Lady Gaga Just Released Her New Song, ‘Stupid Love,’ and It's Incredible

Lady Gaga made her triumphant return to pop music on midnight Friday (February 28) with “Stupid Love,” her first solo single in nearly three years. And, my friends, it was well worth the wait.

The track is classic Gaga: big, bright, and booming, with eighties-style electronic production and an anthemic chorus. It’s a welcome return to form for the singer, whose last pop record, Joanne, was more stripped-down and acoustic than the shiny electro-dance of albums past. “Stupid Love” finds Gaga squarely back in club territory—it’s a song tailor-made for sweaty sing-alongs underneath a shimmery disco ball.

It’s also unlike anything on top 40 radio right now. Save for Dua Lipa’s “Don’t Start Now,” the top 10 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 is quite moody and downtempo—not a sugary bop in sight. If “Stupid Love” impacts radio (which fingers crossed it will), it could bring BPM and bombast back into pop. And who doesn’t need that right now?

The music video for “Stupid Love” is equally as colorful, starring Gaga as an alien princess of sorts who’s determined to bring love and light to her conflicted world. Watch the video (and hear the song) for yourself, below:

Gaga teased the video for “Stupid Love” earlier in the day on February 27. Again, the imagery—eccentric, over-the-top, and avant-garde—feels like classic Gaga.

The single art is equally as dynamic:

“Stupid Love” has had quite the journey. In January, a demo of the track leaked in full and quickly went viral. Fans loved it, and it was, confusingly, prematurely played in nightclubs, sporting events, and performed by drag queens. Gaga addressed the leak with a cheeky tweet essentially asking her Little Monsters to be patient:

But the wait for new music is over. Lady Gaga’s sixth studio album is on its way, though details and a release date are unknown at this time. Thank goodness “Stupid Love” is a supremely delicious jam that will keep us satiated for a while.

Subway ‘Shallow’ Singer Goes Viral for Belting Lady Gaga With No Warning

Could you finish a famous song lyric if some random psycho ran up to you on the street with a microphone and demanded it of you? Me, like two of the people in a new viral video, would probably respond with a resounding “WTF? Get away from me.” Unless, of course, the comedian was Billy Eichner filming an episode of Billy on the Street. Call me, Billy!

I digress. On February 19, comedian Kevin Freshwater uploaded a video of himself running up to strangers and having them finish the lyrics to famous songs of his choosing. Contestant number one refused to play along, while the next unsuspecting young woman begrudgingly repeated, “It wasn’t me,” each time Freshwater hit her with another line of the Shaggy classic. After that, one man either didn’t know the lyrics to “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” or he was just not in the mood. But it was Freshwater’s last victim that turned the video into a viral sensation. Before we get into that, I have to wonder if there is something to be said about the fact that only women seemed to feel obligated to participate…. It’s almost like we are conditioned by society to accept unwanted attention from aggressive men.

Yet again, I digress. When Freshwater spots a woman on the subway with perfectly feathered blond hair, he didn’t seem to know that she was about to blow his mind. He fed her the first lyrics of Lady Gaga’s hit song “Shallow” from A Star Is Born and she ate. It. Up.

This video deserves more than 340K views, TBH. The singer in question has been identified as professional singer-songwriter Charlotte Awbery. Check her singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” if you enjoy good things:

People on Twitter are going wild. Now she has actual stan accounts, her own fandom name (Charlotte’s Web), and fans begging for an album.

“My job, from now on, is to stan and promote Charlotte Awbery’s talent. This is what I do,” @strayydog tweeted. Same, Strayydog. Same.

Lady Gaga Is Starring in a Movie About the Gucci Family Murder: Here's What We Know

Ever since Lady Gaga floored critics and audiences alike with her performance in A Star Is Born last year, the world’s been waiting to see what movie she’ll do next. And now we know: Deadline reports the pop icon is slated to star in a film about the Gucci family, specifically the murder of the founder’s grandson.

Gaga will play Patrizia Reggiani, who was convicted in 1998 for arranging the murder of her husband, Maurizio Gucci. She was released from prison in 2016 after serving 18 years.

Ridley Scott, who’s directed several critically acclaimed movies, like The Martian and Gladiator, will helm this project. If his previous work is any indication, we’re in for another awards-season blockbuster. (Scott himself has amassed four Oscar nominations, while Lady Gaga scored a nomination for best actress and a best original song win for “Shallow,” the central tune in A Star Is Born.)

Not much is known about the Gucci project at this time, but here are a few details.

The plot: From a script by Roberto Bentivegna based on Sara Gay Forden’s book, The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed, the movie will center on the rise of the Gucci empire and its foray into the corporate world under CEO Domenico De Sole and creative director Tom Ford. Interspersed with this is the story of Reggiani, who had two daughters with Maurizio Gucci (he left her in 1985 for a younger woman). According to Deadline, Reggiani had a brain tumor removed, which her children blame for her actions involving Maurizio’s murder. But the tabloids weren’t as kind to the matriarch, dubbing her a scorned “Black Widow.”

