Kim Kardashian Hilariously Shut Down Rumors That Her Surrogate Is Having Twins

Kim Kardashian confirmed a few weeks ago that she and Kanye West are expecting their third child via surrogate. The announcement didn’t really surprise anyone, to be honest, because Kardashian’s been quite open on Keeping Up With the Kardashians about wanting to expand her family despite having fertility struggles. (She suffered from placenta accreta after her second pregnancy, a condition that’s made it very difficult—and dangerous—to have any more children biologically.) Plus, this rumor has been floating around social media since early summer. Of course, it was exciting when she finally said, “We’re having [another] baby!” out loud, but anyone with a pulse saw it coming.

What people didn’t see coming, however, is the possibility of Kardashian’s surrogate carrying twins—but that’s exactly what the reality star had the Internet thinking yesterday after she tweeted about needing a double stroller.

“Anyone know who makes the best double stroller? Not a tiny compact one but regular size,” the Selfish author wrote Monday morning (October 23).

People immediately took this as a twin reveal—seemingly forgetting that Kardashian currently has two young children. Here’s how some people reacted:

But Kardahian laughed off these tweets and responded with the obvious defense we mentioned earlier: that the stroller is for North and Saint.

“I have two kids people!!!! LOL,” she wrote. See it, below:

Kardashian and West haven’t confirmed the sex of their third baby, but both TMZ and Us Weekly report they’re expecting a girl. Like all Kardashian-Jenner stories, though, nothing’s official until the family announces it themselves—probably through a splashy photo shoot that breaks the Internet. That’s why we’re holding our breath with all the reports about Kylie Jenner and Khloé Kardashian being pregnant. Let’s wait for the receipts.

Kim Kardashian Shut Down Some Rumors About Herself With the Help of Her Grandma MJ

PHOTO: Taylor Hill/FilmMagic/Getty Images

It’s hard to keep up with the Kardashians, especially when not one but three of the sisters—Kylie Jenner, Khloé Kardashian, and Kim Kardashian—are all reportedly expecting babies in 2018. Even momager Kris Jenner’s mom Mary Jo, a.k.a. MJ, doesn’t know what to believe. Luckily, in a new video on her app, Kim and MJ sat down to read headlines about KKW together and sort fact from fiction.

Mary Jo says in the video that she doesn’t read the tabloids, but she does love People magazine. Of course, her No. 1 source for celebrity news is her granddaughter; she texts Kim when she sees a rumor that could be true. MJ (like us) also revealed that she has to ask Kim if she’s pregnant “every other month.” Kardashian recently confirmed that she is expecting her third child with husband Kanye West via surrogate.

Any mention of Kylie and Khloé’s growing families was suspiciously absent from Kim’s convo with MJ (alas, no scoop from grandma). Neither Kylie nor Khloé have yet to publicly confirm any reports of their pregnancies, so the group text with grandma has probably been quite active lately.

Of course, we did get KKW’s final say on some other rumors during her chat with MJ. Kardashian shut down gossip that North hates Saint. “Obviously, North loves Saint. She just is still jealous…she needs to still get it together and warm up and be a little bit nicer,” Kim explained. “She’s not hurting him or anything, she just doesn’t want boys in her room.” Kardashian also clarified that she does not want to replace Kelly Ripa on LIVE with Kelly & Ryan and confirmed that she’s not having twins to have twins. Now we all know to expect a maximum of three new Kardashians in 2018.

Kardashian also mentioned in the video that she’s been begging MJ to start a YouTube channel, which actually doesn’t sound like the worst idea. Who better to break news about the Kardashian-Jenner brood than the family’s matriarch herself?

A Female CNN Anchor Shut Down an Interview After a Guest Wouldn't Shut Up About "Boobs"

“Boobs” is a fun word to say—if you’re 7. Unfortunately, that’s a little young to be appearing on CNN, which is why it was shocking when a fully adult male guest on CNN anchor Brooke Baldwin’s show wouldn’t stop repeating the word—to the point where she had to shut down the whole live interview. Before you ask: no, the interview had nothing to do with mastectomies; no, he wasn’t an expert on breast cancer; no, he wasn’t a sex expert talking about nipplegasms (which are real). He was Fox Sports Radio’s Clay Travis, who was there for a discussion about calls from the White House saying ESPN should fire anchor Jemele Hill (she’d called President Donald Trump a “white supremacist” on Twitter).

He was one of two guests during this segment of Baldwin’s show; the other, former ESPN senior editor Keith Reed, was there to presumably present a different opinion.

Travis contributed to what could have been an intellectual debate with the following: “I’m a First Amendment absolutist. I believe in only two things completely: the First Amendment and boobs.”

Baldwin stopped him and said: “I just want to make sure I understood you correctly, as a woman anchoring this show. What did you just say? You believe in the First Amendment and b-double-o-b-s?”

Travis nodded, serenely. “Boobs. The only two things that have never let me down in this entire country’s history: the First Amendment and boobs.”

K.

