Kate Middleton and Prince William Reportedly Didn't Like the Royals Jokes Made at the BAFTAs

Remember when Brad Pitt‘s speech at the BAFTAs included a joke about Prince Harry and everyone laughed? Including (seemingly) Kate Middleton and Prince William, who were in attendance? Well, it turns out that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge may have been putting on a happy face at the BAFTAs this past Sunday (February 2). According to one source, the couple was not pleased with the jokes made at the royal family’s expense.

“The feedback is that many of the stars stepped out of line in front of the patron, which is the Duke of Cambridge,” U.K. media commentator Neil Sean told Fox News. The most notable, heavily-reported Hollywood rib at their expense definitely goes to Pitt, who won Best Supporting Actor for his role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He wasn’t able to attend, but Margot Robbie accepted the award and gave a speech on his behalf.

“[Brad] says that he is going to name [his award] Harry,” Robbie said. “Because he is really excited about bringing it back to the States with him… His words, not mine!” That’s when the camera panned, and we supposedly saw the duke and duchess react good-naturedly.

“This was not met with the smiling faces that you saw on the final edited version of the show,” Sean said, seemingly alleging that the broadcast had been changed in some way.

But the worst moment for the royals, according to Sean, came from actor Rebel Wilson. The Cats star chose to poke fun at a much more serious royal scandal: Prince Andrew’s ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

“It is really great to be here at the Royal Andrew… uh, Royal Harry, no, at this royal palace place,” Wilson joked while presenting the award for Best Director. The camera, of course, cut to Will and Kate.

Apparently, the royals were so offended that they’re reportedly looking into ways to prevent moments like this in the future. “A mole also told me that to ensure that the royals are not embarrassed or made fun of again at such a prestigious event like this one…they will have a ‘moral clause’ inserted into their acceptance agreement ensuring that due reverence is given to the royal couple who gave their time and support to such a wonderful celebration of film and is respected,” Sean told Fox News.

Woof. At least Kate Middleton and Prince William’s exchange with actor Jaoquin Phoenix was delightful.

Blake Lively Jokes About All of Ryan Reynolds's Trolling: “It's Aggravating”

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are known for trolling each other on social media. Whether she’s posting funny photos of him on his birthday or vice versa, this very hot couple clearly has a cheeky sense of humor.

Lively was finally asked about their penchant for trolling in a new interview for Good Morning America. (She was on promoting her new movie, The Rhythm Section, which hits theaters this Friday, January 31.) When the hosts brought up photos Reynolds posted for Lively’s birthday last August—in which she’s either slightly cropped out or making a funny face—she had the greatest response.

“It’s alarming to me how many of these photos he found, though, where I look like this,” she said, jokingly. “What is happening? But he looks handsome in all of them. I really gotta work on my photo face.”

“It’s aggravating, isn’t it?” host Robin Roberts asked Lively, to which she agreed, “It is aggravating.”

Of course, this is all in good fun. Lively hilariously quipped that she’s “working on” her next trolling against Reynolds. “I gotta dig something up.” Watch the interview clip for yourself, above.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have three daughters together; their youngest was born last summer. One key to making their family work, Lively says, is she and her husband don’t work at the same time.

“I admire people who find that what fulfills them is their art or their work, but what fulfills both me and my husband is our family,” she told Glamour in 2017. “Knowing that, everything else comes second. We’ve each given up stuff we loved in order to not work at the same time. I’m fortunate to be in a place now where I get to find the material—a book or script—early and develop it. So I know ahead of time that I’m going to be working on this job at this time. And we can plan around it.”

Amber Ruffin and Jenny Hagel Tell the Jokes You Can’t

“A lesbian bride is like a straight bride, except she’s experienced orgasm” is the kind of joke you can expect to hear Jenny Hagel tell on Late Night With Seth Meyers, alongside her fellow writer and BFF, Amber Ruffin. Together the women helm the segment “Jokes Seth Can’t Tell,” a delicious dedication to the kind of humor that’s off-limits to their straight, white, male boss.

“I’m black” is how Ruffin opens the bit. To which Hagel replies, “And I’m gay!” The women then sandwich Meyers at his desk as they rip punch line after punch line about women, people of color, and the queer community. It’s a hilarious and cathartic reprieve in the midst of late-night television, which remains alarmingly white and male.

