Beautyblender Concealer Review: Hides Dark Circles Perfectly

It’s nearly impossible to open up a pro’s makeup bag without seeing a Beautyblender. That iconic little egg practically invented a category of its own and is well loved for applying foundation with an airbrushed finish. To say it changed my life would be an understatement, I never really understood what foundation was supposed to look like until I started using one (I also held onto it for two years before replacing it, but that’s a story for another time). Two years after the launch of the brand’s first foray into makeup with Bounce Foundation, the company’s first concealer finally landed in stores this month.

Beautyblender Bounce Airbrush Liquid Whip Concealer is a high-coverage formula that comes in 40 shades. This concealer is certainly an overachiever, with the brand claiming it “brightens, smoothes, and hydrates all in one swipe.” Despite its high pigment concentration, it’s described as lightweight and promises an airbrushed finish and 24-hour wear. I’m hard to please when it comes to concealer—I need something that covers my lack of sleep without looking obvious—but this sounded right up my alley, so I put it to the test.

First impression: I was surprised by how thick it is. The concealer has an almost cream-like texture. But Liquid Whip really is the perfect name for it because it also has a whipped, fluffy feel to it. The doe-foot applicator is also not what I was expecting. It’s shaped just like a teeny tiny Beautyblender and is designed to be able to apply both precise amounts of product and cover larger areas for contouring and highlighting.

The texture made me a little nervous, since I generally prefer sheerer base products that I can build up. But I was pleased to find one little swipe under each eye was the perfect amount of coverage. It easily blended into my skin, yet instantly knocked all the darkness out of my undereyes. As someone who clocks under six hours of sleep a night, a concealer that can make me appear well-rested is a must, and this checks the box.

It also has the prettiest satin finish that isn’t glowy but still reflects light and an airbrushed finish that blurs lines, thanks to the tetrapeptides and hyaluronic acid in the formula. Most importantly, it doesn’t settle into cracks or crevices, and stays that way all day. I found the pointed tip super easy to maneuver, and while I prefer it for undereyes, it makes spot concealing easy peasy.

Is that the face of a woman who got a full eight hours of sleep? No one will ever know.

Khloé Kardashian Perfectly Shut Down Trolls on Instagram for Good

Khloé Kardashian has officially had enough of trolls. This week, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star hit back at critics by turning off her Instagram comments after some accused her of getting lip injections. Though Kardashian is known to clap back at her haters, she decided her move here was to avoid giving the negativity a platform altogether.

The criticism all started after Good American co-founder shared a series of photos to promote an ad for Skin Thesis.

“Hey glow!!! ✨ #ad Shout out to Melissa @skinthesisinc for my healthy glowing skin ?,” Kardashian captioned the post, which highlighted her skin-care regime.

But instead of focusing on her glowing appearance, comments quickly started to roll in questioning whether the reality star she’s had any work done on her face—and the messages ranged from mean to straight-up nasty.

“God what happened,” one person reportedly wrote.

“I’m sorry but your lips are overdone, it looks nasty,” another commented.

“If you can’t close your lips ?… too much filler,” someone else remarked.

By quietly disabled everyone’s ability to comment, it not only helped her avoid further trolling, but it served as an important reminder that whether Kardashian’s had work done or not is none of anyone’s business.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Kardashian has been called out in regards to how she lives her life.

Earlier this month, she was accused of using her daughter as an accessory after posting a photo walking along the beach carrying baby True.

“U do know that your baby isn’t an accessory right?” a user asked.

Watch Jessica Chastain Perfectly Illustrate Why Hollywood Needs Better Roles for Women

Jessica Chastain knows there’s a problem for women in Hollywood. Well, besides the sexual harassment. And the pay disparities. And the inane red carpet questions. OK—Jessica Chastain knows there are a lot of problems for women in Hollywood.

But this week on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she wanted to talk about one in particular: underwritten female roles. Like the distraught wife of the hero who saves the day. Or the distraught girlfriend of the man who would and does risk everything. To illustrate just what actresses are dealing with in terms of a lack of depth of the characters they’re asked to play, Chastain asked Fallon to help her read some scenes, with the late-night host taking the female parts while Chastain read for the men. The result was obviously hilarious—and very telling.

Fallon didn’t have to stretch himself much to read for the leading lady in a rom-com, when a meet-cute had the guy waxing poetic about the unpredictable nature of the universe and the possibility of fate, while his female companion…just giggled mostly. He was completely silent during Chastain’s action hero monologue (though, on set he’d probably need to do at least some pained expressions when the hero said, “You wait here”). He did get an actual chunk of very technical dialogue for an imaginary sci-fi script, with his heroine outlining her perfectly calculated plan to save the ship, but it’s still not exactly a shining beacon of feminism at work—her plan was quickly and simply dismissed by her male counterpart.

At the end of the sketch, Chastain and Fallon made sure to plug Time’s Up, the initiative to fight gender inequality that’s been rampant in the world of Hollywood and beyond, making it clear that just poking fun at problems in the industry isn’t going to cut it; there need to be clear indicators that positive changes are truly coming.

This CNN Anchor Perfectly Shut Down a Republican Senate Candidate Who Kept Interrupting Her

“Manterrupting” is real—and it’s backed up by numbers and by situations that we see play out in meetings, in social situations, and on TV with what sometimes seems like daily frequency. In just three minutes, one 2014 study found, men will interrupt a woman about twice. But if we were to go back and look at that data, there’s a high possibility a recent CNN interview would have skewed that number wayyyy to one side: a Republican Senate candidate from Virginia repeatedly interrupted anchor Kate Bolduan during an interview, talking over her multiple times. But a la Rep. Maxine Waters’ fierce and instantly iconic behavior in a similar situation (“Reclaiming my time!”), Bolduan held her ground by reminded him that he was on her show—and not the other way around.

Bolduan, host of CNN’s At This Hour, had Stewart on her August 17 show to discuss last weekend’s white nationalist rallies in Charlottesville, Virginia. What began as Stewart defending Trump’s unhinged press conference statements turned into an even more cringeworthy two-minute exchange.

The conversation turned ugly when Stewart accused Bolduan of exploiting the tragic death of Heather Heyer, the 32-year-old woman killed last Saturday morning during a domestic terrorism attack in Charlottesville.

Bolduan asked Stewart about why Republicans haven’t publicly condemned the alt-left: “Is it possible that it’s because someone died who was counter-protesting?”

“You’re trying to use this poor women’s death to say that Confederate monuments should be taken down,” Stewart replied. “That’s exactly what you’re trying to say, Kate.”

“I’m sorry, is that what I said at all?” Bolduan, who’s been a CNN journalist for over a decade, asked the GOP candidate. “In no way am I conflating the two.”

He interrupted her repeatedly, and after Bolduan attempted to explain herself over Stewart multiple times, she finally put the politician in his place.

“I am the anchor of the show,” she said. “I am asking the questions. Stop talking, stop talking. You’re the guest on my show. I would like to continue the conversation with you—respectfully.”

Her firm shutdown got Stewart to stop talking, and Bolduan was finally able to clarify that there is “a time and a place to have a debate and a conversation about the appropriate place for Confederate statues.”
