Serena Williams Told Meghan Markle to 'Stop Being So Nice'

Serena Williams and Meghan Markle have been friends since 2010, and their chats are still very relatable—even though the latter is now literally a duchess. Take this exchange Williams described to People magazine on Wednesday night (December 5), in which both she and Markle couldn’t stop asking how the other was.

“I’m like, ‘How are you?’ and [Markle is] like, ‘No, how are you?’ and I’m like, ‘You’re so sweet, but I’m really asking – how are YOU?’ ” Williams said.

Sounds like the conversations I have with my best friend, TBH. Williams says this is how Markle has “always been.” “I’m like, ‘Meghan, stop being so nice…you’re the pregnant one, aren’t you supposed to have hormones, why are you so sweet?’” she also told People.

Williams is, of course, referring to the fact Markle is expecting her first child with Prince Harry. Kensington Palace announced this news on social back back in October.

“Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019,” the palace wrote at the time. “Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public.”

Markle was very supportive of Williams during her pregnancy in 2017, telling Vogue, “She will be an amazing mom. The very best, because she is so attuned to balancing strength and sensitivity. Plus, given that she is pretty epic at karaoke, I think she’ll put her signature Serena spin on singing lullabies for the baby. I can’t wait for that!”

People on Twitter Are Sharing the Awkward Things They've Told Celebrities, and It's a Gold Mine

If you’ve ever daydreamed about meeting a celebrity—say, Taylor Swift or Lady Gaga—you’ve likely imagined the best-case scenario. You and the superstar instantly hit it off; you take a cute picture; and maybe they even remember you the next time you bump into each other in the meet-and-greet line or at Whole Foods. But as one Twitter account pointed out this week, that’s truly the best-case situation—and sometimes, the interactions go awry thanks to a little case of being starstruck.

On November 6, Twitter user @rachymarshall asked her followers to straight-up share the not-so-smooth things they’ve ever said to a celebrity. Hundreds of people have responded since then—and their self-submitted stories of awkward comments and personal questions are hilarious.

Taylor Swift

“When I met Taylor Swift she complimented me on my necklace and I bragged to her about how I got it on sale for 2 for 20 the day before and she told me she would check that out while she was wearing a $2k jacket,” wrote one fan.

(She also posted a pic of aforementioned necklace—complete with Swift.)

One Twitter user wrote that during her run-in, she told the pop icon, “‘I will shoot myself if I don’t tell you this’ to Taylor Swift which is a little more aggressive than what I meant, which was ‘I’ll never forgive myself if I don’t tell you this’ and then continued to blubber and cry.”

Another fan shared some casual growth-spurt chat with Swift.

Lady Gaga

“I once told gaga she looked like MARY antoinette (i meant marie),” wrote @rachymarshall, the originator of this delightful thread.

Harry Styles

“I told @Harry_Styles he should start a winery called Sign of the Vines,” confessed one fan.

“I love you so much harry i’m so sorry i’m such a loser i’m so sorry,” another Twitter user admitted they told the singer.

This fan got super-honest with him: “Harry Styles: Hi, how are you?,” they wrote. “Me: I have to pee.”

The Riverdale Crew

“When i met camila and lili from riverdale instead of asking for s group hug i said “Could you sandwich me” and everyday i regret that ajdbsks but they laughed and were nice about it so i guess it was okay,” one fan wrote.

Adam Driver

“I met adam driver when i was 16 and i showed him my driver’s license and said ‘i, too, am a driver’ and he fake laughed,” wrote another Twitter user.

Jude Law

As one fan recounted, “I met Jude Law, and the only thing I had on me for him to sign was a pad of penguin paper (I was 21 at the time ?). So, in that anxious rushed moment I said ‘WILL YOU SIGN MY PENGUIN PAPER!’ – he looked at me, laughed, and happily obliged. ?”

Halsey

This one is, well, sweet: “I told halsey i worry about her,” one user wrote.

Hozier

One fan dropped a casual line:

Rita Ora—or Not

“At the VMAs red carpet, security was blocking our view so I thought I saw Rita Ora so I started screaming ‘RITA RITA.’ Turns out it was Bebe Rehxa,” a fan admitted.