Hagel and Ruffin are adept improvisers, but their ease with each other isn’t an act. The two have known each other since both moved to Denver to develop a sketch show for Second City. “It was like being a comedian on a semester abroad. The two of us would just hang out and get to know each other,” Hagel tells Glamour. (Ruffin deadpans, “I first met Jenny and I thought she was stupid and I didn’t like her at all.”)

But the gig didn’t last long, and they lost touch after both left Denver. Still, when a spot opened up in Meyers’s writers room in 2016, Ruffin immediately thought of her old pal. And they’ve been happily writing jokes about lesbian penguins, Popeyes, and Ruffin’s “sweet chocolate buns” for the show ever since.

Here the duo sounds off on networking, being “HR nightmares,” and making each other laugh on the job.

Network with your peers, not your elders.

Amber Ruffin: When we needed to replace [comedian] Michelle Wolf, who does a butt ton of work—she’s a workhorse—on the show, the only person I knew who was also like that was Jenny. When we were at Second City in Denver, the assignment would be to come in with one sketch, and Jenny would come in with three. Whatever she was asked to do, she always did more. So I thought she would be perfect here, because I’m not gonna do nothing. [Laughs.]

Jenny Hagel: Amber texted me one night saying, “Hey, I think we might be hiring someone if you want to send in a writing packet to be considered for the job.” She sent it to me on a Thursday night and asked me to give it to her by Sunday. I sat down on my little laptop and typed and typed all weekend. I was so grateful to Amber because at the time I didn’t have an agent or anything, so the only way I could’ve found out about one of these jobs would be through word of mouth.

One of the questions I get the most from young people who want to be comedy writers is about networking. I think there’s a weird myth that networking is meeting somebody who is several levels past where you are right now, giving them a business card, and convincing them to give you a job. Networking is actually just finding that thing you want to do, finding other people your age or at your station in life who also want to do it, hanging out with each other, and little by little helping each other advance. I didn’t “network” into this job. I hung out in Chicago, went to a lot of keg parties, and the people I did improv with and drank cheap beer with when I was 24 are now the people I recommend for jobs.

Ivanka Trump Jokes That Being Trump's Daughter 'Is the Hardest Job in the World'

Many people have taken issue with the fact that First Daughter Ivanka Trump has benefitted from her family background, particularly after she publicly stated in February that she believes Americans “want to work for what they get” instead of being guaranteed jobs. But she seemed to take recent criticism in stride at a white-tie gathering on Saturday night, joking that “the hardest job in the world” is being Donald Trump’s daughter.

According to The Washington Post, Ivanka cracked this joke (and several others) after her dad asked her to represent him at the annual Gridiron dinner on Saturday night, which is attended by politicians and elite journalists in the country.

“The press seems to think it’s ironic that I, born of great privilege, think people want to work for what they are given,” she said. “As if being Donald Trump’s daughter isn’t the hardest job in the world.”

The comment was an obvious reference to the spar she recently got into with Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s. It all started when Ivanka appeared on Fox News and discussed Ocasio-Cortez’s ambitious Green New Deal proposal. Ocasio-Cortez has said that the deal will guarantee jobs for all Americans, but Ivanka made it clear that she’s skeptical.

“I don’t think most Americans, in their heart, want to be given something,” Ivanka said on Fox. “I’ve spent a lot of time traveling around this country over the last four years. People want to work for what they get.”

Ocasio-Cortez quickly took issue with Ivanka’s point of view, particularly because Ivanka has been afforded some undeniable privileges as a member of theTrump family.

“As a person who actually worked for tips & hourly wages in my life, instead of having to learn about it 2nd-hand, I can tell you that most people want to be paid enough to live,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote in Twitter.

A debate subsequently unfolded on Twitter in the following days, but Ivanka didn’t seem phased by any of it when she spoke on Saturday. At one point, she said that because her father had asked her to show up at the last minute, she hadn’t been able to prepare more jokes.

“I figured the funniest thing I could do is read you excerpts from the Green New Deal,” she said, again referencing the AOC idea that got her in hot water to begin with.

Ivanka’s little comedy bit might not sit well with supporters of the proposal—but it’s safe to say controversy is nothing the First Daughter isn’t used to by now.

