Victoria's Secret Will Feature Its First Size-14 Model in New Collab With Bluebella

On Friday, October 4, Victoria’s Secret launched a partnership with London-based lingerie company Bluebella—and for the first time in VS history, the brand will feature a size-14 woman in its campaign. The model, Ali Tate Cutler, says she hopes her involvement will pave the way for other plus-sized models in the future.

Bluebella is also known for its campaigns that feature and celebrate diversity in an effort to promote inclusivity.

The new collab with VS also comes after transgender model Munroe Bergdorf starred in Bluebella’s 2019 lingerie campaign, Love Yourself, before publicly criticizing Victoria’s Secret for its refusal to use trans models on the runway.

You might recall that in 2018, during an interview with Vogue, Ed Razek, former chief marketing officer of Victoria’s Secret parent company L Brands, made controversial comments regarding transgender and plus-size models. At the time, he said didn’t think the annual fashion shows should feature “transsexuals” because “the show is a fantasy.”

The company has since made attempts to re-brand itself given the public’s demand for better representation.

It seems they may have found that in Cutler, who told E! how “surreal” it is to represent women who want to wear beautiful lingerie every day.

“I never expected that I was going to see an image of myself on the wall next to these top supermodels that I have been looking up to since I was a little girl,” she told the outlet. “It feels amazing, I feel on top of the world.”

“I feel like they are headed in the right direction and they are listening to their audience who have requested to see more women of diverse shapes and sizes,” she continued. “I think if they continue to head in that direction they will be on to a jackpot because that is reflective of what the average woman is in America.”

‘Wild’ Author Cheryl Strayed Knows the Secret to Finding Love After Loss

I really, really, really, really grieved the loss of my first marriage, even though I was the one who said, “I don’t want to be married anymore. Let’s end this.” But it was a different kind of grief than the grief I had for my mom. I’ll always grieve my mom. It’ll be a loss that will always be a hard one for me. The loss of my first marriage was a temporary grief; it was a temporary loss.

There shouldn’t be this timeline for grief. I think pathologizing pain is something that our culture does quite well. You should be sad if somebody you love deeply dies. That’s a normal response to a really sad, hard thing that happened. The first [step to healing] is to accept that sorrow is real and it’s going to take some time for it to lift. And then once it does lift a bit, to accept that—to accept that that’s not a sign of your lack of love, or commitment, or dedication to that person, but that it’s really that your loss is shifting into something a little deeper, where you’re starting to say, “I realize that this thing is true. This is a fact. My dad isn’t going to reappear like a magic genie and be there in my life again, ever again,” or, “My mom isn’t.”

We have to carry it—to say that the person is gone forever, but at the same time will always be present, so that in the absence of the beloved, there is a profound presence that we can make manifest in our lives by the things we do, and live, and believe, and say.

I love my kids the same way my mother loved me, and perhaps that’s the most powerful way I’ve carried her; I’ve carried that full-throttle-wild-abandon-imperfect-but-without-any-question-it’s-there love that I got from my mom, and I give it to my kids and they carry it forward. They’ll carry it onward. She’s alive in them; she’s alive in their spirits even though they never met her.

The power of vulnerability is also truly magic. Vulnerability, I’ve become convinced, is the way to get love. And of course, many of us decide not to be vulnerable because we’re afraid. But vulnerability is the way to get love, romantic or otherwise. The minute you’re the one who says, “I’m afraid right now,” or, “I’m missing my mom,” or, “I am in the midst of a divorce,” the minute you simply say what’s true, people open themselves up to you, and they offer you consolation—an essential connection.

I think that so much of loving well is about courage. It’s about telling the truth as soon as possible, as often as you can. That’s the secret to a good life, and that’s about vulnerability. Vulnerability is simply telling the truth about who you are, as often as you can, in any given situation. And nobody said any of this was going to be easy. If you’re looking for love again, there’s just no way around the fact that you have to be vulnerable in order to connect with others. Nobody’s going to love a cardboard-box version of you. Nobody wants to feel like they’re knocking at a closed door when they’re in a relationship with you. We want the real, juicy, meaty you. We want the tender stuff on the inside.