“I’ve been a journalist for 17 years—the past seven spent at CNN hosting a live show,” wrote Baldwin in an op-ed published on CNN.com on Saturday. “I’ve seen and heard some things. But when I first heard ‘boobs’ from a grown man on national television (in 2017!!!) my initial thought bubble was: ‘Did I hear that correctly?? There’s no WAY he just came on my show and said what I think he said. … DID HE?’ And I let it hang.”

Baldwin had the added pressure of live television to figure out what to do next. Travis had just introduced a heavily sexualized part of the female anatomy into a completely unrelated discussion. As producers scrabled to figure out what they’d just heard (“Booze?”), she continued by asking an aghast Reed what he thought.

“Listen, I’m astonished at almost everything I’ve just heard,” he said, before adding, “For someone to come on CNN and to say something like, ‘The only thing I believe in and the discussion about..”

“I’m just, I’m still there too,” Baldwin interrupted. She addressed Travis: “And I just want to make sure I’m hearing you correctly: b-o-o-z-e? Or b-o-o-b-s? Because as a woman—”

“I said boobs!” Travis doubled down. “I believe completely in the First Amendment and in boobs. Those are the only two things I believe 100 percent in.”

Baldwin continued in her op-ed: “I thought again: ‘It is 2017, and this grown man is on my show talking with me—a female host—about boobs. Is this seriously happening?’

In the interview, Travis tries vainly to bring it around to Hill, but the damage is done. “Guys!” Baldwin says. “Why would you even say that live on national television? And with a female host? Why would you even go there?”

Valid question. “I say it live on the radio all the time!” Travis says before reiterating the only point he’s made.

“And then,” Baldwin writes, “I did something I’ve done only a handful of times in my career. I told the control room to kill his mic and said ‘bye.’ I invite a variety [of] people on my show with wide-ranging opinions —sometimes even my jaw hits the floor, too—but I let them speak. Whether it’s left, right or center—I want to expose my viewers to other perspectives. Agree with them or not, the nation needs to listen.

But this … was different.”

What Travis, who identifies as a “Southern white conservative,” didn’t realize is that even if you have the right to say whatever you want, you’re not exempt from the consequences of your words. (Most people learn this before they learn “boobs”.) Travis had literally one job to do—express his view, hopefully in an eloquent, insightful manner—and he messed it up on word eight.

Baldwin is a strong advocate for women’s issues and dedicates her time outside of her two-hour daily show on CNN to a project called “American Woman.” As she writes, “I want to help lift women’s voices. And I realize, in doing that, I need to use my own.”

The Peabody finalist won’t be asking Travis back again, she wrote. As she ended her op-ed, “Maybe he should learn from folks over at Fox News—being demeaning to women does have consequences.”

Paloma Elsesser Just Shut Down the Idea That 'Being Fat' Is Something to Be Ashamed Of

PHOTO: Instagram / @palomija

One look at Glossier’s new Body Hero campaign, and you’ll spot some very obvious differences from typical ads. The models are gorgeous, but the images spotlight women with diverse body types shown totally (and tastefully!) nude—which in 2017, is still frustratingly atypical. And the decision hasn’t gone unnoticed: across social media, the brand’s initiative has been met with a hugely enthusiastic, supportive response from women finally seeing themselves on billboards. The campaign obviously struck a nerve—but perhaps with no one more than one of the women literally on the billboard, Paloma Elsesser.

In an Instagram post, the model laid out the personal significance of starring in a nude billboard campaign. “I did this to show that being fat isn’t a burden. Being fat isn’t ugly or shameful. To prove to one person that it isn’t BRAVE to be fat, but bountiful,” she wrote. And while the campaign would have been important even if it had been solely online or in print, the billboard exposure is vital. “[I did this to show] that young girl looking on Instagram, or walking down Spring St, that she is fucking perfect despite the precarious and irresponsible versions of beauty we are urged to digest. I love you @glossier thank you for this incredible opportunity, for clearing the set, for wiping my tears, for playing SWV, and for helping me shed my insecurities in pursuit of greater impact and awareness ? #bodyhero.”

Still, for all the positive messaging around self-acceptance that’s starting to become the norm, the fact remains that it’s tough to let yourself appear exactly as you are, something Elsesser also pointed out. “I cried 3 times before this shoot. I cried because I still feel scared, paralyzed by insecurity at times, and exhausted by an unfettered vulnerability that I want to present to the world. As I paced the upstairs bathroom of @springstudios I chanted to myself,’This isn’t for you Paloma. This isn’t about you. Get out of your ego. Be of service’ over and over until the anxiety subsided and I was convinced of the mantras which guide me through many jobs, most importantly this one.”

If you recognize Elsesser’s face, it’s probably because she’s been everywhere recently, also starring in the campaigns for Fenty Beauty and Nike. As Elsesser told Glamour this spring, it’s a hard-won movement: “The size conversation has been going on for a while, and the same for diversity. But I think that women of color are now in positions to call the shots. These larger magazine and companies have a social responsibility because now we have the Internet for people to fight back and be like, what the fuck? Now there are women of so many colors and so many different sizes who are able to have a voice. And I’m so happy that I’m able to be a part of the conversation.”

