'Game of Thones' Fans Think Jon Snow Will Turn Against Daenerys in a Major Way


Throughout the last season of Game Of Thrones, things have started to get bleak for Daenerys Targaryen. She’s lost some of her most trusted advisers and a second dragon child, leading many people to hypothesize that she might be slowly following her father’s footsteps and descending into madness. But some new GoT fan theories take that idea even further and suggest that her fate will be so dark that she’ll end up betrayed—and even killed—by her lover/nephew Jon Snow.

Considering Dany’s death is not fun at all, but it’s necessary given how diabolical the showrunners have shown they can be with plot twists. Already, there have been a couple of indicators that the Mother of Dragons is heading toward demise: Her judgement has been questioned by the Stark sisters and her supposed advisers Varys and Tyrion, pushing the plot toward an unavoidable conflict over the true heir to the Iron Throne.

Then, of course, there’s the whole Azor Ahai Prophecy that has lurked in both the books and in the show: The Prince That Was Promised will save the Seven Kingdoms, but first he will kill the woman he loves. Tons of people think Jon Snow is Azor Ahai, and he’s sworn his allegiance to his Khaleesi so many times by now that it’s starting to get a little suspicious.

There is also the whole business of that vision Dany had in season two, when she saw herself walking into a trashed throne room in the dead of an icy winter. Then, she came across her dead husband, Khal Drogo, and her unborn baby. Some Reddit users have suggested that all of that—including the Iron Throne in her grasp—are symbols of things she’s wanted but will never attain. Others have thought that the ice in the vision might represent Jon Snow, who could be the one to end her dreams of ruling.

A Vox piece outlines the ways that the show has foreshadowed Dany’s dark turn and points out that she’s capable of great violence. On the most recent episode of the series, she went back and forth about burning down King’s Landing in order to rip Cersei out “room and stem” as she’s promised.

Personally, killing Dany and having Jon Snow save the day (after he’s fumbled so many times) seems like a massive waste of eight years that involved building up a powerful female warrior, who has become one of television’s most powerful and compassionate figures. But, then again, when you play the game of thrones…

The DNC Is Betting on a Woman Boss to Turn the Midterms Blue


Ahead of a pivotal midterm battle to take back Congress from the party of President Donald Trump, the Democratic National Committee is putting a woman in charge.

The party’s new CEO will be Seema Nanda, most recently of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and a former top aide to DNC Chairman Tom Perez, the party told Glamour ahead of Friday’s official announcement.

“People are hurting all across our country,” Nanda said in comments provided to Glamour by the DNC. “I believe that Democrats are offering the positive solutions so desperately needed right now – solutions forged by the strength of our diversity, the rigor of our ideas, and the decency of our values.”

Nanda replaces former CEO Jess O’Connell, who in January announced she was leaving after less than a year.

The first Asian-American to head the DNC in recent memory, Nanda takes the reins from an interim ceo, Mary Beth Cahill, in overseeing the financial and political trajectory of the DNC at a pivotal moment.

The Democrats are trying to generate a “blue wave” to control of the House from the GOP by anchoring Republicans to a controversial and unpopular president. But the party is also facing an internal reckoning on how to craft the best message for November and has dramatically trailed fundraising by the Republican National Committee under its chairwoman, Ronna Romney McDaniel.

As the Center for American Women and Politics has noted, “Democratic women are the real drivers of the surge in female candidates in 2018: women are 33% of all Democratic candidates but only 14% of all Republican candidates.” It remains to be seen how much women, both as voters and candidates, will change a political landscape in which they are underrepresented at the federal level on down.

“Women are not only making their voices heard, but this hire also signals that women are leading the Democratic Party, and I couldn’t be prouder of that,” said the DNC’s communications director, Xochitl Hinojosa.

Amid a national outcry over the separation of migrant families detailed at the U.S. border, the DNC is also emphasizing Nanda’s past experience as head of the DOJ’s Office of Immigrant and Employee Rights Section.

When she steps into her new assignment this summer, Nanda will oversee the party in close coordination with Perez. She was his chief of staff when he ran the federal Labor Department during the Obama Administration.

“As we head toward such a crucial election,” he said in comments forwarded by the party, “I’m 100 percent certain that Seema’s leadership will help the DNC capitalize on the unprecedented grassroots energy and enthusiasm surging throughout the country.”

Nanda, who has also worked in the Justice Department’s Division of Civil Rights, is a graduate of Brown University and Boston College Law School.

She lives in Arlington, Virginia with her husband and her 12- and 14-year-old sons.

Valerie Jarrett Responds to Roseanne Cancellation: ‘We Have to Turn It Into a Teaching Moment’


Valerie Jarrett, a former aide to Barack Obama, says ABC made the right decision in canceling its hit revival of Roseanne following a racist Twitter rant against her by its star, Roseanne Barr.

In the tweet, which has since been deleted, the comedian specifically said, “Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.” According to NBC News, the tweet was in reference to an online claim that Obama’s CIA spied on French presidential candidates. Barr’s tweet was also reportedly in response to another Twitter user, who claimed Jarrett helped Obama “hide a lot.”

In an MSNBC town hall taped hours later titled “Everyday Racism in America,” Jarrett said that she’s doing fine emotionally, but that the event should be turned into a teachable moment for the country.

“First of all, I think we have to turn it into a teaching moment,” Jarrett said. “I’m fine. I’m worried about all the people out there who don’t have a circle of friends and followers coming to their defense.”

Jarrett further added, “The tone does start at the top, and we like to look up to our president and feel as though he reflects the values of our country. But I also think every individual citizen has a responsibility too, and it’s up to all of us to push back. Our government is only going to be as good as we make it be.”

According to Jarrett, Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney, personally called her before going public with the news of the show’s cancellation to assure her that Barr’s behavior and language would not be tolerated.

“He wanted me to know before he made it public that he was canceling the show,” she said, noting that Iger added there was “zero tolerance” for that behavior at ABC.

Earlier in the day, Channing Dungey, president of ABC Entertainment, wrote in a brief statement, “Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant, and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Viacom has also pulled reruns of the show from Paramount Network, TV Land and CMT. HULU has also followed suit and pulled the show from its platform.

Members of the show’s cast and crew also quickly took to social media to share how disgusted and disappointed they were with Barr’s actions.

Sara Gilbert, a producer and actress on the show, wrote on Twitter that Barr’s comments are “abhorrent and do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show.” Emma Kenney, who played Darlene’s daughter on the show, wrote on Twitter, “I am hurt, embarrassed, and disappointed. The racist and distasteful comments from Roseanne are inexcusable.” And Danny Zucker, who was a writer during the first iteration of Roseanne, wrote, “I wrote on the original ‘Roseanne’ where we used to denounce nativism, racism & homophobia. Nauseating to see what she’s become. Looking forward to continue not watching this show.”

Harvey Weinstein Reportedly Set to Turn Himself in to Authorities on Sexual Assault Charges


Disgraced movie producer Harvey Weinstein is expected to surrender to authorities on Friday, following a lengthy investigation into the sexual assault accusations brought against him, according to reports.

Weinstein, The New York Times reported, is set to be charged by the Manhattan district attorney’s office. The Times further reported that Weinstein will face charges brought by at least one accuser. That person is Lucia Evans, who says she met Weinstein in 2004. Evans told The New Yorker in an in-depth review of Weinstein’s accusers that during a one-on-one meeting with the Hollywood producer, he forced her to perform oral sex on him.

“He’s a big guy. He overpowered me,” Evans told The New Yorker. “I just sort of gave up.”

Of Weinstein’s alleged process of harassing and assaulting women, Evans said, “It feels like a very streamlined process.” She added, “Female casting director, Harvey wants to meet. Everything was designed to make me feel comfortable before it happened. And then the shame in what happened was also designed to keep me quiet.”

According to The New York Times, prosecutors in Manhattan are still actively investigating allegations against Weinstein by actress Paz de la Huerta. She claims Weinstein raped her in her own home in New York City in 2010.

Since the fall of 2017, dozens of women have come forward to accuse Weinstein of misconduct, assault, and rape, including actresses Lena Headey, Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Mira Sorvino and more. Ashley Judd was one of the first women to go on record with her report, sharing her story in detail with The New York Times in October. Judd told The Times that sometime in the 1990s, Weinstein invited her to the Peninsula Beverly Hills hotel under the guise of a breakfast meeting. However, when she arrived at his room, he was only wearing a bathrobe and asked the young actress if she could watch him shower or if he could give her a massage.

“I said no, a lot of ways, a lot of times, and he always came back at me with some new ask,” Judd said. “It was all this bargaining, this coercive bargaining.”

Weinstein has denied engaging in non-consensual sex with anyone, Reuters writes.

'The Big Bang Theory' Season 11 Episode 14 Recap: Raj's Love Life Takes a Turn


In the universe of The Big Bang Theory, the biggest hot spot isn’t the local bar, the gym, or even Stuart’s comic book store. Lately—especially if you ask Raj—it’s the local planetarium, where he’s pretty much batting a thousand when it comes to meeting women. As for the long-term potential…well, the outlook isn’t great, but, hey, it’s a start.

In tonight’s episode—titled “The Separation Triangulation”—a woman named Nell (played by 2 Broke Girls‘ Beth Behrs) approaches Raj after his presentation to ask for a picture and gush over his work. We later find out that even though that was the extent of their encounter, they somehow met back up, went on a date, and started sleeping together. Things seem to be getting off to a promising start, until Nell admits she recently (as in less than two weeks ago) separated from her husband. Raj immediately realizes the odds of this turning into anything serious aren’t looking too good.

To make matters more complicated, Nell’s ex, Oliver (guest star Walton Goggins), shows up at the planetarium and demands that Raj tell him the extent of his new relationship with Nell. Oh, and he wants her back. Raj tries to stay out of the drama, but he can’t. (This is a sitcom, after all.) He tries to keep things going with Nell, but every time he’s with her he can’t seem to stop thinking about Oliver. Eventually, the whole thing gets to be too much for Raj, who ends things with Nell but continues a friendship with Oliver (insert eye roll here). By the end of the episode, Oliver and Nell seem to be back on the road of reconciliation and Raj’s single status remains in tact.

The episode as a whole felt redundant, but the Raj/Nell/Oliver story was relatable for anyone who’s ever been on a date. Whether you swipe, click, or get set-up, we’ve all encountered someone who seems available in theory—but really isn’t. In this situation, there was nothing Raj could have done to know Nell’s history upfront. I mean, perhaps he could have handled things a bit better once he did, but then we’d have no show. For once, it was refreshing to see another honest portrayal of how shitty dating can be in the 21st century.

That brings me to my next point, which is Raj’s love life in general. As Big Bang prepares to possibly end after season 12, it’s nice that the writers aren’t rushing to find Raj’s forever love. In the last few seasons, he’s had dates or relationships with Emily, Claire, Lucy, Ruchi, to name a few. But instead of making a gimmick out of his rotating list of women, each relationship has been handled authentically to the character. What’s unusual—especially with a well-known actress like Beth Behrs playing a potential love interest—is that often means the character will stick around for a story arc. But for the moment, that’s not the case. Instead, we’re seeing these women come into Raj’s life and sometimes—as with Nell, or Isabella the cleaning lady—leave as quickly as they entered. While it’s a bummer for Raj, or anyone who wants to see him find a long-term partner, it’s nice to see that his love life isn’t being rushed just for the sake of coupling him up.

The Jokes Made at a 2008 'Secret' Matt Lauer Roast Will Turn Your Stomach


As former Today show cohost Matt Lauer reportedly hides out in the Hamptons, the media is having quite the time digging up public and private moments from his past that illustrate that his improper behavior has been going on for long time. Of course there’s the creepy archival Today footage of interviews with actresses like Anne Hathaway and Sandra Bullock. And now there’s news of a “secret” roast of Lauer at New York City’s Friars Club back in 2008 that is downright disgusting, especially in light of his firing for “sexual misconduct in the workplace.”

So roasts are, by nature, fairly raunchy affairs, often filled with off-color jokes. But the reports from the Lauer roast, originally published in the Village Voice and recently resurfaced by the New York Post, are next-level wrong.

Let’s set the scene: First of all, you could probably write a term paper that simply analyzes the guest list. The Today team at the time was all there including Al Roker, Meredith Vieira, and Ann Curry. Lauer’s former cohost Katie Couric, Today alum Bryant Gumbel, future president Donald Trump, Tom Cruise (who once had a famously tense on-air moment with Lauer), Bob Saget, Martha Stewart, and then chairman of NBC Universal Jeff Zucker were all in the room. Oh, and Nancy O’Dell. Yes, the Nancy O’Dell who Trump is talking about when he says he “moved on her like a bitch” in the infamous Access Hollywood tape. Now, that’s a room filled with many headline-making names in the latest wave of harassment scandals.

And then there are the “jokes.” Some of these are hard to read, so beware. Cameras and recorders were banned from the event, but a Village Voice reporter was said to have taken copious notes under a table. Ann Curry, with whom Lauer reportedly had a contentious relationship, was the butt of many jokes, including one reportedly from the man of “honor” himself: “What’s with all the small-d— jokes? It was fun to look over and see Ann Curry laughing…like she doesn’t know how big my d— really is.”

I barely have words—but it just gets worse. Martha Stewart is reported to have said, “I hear NBC executives call Matt the ‘Cock of the Rock.’” Does that sound like somebody who executives should have been “shocked” to find out was inappropriate at the office? Zucker, Lauer’s boss at one time, has said he knew nothing of Lauer’s behavior but allegedly said this at the 2008 roast: “It’s just good to see Matt up here and not under my desk. I don’t want to say Matt’s a germophobe, but he’s the only guy I know who uses Purell both before and after he masturbates.” You know what else was under his desk? A button that allowed him to lock the door without getting up.

It’s all nefarious AF and makes it very hard to fathom that nobody knew what was going on at 30 Rock. One media executive who had attended told the Post, “This was a comedic roast, but there was clearly a vein of truth running through all those jokes. You had Katie Couric, Meredith Vieira, and Jeff Zucker all standing up there joking about his sex in the office, his kinkiness. They all knew.”