Kate Middleton Met With the ‘Love Actually’ Director About a Secret Project

Director Richard Curtis is best known for his beloved 2003 movie Love Actually, as well as classics like Four Weddings and a Funeral and Bridget Jones’s Diary. We’re thinking maybe Kate Middleton really loves those movies too, because for some reason she was hanging out with Curtis this week and discussing a new secret project.

According to the Daily Mail, the two of them met on Wednesday, September 11, during an unannounced private visit. The only thing reports revealed is that “the Cambridges are contributing to a project Curtis is working on.” Per the Daily Mail, this project is about mental health.

[embedded content]

If that’s true, it makes sense that Curtis would want to get the Cambridges in the mix. They’ve shown their dedication to mental wellness a few times now, and in 2016 they kicked off the Heads Together project to support discussions and openness around mental health. Curtis himself has been an advocate and has spoken about the subject a few times.

Interestingly, if the Daily Mail sources are accurate, only Middleton met with Curtis. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is that maybe Curtis is making a movie and planning to put her in it. But this could be part of a larger evolution Middleton has been undergoing. People magazine recently spoke to several sources who talked about how Middleton is slowly but surely getting ready to be queen and confidently carrying out more responsibilities.

“She is an adoring mother, and she is contributing publicly in the way we would want her to. You see it more and more. The young student has turned into our future Queen,” a source said. Maybe her meeting with Curtis is just the latest example of how she’s coming into her own. Either way, we can’t wait to hear more about the project.

Victoria's Secret Might Be Getting a Brand-New Look—But Is It Enough?

As Fashion Week unfolded in New York—and Rihanna hosted her Savage x Fenty show in Brooklyn—Victoria’s Secret parent company L Brands held its investor meeting in Columbus, Ohio. The consensus around Rihanna’s entry into the lingerie space has widely agreed that the current biggest name in intimates apparel could never. L Brands had an opportunity to prove otherwise.

According to Fortune, at Tuesday’s meeting, Victoria’s Secret Chief Executive Officer John Mehas, who joined the company from Tory Burch last year, expressed confidence that the path forward to success was evolution and putting women at the center of the brand. “We need to be led by her, for her,” he said.

For Mehas, the future of Victoria’s Secret—a brand that hasn’t cast size-inclusive models and whose parent company’s stock fell 28% since beginning of the year—will look different by way of more wireless bras, a push toward matching bra and underwear sets, a new approach to sale associate training, CNBC reports. “[Customers have] been very vocal about what [they’d] like to see from us in terms of inclusivity, #MeToo, rethinking the fashion show,” Mehas said. “We’re essentially in agreement at this.”

At the meeting, sister brand VS Pink revealed images of its new direction, as well—one aimed to win back it’s Gen Z market. As Wall Street Journal reporter Khadeeja Safdar shared on Twitter, its creative team teased an upcoming campaign that featured a group of models of different sizes wearing brightly-colored clothing. The image suggested a more body-positive approach to product and advertising, but any information about potential size expansion has yet to be confirmed.

Pink’s CEO Amy Hauk (who, like Mehas, assumed the position last year) promised at the meeting that the brand is “committed to learning” and shifting its focus to the “power of femininity,” according to Fortune. But as the main Victoria’s Secret line, a clear vision has not yet been shared. “Amy and the team are a little further ahead than we are,” he said. Hauk was also the only female executive to present on stage at the investor meeting.

These investor meetings come a little over a month since L Brand’s former chief marketing officer Ed Razek left his post. A 36-year Victoria’s Secret vet, he was at the helm throughout the time when the brand’s identity was made iconic, i.e. the era of the VS Angel. Thin, cis-gender models in heavily-padded bras, oozing sex appeal that felt intended for the male gaze. A “fantasy” as Razek would call it, but one that excluded anyone who didn’t fit those parameters—something the former executive confirmed in an interview with Vogue last year.