The cast: Lady Gaga is the only actor attached to the project right now. That will surely change soon.

The director: Ridley Scott.

The release date: Unknown at this time.

We’ll update this post as more details come in.

Lady Gaga Says She Had Almost Her 'Entire Body' X-Rayed After She Fell Off Stage

You don’t have to have seen Enigma, Lady Gaga’s Las Vegas show, to know it’s a wild time. When Lady Gaga’s residency at the Park MGM’s Park Theater goes according to schedule, it’s two hours of glitter, pyrotechnics, and all of her greatest hits (plus some deep cuts). But when Lady Gaga had a dramatic fall off of the stage during her performance last Thursday, fans learned that Enigma is, somehow, even more of an event when things go awry.

Things took a turn for the dangerous at Lady Gaga’s Thursday evening Enigma performance when she a brought a fan onstage to dance with her. At one moment, the fan hoisted Gaga into his arms, and then the two fell offstage into the crowd below. And yes, it was all captured on camera.

Within minutes of tumbling off the stage, Lady Gaga was helped back up by security and returned to her performance, choreography and all. “We fell into each other’s arms,” she joked minutes later while playing the piano. “We’re like Rose and Jack in the Titanic.” Watch the video here.

But Lady Gaga‘s best quip about the accident came after she headed to the hospital. On Instagram, the singer revealed that she had to get x-rays of almost all of her body following her fall.

This being Lady Gaga, she made her prognosis sound upbeat—and hilarious. She shared a shot of her hand’s x-ray, giving her followers the “okay” symbol. Her caption was nothing short of genius: “Just Dance. Gonna be ok?,” she wrote.

Fans filled the comments section with supportive messages for the singer. “Love you funny, morbid Queen,” one wrote. “Queen of falling and getting back up ?,” another said. No lie detected.

Of course, falling off of the stage wasn’t all jokes in reality. On Friday, the Oscar-winner shared an Instagram story from her friend’s Bachelorette dinner. In it, she said that she’s “in a lot of pain” following the accident.

Lady Gaga Has Bubblegum Pink Hair Now

Can you believe it’s been a year since Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper‘s A Star Is Born premiered in theaters? What an emotional time that was—and frankly I’m still not over the fact that it didn’t win all the Oscars.

She did take home the (well-deserved) Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Shallow” and the soundtrack to the film has continued to have enormous success. In fact it has now gone platinum six times over, which Gaga celebrated recently on Instagram — by debuting her new bubblegum pink hair.

“A year ago, A Star was Born, and here we are 6 times pink platinum,” she wrote in the caption.

Gaga is a master chameleon when it comes to her beauty looks, so it’s not altogether surprising to see her switch up from her most common shade: blond. The singer even coordinated the new shade to her pink-and-black checked minidress, much like she did with her coordinated powdery blue hair and gown at this year’s Golden Globes in January.

This isn’t the first time Gaga’s played around with pink hair, but the bold all over bubblegum hue is a new twist—and it certainly suits her. Though, is there any hair color that doesn’t look great on Gaga?

Here she is at the 2009 MTV VMAs:

Lady Gaga Is Fully Funding 162 Classrooms in Dayton, El Paso, and Gilroy Following Mass Shootings

Lady Gaga is no stranger to activism and promoting messages of love—and in the wake of the recent string of mass shootings in the United States, the “Shallow” singer found an incredible way to show support for and directly help the cities of Dayton, Ohio; El Paso, Texas; and Gilroy, California—communities that have all experienced horrific massacres in recent weeks. On Friday (August 9), Gaga posted a heartfelt letter to the survivors of the shootings on Facebook, sharing that she will fully fund classroom project needs in those cities.

“My heart goes out to those who were taken from us too soon and to their families, loved ones, and communities who are left to grieve. Everyone has the right to laws that make them feel safe in their communities,” she wrote. “In this moment, I want to channel my confusion, frustration, and fury into hope. Hope that we are there for each other and for ourselves.”

She then directed her readers to visit the website DonorsChoose.org, a nonprofit organization that allows people to donate directly to public school classroom projects in select communities.

Gaga explained that her Born This Way Foundation is partnering up with the organization to “fully fund the next classroom project needs” in the cities of Ohio, Texas, and California. “14 classrooms in Dayton, 125 classrooms in El Paso, and 23 classrooms in Gilroy will now have access to the support they need to inspire their students to work together and bring their dreams to life,” she wrote in her message.

“Surviving and recovering from these tragedies also means prioritizing your mental health and checking in on your loved ones. If you’re struggling, please be brave and tell a trusted someone. Don’t be scared to ask for help, I beg you,” Gaga continued. “If you see a loved one struggling, please be brave and reach out, remind them it’s ok to not be ok, and listen to them. We cannot turn away from ourselves. We cannot turn away from our loved ones. We need each other. Don’t turn away.”

“In loving memory of the victims of the tragic shootings in Dayton, OH, El Paso, TX, and Gilroy, CA,” she ended the post.