Miranda Kerr

“Met Miranda Kerr in Central Park and after taking a photo she told me I smelled really good…to which I replied: thanks it’s my sweat ???,” one Twitterer said.

Seth Meyers

“Once I met @sethmeyers with my dad. My Dad: Seth, can I get a picture? Seth: Sure! my dad whips out camera Seth: You don’t want to be in it? My Dad: No.”

Happy Saturday, one and all.

Donald Trump Just Told White House Reporter Cecilia Vega She 'Never' Thinks

It’s probably no secret to most that President Donald Trump isn’t too happy with the press. From saying every outlet (other than a few of his personal favorites) disseminates “fake news” to repeatedly calling the press the “enemy of the people,” Trump isn’t shy about where he stands with journalists. But yet, somehow, he’s still able to shock us all by just how far the depths of his disdain for the media can go.

Take, for example, on Monday, when Trump told Cecilia Vega, the senior White House correspondent for ABC News (and winner of multiple Emmys) that she “never” thinks.

While giving a press conference in the White House Rose Garden to discuss the new trade agreement with Canada and Mexico, Trump, answering questions from reporters, called upon Vega. A brief pause followed as Vega stood up to grab the microphone. At that moment, Trump said with a smile, “she’s shocked that I picked her. Like in a state of shock.” Vega quickly responded, “I’m not, thank you, Mr. President.”

It appeared Trump may have misunderstood her, and replied, “That’s OK, I know you’re not thinking, you never do.” Vega, a consummate professional replied, “I’m sorry?” and continued on with her question. Even then, however, Trump continued to be dismissive. Vega asked the president about the ongoing FBI investigation into allegations Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, however, all Trump wanted to do was discuss trade. He later returned to Vega to answer her question.

Vega tweeted after the news conference, “A news conference means you get to ask whatever question you want to ask. #FirstAmendment.”

However, other journalists were quick to jump on social media to defend Vega and note that her line of questioning was entirely in reason.

“I very sincerely hope the president does indeed to @CeciliaVega to answer her respectful and entirely appropriate question on Brett Kavanaugh,” Hallie Jackson, chief White House correspondent for NBC News tweeted. “The White House, and POTUS, know they can’t dictate the content of questions. And the pres. has often taken off-topic Qs before.”

“Wow. @CeciliaVega asks Trump about limiting FBI investigation into Kavanaugh allegations,” Karen Travers, an ABC News reporter also covering the White House shared. “He doesn’t want to talk that, says he wants to talk trade. She follows w/Q about if it will pass Congress. Pushes again on Kavanaugh, still doesnt want to answer. WH aide GRABS mic from her.”

And as Vega’s ABC producer Alisa Wiersema shared, Trump apparently missed her extensive coverage of the trade deal already: “Took a post-GMA nap after a morning of helping @CeciliaVega report on trade, and woke up to this exchange,” she wrote. “Seems like the President didn’t tune in to see her already having covered his trade deal extensively today.”

Maybe next time we can hope for better. Maybe.

Someone Told Lady Gaga to Get a Nose Job—and She Shut It Down

Lady Gaga is currently doing some amazing things: Not only is she still a pop icon, but she’s helming A Star Is Born, which, by all critical accounts and definitely not just judging by the first full song that’s been released from the soundtrack is going to be a box office slamdunk. And although we’ve already discussed just how amazing her interviews for this movie are, there’s another entry for that book—and it has to do with a very rude person telling Mama Monster she needed to get a nose job.

She told the Mirror last week that while she was on her own journey to stardom—we’re talking right before her first single dropped—someone said she should get a nose job.

“Before my first single ever came out it was suggested I get a nose job, but I said, ‘No.’ I love my Italian nose,” she told the Mirror. “If people wanted me to look like a sexpot, I would look like the opposite.”

Gaga was playing by her own rules straight from the beginning, it seems: “If they said, ‘Try dancing and looking this way,’ I would always flip it on its head and do it my way,” she added.

She also opened up about her own struggles with insecurity—and about how A Star Is Born contains elements of her own life. Gaga said that at one point, she was playing three shows a night and performed at at least a thousand clubs before she got her big break with 2008’s The Fame album.