J.K. Rowling Just Shut Down Someone Who Mansplained What a Book Was to an Author

Writing a book is a lot of work (or so I’ve heard). We’re talking pages and pages and time and pages and edits. So when author Laura Kalbag took to Twitter to announce the publication of her new book, she was probably pretty proud of her feat (as she should be!). But when a male user started mansplaining to her exactly what a book is, users spoke up—including one formidable publishing queen known as J.K. Rowling.

Rowling’s been known a time or two to dish out some wit on Twitter, notably engaging in feuds with President Donald Trump and taking down a certain anti-transgender conservative commentator. So although it’s no surprise she threw her hat into this foray, it’s beyond sweet that she came to the defense of this first-time author when this guy starting raining on her parade.

Screengrabbed for posterity by Twitterer Leah Reich, here’s Kalbag’s original tweet, followed by Erik Spiekermann’s beyond nit-picky response:

(Apparently he’s a pretty famous German typographer, so granted, maybe he’s a little sensitive to the effort that it takes for a team to design, edit, bind, and publish a book, but I don’t have the time to see if he goes around making this comment on every single “I wrote a book!” announcement on Twitter.)

People called him out on it, and he replied that of course he knew she was referring to authorship, but “people do not realize what it takes to make a book, beyond writing it. It does not fall out of the back of your computer.”

Which, granted. But I’m pretty sure everyone knows what the author means when she says “I’ve written a book!” Do we thank the trees that provided the (hopefully recycled) pages, too?

But what’s really irking is that if he wanted to clarify the process of creating a book, then that’s best done via an independent tweet explaining it. From his own account. Commenting on a first-time female author’s proud tweet about a book that took her three years start to finish is totally inappropriate.

Kalbag replied with an apology:

She also told Teen Vogue that she felt incredibly embarrassed about the whole thing:

“If I saw a similar tweet from a man to another woman, I would probably call it mansplaining,” she told Teen Vogue. “As others have pointed out, he hasn’t tweeted the same thing to a man who has written a book. I don’t believe Erik chose to nitpick my language consciously because I am a woman, but sometimes our biases can reveal themselves in this way. I’m also aware that English is not his first language, so the tweet may not have come out exactly as he intended. All that said, what he called me out on wasn’t factually correct. In English, we do say ‘write a book.’ But it still made me question myself. Especially given his standing in the design industry. I felt really embarrassed.”

Sigh. This is the last thing a woman who has published her first book needs—especially in an industry where women aren’t represented as equally or marketed as well as men.

But that’s when Rowling swooshed in with the perfect response:

To cap it off, Roxane Gay appeared, too!

Spiekermann also apologized on Twitter and tweeted that he’d written to her privately:

“It’s important that we shine a light on unpleasant interactions so people acknowledge how uncomfortable it can be for women and people from minority groups in the tech and design industries,” Kalbag continued in her chat with Teen Vogue. “Seeing those problems and trying to do better is the only way we’re going to make our industries change.”

Moral of the story, I guess, is to remember what your mama/papa/parent told you: “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it at all.”

Or Rowling will come for you.

This CNN Anchor Perfectly Shut Down a Republican Senate Candidate Who Kept Interrupting Her

“Manterrupting” is real—and it’s backed up by numbers and by situations that we see play out in meetings, in social situations, and on TV with what sometimes seems like daily frequency. In just three minutes, one 2014 study found, men will interrupt a woman about twice. But if we were to go back and look at that data, there’s a high possibility a recent CNN interview would have skewed that number wayyyy to one side: a Republican Senate candidate from Virginia repeatedly interrupted anchor Kate Bolduan during an interview, talking over her multiple times. But a la Rep. Maxine Waters’ fierce and instantly iconic behavior in a similar situation (“Reclaiming my time!”), Bolduan held her ground by reminded him that he was on her show—and not the other way around.

Bolduan, host of CNN’s At This Hour, had Stewart on her August 17 show to discuss last weekend’s white nationalist rallies in Charlottesville, Virginia. What began as Stewart defending Trump’s unhinged press conference statements turned into an even more cringeworthy two-minute exchange.

The conversation turned ugly when Stewart accused Bolduan of exploiting the tragic death of Heather Heyer, the 32-year-old woman killed last Saturday morning during a domestic terrorism attack in Charlottesville.

Bolduan asked Stewart about why Republicans haven’t publicly condemned the alt-left: “Is it possible that it’s because someone died who was counter-protesting?”

“You’re trying to use this poor women’s death to say that Confederate monuments should be taken down,” Stewart replied. “That’s exactly what you’re trying to say, Kate.”

“I’m sorry, is that what I said at all?” Bolduan, who’s been a CNN journalist for over a decade, asked the GOP candidate. “In no way am I conflating the two.”

He interrupted her repeatedly, and after Bolduan attempted to explain herself over Stewart multiple times, she finally put the politician in his place.

“I am the anchor of the show,” she said. “I am asking the questions. Stop talking, stop talking. You’re the guest on my show. I would like to continue the conversation with you—respectfully.”

Her firm shutdown got Stewart to stop talking, and Bolduan was finally able to clarify that there is “a time and a place to have a debate and a conversation about the appropriate place for Confederate statues.”

Watch her full takedown here:
