Rose McGowan Calls Natalie Portman's Oscars Cape Highlighting Female Directors ‘Offensive’

She calls Portman “part of the problem” with her “fake support of other women.”

“There is no law that says you need to hire women, work with women, or support women. By all means, you do you. But I am saying stop pretending you’re some kind of champion for anything other than yourself,” McGowan continued. “As for me, I’ll be over here raising my voice and fighting for change without any compensation. That is activism. Until you and your fellow actresses get real, do us all a favor and hang up your embroidered activist cloak, it doesn’t hang right.”

McGowan continued in her post, “I was at a Women in Film event that you spoke at once, Natalie. You reeled off depressing statistics and then we all went back to our salads. I quickly realized you and the other women speakers (and that joke of an organization) are just… frauds. You say nothing, you do nothing.”

Portman responded with a statement of her own, per The Hollywood Reporter. “I agree with Ms. McGowan that it is inaccurate to call me ‘brave’ for wearing a garment with women’s names on it. ‘Brave’ is a term I more strongly associate with actions like those of the women who have been testifying against Harvey Weinstein the last few weeks, under incredible pressure,” she said.

She also acknowledged the fact that she has not worked with a huge number of female directors over the course of her career. “It is true I’ve only made a few films with women. In my long career, I’ve only gotten the chance to work with female directors a few times—I’ve made shorts, commercials, music videos and features with Marya Cohen, Mira Nair, Rebecca Zlotowski, Anna Rose Holmer, Sofia Coppola, Shirin Neshat and myself,” Portman said. “Unfortunately, the unmade films I have tried to make are a ghost history.”

But, she says, that doesn’t account for all the projects that never went forward. “I have had the experience a few times of helping get female directors hired on projects which they were then forced out of because of the conditions they faced at work,” she said. “So I want to say, I have tried, and I will keep trying. While I have not yet been successful, I am hopeful that we are stepping into a new day.”

Director Marielle Heller said hers was one of those projects Portman is referencing.

Rose McGowan has not commented on Natalie Portman’s statement.

Ruby Rose Had to Have Emergency Surgery Following a Stunt Injury That Almost Paralyzed Her

On Thursday, September 26, Ruby Rose posted a graphic video to Instagram that shows her undergoing emergency surgery after a serious stunt injury left her at risk of being paralyzed. The actress, who told her fans she had two herniated discs that nearly severed her spinal cord, documented her entire medical experience and shared all the bloody details.

In a lengthy caption, the 33-year-old Batwoman star also explained why she decided to film the surgery; it turns out, it was all because of a past episode of Grey’s Anatomy.

“Well that was fun,” she began her post. “To everyone asking about my new Pez dispenser scar on my neck… A couple of months ago I was told I needed an emergency surgery or I was risking becoming paralyzed.”

“I had herniated two discs doing stunts, and they were close to severing my spinal cord. I was in chronic pain and yet couldn’t feel my arms,” she continued.

“Thank you Dr. Bray for everything you did and for allowing me to keep working and doing what I love,” she added. “I am forever in your debt.”

So, how does the hit ABC drama tie into all of this? Rose clarified in her caption, “Did you not watch that Grey’s Anatomy episode where they left a towel in a patient?? Also, I wanted to see what happens when we go under.”

You can watch the video at your own discretion, below, but be warned… it’s not for the squeamish.

She also shared a less graphic clip on YouTube ahead of her surgery. In it, she tells her doctors where she feels pain.

“It changes all the time, but right now it’s down the right side of my neck,” Rose explained. “It’s this right shoulder blade and around the rib cage area, down the arms. They’re either numb or they’re in pain.”

Though it’s unclear when she sustained the injury, this isn’t the first time Rose has needed surgery for her spine. In 2018, she tweeted that she had been suffering from a spinal issue for the last decade and needed surgery to rectify it. She told fans about her situation after they questioned why she was walking with a cane, later embracing the fact that she needed a little support.

‘Game of Thrones’ Stars Emilia Clarke and Rose Leslie Just Went on Vacation Together

Game of Thrones may be over, but the cast is still hanging out together. We already know that Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams, who played sisters Sansa and Arya Stark, are best friends. And the two most important women in Jon Snow’s (Kit Harington) life are also IRL pals.

In fact, Emilia Clarke and Rose Leslie just went on a vacation together in India, and it looked amazing. Those familiar with the series will know Leslie as Ygritte, the wildling who uttered the famously quotable line, “You know nothing, Jon Snow” and took his virginity. Leslie and Harington also fell in love offscreen and are now married. Clarke, meanwhile, played Daenerys Targaryen, Jon’s most recent lover (and, uh, aunt) who went “mad” before he stabs her to death. You know, normal relationship stuff.

Clarke posted a few of their vacay photos on Instagram. “This is NOT an ad, this is just two gals buzzed off our faces on India, peace, being robbed blind by monkeys, (we hardly put up a fight) the best two books I’ve read in years (#theoverstory should be mandatory reading the world over), yoga, spice, mamma earth and figuring out that all you’re ever looking for can be found within,” she wrote in the caption. “Corny as hell but my god is it true. #breathebabyandletthemadnessmeltaway #brainalteringjoy #roselesliehasmyheartandsoulwrappedupinhers #DONTFORGETTHELOVEPEOPLE! #bollocksdoesthatmeanitstimetoworknow? #? #✌️ #? #saltwaterbook #AMUSTREAD! @itbeginswiththebody”

The accompanying photos look incredible, and it seems like the two are super close and shared a special time together. But what I really want to know is if they discussed some of Jon Snow’s worst decisions on Game of Thrones, including and not limited to why he decided he had to get a white walker to prove to Cersei they were real, his strategy for the Battle of Winterfell, and his oft annoying dedication to his “honor.”

The Bachelorette Season 15, Episode 9, Recap: Hannah Refuses to Give Out a Final Rose

Speaking of other relationships, Hannah travels to Jupiter, Florida for her hometown date with Tyler. And he’s planned a great day: rubbing sunscreen all over his abs. OK, fine, that’s just the start; though I doubt Hannah would complain if the day began and ended there.

The date only goes uphill from there: Hannah gets to sit on Tyler’s lap while he drives a boat named the “Reel Clean” and points out the local sights, followed by a swim (and make out session) in the sea. “It’s super hot kissing Tyler,” Hannah says, to the shock of no one.

I would have loved more time watching Tyler splash around the ocean, but I guess Hannah does have to meet his family. And this hometown is especially emotional because Tyler’s dad was suffering from a paralyzed vocal chord—and Tyler hasn’t seen him since he left for the show, so it’s been hard to not know how the recovery’s been going.

So, of course, I tear up when Tyler and his dad are reunited. When the two sit down for a chat, Tyler admits he’s taking this process seriously because he wants his dad to be able to see him with a wife and kids someday. His dad replies that he hasn’t seen Tyler this happy in a long time. And I’m crying again.

Hannah’s talk with Dad is just as sweet—apparently Tyler hasn’t had many girlfriends, so it’s good but scary to see him so enamored. Damn, as if we needed another reason to love Tyler. Before Hannah leaves, she and Tyler make out in the backseat of an SUV while the driver stares forward and does his best to pretend like it’s not happening. A pro!

The third hometown date is with Luke in Gainesville, Georgia. He takes her to a church meeting, where he stands up and shares the story we’ve heard before: how he was “tangled up in sin” until God spoke to him in the shower. It feels more like a motivational speech than anything else, but Hannah seems into it? When they break out into smaller groups, everyone praises Luke so much it feels like a set up. Um, have you all met Luke? Maybe they thought Hannah was asking about some amazing dude named Duke?

Vanderpump Rules' Stassi, Katie, and Kristen Made a Rosé That's as Easy as 'Drinking Water'

“I don’t know if people know or realize that we—Katie, Stassi, and I—had full creative control,” Kristen says. “Not only over using the wine and the wine’s taste, but the actual label. We created that completely from scratch on our own.”

“I think people are often very surprised by how good it is,” Katie adds. “And that was very important to us because we don’t drink shitty wine.”

“Well, we used to,” Stassi says.

So considering this wine is meant to be enjoyed at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, I wanted Katie, Kristen, and Stassi to tell me their tips and tricks for all-day drinking—and the next day hangover. See their advice, below.

Plan the right environment.

A theme is always a good idea for a summer party, Kristen advises, but make sure you schedule an end time for the event. “I think what’s really important is that you have a cutoff time, if you’re having people over, for your guests to leave so you can unwind and drink wine alone with your TV,” Kristen explains. “That’s really important.”

