropping new music, which fans have been eagerly anticipating for years. “I refuse to release anything that is not up to par with my quality level,” she says about her endeavors with Fenty. “The angle of a hem, the size of a sleeve, the stitch… If it’s not the right stitch that I want.”

Rihanna’s brand is all about quality—and diversity. She says she’s still surprised when people come up to her and suggest that making products for a range of skin tones was a novel, revolutionary idea.

“I’m shocked by people saying, ‘Oh my god, what made you think of making makeup for black girls?’” she tells British Vogue. “I’m like, ‘What? You thought this was like, a marketing strategy? Like I’m a genius?’ It’s shocking most of the time, then it turns into disappointment that this is groundbreaking right now. In my mind, this was just normal.”

Also normal for Rihanna: having a heavy, active hand in Fenty—down to the words on bottles and product names. That’s one of many reasons why the brand is successful: It’s authentic. “I write all of the copy for the websites, the product descriptions, and product names,” she says. “I do have a huge team, but I just don’t necessarily think their tone is mine. I’d feel like a fraud selling something that I can’t stand by.”

What's a TikTok House—and Why Does Rihanna Have One?

Rihanna is ahead of the curve on, basically, everything. So it should really come as no surprise the mogul is all over TikTok—and what’s known as a “TikTok House,” a.k.a a space where users of the app (formerly known as Musical.ly) can make content.

These so-called TikTok Houses have been popping up in places like Los Angeles, where creators often live together and use the space to create the popular videos found on the app. The Hype House is one that’s received a lot of press lately, like this New York Times feature, with its TikTok-famous residents like Chase Hudson, Avani Gregg, and Charli D’Amelio.

Now, Rihanna and Fenty Beauty have one of their very own.

“We are standing in the official first Fenty Beauty TikTok home,” she said in a video posted to Fenty Beauty’s TikTok account. “I just wanted to create a platform for the next wave of content creators. I think our generation is the sickest, the illest, the most creative. I can’t do it alone, so to join in with the people who are influencing the world and my community and my generation, this is a hub.”

“Y’all ain’t ready! Announcing the #fentybeautyhouse featuring @emmycombss @makayladid @savpalacio @challxn @thedawndishsoap ‼️” the brand said in another video starring some of the brand’s crew of TikTok influencers. The house, unsurprisingly, looks really cool—and the creators are already creating tons of content for the brand.

Fans on Twitter praised Rihanna for the decision to open a TikTok House—even if they were a little jealous of the people chosen to live there. “Rihanna so smart for doing a house for fenty beauty and make it trend on tik tok that’s how you get a commercial success waitin forward for powerful strategies for R9 like this,” one person tweeted. “i’m making a tiktok rn in hopes to get noticed by @fentybeauty to join the fenty beauty house IDK IF I CAN EVEN DO THIS but i want to be the first beauty boy in there [sic] house,” another wrote.

We can’t wait to see all the cool beauty videos coming out of the Fenty House.

Of Course Rihanna Had the Perfect Response When Someone Called Out Her Pimple

We may all be disappointed we didn’t get new Rihanna music by the end of 2019, but we can always count on her to be one of the very best celebrities of all time at social media.

The singer and Fenty mogul has only posted twice in 2020, but each one is pretty representative of who she is. First, she simply wrote “Devastating” about the fires raging in Australia. But it was her next image that is causing a bit of conversation.

“First selfie of the year doe. #2020,” she wrote next to a shot of herself. Seems harmless enough, right?

But this is Rihanna we’re talking about, so of course fans analyzed the photo closely. “Let me pop your pimple,” one commenter wrote after noticing a small blemish on the singer’s skin. RiRi was having none of that and came back with the perfect response: “Let her have her shine, PLEASE.”

It’s a small gesture, but the impact of a star as major as Rihanna being okay with posting a shot of herself with imperfect skin to the world (including her 78 million followers) is not. Instagram has become a place where perfection reigns and FaceTuned images are everywhere. But guess what? Everybody gets zits, even Rihanna. In fact, she’s one of a few celebrities who are normalizing acne on social media by posting their zit pics.

Rihanna is never afraid to address the commentary she knows goes on about her appearance. Back in October, she took on the matter of pregnancy head on. In a video for Vogue, Anna Wintour asked her, “Rihanna, do you hope to have a baby soon?”

“I don’t think about stuff like that. But, I don’t know…God’s plan,” she responded, laughing. “I look forward to all of the pregnancy rumors after this interview.” See, she always knows the right thing to say.