Prince Harry Is Already Making Dad Jokes About Meghan Markle’s Pregnancy

Meghan Markle hasn’t even given birth yet, but Prince Harry is already making dad jokes. His latest one happened on the couple’s current trip to Morocco. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were visiting a school in the town of Asni when someone congratulated Markle on her pregnancy. Prince Harry quickly swooped in with some dad humor. “What, you’re pregnant?” he said, pretending to be shocked at what the well-wisher said.

Markle played along, quipping, “Surprise!” as she held back her laughter. And that’s when Prince Harry jumped in with the ultimate corny joke: “Is it mine?” he said.

It’s official: Prince Harry is going to be one of those dads, the ones who wear chunky white sneakers, fanny packs, and Hawaiian T-shirts to Disney World. On Halloween, he’ll put on a costume to bring his child to school—even when they’re 16. And he’ll have plenty more jokes where this one came from.

Watch Prince Harry and Markle have this exchange for yourself, below:

Meghan Markle has been having quite the exciting month. Just last week she had her baby shower in New York City, which several of her famous friends, including Gayle King, Serena Williams, and Amal Clooney, attended. “She’s very kind. She’s very generous and a really, really sweet person. I think her friends just wanted to celebrate her,” King said about the shower. “A good time was had by all.”

Now she and Prince Harry are in Morocco, where she received a henna tattoo to celebrate her baby. “It’s for when we have a big party. Now she is pregnant we do the henna to keep her happy with the baby,” Khadeja Oukattou, an Education for All housemother, told People about the ink. “For good luck.”

Markle is reportedly due in late April-slash-early May. Let the royal baby countdown begin.

Why Does Pete Davidson Keep Making Jokes About His Breakup With Ariana Grande?

Pete Davidson can’t stop, won’t stop making jokes about his breakup with Ariana Grande. On the one hand, this shouldn’t surprise people: He’s a comedian on Saturday Night Live, after all, and has a history of saying things that aren’t the most appropriate. But the fact he’s being so casual about this high-profile uncoupling is a bit perplexing considering how intense they were just a few weeks ago.

He reportedly first broke his silence on Grande while performing at a Los Angeles benefit on Saturday, October 20. “Um, I’ve been covering a bunch of tattoos; that’s fun,” Davidson said, nodding to all the couple tats he and Grande received during their whirlwind relationship. “I’m fucking 0 for 2 in the tattoo [department].”

Davidson allegedly ended this set with a joke about needing a new roommate now that he’s moved out of the $16 million apartment Grande bought for them. “Does anybody have any open rooms? Looking for a roommate?” he said, according to E! News.

He’s at it again this week. One of the promos for this weekend’s Saturday Night Live features Davidson making a quip about his short-lived engagement to Grande. In the 40-second video, which we included below, Davidson asks musical guest Maggie Rogers to marry him, and she curtly responds “No.” “0 for 3,” Davidson then remarks, a not-so-subtle jab at his relationship track record. (He seriously dated Cazzie David for two years before starting things with Grande.)

[embedded content]

The video rubbed many people the wrong way—including Grande, who posted a few pointed tweets shortly after it went live. “For somebody who claims to hate relevancy u sure love clinging to it huh,” she wrote.

So what gives? Why is Davidson making all these jokes even though it’s clearly upsetting Grande, not to mention her legion of fans? One source tells Entertainment Tonight that he’s using humor as a defense mechanism. “His friends think he is embarrassed by the breakup and that he has to overcompensate by making jokes about their relationship, because, days before they split, he was saying they would never break up,” the source revealed.

But another source directly contradicts this and says Davidson isn’t embarrassed about anything. “He’s obviously hurt it didn’t work out but is doing his best to move on. Anyone would be hurt after an engagement was broken off,” they said. “Pete joked about him and Ariana [when they were together]. So joking about breaking up and their relationship is not new.”

I don’t personally know Pete Davidson or Ariana Grande, so offering legitimate suggestions for how they should navigate their breakup feels silly. I mean, this is a union that featured baby pigs and “Honest to God Knock Me Out” tattoos and approximately 9,000 bean bags; it’s far beyond the understanding of us mere mortals. There’s a song on Grande’s album literally called “Pete Davidson.” Your guess for what these two should do about this messy situation is as good as mine.

That being said, a good first step might be to…not say anything for a while. Grande has since deleted her shady tweets, which suggests she might not be ready to talk about the breakup. Davidson should probably follow suit—out of respect for her and, ya know, Piggy Smalls. Think of the pig, Pete!