She suggests wine pong as an activity, though Katie and Stassi aren’t big on drinking games with their rosé. “I just need to enjoy my wine,” Stassi says. “Yeah,” Katie adds, “I guess my only game would be, like, drink this glass of wine before the ice melts.”

Don’t stray from the rosé—and eat lots of carbs.

But if this wine is meant to be consumed all day long, how does you keep from going too hard too soon? “Stick to the same thing,” Stassi says. “If you’re gonna commit to day drinking it’s best to drink the same thing, [so we wanted] a rosé that’s really easy that people aren’t going to get sick of.”

“Also, you don’t have to be ashamed of adding a little club soda to make a little spritzer,” Katie says. Adds Kristen, “We’re not against icing your wine either!”

The women also advise adding water and food into the equation, especially “carbs” or their favorite, Taco Bell. (Speaking of which, they recommend pairing Potion Two with a Doritos Loco Taco, Chalupa Supreme, or “anything with the nacho cheese.”)

Maybeee don’t drink more than two and a half bottles.

The three famously have alter egos—The Dark Passenger, Crazy Kristen, and Tequila Katie—that emerge after one too many drinks. They’re the kind of creatures you might buy a crystal to ward yourself against: They throw their phone on the ground and cry because their boyfriend won’t come to bed. They fall dramatically in the middle of a hotel lobby. They send rage texts from an airline’s economy seat.

When I ask how much rosé it’d take to bring these … powerful beings to the forefront, the women agree it’s probably around two and a half bottles. “It depends on if you’re in the sun all day, because if you are, the Dark Passenger, Tequila Katie, and Crazy Kristen come out a lot quicker with a minimal amount of alcohol,” Stassi says.

“I would say it’s like waking up in the morning in a really great mood, and you’re like, ‘Yeah, let’s get this!’ You know? You have a little breakfast, and you’re like I’m gonna have a little beverage cocktail. Then you’re going to hang out by the pool all day with your friends and drink. And then around, like, 6:00 p.m. that’s when things get dark,” Katie says.

Adds Kristen, “I don’t blame that on alcohol, I blame that on dehydration. What I like about our wine is that it doesn’t bring out crazy Kristen.”

The Sweet Way Kit Harington Made Rose Leslie Feel Comfortable During Their 'Game of Thrones' Sex Scenes

Rose Leslie and Kit Harington have Game of Thrones to thank not only for the most high-profile roles of their careers but also for their relationship. The couple, who married in Scotland last summer, actually met while filming the hit HBO show.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Leslie’s Ygritte, a wildling who Harington’s Jon Snow met after he joined the Night’s Watch at The Wall—but the actress’s mark on the show lingers on via one of its most famous lines: “You know nothing, Jon Snow.”

Well that—and their characters’ steamy sex scene in a cave. Now, in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, she reveals how her now-husband made filming those scenes more comfortable for her.

Leslie recalls that only necessary personnel were on set that day and that she “felt very safe,” which Harington played a huge role in.

“[Harington] was, as ever, a gentleman, and he made sure that I was comfortable where he was going to be positioned, and he would always then turn around when they called cut, and the lovely wardrobe dailies would come in with a dressing gown, and then I would be covered. And only then would notes be spoken to us from the director,” she said. “But he was very considerate and made sure as much as possible that I didn’t feel awkward standing in front of people with your tits out. So it’s never going to be an enjoyable day, it’s always going to be an awkward one, but he and the rest of the crew were incredibly considerate, and it’s a conversation that we most certainly had in terms of where the boundaries lay.”

And as for that iconic line? Leslie loves being associated with it—but she and Harington don’t go around saying it to each other at home. “I feel incredibly privileged to have a catchphrase whereby, especially for the last few years, it’s been around me,” she says. “How lucky for any actor to walk away from a television show and have a catchphrase, but I’m sure many people find it the most irritating thing in the world, but there are still some people who find it fairly endearing. I think between he and I, no, we never say it to one another for obvious reasons—and not just ’cause it’s corny.”

Speaking of knowing nothing, we still have absolutely no idea what’s going to happen in the eighth and final season of Game of Throneseven the cast, Leslie included, doesn’t. But luckily there’s not much longer to wait: It’ll premiere Sunday (April 14) at 9 P.M. ET on HBO.