Rihanna Made an Undercover Visit to a Winter Market in London and No One Noticed

Earlier this year, global music and fashion phenomenon Rihanna revealed to T Magazine that she had quietly moved to London. She explained to the outlet that she frequently goes on walks around the city, but she tries to “keep it a little incognito.” And now, thanks to Instagram Stories, we have an idea of just how covert the siner can be when she wants to skirt by the London paparazzi.

The Daily Mail reports that earlier this week Rihanna paid a visit to “Winter Wonderland,” a seasonal market in London’s Hyde Park. The visit wasn’t noticed by market goers or members of Rihanna’s Navy at the time—the visit only came to light after Rihanna’s assistant, Tina Truong, posted about their trip on Instagram Stories.

In videos published by The Daily Mail and the Rihanna Twitter fan account @FentyStats, Truong follows Rihanna—who wears an oversized black coat with the hood pulled up—through a packed crowd at the Winter Wonderland. The singer also concealed her face with a black scarf so just her eyes were peaking out. Considering Rihanna loves nothing more than wearing enormous coats, the look is both a disguise and an on-brand fashion moment.

Rihanna’s undercover trip ultimately was just for a snack run. At one point in the videos, Truong loses track of Rihanna and finds her again at a hot dog stand. “Lmaooo found her y’all,” Truong wrote on the video. In it, Rihanna can be seen giggling and holding her hot dog out to Truong for a bite. Celebrities: They’ll risk it all for a holiday hot dog, just like us.

Hiding under coats and scarves isn’t the only thing keeping Rihanna from being spotted by fans these days—she’s simply been busy. Earlier this month, the singer took home her first British Fashion Award, the Urban Luxe award, for Fenty. And she’s also apparently holding on to a new album, which she’s cryptically referred to as R9. But on Instagram this week, Rihanna said she’s “refusing to release it.” We clearly need a Christmas miracle.

Rihanna Attended a Football Match Carrying a $3,500 Inflatable Soccer Ball as a Purse

Rihanna attended a soccer match in Turin, Italy, wearing an accessory only she could pull off: a Louis Vuitton ball-shaped purse.

The beauty mogul attended the Juventus vs Athletic Madrid UEFA Champions League match with her brother earlier this week, and all eyes were on her very appropriate accessory.

According to Page Six, the limited-edition piece, featuring the signature brown LV monogram pattern and a leather shoulder strap, was originally created in the late ’90s to celebrate the 1998 World Cup in France. And it wasn’t actually even designed to be a purse. Instead, it’s an inflatable ball that comes with a tip to blow air in it like a real soccer ball.

It’s not clear how much the vintage “bag” costs, but pre-owned versions are available online starting at $2,800 and up to $3,500.

To complete her look, Rihanna wore a monochromatic brown outfit—all pieces from her Fenty clothing line—and accessorized it with sunglasses, a scarf, and Louis Vuitton ankle boots.

During the game, she also posed for photos with a Juventus jersey that had “Riri” printed on the back. It even featured the number 20, likely chosen in honor of her birthday on February 20.

Rihanna Confirms She Turned Down the Super Bowl Halftime Show

Last year it was reported that Rihanna had turned down an offer to headline the Super Bowl halftime show in support of the NFL players who opted to kneel during the national anthem. (The athletes did this to peacefully protest police brutality in black communities.) This movement started with San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who eventually filed a grievance against the NFL. In a new interview with Vogue, Rihanna confirmed that she did, indeed, pass on the Super Bowl to stand with Kaepernick.

“I couldn’t dare do that,” she said. “For what? Who gains from that? Not my people. I just couldn’t be a sellout. I couldn’t be an enabler. There’s things within that organization that I do not agree with at all, and I was not about to go and be of service to them in any way.”

Rihanna addressed other political topics in her Vogue interview, as well. When the writer brought up President Donald Trump, who urged the NFL to fire players who kneeled during the anthem, and his recent characterization of shootings in El Paso and Dayton as part of a “mental illness problem,” she didn’t hold back.

“People are being murdered by war weapons that they legally purchase,” she said. “This is just not normal. That should never, ever be normal. And the fact that it’s classified as something different because of the color of their skin? It’s a slap in the face. It’s completely racist…. Put an Arab man with that same weapon in that same Walmart and there is no way that Trump would sit there and address it publicly as a mental health problem. The most mentally ill human being in America right now seems to be the president.”

Rihanna also talked about her recent move to London and said that, although she’s thousands of miles away, she doesn’t feel removed from the political climate in America: “When I see something happen to any woman, a woman of any minority, kids, black men being murdered in the streets—I can’t remove myself from that.”