Jennifer Lopez Asked Ruth Bader Ginsburg for the Secret to a Happy Marriage

While it’s still TBD on when Jennifer Lopez is officially tying the knot with fiancé Alex Rodriguez, there’s no doubt we’re excited for what’s sure to be a glamorous day. Although wedding preparations might be underway (or at least ideating—J.Lo did just wrap a tour, after all), J.Lo definitely has the upcoming nuptials on her mind. How do we know? She reportedly recently asked Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg for marriage advice—and you can bet The Notorious RBG knew exactly what to say.

Ginsburg told the story herself at the Library of Congress’s National Book Festival in Washington, D.C. this weekend. Apparently J.Lo called her up casually and they wound up hanging out with Ginsburg at her office.

“I was called up about a month or so ago by Jennifer Lopez, and she said she would like to meet me and introduce her fiancé Alex Rodriguez,” she said. “So they came to chambers, and we had a very nice visit. She mostly wanted to ask if I had any secret about a happy marriage. But now ARod is traveling with her to concerts all over the world…”

The interviewer at the panel discussion Ginsburg was recounting this at asked Ginsburg, “So what was your secret to a happy marriage? Did you pass on your mother-in-law’s secret?”

“Yeah, on the day I was married, my mother in law took me aside and said she wanted to tell me what was the secret of a happy marriage,” Ginsburg responded. “And I said I’d be glad to hear what is it, and she responded it helps sometimes to be a little deaf.”

I mean, not gonna knock it! And Ginsburg should know: She paved the way as a groundbreaking, hugely dedicated justice while maintaining a marriage to husband Marty Ginsburg for more than 50 years (he died in 2010).

With a dash of her dry humor, Ginsburg also added that her advice works in a few other contexts, namely “every workplace, including the good job I have now.”

As a quick refresh, A-Rod proposed back in March while the two were vacationing in the Bahamas with an absolute whopper of an emerald-cut diamond. The moment was captured perfectly on Instagram:

Since then, the two have been living it up: J.Lo recently celebrated her epic 50th birthday with an epically over-the-top party at Gloria and Emilio Estefan’s estate on Star Island in Miami, as one does.

Lopez soon reciprocated the birthday affection with a fun surprise for A-Rod, who turned 44 toward the end of July: She and his two daughters surprised him during an ESPN appearance.

Then, she pulled him onstage during her Miami concert to sing him “Happy Birthday,” complete with a massive Yankees-themed cake.

Clearly, these two are pros at making things work with their insanely busy schedules—but getting a little extra advice from The Notorious RBG, who has put in years of work both on the bench and back home with her husband? Definitely can’t hurt.

Meghan Markle Reportedly Took a Secret Birthday Trip With Prince Harry and Baby Archie

Meghan Markle turned 38 on August 4, and people have been speculating non-stop about what she did for her birthday. At first, reports suggested the duchess took things pretty easy. She was said to have hung out at home with family and a lovely cake from Luminary Bakery, a shop that hires underserved women in London. (Markle mentioned them in the issue of Vogue she edited.) However, now the tabloids are suggesting Markle’s birthday was a little more involved; sources say she secretly jetted off to Ibiza wth Prince Harry and Baby Archie.

Both Hello! and The Mirror claim that Markle and her family took off on a private jet on August 6 and spent time in a “secluded villa,” heavily watched over by a security team and local escorts. The rumors are based on sightings covered in Spanish media outlets, who first reported that the trio was in the country for a six-day trip. Buckingham Palace did not comment on whether or not the trip actually happened.

Still, it seems like it might have. As Hello! pointed out, Markle has traveled to Ibiza before, in 2016, and there are a few photos from that trip floating around the Internet. Plus, she’s had a lot going on lately, between Vogue, her newly-announced workwear line for charity, and her new mom duties. So it could be that she just needed a mini vacation.

The only confirmed birthday detail people have is the sweet note that Prince Harry left her on their joint Instagram account. “Happy Birthday to my amazing wife. Thank you for joining me on this adventure!’ – Love, H,” he wrote in a caption. For anyone still dying to know exactly how Meghan Markle celebrates her birthdays, there’s a simple solution: Just get an invite to her bash next year.