“I spoke a lot to Bradley about my life, and they integrated part of my life into the movie, but in a very special way. I am forever grateful to him for that,” Gaga told the Mirror. “There were times early on where I wish there had been someone to help nourish me psychologically, to handle the change. When you become famous everything changes; you’re no longer a free being.”

Blake Lively Had the Best Response When a Troll Told Her She Should "Fire Her Stylist"

If there are two things Blake Lively knows how to do (besides, y’know, act), it’s wear a pantsuit and troll herself on Instagram. And these special talents were on peak display this week after a “fan” suggested she fire her stylist.

On Friday, Lively posted a photo of herself on Instagram out and about in New York City earlier that week. She’s pictured wearing a plaid Roland Mouret Resort 2019 pantsuit, and in true self-deprecating form, captioned it, “Picnic anyone? I’ll bring the tablecloth…”

However, someone who apparently wasn’t a fan of the statement look to the comments to offer the star some unsolicited fashion advice. “I say this with so much love and respect for you babe, please hire a stylist or fire the one you’re currently with,” they wrote.

And Lively, who has spoken in the past about her decision to act as her own stylist, issued a fire clapback: “Thank you for the tips, sir,” she wrote. “Alas, I’ve tried to fire @blakelively so many times. But that b*tch just keeps coming back. She won’t leave me alone.”

So why doesn’t the A Simple Favor star work with a stylist, the way most of her peers do? Lively has said that styling herself is an extra outlet for creativity—plus, it’s a whole lot of fun. “I love design, and I love fashion, and it’s a way to be creative,” she explained earlier this year. “In my job I get to be creative, but it’s over a period of time and so many other people are involved, whereas this is a beginning, middle, and end, and I get to be creative and there’s an end date in the near future.”

She continued, “It’s the same reason why I like doing my friends’ hair and makeup or cooking—you get to be creative and finish it. Whereas with my job you do it, and then two years later it’s finished. It probably goes back to the control issues; it’s like, ‘OK, I did it, I completed it, it’s done!’”

Considering Blake Lively is a constant fixture on Hollywood’s “Best Dressed” lists and in the front row at Fashion Week, we’d say her “stylist” is doing just fine.

Meghan Markle Told Her Make-Up Artist About Her Royal Wedding With Emojis

Sure, the royal wedding was a historical event and probably one of the most massive moments in Meghan Markle’s life, but did she stress out when she was telling her friends about the big day? Nope. She sent emojis, like a totally normal person.

Markle’s longtime friend and make-up artist Daniel Martin was a guest on Good Morning America on Tuesday and told audiences how Markle roped him into doing her bridal makeup. Apparently, there wasn’t a full marching band or a thousand white doves or any crazy fanfare—the Duchess of Sussex simply shot Martin a few texts.

“She [texted and] was, like, ‘Hey—what are you doing May 19th?’ And then she sent me two emojis of the bride and groom. I was, like, ‘Okay, yeah, whatever you need,'” Martin said.

Just like that. As though getting married to a real-life prince in front of thousands of people at St George’s Chapel is something you just casually text about—but I guess that’s life when you’re Meghan Markle.

Although we would have been busy shouting the news from every rooftop in London, Markle and Martin started working on practical things, like what kind of look Markle would channel. Martin shared how he achieved her glowing make-up the day of the wedding, something he described to Glamour back in May, when he said they had come up with anchor descriptions like timeless, effortless, and chic. On Good Morning America, Martin also went into detail about how he captured her natural beauty.

“When [Harry] takes the veil off, and he sees her, that’s, like, the moment I think a bride wants—when she has that moment with her future husband,” he told Good Morning America. “It wasn’t about a trendy makeup. It wasn’t about a lot of eye or a lot of lip. It was about her, and her being confident.”

He also gave a little insight into how the morning went down the day of the wedding, and it sounds like Markle was totally relaxed and cool: “We had breakfast. Guy, her dog was with us. We were playing around with him,” Martin said, “It was a very chill morning … her mom was there, which was amazing.”

A very chill morning of kicking back with your dog and then just, you know, marrying a prince and becoming a duchess. No big deal.
